Is this fair? Answered

I had bought a pair of trainers the other day, not realising that  they were two different trainers. When I went back to the shop only wearing the trainers for a day, they said that I couldn't get a full refund because they were 'worn out'. Is this really fair, the store was sports direct and the trainers were £20. The member of staff even said that it was alright to wear two different trainers! That was just to be cheap.... Is this really fair? I have lodged a complaint so hopefully I should get some satisfactory conclusion.

Instructables at the Maker Faire!

Here you go! We spent two days talking to hundreds, maybe thousands of people about the site. We were amazed at how many people had heard of us, and used it regularly, but never quite got round to joining. We were proud of the number of other Makers who were members of Instructables. We were pleasantly surprised by people presenting crafts they had learned from instructables, and were telling others about the site. We met the very nice people from Sugru.  We met the slightly manic folk from various Hackerspaces.  We met the dedicated folk from SciCast.  There were people knitting neurons, soldering badges, hacking the Kinect, battling robots, playing tennis on bicycles, controlling fire with sound, playing music with Tesla coils, building an electric Mini, chasing small children with wheelie bins, performing the thermite reaction in their bare hands, building a temporary home from "Sold" signs. Hannah wrote an Instructable. There were automata, robots, ancient computers, amazing materials, musicians, artists, crafters, and hackers. There was a giant cardboard spider, a self-balancing skateboard from this site, a water-cooled armchair, a fire-breathing dragon, 3d printers printing 3d printers, and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people all interested in Making Cool Stuff. Have a look at the photos - the image-notes are still buggy, so if there's one you don't understand, just ask. Oh, and the members we know we met were... Spartacus. Insomniac. XenonJohn (and his self-balancing skateboard!) Aidy22475. Sweavo. Oopstudios (I don't think I spelled that correctly) Spikeuk. Podling. JamJarcollective (I could have watched their ball-coasters all day...) Greensteam. We probably met more than that - if I missed you off the list, please let me know! The first of the videos...

Meet at Maker Faire

Hi Everyone! Sadly, Instructables will not have a booth at this year's Bay Area Maker Faire. BUT, some of our employees are going to meet up on Saturday for anyone that wants to get together and chat and take a group picture! The plan is to meet at in the middle of Zone 5 at 1PM on Saturday (I tried to circle it on the map, but there isn't a specific spot). We will try to Instagram a picture at 12:45PM to let people know where to meet. If you have it, wear your robot shirts, stickers, or patches (homemade or official)!

Maker Faire This Weekend!

Is anyone going to be even close to Austin this weekend? If so, drop by our booth and say "hi" on Saturday or Sunday. We'd love to talk to you and give you some stickers. Our stuff is already heading out on a big ol' truck, but Canida and I will be heading out later this week to see what Austin, Texas has to offer and bask in the Texas atmosphere. Hope to see you there.

2009 Maker Faire

Our presentation booth details for this year's Bay Area Maker Faire has just arrived and all of us here at Instructables are revved up and rearing to go. We are especially excited that Radioactive_Legos has decided to show off his 48V Electric Bike at our booth; it was a runner-up in the Craftsman Workshop of the Future Contest. If you have an awesome project that you have posted to Instructables and would like the chance to show it off without getting your own booth (having your own booth is awesome, but a hefty time commitment - sometimes it's nice to be able to see the Maker Faire!), contact noahw and let him know! We'll probably have room for your project at the Instructables booth, and we'd love to showcase as many cool user projects as we can. Also! Even though this year's Maker Faire is only now two months away, you still another 10 days to sign up for your very own presentation booth. Sign up at the official Maker Faire website.Whether you're coming to present your work or gawk, we look forward to seeing you!... and for those of you on the east coast or in the UK, we have you in our hearts ;-)

