I was wondering if I could mount batteries on top of a glue gun. I cut the wire of the cord and i had two minicords and i ran those out of a hole i made in the top of the gluegun. any ideas on what batteries, a switch on/off method? and also how to connect the wires to the batteries would be extremely appreciated.

iTunes controller?

I'm not sure if I was searching for the right key words, but I was planning on building a desk with all of my computer components built into it, save the monitor keyboard and mouse, and I wanted to make like a little controller for iTunes that controlls random, repeat, next song, previous song, pause, and play. Like, would it be possible to take apart a spare remote control and use the circuitry and buttons from that to do it? Is it even possible? Also, this will be on a Windows 7 PC

I was thinking of buying an external Camera for a laptop even though it already has an built in cam. I would like to use the external so that I can point it toward a table surface and use it for animation purposes.  I was wondering, would  the external interfere with the other? Candles with external power supply

Hello everybody, hope somebody will be able to help me out or point to a right direction. I have about 40 battery candles that I have to change batteries every month. I was wondering what could I do to convert them to candles with power supply connected to a regular outlet so there wouldn't be a need for batteries. I know there are special candles with external power supplies but the ones I found are in thousands of dollar. These candles go inside large candles made from wax that is a reason why I need long wires. I have attached pictures of the candles. What I would like to do is to connect them with long wires to one or multiply power supplies connected to regular electrical power outlet. One candle holds 4 AA batteries. Could someone recommend what power supply and parts I should get to make this happen? Thanks.

Internal USB converter? Please help!

Hi. I just ordered this, http://www.amazon.co.uk/IB-864-Front-Panel-Reader-Multiport/dp/B004FLEFVU/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid;=1366146730&sr;=8-13&keywords;=icy+box , to connect to a psu I have running on it's own, and with the hope of connecting it to the USB port of my laptop and using it as a USB/Card reader extension kind of thing. Now, rather foolishly I didn't think about how I would connect it to my laptop. I know for sure I can connect it to the PSU with the Molex connector, but how could I connect it to my laptop? This is the connection info it has: USB 3.0 - EXTERNAL to the mainboard or USB 3.0 PCI-X extension card via USB 3.0 cable USB 2.0 hub and card reader: INTERNAL to the mainboard via USB 2.0 cable eSATA: INTERNAL to the mainboard via sata cable Audio: Internal to the mainboard via Audio cable Power: Internal to the system power supply via Big-4Pin Molex Sorry if I'm being stupid, but what concerns me is how it says internal and external, I dont really know what it means, like, is an internal USB 2.0 cable different to an external one, and how could i connect it to a standard USB port? Sorry for the long winded probably really confusing post, basically I just want to know how I can connect this to my laptop's USB port to be able to connect USB devices and use USB sticks and read memory cards lol Really sorry for the bad post, but thanks a lottttt to anyone who can help!!

I want to add an external speaker jack to a Dorchester Music Maker (record player)

I bought this sweet looking record player which also has a cassette player at Value World, Indy's largest thrift store. both tape and record player work just fine. It has a small speaker in the front which doesn't sound very loud. I'd like to add a jack where I can plug an external speaker to it. Is this possible to do? I opened the player and it has about a 4 inch speaker with only a red and black wire going to the pc board. I don't know how to solder and was hoping this is something I can do easily. I don't mind learning how to solder or if there are alternatives that's even better! I've been searching all over the world for someone who has done this before but nobody.. I've seen other similar things being done and I'm concerned if I should somehow wire a preamp or some precautions I should take when adding an external speaker. By the way, the speaker I'm using is a Bose Sound Link speaker. I would appreciate some help here. I'm such a nub.

External RAM

I was thinking today about possible ways to make my pc better without adding internals. (I like external plug and play stuff). So anyway, I was thinking about my RAM and how to make it better. Then it hit me. What if I had external RAM? Possibly using 2 or more USB ports. Any Ideas? This would allow me to run large programs on any PC! Please collaborate.

Using external battery VIA existing Laptop battery pack

Hi, I'm one of these people that haven't thoroughly searched these forums for solutions before posting. So - sorry for that in advance! However I have thoroughly searched in the past, but hadn't found what I was looking for, so that's something :-P . If anyone would have the good grace to direct me in the right direction i'd appreciate it :) . I've seen a bunch of 'replace the batteries in your Laptop battery pack' guides, yet i'd like to avoid doing this, and simply use an existing multi-voltage (9, 12, 19v) battery pack I already have - because it's like 16,000mah, and I already take it with me for many other gadgetries already.  I was thinking I could take apart battery pack, take out dead cells if possible (or leave in if need be), and wire in an input socket to laptop battery pack so I can plug the external batt directly into the internal battery pack. My WISHFUL thinking is that the charge current going into the battery pack - when normally plugged in and charging would be close enough to what it could get from the external battery pack so I could plug straight into the battery (but could add a voltage regulator from external batt if need be), and the laptop would run as if on battery alone (10.8v 5200mah, 56wh), just for much longer. So i'd be tricking laptop into thinking it's running from the battery, with the current coming from the external battery pack, as opposed to running at 19v 6.32am, as many external power supplies do. Laptop: Asus n53sv, Power brick: 19v, 6.32a Any ideas? Cheers, Morgan

Make an external HDD work with Xbox 360?

