Game Help

I need help. I've wanted to make a good 3D game for a long time now, and I don't know what to do next. I've downloaded the latest version of Blender on my computer, but my computer is very laggy, has an inconsiderate graphics card, and I have no idea how I'll be able to play it other than on the blender game engine. I took careful notes, I already have a pretty good idea what I want to make, but the idea is so huge, that I don't think my computer (or any computer) could handle it. I have excellent artistic skills, and I've made a lot of thumbnail drawings, conceptual artwork, and details. But I have absolutely no skills at programming, and I've never made a game before. What should I do now? I'm working on learning how to use blender, but since I just got it today, I might be a couple of decades...If I can't make this game, is there a company that I could sell my plans to in some hope that a game might be made? If I can't make a game, I suppose a good 3D movie would work as well...... But I just don't know yet.

Logic Goats papercraft

Here is a super cute little project which I found unaccredited on 4chan (who'd have thought?)  Logic Goats!  Papercraft logic gates in the shape of goats, which nod their head when the appropriate inputs are given.  There are four (there may be others I haven't found): And-Goat Or-Goat Xor-Goat Not-Goat I haven't made any of them up but I plan to this weekend!  I'll post pix if I manage to do this :) Update: these are from a website called robives.com, which sells them; I've removed these copies as they're clearly pirated.  Thanks for pointing this out, meeze!  I couldn't find attribution on the PDFs themselves yesterday but on checking again today, one does have the url on it and they're all on the site for purchase (see links above). (Note about Internet safety.  There is an attack which is becoming more common, which can be embedded in PDFs using the Javascript capability in Adobe Reader.  I did a bit of research and I am confident that these Logic Goat PDFs don't contain any malicious code, but as with anything on the Internet, download at your own risk.  In general it is wise to disable Javascript in Adobe Reader, if you use that for PDF viewing.  There is an interesting discussion of one of these attacks here: http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=7867)

Recover Outlook Express data?

I'm trying to help a friend who's computer got into a state where windows would not boot. Windows repair and a few other tricks didn't work and he didn't have many programs so I just re-installed windows but not before taking a full image of the original drive state. Everything works great now except he says he had a lot of old emails saved that are gone now and his address book is empty. I already reconfigured outlook express to get his mail (standard pop3) and that's working fine but obviously his old stuff was not on the server nor was his address book. Since I have a copy of all his old data logically their should be a way to recover and manually bring his old email and address book into the new installation. However I wasn't able t do a proper export so basically all i have is a copy of the files from the old HDD. What files should I be looking to copy back from the old image and how should i import them so as to not destroy his new mail that's downloaded but still restore his old mail and contacts?

Can I create a quadrocopter RC transmitter using an Arduino?

I recently started playing with a quadrocopter. I love it, but I am not a fan of the traditional RC transmitters. I believe that they were designed for older RC airplanes and I think the design could be improved upon. I have also recently started experimenting with Arduino. I bought a USB shield and downloaded a fancy library and I can now control my more simple robotics projects using my wireless Xbox controller.  What I really want to do is send radio signals from my Arduino to my quad without altering the quad in any way. Perhaps the easiest solution would be to cannibalize my current transmitter, but I wonder if there is another way. I'm new at electronics but I'd really like get things going. Maybe a few more detailed questions would be helpful. 1. Can a custom built RC transmitter be paired with any RC receiver? 2. What sort of Arduino parts would I want to look for to accomplish RC transmission? I've seen a couple of 2-6 channel transmitters, but would like more resources to understand how they interact with receivers. Any other information/links would be greatly appreciated.

Tablet Help?

I recently purchased a used pandigital novel tablet. Unfortunately it has some problems. The most major of these is that some of the aplications don't work. The really critical one that doesn't work is the "ES File Explorer" which is what lets me do almost all of the app management and the fike system options. When the icon is tapped it brings up a notification that the "application is not installes on your phone" I think the problem is that when the OS (Android 2.0 by the way) was installed the I cons were placed on the home page but the Aplication wasn't installed. I have downloaded the .APK aplication file for the ES file explorer on another computer and copied it to the 1 GB SD card. But I can't move the APK file onto the tablet internal storage from the SD card because I don't have a file manager installed. I canpt access the tablets internal memory when it is plugged into the computer. The computer just looks at the tablet as a card reader for the SD card. Also some other aplications don't work. These include: Office suite QVC Sam Slide application store. If someone could please please help me I would be ery happy if you neeed more info just ask. thanks.

is it possible to root my sam-sung intercept (sprint) with the froyo update? and what about flash player? [answered]

Is it possible to root my samsung intercept (sprint) with the froyo update? what really pisses me off about this phone is that it has NO flash player at all. ive tried installing it from the adobe website, Googleing "flash plater 10 for 2.1", and looked throughout the market. its not there (i thought it is there for 2.2 froyo but NOOOO this phone has to be horrible). also moved the app from "downloads" to "tunnybrowser> app_plugins" nothing works any suggestions? can anyone offer me some simple rooting and flashing this phone? also, will writing a sudo command in the "ROOT" folder work? it seems like i can. using this phone it so far seems i can "create" a folder in the ROOT folder. will this work or will it brick my phone? using some apps from the market, i discovered my phones CPU does not go higher than 199MHz. this REALLY UNPLEASANTLY PISSED ME OFF. NO WONDER WHY MY PHONE IS SO DAMN SLOW! how do i increase it to the 800MHz it was rated for? and what would happen if i tried to over-clock it to 1 ghz?