2 transistor Crystal radio amplifier kit - shortwave science fair

This kit is 5.00 dollars . To order send email. Then send check.  The amplifier  has the parts soldered on top of homemade circuit board. It is tested . I listen for KCBS, KGO,kSCO and several other stations with only a small ferrite on a crystal radio..  Only the circuit board is included.  The coil and tuning capacitor are not included. Many coil and variable capacitor combinations will work up to about  13 Mhz.  There is a small wire near the output which provides feedback when it is moved towards the input.  Each station is tuned individually as the feedback is different. Wrap several turns around the input coil (not included).  The variable capacitor is in parallel with the coil. The shortwave coil can be a 1 inch diameter with 13 turns of narrow wire. Stations I pick up are Radio Havana Cuba,  Radio New Zealand , Church and amateur. There are some cautions. It could include cutting tape for your circuit design.  The shortwave requires an external antenna. Schematic included. Crystal earphone is not included. Another transistor can be added for speaker  or 8 ohm type earphone.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the Science Fair at my school and I'm not finished yet. My aim is, Will Climate Change Affect The Growth Of Grass In The Next Ten Years? I've done the testing and I'm writing the conclusion. I need to know some plants that are sensitive to temperature changes. I have already searched and can't find any (I must have very bad searching skills). I also need to know what kind of chemicals that plants use. I'm kind of panicking right now!

Counter Cheating

I'm SURE I'm not the only one who thinks this I, like many, entered my guide in a contest What kills me when I'm viewing the competition is how there's a bad guide thats like 5th in voting, only has like 50-100 views, NO comments Now, something tells me that these people cheat the system by manufacturing accounts and voting for themselves. What they could do is just make it so that you can make one account per IP address in a given time like a day or two or something along those lines If cheaters replace legitimate guides in the finals for a contest, they falsify the legitimacy of the contest If you think Instructables should make some counter-cheater thing, comment, rate, whatever

Maker Fair Detroit Vacation

Well, I'm back from my vacation. It was awesome. First, I hit Maker Fair Detroit. I saw some pretty cool things. They include (in no particular order): Life Size Mouse Trap, Diet Coke and Mentos, a bunch of people riding wacky bikes, Iron Pour, races with a whole bunch of different vehicles, all-around crazy people, and the instructables booth. The instructables booth was the best, of course. Taking several trips there, I met frenzy, zazenergy, wilgubeast, and ostomesto (he was working a shift at the booth). Everyone was so nice (they gave me sugru, a patch, and stickers), and it was awesome to see them and meet them. At the instructables booth they had the most useless machine, the mohawk helmet, and the robot-pirate flag. Also, at the first day of Maker Fair, I wore my robot shirt with a camera in the robot's eye (instructable hopefully coming soon). It was funny seeing Frenzy so worried. Right away he asked, "What happened to his eye?!?". It's o.k. frenzy and robot lovers, I was careful when I did the procedure. I was hoping to get some good shots of the Fair, but alas, I had never used the camera shirt before so most of the pictures were of the sky (but I guess clouds are pretty too). I also got an arduino starter kit, so expect some cool arduino instructables coming in a couple of months (I say months because as of right now, it makes no sense). The rest of my vacation was fun: I stopped by Bad Axe (say it a couple of times quickly and you'll realize how cool this town name is) to get a hat, went fishing, and found out I won in the Fitness Challenge while on my iPod in an ice cream shop. Well, that's about it.

We'll be at Maker Faire NYC on September 17 & 18, at the Hall of Science in Queens. Last year lots of awesome people came to visit - will you be there this year?  We'll have office hours again this year so you can be sure to meet up with everyone at once.

Jug Hero to be at Maker Faire

The Make Blog has announced that Jug Hero will be at Maker Faire this year. You play the game by blowing over the mouth of the jug in time to the scrolling images similar to Guitar Hero. For extra points you can clink the bottles together. The graphics look to be a little lacking helping you out with the timing, but it's a cool idea. Hopefully it'll get a little fine-tuned for the big event.

KnowHow goes to Maker Faire

Tim Anderson takes us on a tour of Maker Faire 2007. See The Haul, a self-propelled victorian house with a steam engine, learn to run a gasoline engine on coffee grounds or anything that burns, see a robot pull a chariot, etc etc.Do you like it? Digg it!.