I, like many people, got the new Xbox for Christmas. However, my mom failed to notice that it was the 4GB model, rather than the awesome 250GB. When I realized this, I immediately went online and looked for a 250GB Xbox S Hard Drive, and found that they're $130($0.52/GB)! Well I knew that the Xbox can use flashdrives for storage, etc. so it should treat an external hard drive just like a big flashdrive, right? So I went to BestBuy and bought a 500GB external hard drive for $60 ($0.12/GB- 4.3x cheaper!). Upon plugging this into my Xbox, and going through the configuration process, I see that my Xbox is only picking it up as 16GB. "Are you kidding me? There's a lot more than 16GB on that thing!" I went online, and did some Googling, and YouTubing. All I could find was formatting the drive, and even then only being able to transfer movies, music, etc from you computer. I read multiple times that you couldn't put games or profiles on it(I wanted to do this, so I could transfer everything from my old original Xbox 360 HDD, and then sell it). Could somebody please tell me a way to make an external hard drive work with Xbox 360? I'd rather not format anything, but I will if I must. Thank you!

iMac G5 external monitor

Hi there! I'm currently working on a project, and I really need some help from you guys. What I'm basically trying to do is putting a Raspberry Pi with Retropie installed into a iMac G5 case (24'') and use it as a Retro-Gaming-Machine. Things I already have: - iMac G5 24inch - Raspberry Pi Model B+ with RetroPie installed - 2 SNES Controller with an Adapter to USB - Cables and stuff And now to my problem: I want to use the iMac's LCD panel (Product number: LM240WU2), which of course requires an inverter as well as a controller board. The inverter is stuck to the panel, and can be used I think. But the controller board seems to be integrated into the Logic Board, so I can't use it. I already found a suiting controller on AliExpress, but unfortunately it's not available. So I'm kind of running out of options where to get one. Does anybody know where to get a working controller? It shouldn't be too expensive, because otherwise I could just buy a 17'' or 20'' iMac G5 and use it, because these are built a bit differently and work just over DVI. I would love to make a Instructable out of the project, in case I'm able to solve that Problem! Thanks, Nick

Hard drive enclosure to turn internal into external?

Hello all, I have what may be a dumb question - so hopefully it will be an easy one to answer! I have a couple old hard drives from old computers that I want to put into a case/enclosure to repurpose into an extra external hard drive. When I take exact measurements of the hard drives they are: 4" x 5 3/4' x 1 (W x L x D). I've been looking around for enclosure kits but I don't see any that are 4" in width. I see a lot of 3.5" and not many others besides smaller 2.5" casings. So my possibly stupid question is: Do I want the 3.5" enclosure for my hard drive? I know that sometimes the sizings can be off when it comes to stuff like this. Thanks for the help, RW

Need advice for adding aux-in/line-in to Philips AE2160/00-A AM/MW/LW portable radio

Hey there, this is my first post! :) I'm from Germany, so please excuse my grammar! :D The reason why I'm opening up this new topic is, I didn't find any instructable or guide on how to add an aux-in/line-in to my simple mono AM/MW/LW radio Philips AE2160/00-A. There's not much to find out about the technical specifications besides the standard product information: Tuner • Analogue tuning • Wave ranges FM 87.5 - 108 MHz MW 525 - 1606.5 kHz /04 LW 150 -255 kHz /00c FM/MW /04 FM/MW/LW /05 FM/MW/LW • Ferroceptor for MW (and LW) • Telescopic aerial for FM (and SW) Amplifier • Max. output power 300 mW RMS • Tone control Music /News Sound system • Loud speaker 100 mm • Metal grill Power supply • External supply /00c, /04 230V /05 240V AC • Batteries 2 x 1.5V , type R20/D cell/UM1 Connections • Headphone socket 3.5mm General • Material Polystyrene, metal grill • Weight (g) 520 • Dimensions (mm) 210 W x 150H Here's a link to a photo of the device: http://images.philips.com/is/image/PhilipsConsumer/AE2160_00-_FP-global-001?wid=2000&hei;=2000&$jpglarge$ I didn't even find schematics/circuit diagrams for this or a similar device. There are lots of tutorials on how to add such an input to a car radio or a boombox/stereo cassette player a.s.o., but not for a simple AM/MW/LW radio. My questions are: 1.) Are there any similar hack projects here in the step-by-step or forum section? 2.) How do I find the right connector or place to solder a 2-way-switch between the sections (tuner, amp, speaker)? After the hacking job, it should be possible to switch between normal radio listening mode and aux-in/line-in mode from an external mp3 player, notebook, a.s.o.. 3.) Is there anything else to know for this project? Yesterday I've opened up the case for the first time and looked over the circuit board and the connections. I had no cam to take pictures, but I try to take some mobile phone cam pictures of the circuitry and parts at the next opportunity! Cheers, arok1

External Hard Drive enclosure for eSATAp connection

Hey, I want to buy a Power over eSATA kit (aka eSATAp) to use with 3.5inch internal hard drives (which are cheaper and faster than laptop 2,5inch drives). I'll be using it on desktop computers on and off, so the higher power consumption of desktop drives is not the issue. Thing is, I want to enclose the internal 3.5inch hard disk in something, for transport. Some case that leaves room for the cable connection (see GIF). Does anyone know if I can adapt existing SATA hard disk enclosures? Or if there is some boxy-thingy out there that I can best adapt to suit my purpose? I was looking for an instructable on this but couldn't find any. Thanks!

