What happens if you enable another promo code

Right now I have a 3 month pro membership, but I got another 1 year pro membership for being a finalist in the epilog contest. What happens if I enable the 1 year membership. Will it just add on, or will is "erase" the 3 months, and just be a year? I am pretty sure that it will just tack on, but I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't a bug. Thanks in Advance! Wifi enabled remote

Hi, I have a remote for my fireplace. It uses a RF of 303.87 mhz. I was trying to think of a way to build something that could recieve a message over wifi that would then trigger the 'buttons' on the remote. I found some RF receiver/transmitters but everything is for 315 or 430 mhz. Will those work for 303.87? Or was this remote designed to not be easily cloned?

RSS feeds for your favorites.

I think it would be a good idea to enable RSS feeds for your favorites. This way, I can add them to my google reader and posterous much easier and faster. There are other uses as well, but thats the one I can think of off hand. It would enable more people to see good instructables, and promote sharing even more than before!

Bluetooth finger print reader

I need a design (better yet an operating) hand held, battery operated bluetooth enabled finger print reader. That is, the bluetooth enabled finger print reader would store one finger print and then compare the person usign the reader to the print stored. If the prints matched it woudl send out an approval code. I am sure someone out there could make one. How can I contact that person?

reclying old wacom enabled laptop ?

Hey guys , firstly let me introduce myself my name is virgil and im student on a budget :P and new to these forums My dilema : i have ahad a hp tx2500 since 2008 , to be honest im surprised its lasted this long , anyways its a netbook/convertable that has a screen that folds down onto the keyboard , it is touch and wacom active digitiser enabled and recently the gpu on it has failed just like 90% of these models do , so my question is simple can i use the wacom digitiser unit from behind the screen and put it into another laptop/convertable screen) unfortuneatly i dont have 100's of euro to spend buying another wacom enabled laptop or tablet as now theyre around 600 euro at minimum , i can however afford to buy a cheap 12.1inch laptop (note the wacom digitiser module im trying to recycle is made for a 12.1 inch screen) i have seen the digitiser panel for myself and it very very thin ,so is there any way to integrate it into another device ? or maybe even somehow connect a usb to the panel and attach it to a laptop that way ? if so any recommendations as to how to do this or what laptop i could modify ? any help at all would be greatly appreciated thanks

Make a Bluetooth USB Dongle out of a bluetooth enabled Cell Phone?

Is this possible, for my to hack a bluetooth phone and use it as a USB dongle for my laptop? If so, someone should make an instructable out of it and it will get a butt load of views.

Wi-fi enabled window shutters

I want to automate (4) sets of window shutters (called Plantation shutters.). I have the mechanical parts worked out which I plan to power with a servo motor on each. Can someone help me work this out? I am somewhat handicapped now and have difficulty getting around from room to room. There are a total of (22) actual shutters, but I will have the shutters on each window linked together with a rod powered by a positioning servo...four windows...four servos. The operation can be simultaneous. I do not need to operate them separately. Thank you for any help you can give.

Groups suggestion

Have y'all considered more prominent use of the groups and member profiles, and more specifically, developing a function to enable/encourage users to form local DIY groups on their own? it could be as simple as letting people know which members are in their zipcode and including an event utility. Sorry if this already exists, I haven't noticed it.

Unable to filter searches

When I try to search the instructables website I'm not able to alter the scope of the search. My searches return comment, forum posts, etc rather than just instructables. The search type combo box reverts to "All" and doesn't work. If I use the whole site search (top-right corner of the page) it does limit the search to instructable articles, but if I use the navigation links (Next, page 1, etc), the search again reverts. I was also unable to search the forums to see if this had been reported by others. Strange interaction with LastPass.

If I have "LastPass" - the password manager- enabled on FireFox, every single time the browser hits a page with a login, like the comments pages, or the forum, LastPass dims the screen and tells me it is logging in to the site. Any idea of what is going on ? Whose "fault" is it ? does LastPass not do some sort of handshake with you correctly or vice versa ? Applies to FF on Android too. Steve

Hey, could someone please make an instrucable which enables your average person to make a tripod which can fit in ones pocket but expand to full standard tripod height when pulled out? PIC18LF4680 microcontroller and usb ttl for usart / serial data

Hi everyone. I want to know if it's possible to connect a ttl device directly to my PIC18LF4680 for serial communication via USART . I can connect the ttl device directly to my Arduino Uno without issues. The ttl device has 6 pins (dtr , rxd , txd , vcc(3.3v or 5v) , cts, gnd) . I have two different codes snippets below that perform USART communication. * Version one(I) utilizes the "usart.h" peripheral library. * Version two(II) uses "TXREG" and "RCREG" for sending and receiving data. Both versions run well in my virtual environment (Proteus 8 Professional), but not in the real world environment. Am I missing a step? Do I need a special library? Or is it not possible with this chip? How to Take Down a Traverse Decorative Rod

