I will pay you to make my Idea!

So basically I want a very simple device which is just a little buzzer and either some kind of laser sensor or even bits of string. I want something that can be worn that makes a noise when the wear slips out of good posture. I am sure this could be easily done. All quotes will be received and considered.

Indoor invisible pet fence idea - need help

I need to keep a cat out of a room that has a 12 foot wide opening. I was wondering if a strand of wire or a coil of wire could be installed under the carpet across the 12 foot opening such that when the cat, wearing a collar fitted with a magnet came close, a current change would be created in the wire or coil and an alarm could be generated that would scare the cat away? Would this work and if so, would someone like to help me make it happen? Thanks

How do I convert an AC device to run on a battery pack?

I have a device that runs on ac (110-120 Vac - 180w). I want to make it portable so that it can run off a battery pack such as AA or 9 Volt or even a custom battery. Is this too much of a power requirement to make it possible??? thanks in advance for your help.

A device to log power from a outlet?

Hello everyone, I am not sure if this is the best section for this. Would anyone know of a device that a novice could plug into a power outlet and it would monitor the power usage to see if there were any drops in power at certain times? I know there are high end AC/DC voltage meters but I need something I could send someone and have them just plug it in to the outlet and it would log everything. Then someone could read those results later. I would image something used in some form of solar setup would achieve this. I appreciate any help I can get on this. Thanks, Jester

Hugging device

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "I apologize for posting again so soon, but I forgot to describe my disability, and why I'm physically unable to hug someone. I was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called Nemaline Myopathy. My disability affects me in many ways, but in this case, I'm unable to independently raise my arms, wrap them around someone, and have them stay in place. A device I'm seeking would have the ability to suspend my arms in the air, and be able to bring them together. One suggestion was to somehow hook it up to a motor, and operate the device by a remote. Also, when I was a kid, I had a device that was like a sling for my arms. The two slings were attached to two separate metal rods on both sides of me that were able to attach and detach from the back of my wheelchair. Someone would slide my arms into the sleeves, and I was able to bring my arms together, or do various tasks, like typing, with my arms suspended in the sling. I do have the strength to squeeze my arms together, but without assistance, my arms eventually do slide down due to gravity. A device similar to the sling idea would probably be ideal, plus no motor or electronic devices would be needed. I realize that this project could be timely, and possibly expensive, but to me it's worth it. I'd love to be able to give someone that I care about a real hug, and experience another form of intimacy and closeness." Happy to hear your ideas! How feasible to make cluster of red and IR LEDs?

hey! I'm very interested in putting together a cluster of both red and IR LEDs for skin rejuvenation, and pain relief (I'm disabled and have back and joint pain). The medical devices for sale online are around $250 - $400. Should I pursue this DIY project or bite the bullet and fork over the money? I have NO electrical skills, but this just seems like something that should be doable!! Feedback plz :-)

Computer as composite display device

Hi, Okay, here is my problem: I found in my garage a small video camera (not with tape, recording or anything, it just plugs directly into the tv to watch the area) which I had got some years ago, now I would like to start using it again, however I don't think the only tv in the house is a good monitor (it doesn't provide any recording and it already has all rca inputs in use). What I would like to do is connect it to my pc and view the video (and listen to audio) on my computer, then like this I can also record video to the HDD if necessary. The camera has a composite video output and a mono audio output. Thanks, All help is appreciated. P.S. The problem with TV tuner cards is that I already have one, but it is not with me so I can not use it, on the other hand since I do already HAVE one I am not going to buy another one. Damn it when I thought that tuner card was not going to be useful and decided not to take it with me.

eletronic stimulation device

Hello fellow builders, I am having some trouble, for a rather important school project i need to perform some test and for one of the set of tests i need a device to deliver electric impulses on a person on regular basis. so i immediatly thought of medical devices like a TENS or EMS (if i remember correctly) unit. no the big problem is they are almost unobtainable in working conditions or they cost a fortune in shipping and stuff. is it possible to make a unit like this on my own ?

Metal Phone Keypad to usb device?