Is this possible with the Raspberry Pi?

So I have recently purchased a Raspberry Pi and I finally go the time to mess around with it a little bit.  So far i have only installed the NOOBS software and have downloaded the recommended Raspian operating system, and have been using it as a desktop computer.  That is all I have done so far.  So I have an idea of something i want to create with the Pi.  I also have the camera module for the Pi and I'd like to put it to use.  I would like to have the Pi, with the camera module attached and operating, in one location, with a monitor of some sort, possibly a cell phone or just a display i would purchase, and have the camera wirelessly send the video feed to the monitor.  I'm assuming this is possible because i have seen instructables on here where people use the Pi to make security cameras. My idea is similar, just none of the ibles i found quite hit the idea on the head.  So, i guess i'm looking for someone to tell me if this is possible, and point me in the direction of how to go about doing this, or if there are any ibles on here that are exactly this that I have missed. Thanks

How can I play Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The sith lords on a netbook?

Hi all! I own a emachine em250 and was wondering if it was possible to run Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The sith lords (SWKOTOR 2) I have 3d analyser which can emulate HW T&L (Hardware Transforming and lighting) and according to both the back of the box and System requirements lab, I should be able to run it ( due to the emulated HW T&L) Oh, what happens is that I create my player, click play, it displays the loading screen and then about 3 cm away from finishing it flickers, and finishes loading, it then goes completly black and does not respond, eg. I have to shut down the pc/put it to sleep. So does anyone know the configuration for 3d analyser? or how I could just play it? I have 1.66 ghz of CPU, 1GB of RAM, 224 mb or video ram edit: I also tried downloading someone elses save file to see if it is just the load up that is failing... Its not. PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks in advance Nathan (Ghostmonkeys)

Put the robot on your browser.

So yesterday when I had the usual Firefox Google page open up there was a little thing at the bottom that advertised an add-on called Personas. I checked it out and it turns out it has a lot of different "skins" for Firefox that you can interchange without restarting your browser. So, when I saw that you could make your own skins I thought of one thing, an Instructables persona, and here it is. For those who think that the amount of orange on each page of Instructables is not enough for their daily lives. The file for the footer is 3000x100 pixels. The file for the headers is 3000x200 pixels which is required for the headers and footers. The pictures below are just showing what the right sides of the different headers look like. The links below lead to the original files for the headers and footers so you can make them a part of your browser, just follow the instructions here, go to "Do I have to add my Persona to the public gallery?". Just download the original pics from these pages.Robot Header copyRobot Header 1 copyRobot Header 2 copyRobot Header 3 copyFooter it is just the darker orange color on the headerUPDATE:The persona for the first one is finally available on Personas

Help with an instructable based on xAMP/WAMP server and Arduino?

Hey friends! I and our friends are working on this instructable for our school project. : Using fingerprint sensor for time attendance in combination with xAMP solution                    But i'm a beginner in arduino and want someone's help. I posted to the author but i think he is also new to instructables so he seldom comes online. Anyways. So there are many things i want to learn. Plz someone help me. The project we are working on will first enroll the fingerprints of students (atleast 50-60 in a class of our school) and then upload the data to the xAMP (or WAMP) database. And there will be 3 pairs of 7 segment led mounted on a board like given in the image, which will display the real-time data of Present and Absent students. First i want to know is this fingerprint sensor compatible with the program given in the above instructable, because it looks a bit different from the one adafruit.com and comes without jack and wire. Also im unable to download the registreer.php file given by the author and i dont know how to use it and the sql file. At last is there a way to use serial or bluetooth communication instead of wifi to make this project because it is going out of our budget. Plz help anyone. i will be very obliged. thanks in advance..... :)

Please join K'nex group on Groupie

Alright, so to help start the community back up, I was hoping to find a group of K'nexers on a website/app called Groupie. It's actually pretty cool, but I mean not to advertise. Anyway, it is basically a message board where you pick all of the different forum topics you want to be a part of, or you can make your own. I made a K'nexing one but no one whatsoever has joined it. I want to get people from here to join because: 1. A little activity to jumpstart the group may result in more people actually from Groupie joining. 2. We can have an easier way to chat in between a forum here and a live chat. It's much quicker than posting a topic, but posts will stay up and open for discussion so you don't have to be in the room at the time to discuss. So if you would, first sign up on Groupie (or download the free app if you have an iOS device) then join the group 200173 which is my group once you're on. And of course feel free to check out other groups and whatnot, you'll probably enjoy it, but again I mean not to advertise the site so much as get people in my group.