Hello Friends, Decorative traverse rods are one way to accentuate your windows with drapery. Traverse rods enable you to open and close the drapes with a pull cord. Sometimes one or more of the rings breaks requiring replacement. Unfortunately replacing rings requires removing the traverse rod from the window. Taking down a traverse decorative rod enables you to separate the rod and remove the faulty rings. Unlike standard rods, the traverse rod fits inside a channel clip across the top of the mounting brackets. Unhook the drapes from the traverse rod master carrier. The drapes hang on metal hooks that lift out of holes in the traverse rod. Hold one end of the traverse rod with one hand and turn the decorative end cap counterclockwise with your free hand. Remove the end caps on both ends in this manner. Find the screw on the retaining clips securing the rod to the mounting clips. There is a mounting clip on each end and one in the center. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Grasp the center of the rod and lift straight up to remove it from the brackets. Pull the rod away from the wall. Thanks and Regards, Baron Davis

Social Media Suggestion

I would love a button that would enable you to easily share a contest win on social media. Yes, I can type one up and post it, but share buttons are so nice in the way that they compose a simple message for you and provide an image. It would be another opportunity for Instructables to use social media to advertise contests and sponsors. The message could be something like "I just won some great prizes from ____ in the ____ contest on Instructables." It would also be an opportunity for us to thank and share some victory with our friends that support us.

Developing a microcontroller with a LCD that can handle flash swf's

I have been getting into micro-controllers little by little... I also am going to school for internet design and I know flash cs3 and actionscript 3.0 ... I was wondering if there was a way to hook up a microcontroller with an LCD and some type of memory that wound enable it to run flash 9...or basically be able to run .swf files that I can load into it? preferably a touchscreen setup would make the design simpler, however im not sure how to tell flash to accept touchscreen functions...so that may not work

Some other login problem posts mentioned cookies not being enabled, however Instructables doesn't seem to be trying to set any cookies. I set FireFox to auto accept all cookies, but when I check the cookie log, there are none from Instructables. Other websites work fine. I checked this computer and Instructables is setting cookies. I also tried IE7 and same problem. Anyone have any idea what's happening?

Idea for Social Electronic Art

Hi everyone, I have been working on an idea for a new type of electronic creative art form. Social media has increasingly become cloud and computer-based, enabling people to network and share ideas and concepts online with others from around the world; this community is an excellent example of the power of electronics in fostering shared creativity. Art has always been an important aspect of society, bringing people together through the power of self-expression. In recent years, graffiti parks have become a popular method for communities to express themselves in a constructive way. In the area of electronics, circuitry and robotics have become increasingly accessible through open-source programs such as Arduino, enabling anyone to build complex and beautiful projects in their own garages (or anywhere!). This idea focuses on blending the social aspect of conventional art mediums with the untapped potential of electronic technology. One new technology in particular that has taken the first step towards merging the different fields of creativity is conductive ink and paint, created by Bare Conductive. This graphene-based material enables users to paint circuits and electrical systems onto most surfaces, opening up the entire world as a building area. Essentially, this is the focus of the idea- creative communities making the world their canvas through the power of conductive ink and open-source electronics tools. Imagine the possibilites! Walls covered with lights that can be activated by touching a drawn image, buildings covered with playable arcade games and interactive media, and childrens' parks with community-sourced learning tools on the play area! Of course, there's another aspect here; the social possibilities. See a circuit that someone didn't ever finish, or a piece of electronic art that you wanted to expand? Whip out your Arduino kit and ink bottle, and draw it in! Every wall would tell a story, and it would never stop growing. Our imaginations would be the only limit... What does everyone think of this idea? Let me know any thoughts or input you might have!

Motor triggered by a vibration sensor

Hi, my project consists of a vibration sensor that, when enabled, will trigger a motor which will function for a certain amount of time, then stop, and stay in this position as long as the sensor is detecting vibrations. When the vibrations stop, I need the motor to reverse polarity and function in the opposite direction, for the same amount of time as before then stop, and repeat... I'm a first year electrical engineer so please consider me a rookie in this field. If someone could provide me with a suitable electrical circuit, with names and values for the part, i think i might be able to draw the corresponding board. Thanks

Arduino codes

Good evening Sir, Madam, I am currently attempting to build a circuit for a college module that would use vibration data from a dc motor then send it to a microprocessor before transferring the data via Bluetooth to a pc. I have trawled through numerous sites for the correct components to use but. My question is this. Is there a Arduino code that would enable this idea to be successful? Having never written a code I am somewhat stumped and stressed out to the max. I would be grateful of any help or advice you can offer, Thank you in advance for your time over this, Best regards Mark sheldon

The tablet is bluetooth enabled. The display is using a dvi / vga to usb adapter. Everything is working. What i need to figure out is how to stream my low res display from usb to bluetooth over to my computer's bluetooth. Any ideas?

Is it possible to start a friendly competition or contest on an "easy to build offroad-wheelchair"?

Hello friends, I am totally new here, but I have a question, whether it is possible to ask people here in this community to think and try and build an easy to build and easy to use "offroad-wheelchair" which should enable disabled or challenged people to new challenges. for example to go into the woods or mountain. Here - in this community - is so much brainpower and ideas and idealism gathered, therefore a lot of good ideas could come out and finally help a lot of people. What do you think of this idea? Let me know All the best to you Steve