Hi everyone. The Dialpad from an emergency outdoor phone was being thrown out in the trash and I thought I could do something cool with it so I rescued it. But I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it into a usb device (like those small numpad attachments you can buy) I don't know much about these kind of topics, so any and all help is greatly appreciated. The model number is Ceeco 700-100 rev3. I would attach a picture of it but I accidentally left my phone at work. So instead here is a picture of one that looks like it. It looks almost exactly like this http://i01.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/418/173/607/607173418_606.jpg and has 8 different color wires coming out the back Thanks in advance Jwag

Device to warn two atv's if they are getting too far away from each other

I'm trying to find a way to warn one atv rider if the other rider is getting too far away.  Basically a device that you could mount on each atv that would have a red light and a green light.  The green light would be on if both riders were like say very close to each other or up to 1/4 mile away.  If the atvs would get more than 1/4 miles from each other a red light would turn on letting the riders know they are getting separated.  Thinking a low power radio transceiver that every 10 seconds or so would send out a signal that the other would pick up so the green light would stay on, if they two radios were out of range and didn't pick up a signal after 20 seconds or so the red light would come on until they got back into range then the green light would come back on. Basically a warning device to let each other know if they are getting out of range.  An example would be two atvs riding on trails following each other.  If the atv following got stuck, broke down or stopped for any reason the lead rider would be alerted that the other rider is not in range so they could stop and wait or turn around.  Anyone know a device to do this or an easy way to build one.

heat sensitive wall outlet

Does any one have or had plans for a wall plug outlet or an extension cord from a tool that would turn off if the temperature of the devise reached a preset degree.  i.e. your coffee machine operated normally but it caused the duplex plug to overheat and the circuit would shut down avoiding a possible fire condition.

Device Worn on Tongue Allows the Blind to See

For the past 10 years researchers at the University of Wisconsin have been working on making a device that delivers censorial input to the tongue via a matrix of electrodes worn inside the mouth. Using a camera, a computer, and the input device, individuals who have been blind their whole lives are now able to use this relatively simple and non-invasive device to see basic images. Applications for this technology range far and wide, not to mention all the awesome ideas for Instructables that come to mind. More info from the research page...What we have developed is a generic and flexible way to communicate information to people using an array or matrix of small electric stimulators on the surface of the tongue. In much the same way that people can use their fingertips to read Braille letters, which are patterns of raised dots embossed onto a sheet of paper, people can recognize simple spatial patterns using comfortable electrical stimulation of the tongue. For example, we published a preliminary study about two years ago showing that volunteer experimental test subjects could identify very simple geometric patterns such as circles, squares, and triangles. They identified these figures as accurately on the tongue as on the fingertips. And that's when we became excited about the possibilities for a tongue-based electrotactile display, electrotactile being the technical term for electrical stimulation of the sense of touch. The electrical stimulus on the tongue feels like a tingle or vibration; some users have said it feels like soda bubbles. The sensation is well-controlled and not painful unless the user deliberately turns up the level too high. Occasionally it will produce weak metallic taste sensations, a minor side effect. We have never observed any kind of tissue irritation with the gold-plated electrodes.1. One of the applications which has been commercialized is providing vestibular or balance information for people with balance disorders. This is a simple form of sensory substitution, in which the tongue is used to present information from an artificial balance sensor.2. Another application is providing directional or navigational information for people who operate under central command and control scenarios, such as military and civilian rescue personnel. Providing information via the tongue allows them to fully use their vision and hearing to respond to unforeseen threats or hazards. We have shown in the laboratory that it is possible to navigate a virtual maze (like a simple video game) using only information received on the tongue (i.e., buzz on right side of tongue means turn right, etc.).3. A third, more ambitious application would be providing very crude visual information through the tongue for persons who are completely blind. Our colleague Eliana Sampaio at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg, France has used our tongue stimulator with a small video camera and demonstrated an equivalent visual acuity of about 20-to-830, which is very poor vision, but possibly useful for certain limited activities with enough practice. Wicab, Inc continues to improve this technology with the aim of commercializing it.4. A fourth application would be providing tactile feedback to the human operators of robots used forhttps://www.instructables.com/edit/new?type=forumTopic various tasks. For example, UW professor Nicola Ferrier is developing a robot controlled by the tongue of persons with quadriplegia which could incorporate touch sensors into its gripper, relaying the touch information back to the user's tongue. This summary taken from Synopsis of Tongue Display Technology 1/3/2008. Lots more information on the research page.More info on the general process of electrotactile stimulation here. (I can't believe that I am actually linking to How Stuff Works for this, but hey, there isn't an Instructable written for everything...yet.)

Turning an RPi into a "Sheikah Slate" (LOZ:BotW)

So recently I've been fiddling around with a few things. Plastic recycling, making a bluetooth game controller, and just being blown away by the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, just to name a few. And after getting a better look at the new key item in the game, the Sheikah Slate, Ive been trying to design one that can do a few of the things the one in the game can do. Im talking about the technical things and not the magical ability things. And just for good measure, throw in portable gaming console for emulated gaming on the go. So far, I have a few components I can piece together, but there are a few other problems that need solving. 1. Can an Amazon Fire 6" Screen be hooked up to a RPi 2 or higher? And if that's possible, is there any additional components needed to pull that off? (im talking about the screen itself, not the whole device) 2. What capacity of LiPo battery would be best suited for a project like this? 3. Would using Adafruit's "Bluetooth EZ Key" module be good to use as a way to control games on the RPi or a PC emulator? Im pretty sure I have more questions, but i'll ask em after these are out of the way.

