The AWESOME Button

Matt Richardson over at Make made an awesome button from the Staples Easy Button. When pushed, the reprogrammed button randomly selects a synonym to the word 'awesome', perfect for thinking of new (awesome?) words to include in a description when writing. As an added bonus, Instructables' own Scoochmaroo is (sorta) referenced briefly @0:20 Check out the video and make one yourself: via: MakeMagazine YouTube Chanel

I know programming is not always that easy... but a "like" buttom would be nice so more people will have an opportunity to comment without saying anything.

9v to 3v "easy button" hack. Answered

Hello! Im working on a Staples Button Hack! but..... Problem that I have is that I feel like it is a Waste to scrap the original "that was easy" message. And the problem that comes along with this would be that I have to use a 9v battery to power the new circuit and the original button circuit uses a 3v battery. I'm not great with Ohms law but I do relize that I need a resistor but... i do not know if that will put in too much current into the original circuit?Would anyone know how I can calculate this? And does the amount of current even matter? -Thanks! Noobiefied

Inline mute button

I have been trying to find an inline ipod mute button. I would use it for snowboarding and other sports where quick and easy muting is necessary. should be small enough to fit in glove or attach to jacket etc. I am not very experienced with working with electronics, and would appreciate laymans terms.

Ever spend time with someone and can't remember how many times they say or do something that you HATE? How about making a small push button device that allows you to push the button each time you want to say "I hate/love/ whatever", along with a sound and a visible counter for number of times the button is pushed? Easy way to decide at the end of the day if you really like this person or not............ The components must be small enough to be able to carry the device in your hand for instant counting. Just a :) Any ideas on how to costruct this idea would be appreciated: P.S......I'm not much of an electrician or engineer so the simplest of plans is a neccesity. Thanks in advance Sam

trigger momentary switch/button via switch

What i try to accomplish is very simple. my Airconditioner has a Push button (momentary switch) to turn it off and on. but the Thermostat brings permanent power it it want the A/C to be on. i could make a simple delay setup for 1 sec. or so to trigger a relay but then i can't be sure its really on or of. how can i ensure its turned on via an timer relay safely if the control wire has power ? any recomentation on existing products or schematics ? i can check the "real status" via other parts on the airconditioner easy .. i just need a way to ensure ON and OFF based on the command line is High or Low ..  any ideas ?

Ok.... So I just pushed the power button to change the song on my Ipod Nano (6th Generation) to change the song (U2's Crumbs From Your Table).  It didn't work. The button is sort of limp and doesn't click anymore like the + and - buttons for the volume. I can't turn it off or change the song. Only turn the same song's volume up or down and listen. This is the worst part - I'm in Japan as an exchange student. Not only have I lost access to lots of Western culture (keeping me sane), but this fix also has to be super cheap and easy. I'd also rather not mess this Ipod up. PLEASE HELP!!!!  - basementhacker

Arduino 3 button light control

A friend asked me to build him a controller for a 12v Arrow board (roadwork sign) he got second hand (original controller is completely missing) So after asking him what he wanted it to do, it needs 4 modes: 1: Off (that is easy) 2: Point left 3: Point right 4: Hazard mode (top and bottom of the arrows alternating on and off, top left - bottom right on, then top right - bottom left on)  Once in a mode it will have to stay there until turned off I assume. (unless there is a way to go back and pick another state after a long period of time?) Three buttons should do the trick to pick a mode but here is where I reach a problem, I am sadly lacking in programing of a state machine? (if I understand what I need correctly that is) Sadly after watching videos and reading posts about them around the web I have become very confused on how to even get them to work or if they are what I need. The control electronics are relatively easy, there are 7 groups of leds (image I hope shows that) the plan is to drive them from one of those 8 relay boards from ebay. 7 positives (inputs) All ground to chassis Not asking for someone to code this for me I want to learn how (just asking to being pointed in the right direction or if I am going about this wrong) Button control has always confused me, I programed traffic lights for my model railroad with two modes but that was a simple if statement (if switch on this mode else other mode) but that sadly wont work here. My apologies if I am not asking this well (head still spinning from looking up state machines) - Bluesunelight / T W Sawyer

I REALLY wish there was a 'save for later' button

It would be really nice to have this feature near the other "favorite," "facebook," and "print," buttons, as since I rarely have the time to fully explore each instructable that looks appetizing to me to the full extent I'd like to when I'm sifting through my e-mails.  Something that I can use to bookmark it for later, perhaps with room for personal comments on my initial thoughts or why it looked interested in the first place?  This would have the advantage of giving people an easy way to return to the site, track their progress on various projects, etc.  I dunno.  Just a thought.