Torrenting a movie you own (Legality)? Answered

So, i have been wondering this for a while now, and thought to ask here before I did something stupid and got the feds at my door :) Is it legal to torrent a movie I own? For example, I have an old copy of the Incredibles, but since it was released in 2004, the movie has seen its fair share of use, and at the moment is too scratched to be played (Unfortunately I did not rip a backup...).  So under these circumstances, would it be legal to torrent the movie file, as I have the actual, physical disk of the movie? What about VHS tapes (got my fair share of those). Getting these on my computer would just be some $70 software/recording equipment... it would be faster and cheaper to download them instead of getting shoddy quality off of a 15 year old VHS.  What about for a disc that has been solen? We had our car broken into at one point, and got some 10 DVDs stolen out of it (around 8 of which didnt have a backup)... I would like to be able to get those back, legally, without having to spend $150 re-buying movies already purchased...

How do I actually PROGRAM a z80, 8088, 8035, or their predecessors? (schematic, code, assemblers, UVeproms?)? Answered

I have a z80, apparently, with supporting ICs, on a PCB waiting to be salvaged. All I could find online for z80 programming was this guy who was making a whole computer out of it. And a lame "z80 world" site that doesn't help me. Also, on a separate board, I have a couple of Toshiba TMP8035P (with UVeprom nearby), whose online "datasheet" says that it's instruction set and pin compatible with the intel 8048.see:http://www.atarihq.com/danb/files/8048.txtand:http://download.theicstock.com/TMP/359/TMP8035P_1541359.pdfI have programmed microcontrollers before, so I know a tiny bit of what is needed for programming them. (Note: modern microcontrollers, in basic-esque languages, notably picaxes and basic stamps)My problem is in how to actually make the program on my computer, press the download button, and the chip run the program. I have no idea how to do assembly, (or find the right assembler). I am also clueless as to hook the computer up to the chip. (I suspect it requires a parallel port, but I think I only have DB9-pin serial easily available. I do have a single parallel port in a win98 computer, but it would be a pain in the butt.)In addition, I don't have a UVeprom eraser light. (I have an uncle who does, but I only meet him every now and then. Maybe he would let me borrow it?)Another problem is, I'm on a time limit. It does not have to be done tommorrow, but if I do not clear the garage of my currently un-programmable outdated microcontrollers soon, I will be too busy with college this fall of 2009 to work on those things, and my parents will force me to throw them away.As for the 8035's my uncle also needs room in his garage, and if I can't program mine soon, then he will throw away his remaining stash of them. (No sense in holding on to equipment your nephew can't program in a timely fashion)By the way, the same uncle dumped a CMX controller on me, with a weird keyboard, huge scroll wheel mouse, and the big box with computer-like guts inside, and a gazillion I/O ports on the back. He said it could be programmed, but Wikipedia said the company that made this video-editing machine went bankrupt or something. If I had the "instruction set", I assume assembly, in addition to a download circuit, then I can use this thing for controlling lots of cool things.Oh, and my uncle is very nice to me, so don't think I don't like him just because his hobby is dumping old junk on me.PS: I'm just whining, but it seems all these old microcontrollers, equipment and whatnot assume I grew up with these. I didn't, so anything beyond plugging in a basic program to a picaxe is rocket science to me. (No, I'm not Russian)

Finally made the switch from Opera to Firefox

I am just so sick of Opera. It drives me up the fucking wall. Sometimes when I close it, the next time I start it up it will start up a new instance of opera with totally new tabs and any changes I made to it go poof. And then the next time I start it up again it starts up the old opera that was supposed to open up last time, and all my transfers from the last time are gone again. It just happened thing morning. I was downloading a Bungie ViDoc (Bungie Halo 3 documentary) last night, and had 5 MB on it. And then I open Opera this morning and POOF. It's just gone! Argh. So I've finally moved over to Firefox. I'm just sick of all the glitches and inconsistencies. I could go on and on and on. Unfortunately, this means I have to use Thunderbird now. That's not nescessarily a bad thing, it just means that my mail/RSS and browsing are now separate. I know it's going to be a pain in the ass, but at least it won't suddenly fail on me or forget my settings. At least it will be consistent and reliable. One great thing about Firefox: it doesn't adhere to web standards (unlike Opera), which means that Instructables displays correctly! :D

Want to move "tv b gone" project from Arduino(Atmega328P) to Atmega8A

Hello. I found "Tv b gone" project which i can write to my arduino. It worls perfectly. I want to make it smaller but i don't want to waste my arduino board and Atmega328P which sits inside of an arduino. Here is a video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfdVdPwPhWU Works on one IR diode (would be glad if can do the same on atmega8a) There is a link to download the code for arduino: http://arcfn.com/files/arduino-tv-b-gone-1.2.zip Project page (guy changed the code to working on arduino) http://www.righto.com/2009/12/tv-b-gone-for-arduino.html Original project page where originally everything is working on ATtiny85. https://learn.adafruit.com/tv-b-gone-kit/design-notes If needed I've got Arduino UNO, USBasp (can burn program with USBasp using Eclipse C/C++ or ArduinoIDE) I want to know if i could make it work on Atmega8 (internal oscilator/external crystal?) (got many of these, don't want to buy new microcontroller) without any effort? I would appreciate if someone help me. Sorry for my English. I'm from Europe.