There's a monster in my dining room....

Hey well for start let me say hi, First post here, been a fan for a while, just get a membership and getting a pro account next month. Wanna know is any other puppetiers, robotic peoples, or animatronic fans are hanging about town. I am a full time student and I also own my own business, a post apocalyptic wasteland business filled with animatronic monsters...and errr, video games. I will be posting some how to do instructables asap. I make alot of toy food too. But in september I am getting a load of animatronic kit delivered and cold war stuff, some crazy experiments coming. Also do you US' guys and girls have Gemmy talking skulls, from the halloween range of walmart cus I cannot get one and would be greatful and pay pbviusly to get one for by animatronics and hacks, cus in the uk...we don't get no Gemmy products in general, maybe the odd thing. I am so budget poor at the moment I will show everybody how to build an ellaborate henson monster 1980's puppet from egg boxes....ooooo sorry for the hyper active mail, just excited about incoming material, plus I got a laminating maachine today and forced a tonne of stuff through that sucker.... good times!

Brainstorming - Teamspeak PTT Bluetooth Device

Gurus of the Tech World, First off, I'm browsed through a lot of great idea and I've got to say, you all are geniuses.  Hopefully, someone can help steer me in the right direction.  I have made a few Windows Phone apps, made a few HTML websites and some networking fundamentals, but I've never really made a device... much less soldered a board. With that said, I want my first project to be a Bluetooth Push-to-Talk (PTT) button for Teamspeak.  I have a Bluetooth headset with a microphone for Teamspeak (VOIP PC Application) so I can hear people speaking while being away from the computer but I do not have a way to communicate back using the Push-to-Talk method. So, what I want to do is make a small Bluetooth device, maybe powered by a 9V, with a single PTT button, and maybe an ON/OFF switch to save power.  My thought is to program it so that it send a keystroke to my computer for the duration that the PTT button is pressed (CTRL would be ideal).  This is something that I want to make, using as much of my brain as possible and the least amount of prefabricated merchandise ("omg, just buy a bluetooth dongle and plug it into a button. ta-da"). I'm sure that this is something you guru's can do blindfolded, but, please, point me in the right direction... and use baby words. Thanks! Stryker2k2 (@stryker2k2)

Can you help me with my mini E.M.P. generator design?

Hello everyone! I am currently planning on bulding a handheld E.M.P. generator (it's dangerous, I know, sorry) that is capable of killing a small devices (e.g. a small camera) at close range (<10cm). I got to the capacitor bank and wondered if 180J is enough for my needs? I also have some other questions (in no particular order): - What is the bare minimum to kill such devices? - Does it normally take 90 secs to charge a 90uF bank to 2kV (using a DC boost converter)? I have never designed a high voltage charging circuit before so I don't really know if I'm doing things right. - Is my capacitor configuration good enough or does it need tweaking (e.g. more voltage)? - How do I protect my circuitry from getting blasted by the coil? - Is a single pulse sufficient? - What kind of switch should I use for high voltage? - Should I use lithium-ion batteries for supplying power? - Should I make the frame of the device out of metal? - Should I be using a DC boost converter for charging capacitors? If not, suggestion? - Should my coil have a little or a lot of inductance? Again, I am fully aware this has "Darwin Award" written all over, sorry about that, but I think this is safer than guessing around. Thank you for reading this! Looking forward to your responds!

What about a 3D simulation device??

Hi, Instructables community. This is a great place for making and sharing our projects. I am working on a 3D simulation device that uses rotational and linear motion wheels' axis as well as servos to control the finger position. What do you think about it? I had already made up a prototype. Can you suggest me if it would be a useful device? I think gaming. What are your views?? Thanks! :-) See you soon.....

CD Player spinning device

I recently found an old AA powered Portable CD player. Upon dismantling it, I found 6 wires, since which I have tested and discovered their function. My question to you all is, would there be any danger to hooking up a larger battery to the two wires that spin the CD? I tried briefly using a 9 Volt, and the results were simply amazing. I have a hack or two that I could really use this for, and I wanted the opinions of people here to see if there was any danger to doing this.

