embedded instructable - all links are missing, formatting a bit off

Having some problems when i use the "share" -> "embed" feature to put my instructable in my own website.  all hyperlinks in the instructable do not show up in the embedded version, that's the biggest trouble.  various rich-formatting stuff shows up a bit weird also. thanks, -dan-

Embedding things other than video

Hi, I'm looking for a way to embed things other than videos into my instructable. Specifically, I'd like to be able to embed some code that I will host on Google Code (or if anyone has a better suggestion, I'm open to it!). Is there a way to embed things other than video? Right now the embed video feature isn't even working, but I'm hoping that will be fixed by the time I'm ready to publish my instructable. Thanks!

Video Problem - Embed Video Button is MIA

So, I know instructables has gone through some changes lately, and it has been a couple months since I have embedded video from youtube into an instructable - have we lost the embed video button?  Are we back to using the "source" button?  and if we are, either its not working, or more likely I am forgetting to figure out how to do it properly.  HELP!!!

Embedding Videos Appears To Be Broken

I can't get videos to embed for this page: https://www.instructables.com/id/Super-Mario-Bros-Warp-Pipe-Sound-Effect-Toilet-To/step5/Demonstration/ I've embedded videos before and I've tried several different links and two formattings of the iframe tag without success. Simply copying and pasting the embed link from youtube doesn't work.

Embedding a Second Video in a Video Instructable?

I'm trying to embed a second video into my video instructable. I'm guessing that because it's a video instructable it is limited to the one main video and no other videos can be embedded? https://www.instructables.com/id/Optimus-Prime-Transformers-Costume/ You can see I've been trying, but I guess that's my question: is there any way to embed another video?

Embed Instructable videos on internet foruns

Hi there! Being a huge fan of instructables.com and also the administrator of internet forum about Mercedes-Benz trasnsformed vans, I would like to know if it is possible to have a way to post the videos available for blogs and sites also on foruns. I tried it with BBcode but being not very used to programing gave no luck. I've checked with the support team of the forum and they mentioned "BBCode/HTML replacement" that is not available, If it would be, embeding would be easy... What do you have to say about this? Thanks in advance! :) Regards

Idea to improve

I got a idea to improve ibles.... I always liked that you can ambed ibles by adding ?embed=flash at the end of the url, but what I don't like about the flash player is that you can't change the size (I also tried by modifying the HTML). It would be awesome if you guys could make that.

embedding video

I am trying to get some video embedded in my instructable, yet nothing shows up. I have followed the same process of uploading and using the embed code per several of my other instructables, yet now it seems like it's just stopped working. my process: Upload video to youtube, wait for youtube to do its thing, copy embed code and paste into 'embed video' in the rich editor. While editing it shows the placeholder for the video, and the source code shows the right html for the video. When I preview the placeholder is gone and the text flash animation is displayed where video should be. Youtube setting is 'unlisted', which enables embedding. My other videos have the same settings and have worked in previous instructables. Windows 7 FF 3.6.10 help!

"Unsupported video host" sigh...

So, I've been trying to upload my video instructable for a good half hour now. I've checked other youtube topics and I have tried using the new AND the old embed code. Neither work. Whenever I go to save the site just completely stops working and I get the "null" url. I then have to go back to the main instructables site manually where a "unsupported video host" sign pops up.  Any ideas? Help would be much appreciated.

Embeding videos ??? What am I doing wrong here.

Ok I'm trying to put this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJfsst5xnOE on the last step of this instructable https://www.instructables.com/id/Wind-Turbine-1/?ALLSTEPS So I got this code And put it in the window that opens when you click on the little film strip button . Then when I go back to the text ,  there is a nice little box with the word "FLASH" blinking in the middle ,  This leads me to believe I'm doing it right.  Then when I save and publish there is just a big blank where the box was before I saved. What am I doing incorrectly ?

How to Embed Youtube Video

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I have embedded videos before but I posted a few new Instructables today and can't seem to get Youtube videos to embed. I tried the techniques on this page. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-embed-a-video-into-Instructables/?&sort=NEWEST&limit=40 I also tried clicking the embed video icon and pasting the Youtube embed code into the box. It shows a flash box but when previewed (and published) there is no embedded video. For example, this step should have a video embedded. https://www.instructables.com/id/PWM-Fan-Controller/step2/PWM-Fan-Controller-LM35-Sensor-Overview/ I am sure I am missing something simple, I am just not sure what it is...