Provide 1000 cheap, wireless climate data loggers - Citizen Science Contest

The SciStarter Citizen Science Contest is live! This is your opportunity to help millions of citizen scientists contribute to real scientific discovery. Make their experiences better by coming up with solutions to some real annoyances that hinder their participation. To get you started, here is a specific--and very real--challenge sent to us by project organizers. PROVIDE 1000 CHEAP WIRELESS CLIMATE DATA LOGGERS Background: Wildlife of Our Homes provides an opportunity for citizen scientists to help researchers study the species that live alongside us everyday - bacteria, fungi, and insects. By using a sampling kit and answering a few questions, volunteers help researchers create an atlas of microbial diversity in homes across the country. The Problem: Project organizers would love to collect climate data in each of the 1000 homes where volunteers are sampling microbes from 4 common surfaces. Unfortunately, climate sensors are expensive, and more importantly, project organizers don't have an easy way to transfer data from those home sensors (temperature, humidity, etc) to an online database. Currently, they must physically retrieve and download the data. The Challenge: Find a way to log climate data and wirelessly transmit the data to the project organizers. Enter now! Contest closes January 21, 2013

Winning Pwn2Own Hacker: Macs Are Safer Than PCs

Well, its nice to see the that the winner has common sense on his side.I've grabbed various bits of this from Gizmodo, whom got it from Tom's Hardware."I'd say that Macs are less secure for the reasons we've discussed here (lack of anti-exploitation technologies) but are more safe because there simply isn't much malware out there. For now, I'd still recommend Macs for typical users as the odds of something targeting them are so low that they might go years without seeing any malware, even though if an attacker cared to target them it would be easier for them."Be sure to read the Article before you start flaming. It mirrors what me and goodhart were saying before,A computers security is based entirely on the user.I used windows for over 2 years, with no anti-virus, no anti-spyware. Just a good firewall, and my common sense. My first rule of computing common sense is, only download pictures, music, and movies. If your going to get some illegal software get it from someone else whom has used the install files, and knows they work! Also, do not trust ll.13 when he links to your a serial website without informing you that most of them are Trojans.

transferring voice/meeting from itouch to pc

This should be easy, i will be looking for my cables after this this, so this is a safety net if i fail,  i want to transfer  a meeting recorded  using the  iphone/itouch  italk app to my PC, i never used the app before, so messed up by not pretesting thoroughly, i still probably would have missed the limit on file size. i bought the premium version of italk next, big $2 , but it downloaded as a separate app. with no files to transfer, i figure rather then go crazy reading all the stuff i would take a earphone cord and plug it into one of my PC line in audio jacks and just play the file. like i did 20 some years ago with cassette tapes and vinyl. wish they would have put the limits on the front screen, i would have spent the 2 bucks to save all this  i looked for a folder to just import the folder or cay the folder the itouch, just accessed the dcim folder, the file is aiff and about 90 minutes so i if had a program to look into the the itouch i am sure i could copy it, would be way faster too, like 90minutes! anyone know a open source utility that would get me in into the itouch and get this proprietary hidden file? thanks in advance. /

Need help/advice (or an insctructable) on making a stronger wifi router, and then protecting it...

I have a wireless printer on my network which has been a godsend to me, but it requires the network to be unsecured (theoretically it can log into a secure network, but that just never works). I was fine with that at my old house, as my neighborhood's average age was about 60+, with my wife and I bringing that average down from 75+ due to being the only 30 somethings in the area. But we just moved, and I'm seeing already a half dozen leeches on my wireless, and about 6 dozen nearby strong signals all secured. So I can't secure my signal for the printer, but don't want to share... what am I to do? Another issue is added to the problem - the reason I moved to this house was the neighbor across the street from me is a long time friend, and we thought it would be a good idea to wirelessly network for lan games, as well as splitting the cost of a high speed line. But my signal dies somewhere in the middle of the street, and so does his! So now, I want to boost my signal to get it over to his house, strong enough to let him play games and download files without noticing any delays, PLUS keep it 'unsecured' so my printer can get into it, but still block out the rest of the neighborhood who is leeching off of my signal. Is there a solution possible?

Effects of Inductors Coupling?