Coin sorter, how to get a coin to trigger a sensor (buttons)? Answered

Hey people! So I am making a project, it count's coins via arduino. So I need a way the coin can touch a button or some sort so it can trigger a the code in the arduino. See, the arduino has 4 buttons each one is a value to a coin, in the real world (physical project) there is a coin which falls from a sort o slot. It falls straight. The question here is, how to trigger a type of switch, button, tab with only the force of the coin. Any ideas for buttons or tabs or switches or metal contacts please, thank you. Some kind of easy input sensor (maybe light sensor?) It has to be cheap and it has to be small.

Easy Computer Mouse Modification / Repair

The first time I did this modification was about 10 years ago, and this is my second attempt. Both times it was done as a repair and not strictly as a modification. There are actually many advantages to a newly "rewired" mouse such as the mouse button being easier and more convenient to press.  (possibly an inexpensive and simple method to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome?) Anyway, the modification is located on one of my website pages: I've seen a lot of mouse modifications on the Internet and I doubt I was the first one to think of this. **************************************************************************** Edited to Add I finally uploaded a picture to this posting.

I need to rig a chest to play a recorded noise when opened.

Howdy folks. I have a bit of a conundrum. I know exactly what I want but I'm not so sure how to get the pieces together for it... or even what pieces I might need. The plan: Take a chest I have and install a speaker in it, attach it to a button and something recorded with the little ditty when you open a chest in Legend of Zelda. Do do do doooo! I have the chest and the sound. That was the easy part. The rest is getting the hardware I need and installing it. And my promise: if I get going on this, I'll post an instructable with the how-to. I searched and searched and didn't find one on here which kind of surprised me! But anyhoo. Um. Help?

How do I make a slap button light up box/podium for a quiz game?

I want to make an answering system for a quiz game that I am hosting. I want it to be a slap button that will light up the box under neath of the button so that I can see who hit their button first. The system doesn't have to be a lockout system I just want it to be as simple as possible, budget friendly, and easy to make because I am not very electrically inclined. Please help me out and let me know what other information I need to provide. I just want to make two that are not very difficult to build. Button, lights, and power supply connect is all I need.  ALSO, the button is just push connection or momentary connection button. ONly push to turn on the light and NOT push to turn the light back off. Thanks smart people!

I need help moving some buttons on a GameBoy Color. Answered

I have been working on a modification to a GameBoy Color.  I am basically putting it into another case that I have custom designed for the project.  I was just wondering, is it possible to break off a part of a circuit board and connect it with wires? I basically just want to move the "A" and "B" buttons 1/2 inch to the right to make them fit in the case better.  I think that will be easier than designing button extensions or something like that. I included an image to show the board and how the parts are labeled.  It is pretty easy to figure out what portion is what button (thanks Nintendo). An example of a similar idea can be seen here:  Ben Heck's Portable PS1 (It is a little past halfway down the page, where he shows how the inside was wired.  From what I can tell, he broke his PS1 controller into sections.)

How would I set up a trigger on one relay with multiple pushbutton inputs?

I'm looking to set up a 12 volt system that has approximately 12 buttons that will each trigger an individual relay and a shared relay.  So I will have 13 relays (numbered 1-13) and 12 buttons (1 -12) - Button 1 will trigger relay #1 and #13, Button 2 will trigger relay #2 and #13, etc.  Wiring up a single relay circuit is easy enough, and I think I can set it up with an arduino or similar IC, but I'm looking for a discrete circuit design.  Would a simple diode on each circuit leg be enough?  If not, what would I need?

K'nex Challenge for Wii Owners

Alright, I had a nice idea. I notice there are few Wii Zapper peripherals that are easy to use. Most are cheap pieces of plastic that cost much more than they need to and they still suck. There was one though that looked promising but still wasn't quite that comfortable. Here's the challenge. Make the easiest to use zapper body construction for a Wii remote and nunchuck. Some ideas are: Add a stock. Maybe some sort of stand you can rest the gun on to make aiming even easier? Add K'nex levers and buttons that press the Wii controller buttons. Make a trigger that presses the Z button and make a fake charging handle that presses the C button maybe? Tilt the remote sideways so it's easier to reach all the top buttons. Remember, comfort and ease of use. Those are important. It'd also be nice if it looked decent. Think any of you can handle it?