If you want to share a 3D view of your SketchUp model, you can now use embed code to place it into a webpage. First the model needs to be in the SketchUp 3D Warehouse, but once it's there you scroll to the bottom and select Include > 3D View to get the code. Here's one of Saint Basil's Cathedral.

Embedding videos in Step by Step Instructable.

Less than a month ago, I wrote my first instructable, and was able to embed a 10 sec. youtube video into my instructable. Since then, I have not been able to embed such videos because the embed button is no longer there.    The instructions for step-by-step tell you how to do it, but the embed button is not there.  Where did it go and when can I expect it back?  I think these little video's add something to my Instructable and I miss them.

It would be really awesome if I could embed my Howcast videos on Instructables, but I don't see the option in the embed code list when I'm posting a video. Embed SWF

A few years ago I did a project that was in the Instructables format. The only thing is that it's a SWF file and I wanted to embed it into my instructable. I've added it to my file library but it will only show up as an attachment. I know I can upload as a slideshow or video, but the project has it's own navigation. The link to the actual content I'd like to put up is here. The only question I really have is if I can embed this swf directly to page 1 of the instructable so that the navigation is intact and still functional. Thanks for any help!

how can I embed images in an instructable ?

I have read a thread detailing image embedding using https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Embed-Photos-in-an-Instructable/ However, I can't make this work : I upload the images. I embed them using the img html tag. The image is correctly shown in the edition window. When I press "preview", the images are no longer shown. I have tried different sizes and formats, some have briefly worked (= were shown in the preview window), but all ended up disappearing at one point or another.

Making proper instructables seems to be impossibel :(

I am trying to re-work an Instructable so it looks nicer and is easier to follow. This includes getting some videos inside the text, something that can be done in this editor with the click of a button. So far I tried the various buttons available and even HTML but either the video is just added to the top or in case of html is disappears. Is there any good reason why you are making life so complicated for members? Even a search with Google is fruitless as all results found refer to methods that are outdated and not working. Do I have to activate a proper editor somewhere in the settings, is there a hidden button?? And why the hell are there so many buttons to embed something that only shows up on the top ? In any editor I know I click on embed and it appears at the current cursor position, so why not on this website? It would also really help to remove all those old junk instructables showing how to get a video inside the ible and to replace them with something that works. I have spent now over an hour trying posted methods of getting a video inside my text that simply don't work :(

Vimeo inclusion quirks

It seems Vimeo and Instructables are not the best of friends just yet. I hope they are working on these issues so that including our Vimeo hosted videos is a less frustrating experience in the future. Only If you use the new editor you can embed video with the Vimeo URL, or even simply posting the link in the body will place your video. Save right away. But then... anytime you open your Instructable to edit it moving forward, Instructables removes the video and saves the Instructable (Awesome). You'll have to add it back in again and save for it to reappear. Youtube quality is always improving, but the ad-free playback and greater controls makes Vimeo a winner in my book. I hope Instructables figures out how to get it's editor to play nicer with Vimeo videos sooner than later. Mac 10.9.1 , Chrome Version 27.0.1453.93

How to embed interactive pictures into an Instructable?

Recently, I've been wondering if it would be possible to embed an interactive, 360 degree image into an instructable. If your not sure what Im talking about, Here is a webpage with a 360 degree image embeded into it: http://www.webrotate360.com/ Notice that you can rotate the picture of the shoe with your mouse. So my question is, would this be possible in instructables? Is there a way to embed an image like this by maybe using the html editor in instructables? If not, I think it would be a pretty cool idea.

Instructables server doesn't recognize YouTube's new "iframe" embed codes

Earlier today, a user reported that they couldn't embed videos in their Instructable. They get "unsupported video host" errors. With a great clue from M4industries, I'd like to report this as a new bug (okay, a needed new feature). YouTube has changed the XML they generate for embedding. The default now uses an "iframe" container, rather than an XML "object" container with nested "param" tags. Instructables' backend scripts don't recognize "iframe" as valid, and report back "Unsupported video host," rejecting the embed request. For the moment, users need to manually select "Use old embed codes." on YouTube's interface. Hopefully Instructables can add the necessary conditional to their scripts to support this new markup.

video instructable won't work?