This is a follow up post from this thread >> https://www.instructables.com/community/Guitar-Wah-Wah-Pedal-Help/ (It was about how to fix my Wah-Wah guitar pedal, it turns out the Inductor was not working, so I replaced it) I replaced a broken 500mh INDUCTOR in my guitar pedal with a new one. It works now. However, I am planning on keeping the broken inductor in my wah wah pedal (because it yielded a cool volume pedal sound). I want to rig up the circuit so that I can switch from from the GOOD conductor to the BAD conductor. My questions are: Will there be any major effects from having two inductors coupling? Should I be wary of the 'winding' of the coils? If so, what should I do in order to be consistent with the winding? And out of curiosity, how could I rig this up?  Here is the schematic >> http://www.voxamps.com/downloads/circuits/wahwah93.jpg 500mh Inductor = L1 I have 3 terminal DPST switch. This is how I imagine rigging it up: I'm thinking of having wires from the inductor terminals on the PCB wired to a terminal on the SWITCH, then to the INDUCTOR, and then back to the PCB. The same follows for the other (bad) inductor. If this is not clear, please let me know, or feel free to post a better way to rig this up. In summary for this last question How could I rig this circuit to switch between two inductors? Thanks.

Hi3516 Access Root Error

First, I apologize for my english. I have a camera module with hi3516 SoC and have to access to hi3516 as root. But I couldn't that. If I begin to explain from start. I had an IPC, extracted it and now I have 3 modules (camera module, ir cut module and power / api module). I found 3 holes on camera module, these are GND, Rx and Tx. I soldered them with 3 female jumper cables and connect to ftdi module. I used micro USB to USB for ftdi-pc connection. Powered up camera module with 12V. In while, I download a program, what name is coolterm, to my pc. I opened coolterm and set baud rate to 115200 (hi3516 standard). Camera module booted up. I pressed a button when I see "Hit any key to stop autoboot: 1" text. Until here I followed an article and everything is fine. But that article says "You have to press enter after to type "root" to gain shell access" and I can't access shell when type "root". I got an error like "Unknown command 'root' - try 'help'". Hi3516 has embedded linux os. Article Link: https://felipe.astroza.cl/hacking-hi3518-based-ip-camera/ Any ideas to help me?

Tool-use observed in molluscs!

Everybody knows that humans are "special", somehow different from the other animals on our little blue planet, but it is very difficult to define just how. An early casualty in defining "special" was tool-use.  First chimpanzees, then primates, even birds were observed using tools - hammers, anvils, probing tools, fishing rods, weapons. Now a mollusc is being presented as a tool-user. The veined octopus Amphioctopus marginatus has been filmed by divers collecting coconut shell halves (actually human litter, dumped in the sea) and carrying them away to use later as a shelter. Their habitat is open, featureless sediment, no protection from predators.  The shells provide vital shelter in the exposed underwater plain. If the octopus finds a single half-shell, it digs it up, carries away and then turns it over when needed. If the clever creature is lucky enough to find two halves, it stacks on inside the other, then later "rebuilds" a whole coconut, except this time with a yummy octopus filling. This is another example of high-level intelligence in these bizarre animals.  To me, octopus are a prime candidate for the next "special" animals on Earth, once those polluting apes are out of the scene... I have multiple questions on interfacing the arduino with a computer. (refer to details) Answered

First of all I don't have hardly any experience with arduino, only with nxt.  Also I am trying to make a telepresence robot.  I have it figured out so that I can use Skype to video conference.  Then using yuuguu I can control the computer on the teleprescence robot.  The only thing that I need to do now is make a platform that will move around, with the arduino, that can take commands from the computer.  Kind of like a remote on the computer.  So that way I can use a laptop and control the robot by controlling the computer on the robot.  (sorry if that doesn't make sense, basically i just need a platform that takes commands from the computer it is connected to) Which leads me to my first question... 1) Can the Arduino be controlled by a computer? 2) If so, then what should I use to give it the commands easiest? 3) Which arduino should I use (it doesn't need to be versatile, just work consistently for this) 4) How do I program it/what commands do I use.(I have the arduino programming software downloaded, but don't know how to use it yet...) 5) How would I control motors/servos with the arduino I know it is a lot of questions, but please help. Thanks in advance!

Should i switch to Windows Seven? Answered

I'm currently on xp, i have a 2nd drive to make it easy to transfer data and i play A LOT of videogames (team fortress 2, halo. etc...) so i want to know if i should change to seven. I want to know if i will be able to play Call of Duty 4, and a bunch of SOURCE engine games on that OS, would running both a heavy OS and the game could lower my FPS? No problem with the money, as i will just warez download it. Any way to block a central computer from screen-watching me at school?

So the good old school library bumped up its security this year - you know, cool wastes of money like biometric scanners. Now, while I giggle every time I check out a book, I can't even bring myself to browse the internet. Never mind the fact that the school seems to be running IE's grandfather  for a browser (we just got tabs last year). Never mind that we as a junior class finally discovered the joys of caching, and that last year someone seemed to have started running Firefox off a USB to download mario games to the desktops. Our efforts have been in vain. All the library's computers are now linked to the central computer, so that the librarian can watch about 12 screens in real time simultaneously. She just sits there and watches your screen. Shoot me now. It's really not a big deal, as I normally only do legit research in school, but now I'm curious - is it possible to trick the main comp? Like, somehow running Firefox from USB invisibly if I have the bastardized IE up on the side? Or do I just save anything deviant for unsuspecting teacher computers?