Reusing an old hard drive

I was recently disecting an old laptop (HP, roughly 6-8 years old) trying to find a use for the parts, as i have had very many replacements since I had stopped using that one. I removed a 10GB IBM hard drive. From the picture, you can see that it has a total of 44 pins. I am not sure if each pin goes to the same destination as the one opposite to it. i was wondering if there was any way that I could convert this into an external drive that I could attach via USB or something similar. If you have any ideas, let me know. Id love to find a use for this instead of just throwing it away.

HELP...External Micrphone on a MP3 player with Internal Micrphone question ???

I like to use the internal microphone on my MP3 player to record interviews, but lately I found the quality is degraded by noise generated by the spinning hard drive. Is it possible to move the internal microphone out of the player? Replacing that mic. with a better quality one? How do I find a matching microphone with better quality? What to look for? match the impedance? If so, what kind of circuitry I need to make the external mic. look the same to the MP3 players circuitry...external power supply , ect, ect...?

Cheap External Mix Snow Machine

*EDIT* IT WORKS!!! Hi everyone, this is a simple DIY snow machine. It utilizes external mixing which not only increases the production but also eliminates the risk of water backing down the air line and vise versa. I will not be making an instructable but possibly a video displaying its qualities. It only needs an air compressor with the standard quick connect end and a regular garden hose. It works and I may be selling a few on ebay for ~$75 each and will include a professional looking instruction manual. This produces a very large mist and i have yet to measure its snow making capabilities. I expect it to make about 2" per hour over a 200 square foot area. Please comment and rate!!

Will a hard drive with multiple partitions work in an external case?

As the title says, will a SATA hard drive formatted in NTFS with multiple partitions work in an external hard drive case? I'm upgrading to a new hard drive, and I'm thinking of putting the old one in an external case so I can get my data back quickly. however, compaq has gave it a recovery partition, so i can reset it to factory specifications. will this stop the USB hard drive case from recognizing it? Also, it's formatted as a NTFS file system, will this mess it up also? I don't think so, as FAT32 only goes to 127 GB and you can buy bigger external hard drives, but I'm not an expert so I can't tell for sure. Thanks in advance, -BD

USB drive virus, scan through, restart with external harddrive in

Hey! So last night I started scanning through my computers, scanned the whole computer with MSE, MBAM, PANDA ONLINE and superantispyware and it was clean. Then I plugged in my external harddrive to scan, I scanned that one with MSE and then with superantispuyware and then MBAM. It didn't find anything. Then I scanned the whole computer AND the external harddrive. First with MSE, it came up clean. Then with superantispyware, it was also clean, but it found som tracking cookies on the pc, and I had to restart the pc. But heres the problem, I forgot to take the external harddrive out of the pc while restarting... Can this (if there is a virus) have made it boot into the computer, so AV's can't find it anymore? (I had autoplay turned off through "control panel" - "hardware and sound" and "autoplay") Lets say that there is a virus and it did do this, will reinstalling and formatting get rid of it anyways? Is this tool to be trusted? Does it work? : http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/remove-autorun-inf-virus-with-autorun-eater/ please say if you know of any better ways to detect this. *More backround info in my last topic here (including list of viruses that could have something to do with it. https://www.instructables.com/community/USB-drive-virus-Do-I-have-it-What-should-I-do/

Old tablet PC into wacom like external

So I have a old, half broken Acer tablet PC. (C314xmi, to be specific)My new asus laptop gets here in a few days, and I know I'm going to miss the tablet functionality. I was looking at WACOM external tablets, and saw they made ones that are LCD screens. But they're like $1000, for something pretty small compared to my 15" tablet. So I was wondering, can I take the screen off my tablet and turn it into an external monitor that I can also use as a tablet? So I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone doing this, done it themselves, or has any other info that might help me with my new summer project. And since you can find old tablets on ebay for like 300-400, this would be a cheap alternative to Wacom setups. Thanks!

Building and external laptop power supply?

I have an old Dull (not a typo) Latitude XPi that I would like to use as a field journal.Problem/s:The 14.4 battery is dead.Refurbished and used batteries cost $80.00 usd and up with zero guarantees.I fear trying to replace the cells because opening the battery is not straight forward plus the electronics inside my be frelled any way.My solution is do do what I have done in the past and make an external supply.battery X n = desired voltage. In this case 18.5v is what I need to power it from the external supply input and the numbers don't add up.Now I am brain dead when it comes to basic electronics so my question is how do I resist 21v to the required voltage?Or better yet 24v to 18.5v so I could use alkaline or rechargeable batteries.