I'm trying to make a video instructable. I've uploaded the video to youtube and have tried copy and pasting the embed code in both the 'embed code here' box and using the in text embed video too. I've tried using the iFrame code now supplied by YouTube and altered it to the old YouTube code. However neither work. You put in the code, click save and an 'updating' bar appears then dissapears and the embed code is gone and no video is there? Can somebody please help with this, been trying to make it work for over an hour and have tried every way I can think, I need to upload it via YouTube rather than any of the other services available Thanks

Problem Embedding Vimeo Video, and a workaround

In the Intro section of my first Instructable I have a Vimeo video embedded in it.  I found that I could not get the video embedded with the normal editor.  When I would go through the normal embedding process, the editor would show nothing where I embedded the video, both in the editor and in preview.  I tried both giving it the full embed code (with tags) and just giving it the video URL. The workaround is to use the new editor.  In the new editor, I can embed the video, and the video shows up after I save.  But if I click on the Edit button to enter the normal editor, the video is gone again. Here are the 5 pieces of data you ask people to include in a bug report: 1. I'm running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a machine with an i7 processor and 8GB of RAM. 2. I'm using the Chrome browser, version 30.0.1599.101 m 3. The project I originally ran into this on is Old-School Arduino MIDI Sequencer, but I've created a simpler one to demonstrate the bug, called Bug #1. 4. Sorry, I didn't get screen shots 5. Steps to replicate: a) Create a Step-By-Step Instructable b) After giving it a title and a line of text, click on the filmstrip icon to embed a video c) In the box that comes up, insert the following embed code: The editor will show an iframe box.  (I've tried several variations on the iframe embed code, and none of them worked for me, even the simplest one with just the source URL.) d) Click the Save Now button.  The iframe box is now gone. e) Add some photos (so it will allow you to publish), and publish the Instructable.  The video does not appear in it. f)  Click Edit, and you will see the video is gone. g) Click Try The New Editor! and click on the Intro step. h) Click on +Embed i) In the dialog box that comes up enter: http://vimeo.com/78492158 Click on Preview, and then Embed.  An iframe box will show in the editor. j) Click on Save, and then view the Instructable.  It will include the video, which works with no problems. k) Click Edit.  The standard editor does not show the iframe box.  Click Save Now. l) View the Instructable.  The video is gone.

Problem with adding video -- popup box gets stuck

While reading another user's bug report about video embedding, I tried to do one of my own to see if I could reproduce a problem. Instead, I've found one of my own. On FF 3.6.13, MacOS 10.5.8, when I try to include video through the rich editor, the popup box seems to "hang" indefinitely (see attached).  This happens with Instructables and if I try to embed a video in a forum topic (like this one :-). I have a video on YouTube. I capture the embed code (which is a different format than before, no longer XML) and paste it in. I click OK. And it just sits there. No spinning wheel, no nothing, it just doesn't do anything. The OK button does turn yellow when I click it, but the process never completes. The other buttons work, so it's not like the whole thing is hosed. UPDATED: The problem is generically with the embed-video popup interface, not with video I'bles. Thanks to M4industries for helping me isolate the issue.

Links in comment replies not working?

New embedded links in comments or replies do not take you to the link when you click on them. Nothing happens when you click on the orange text. I think this probably affects new comments/replies since the last site update.  You can create the link in the editor, it turns blue and then when you preview the comment it is the familiar orange text.  Links in older comments seem to work. Using Chrome/Windows XP and I guess we can no longer embed videos in comments...I see what you did there.

https://www.instructables.com/edit/null Cannot add new video instructables

This has been mentioned in a couple of spots, but I still cannot add new video instructables.  When I paste in the embedded code for the youtube video and update the page, it goes to "https://www.instructables.com/edit/null" page.  I have tried:    - with the new and old style embedded code.   - on Windows 7-64 bit with IE, firefox, & chrome   - on Windows XP-32 bit with IE I cannot edit any of my existing or pending instructables since the video embedding area is graying out my screen and it just says "updating".  (my 3 pending ones are failed attempts at uploading which are now stuck and I can't delete them!!!)  I don't know when the problem started since the last instructable I posted was on 9/19.  (which I can't edit now)