DIY Instructables Handbook

I just had a great idea, different instructables people should make different handbooks for different subjects that they are good in. Those types of books at stores are usually really overpice and have a ton of information that you'll never use and just makes the book fatter. I'm personally making an electronic on, fitting 4 pages on one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, making each sheet of the book ~3.25" X ~4.5. If you make one please upload a pdf file so that others can download it, cut it, and assemble it to have a crafty pocket refrence! This is the table of contents of electronic book (so far):TABLE OF CONTENTSFormulas....................................Definitions andSchematic Symbols....................Conversions................................Prefixes.......................................Resistor Code.............................Capacitor Code...........................Inductor Code..............................AWG Specifications.....................General Electronic Tips...............First page:General outline:E=VoltsI=CurrentR=ResistanceP=Watts (Power)L=InductanceC=CapatanceG=ConductanceOhms Law: E=IRPower Formula: P=IEResistors in series: Rtotal=R1+R2+R3...Resistors in Parallel:Rtotal=(R1-1+R2-1+R3-1+.....)-1orstill working on it (and the subscribts and superscripts didn't translate too well, but you get the idea.If you have any formulas that you want me to put in the electronics reference then post a comment! Some topics for references could be:WoodworkingConstructionCookingRadioetc.

i wanna make a blood pressure signal generator using purely analog parts.

I found this link : http://www.designnotes.com/downloads/MK105_Assembly.pdf. i was wondering if i could modify this or other suggestions?Or could i just run two together and use a different frequency somehow needs to look similar to this: http://www.biopac.ca/images/img23.gif edit:sorry , i was at work and didnt realise that it would be so confusing, so heres a few details I have access to a 9 Vdc line. using that i need to create a blood pressure signal, where it peaks at 1.2v and lowest is .8V with a slight bounce after thepeak. You can see it in the image that i posted.  i was thinking of using a 555 timer and series of resistors/caps,which i could create a sine wave with it. But how would i go about creating the bounce?  So essentially simulating a perfect blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg , that i could input into my ECG machine or view on an scope. I am also limited to purely analog. So i can use microcontrollers and the likes. But i am allowed to use 555 timers, op-amps etc. BTW the ideas that i have seen are great, especially the one using valves and a sewing motor, i cannot use it unfortunately. I might make it during the summer

FREE Schematic publisher(also includeds breadboard and PCB view)IN ALPHA

I did a search and didn't see it on this site anywhere, but I see a huge need for a number of the members here to be able to draw schematics and even simulate a breadboard or PCB. This software is free(but it is still in ALPHA testing). I have no affiliation with this site so I can only answer questions about usability from my opinion. For what a lot of people need on this site to help make "instructables"  that have electronic curcuits in them I think this is perfect. Especially if you can't afford high dollar software, plus if you're not an electronic engineer this software will teach you proper terminalogy and proper drawing designations as well. From what I know, all parts on the program are editable. So if you need a green 3.6v LED you can edit the one that comes default on the program and save it in your tool kit and use it for another project later. Hopefully everybody sees this. If the Mods know of a place to put this where it may be more accesible and visible to everybody here, please move it. Here's the link to find the software. They have it for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux 64 and 32 bit http://fritzing.org/download/ Enjoy PS, don't forget this software is in Alpha, so contact the devs and tell them if you have problems or you'd like to see changes

How to move project to work on Atmega8a?

I found also something like this. https://code.google.com/p/mircho-avrcode/source/browse/#hg%2FatmegaCode%2Ftvbgone-atmega8 but I need EU codes Sorry for my English. I'm from Europe.

Dropbox application in background process on OpenWRT processor of my Arduino Yun.

Hello everybody, Simple question: does the Arduino YUN support the same DROPBOX functionalities as my laptop? Basically, I need to download data from the SD card of my Arduino Yun to my application server. But the internet connection of my Arduino is not very stable. How I want it to work: 1.    I have a sketch that writes data on a TXT file to my SD card every 10 minutes 2.    I want to install Dropbox on my Arduino Yun 3.    Then, whenever the Yun is connected, it will synchronize all the files from the SD Card with my Dropbox folder on my server. That would happen (I guess) in the background, without my Arduino needing to run a sketch. To do that, I think I need drobox to run ‘in the background’ on my Arduino microprocessor. Did anyone do this before? Thanks. What does NOT work: Initially, I used the "LogToDropbox" sketch inserted in the "Datalogging to Dropbox with Arduino Yun" tutorial at the following link: https://www.instructables.com/id/Datalogging-to-Dropbox-with-Arduino-Yun/ in order to ‘actively’ upload files to my Dropbox app console from my SD card with an internet connection. But if , my Arduino Yun is losing the internet connection, it is impossible to upload the files created during the downtime to my Dropbox app console. These files are stored on the SD card plugged on the Yun during this time interval, but not synchronized.