Using a USB Bluetooth bundle into a home brewed device

Hey everyone, I am a student in software engineering and I am leading a project with other folks in software and electric engineering as some artists which consist of developing a computer game that use a home brewed device. That device is essentially a wii-mote ripoff: we will use some gyroscopes and accelerometer to get user input. However, some of the parts we are looking for are very expensive, we need to do 3 of theses devices and we don't have a big budget :) Since the most expensive part is the bluetooth transmitter (our device needs to be wireless), I was looking for a workaround. First, why bluetooth? Well we thought using some FM or RF stuff, however that implies some rare stuff that is not embedded in our student computers and even more expensive... So that's why we thought using bluetooth... And my question is... Is that possible and not so complicated to use those cheap USB bluetooth bundle such as these ones: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords;=bluetooth+adapter ? When I say not so complicated, I mean that we won't have a big controller... we will have just what we need to get the data from analogical sensors turn it into digital data and send it over USB. Looking over the web I found that some RS232 to bluetooth bundles exists, however they are very expensive... It might be an utopia, electrical stuff is really not my field of study. Thanks for your help!

Gaining free game credits with Jackpot Credit Device?!? (Hack or Smokin Crack?)

I was surfing the web and came across these cheating 'devices.' The claim is that somehow these black boxes manipulate the system into giving additional free credits as you're feeding the machine and/or causing the machine to more likely pay out. I am 99.5% sure this is total BS. Still the chance to play TimeCrisis 3 for hours and hours at a deep discount sounds awesome. ;-)Here is the descriptions on the website: Third and Fourth Items downThis device was developed through years of research on machines and by beta testers. It has potential to jackpot or give credits in gambling machines and fruit machines. When put in a small box and powered by 1 or 2 (9VDC) batteries, it will fit in your pocket or up your sleeve. This unit can be used as a contact induction device (soundless arc system) or EMP induction device via magnetic induction pulses which are also soundless. This device uses in excess of 1000volts so use caution. There are two ways to use this device in either mode: as you are inserting coins, adding credits or adding money to the machine you activate the device and it will cause the credits to jump higher. The other way to use the device is to use it while you are playing and you have great odds of hitting a jackpot or winning. Kit includes all parts to build a complete unit to operate in either mode. The completed kit can be used in two modes: vacuum arc induction or magnetic induction coil mode. The device is so small you will need to coat it with epoxy and electrical tape, as a box would take up too much space. It is powered by one 9v battery, it will fit in your pocket, up your sleeve or in the palm of your hand. This unit is a contact induction device (soundless arc system) or can be converted into an EMP induction device via magnetic induction pulses which are also soundless and generated by connecting a small pinwheel coil to the output probes. This device generates around 500volts so use caution. There are two ways to use this device: as you are inserting coins, adding credits or adding money to the machine, you activate the device and it will cause the credits to jump. The other way to use the device is to activate it while you are playing and you have great odds of hitting a jackpot or winning. Kit includes all parts to build one complete unit, epoxy and tape not included.

12v device to switch on a 9v device (signal to switch on only)

I have a device that is switched on by a sensor, powered by 12v, 1.3amp battery. I have another device that is switched on by a mechanical push button switch, this is powered by a 9v battery. I want to piggy back on the wires that switch on the 12v device and take the signal (to turn on only) to the device that is already powered by a 9v battery and normally turned on by a push button switch. ( I want to replace this mechanical push button switch with an "electronic switch" turned on and off the the presence and absence of the 12v signal) I want the 9v device to switch on only when the 12v device switches on and switch off when the 12v device switches off. Also I want the 9v device to only run on the original 9v battery (not accepting power from the 12v device and not returning any power from the 9v device to the 12v device. Is there a switch device/relay that can do this? A device that I can just connect between the wires going from the 12v device to the 9v device? I am a novice to electronics please be kind. I an open to using part from another device, and basic mods. Thank you

Bypass batteries in devices that have a built-in chargers.

I guess mobile phones and ipods are examples of this. So, you have a device that has a removable rechargeable battery that you can usually charge directly in the device. Sometimes, (like in laptops) you can plug in to the mains and run the device without the battery at all -- bypassing the battery, so to speak. You can't do this with phones or ipods though. If you remove the battery, the device won't run. Is there some guide/hack that would show me how I could get round this? Thanks.

Instructable for xshot-type device?

Hi, I've seen all the instructables for monopods and string stablilizer things, but I was wondering if there is anyone that knows how one would make a device that you can connect to your camera and take a picture of yourself, or get yourself in a group shot. There is a device called the xshot, but I'd rather make my own! Thanks!

mirror cell phone to comp or other similar device

Does any body know if a company makes a device that can wirelessly display your phones information on a small monitor or lcd device. My thought is to replace my factory GM radio with a raspberry pi and have the Pi have a "live" view of my cell phones screen for GPS google play RDIO etc.