instructables and a few issues with Mac, iPhone and iPad

I have had numerous issues related to writing step by step instructables on my iPad as well as iPhone and my mac....this site needs its own app for iPad and iPhone....I use my mac at home with similar problems...here are a few of the issues: While writing in the text box, when you go to delete a few letters, the cursor jumps to either the beginning of the paragraph or goes directly to the end... there is no internal spell check within the contents of the text box toolbar area or any where else that I can find the a few times I wrote an entire step and went to save it and then a error window appeared and I lost all of the data in that step when uploading images, sometimes you get a progress bar and other times not...never sure if its uploading or not for the first minute or so THIS IS WHAT I HAVE RECEIVED IN THE PAST TWO DAYS WHEN TRYING TO DOWNLOAD THE THANKSGIVING CHALLENGE..MIND YOU I JUST INSTALLED THE FIREFOX BROWSER BECAUSE SAFARI HAD SIMILAR ISSUES... Firefox can't find the file at https://www.instructables.com/pdf/Thanksgiving-Challenge/Thanksgiving-Challenge.pdf?includeHeader=on&includeTableOfContents=on&includeImages=on&imageSize=MEDIUM&includeRelated=on&includeComments=on&includeImages=off&includeComments=off&includeTableOfContents=off&includeRelated=off&includeHeader=off.

Eye-fi Eye Films now a Thanksgiving contest prize

Instructables just received some beta Eye-fi Eye-Film cards. These amazing little devices are SD-memory-card-shaped packages that go in your camera and wirelessly upload images. Right now, the awesome people at Eye-fi have a few of the major photo-sharing and photo-storing sites integrated with their service.I took a picture of numberandom in the shop, and before I got back to my computer, the image had been uploaded here to my Flickr account, geo tagged, and placed on a map. Holy cow that's awesome! Now, I will admit that right now the integration with Instructables is quite lacking (I had to download the image in this post from Flickr and reupload it to Instructables!). However, I'm sure everyone can see the direction this wonderful piece of hardware moves us in -- one step closer to the Memex! "One can now picture a future investigator in his laboratory. His hands are free, and he is not anchored. As he moves about and observes, he photographs and comments." More here and here.In the near future, you'll be able to just take pictures and have them automatically appear on the web ready for use. Anyone remember developing film pictures (and maybe scanning them)? Hopefully, uploading will soon go the same way. We have three of these that we're giving away as Grand Prizes for the Thanksgiving contest. So, if you want to take your documenting and picture taking to the next level, you'll really need to take Thanksgiving to the next level.

Seeking Advice on parts and next steps to make computer controlled toy

I'd like a fun project for my 6 year old but one that would still keep me interested. What we've come up with is this :  A device that we could fit into a stuffed animal's head that would spin its head in different /axes depending on the sounds it hears or at random intervals.  What specific parts and approaches would you recommend? I've done some electronic design decades ago but am rusty and am not that familiar with microcontrollers but am a fluent web programmer. I'm looking for advice on what parts I'd need , especially with regard to the micro controller (my initial thought was a STAMP 2) and motor assembly.   Below are the features we'd like to incorporate.  Features:  -small enough to fit inside a 4 inch round stuffed animal's head. -battery powered -One or more sound sensors that would enable the motor to respond (ie, turn toward)  a sound. -The ability to play and record sounds. -variable speed motor and preferably one that would be able to turn the head on more than one axis (sideways and up and down) -At least 10 programmable actions. A sample action would be to spin the animal's head toward a sound.  -nice to have: ability to plug into a usb port and download new programs and sounds from our website Recommended parts list? Design software or websites? anything would be helpful to get us going in the right direction

Very Strange Error??!!

Ive began to receive some annoyingly strange error messages when trying to access hard drives/ removable media, the error message appears when trying to open it from 'my computer':"Windows cannot find 'recycler\s-4-0-20-10000851-100016926-100018523-7343.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."Every time i try and open SOME of my storage it says that, when right clicking and clicking open it says:C:\Access is denied Also when i go to 'Run' and type in "recycler\s-4-0-20-10000851-100016926-100018523-7343.com"the very same message appears. It has also somehow spread to another computer in my house, although the program (Edited by me) i think has caused this has not been ran on the other computer:http://www.k-fix-it.synthasite.com/downloadClick on sixaxis.zip Could somebody check that out for me?? (ps3sixaxis_en.exe, other files *.vbs, ps3.exe are mine)"s-4-0-20-10000851-100016926-100018523-7343.com" was also at one time on the processes list in Task Manager....Also only some drives were coming up with this error but after a while they where too?? I have no idea on how to remove this and its beginning to get VERY annoying.. Thanks Kieran

Guidance & Info about Quadcopter Project?

Greetings lads, I'm new in forum and since I made some research the past days I'd like to get some guidance about constructing & programming a Quadcopter from scratch since I'm completely new on a project like that. Quadcopter Frame: Thinking about to construct an aluminum 70cm diameter frame which will weight around 500g. What kind of motors should I get in order the frame with the board, motors etc. will be able to lift? Board: I'm thinking to use Arduino Uno or Raspberry Pi 2.0 ( With a little bit of research I made I conclude that Raspberry could make my life a little bit easier since you can add wifi on it. The quadcopter will be controlled via a pc/laptop through wifi). What can you suggest and why? ESC: As far as I've seen in most of similar projects people using ESCs in order to control the motors throttle. Can you avoid that, with programming PIDs that make the same job in order not to use more hardware? About PIDs and Code in General: Thinking about to simulate the whole project in Simulik, Matlab and somehow (if it's possible) to convert the Matlab Code into C++ and download it on the chip. What do you think about that? About the whole project: I'm trying to minmize the hardware as much as it's possible (use only 4x motors, the board with the chip on it, cables and probably some sensors) in order to minimize the total weight of construction and ofc the price. That's all for a start. I'm gladly waiting for your answers and ideas. Cheers  :)

Ubuntu 10.10X64 Live on USB Question? Answered

Hi! As a project I decided to install ubuntu 10.10 X64 Live to my flash drive so I can take it around with me anywhere I go. I'm familiar with this operating system, but I don't have it on my home computer, I just wanted to put it on a usb. Anyway, I used Unetbootin (  http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ ) to put it on my drive. It boots fine. The only problem is that I don't think it installed to the usb. Changes that I have made don't seem to stay and drivers that I download don't stay either. Its sort of frustrating becsue while I'm familiar on how to use it, I'm not familiar on getting it to work. Anyway, when I go to the boot menu and select the usb, it gives me several options: Default, Install Ubuntu, Boot from Hard drive, Install Ubuntu (to hard drive), and several others including repair. Now I first was clued into the fact it didn't install because it showed install as an option on this boot menu. The problem is that I want ubuntu on the flash drive, portable, but I don't want it on my machine. The Unetbootin is great, but it doesn't give any instructions for after its installed the software. All it tells you is to reboot.  I would like to keep using this software because I trust it, but I need to get this working.  CAN ANYONE WHO KNOWS UBUNTU OR HAS DONE THIS HELP ME???? Thanks! P.S.  ANY Advice would be helpful here!

Digg.com founder validates veracity of Instructables

There is a web show called Diggnation. (You can also download it through Tivo). The show is two guys sitting on a couch, with laptops, talking about highly rated articles on Digg.com. The guys are Kevin Rose: founder of Digg, and Alex Albrecht: Kevin's co-host on "Screensavers" which ran on the defunct TechTV Network. They are both funny guys, talk freely - usually with the help of a few beers - and just have a lot of fun talking about these strange, cool, or funny articles. Warning: It is a web show so if you go there, realize you may hear the f-word and some topics are risquè. On Episode 234: "Why Your Mom Should Not Watch Diggnation" one story was "Best Man Rigs Newlyweds’ Bed To Tweet During Sex". At one point they question the veracity of the man's claim saying they think he may have just wrote the tweets, and not actually rigged the bed to send tweets. This portion starts around 41:00 Kevin: (maybe it is) "just writing, unless he is ultra geeky. Who is going to devise a pressure plate with the power to send out ..." Alex: "He based it on an article. He said 'Before I go any further I should say 90% (of the tech is ripped from http://bit.ly/kvALJ) ...' " Alex clicks on link Kevin: "Oh it's an Instructables article. Done. I believe it. " Alex: "The Twittering Office Chair" It was cool that he immediately believed it was real after finding out the tech came from Instructables.

Available ONLINE: 09/27/08 Tesla: Totally Awesome! HISTORY HACKER show

THIS looks interesting ! By Helen A.S. PopkinMSNBCupdated 9:05 a.m. ET, Fri., Sept. 26, 2008Circuit-bending YouTube star Bre Pettis doesn't want you to know that before making his History Channel pilot, he hadn't seen The Prestige. It's not that he purposely failed to catch Chris Nolan's 2006 adaptation of the steam punk novel about rival magicians starring Batman (Christian Bale) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). It seems Pettis never got around to it. And by the time he started putting together History Hacker, premiering tonight at 8 p.m. and midnight, it was too late. ...At the turn of the century, electricity was magic, and really, it still is today, Pettis says."This (TV show) is for all the curious people out there who want to learn about the electricity that comes out of your wall. You can run a hair dryer from the electricity in your wall generated from a power plant far, far way. That blows my mind."...Here in the 21st century, Thomas Edison is the go-to guy when most people think of electricity. No wonder, given Edison's gift for self promotion and that he'd go so far as to electrocute kittens in public demonstrations meant to discredit Tesla's AC electricity in favor of his own DC current. (True story!)The LINK is HERE :-) To watch the entire show download from here.... be forewarned, it is REALLY long....
