A Story of Mine:

I've been a working on a tale for quite a while now. I've managed to finally write the proluge (like 1 page lol), and I'd appreciate it if you had a looksee and tell me what you thinkee. It's a fantasy/sci-fi story about a guy who gets himself drawn into an alternate universe full of elves, vampires, dragons, and tings that go bump in the night... Please excuse my rather poor story-writing skills, my brain runs on a graphics-based OS, not text-based.

Cloud's Buster Sword From Final Fantasy 7 Out Of K'nex

Ok, I tried to make the Buster Sword out of Knex. It looks like a skinnier version of it, and the handle is crappy, but it looks kinda like the real thing. Just don't swing it. I will post pics later when I find my camera. But, how about some of you Final Fantasy 7 fans out the join a new group all about FF7 Knex things? It's called Knex Final Fantasy 7 Remember, ONLY Final Fantasy 7 things will be allowed to be posted in this group.

Engineer's Duel

Hi everyone, I'm new here to this forum site but I wanted to share an idea I've been kicking around for a while now.  I'm a huge fan of the Fantasy vs Science Fiction debate and often like to combine certain elements from each into one another (ie Spell Casting Robots, Steampunk Wizards, etc). One of the staple elements of any Fantasy work is the iconic Wizard's Duel, when two magical wielders face off against one another using a combination or various spells, attacks and magic.   Now, I've always been interested in the kinds of sports/ competitions that focus scientific and engineering minds (robot battles). So I devised one of my own today, just something I think would be really interesting to watch. It's sort of like a modern day resurrection of medieval duels, but instead of weapons the duelers use inventions. Engineer's Duel Overview: Two inventors face off, each utilizing different inventions they've built to best their opponent, and eventually destroy them (or at least incapacitate). The purpose of the battle is to test the wits, intelligence, strategy and inventing skills of each of the duelers.   The goal is not to destroy the opponent, but instead their chosen gadgets until yours is the last one surviving. Rules: 1) No Robots. This fight should be between the duelers themselves, not their robotic minions. 2) No Direct Weapons Allowed (devices that serve no other purpose except as a weapon). Eg no guns, swords, canons, etc. The purpose of the duel is not about how powerful an invention one can build, but how inventive it is and how well the dueler uses it. 3) Each invention chosen by the duelers must be used at least once in the fight. 4) No EMPs, for obvious reasons 5) Vehicular machines such as Tumblers, Mech Warriors, and Giant Hovercrafts are allowed but only in the National Primaries. Other than this, if you can build it, you can use it. So yeah tell me what you think!

Final Fantasy 6 magitek armor!

Hello, fellow instructables members! I was looking over Bug's steampunk chicken-walker mecha, and I had a most awesome idea. From the final fantasy game that screams "steampunk", I remember the cool walker mechas, the 'magitek armor'. See where I'm going with this? I plan to make a chicken-walker style Magitek armor costume! Now, I doubt my mecha will do the magiteks any justice, and I've never quite made a complete "costume" myself, save for a mashup medieval style outfit (makes me think of ike from fire emblem). So, if anyone has input, especially anyone who does steampunk, I'm all ears. Also, thank you again to the user "Bug" for the inspiration!

costume for plum lady?

Hi all, I've been wracking my brains but can't seem to come up with a costume for myself. I'm plump, and quite frankly there aren't that many female characters out there in fantasy and sci fi land that are. can you suggest anyone?

Game Ideas?

I have been thinking about designing a game. here are some ideas I've been kicking around: Post-apocalyptic themed RPG: Based loosely on Discovery's new series, The Colony, you would play a character and experience his struggles to survive a cruel and lawless world. Final fantasy styled game. Zelda Platformer: It would incorporate the 'hoppy-jumpy' gameplay of the Mario Bros. Platform games with the dungeon-questing and puzzle-solving of the Legend of Zelda Titles. Mario RTS: Simply combine the gameplay of C&C with the themes of the Mario Brothers. nothing more to say. I am using Game Maker 7 Lite. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

What to do with this awesome glass bottle...

I recently bought a glass bottle from Micheal's(the craft store) for $1. It is one of those bottles that looks like it would hold a potion in a Final Fantasy game. There are no labels or marks on it and it includes a cork. If anybody has any ideas on what to do with it please post. Sardines454

weird archery bow ideas

I was just trying to write up a longbow instructable and a thought struck me. If You have two bows at right angles to one another joined at the handle would you get a better cast.. The arrow nocked at the interces of the two strings. I seem to remember some silly fantasy movie with crossbows set up this way...Any thoughts? The bow is such an old concept i would love to see some new variations

Put a summary of your story here...

The person will type it in and the person below has to say if they would read it. Think back, think back to when you were younger and you spent every waking moment making up and playing games. What ever you wanted, you had free rein over your thoughts and you would never ever get scared of your fantasies because you had control over them. You would play cops and robbers, pirates, witches and wizards, ghosts, vampires and werewolves, and win just because you made up the rules. Absolutely everything you could think of. Imagine the day all that stopped..when you finally grew up, when you stopped dreaming those magical places you escaped to. Instead your were going to school and starting homework and going on proper outings with your family.Your dreams lay blank..only thinking of the next day. Your life was comfortable. But what would you do when you dreamed again? What would you do when your fantasies became real? Not knowing whether they were real or just a stretch of you imagination. This thrilling tale is about a boy aged 14 years old called Mike Groves, and this is his nightmare! Would you read it.

Elementeo Chemistry Card Game

14-year-old Anshul Samar has created his own science-based fantasy card combat game Elementeo. Check out the interview with him below.Elementeo is a strategic battle game where you use your elements across the battlefield in reducing opponent's electrons to zero. You do that by harnessing the strength and moving properties of the elements and compounds, and by using their reactionary powers. For example, Oxygen can rust any neighboring metal or Copper Conductor can shock any metals and send them back to the deck. via Wired's Geekdad

HEAT: A Fire Cabaret

If you haven't heard yet, The Crucible's annual summer homage to fire is moving indoors this year, transforming their industrial arts studios into a searing jazz-age underground speakeasy where fantasy and fire converge with sultry music and machinery.  Some of the best talent in the Bay Area will perform amidst artisans plying their fiery trades, and guests will be invited to explore an industrial speakeasy alight with furnaces, forges and flames.  Time to get started on getting all dolled up for the 1920's -- think flapper dresses, finger waves, tommy guns and bootlegged fire.  More info and tix at: www.thecrucible.org

Old Fashioned Key

I was thinking the other day about how I could make all of the gothy underclassmen even more jealous of me and my accessories, when I came up with the idea of having a giant, ornate key as my keyring. Kinda like in the secret garden, or some other old fantasy type movie/book. I couldn't find any starting points at the craft store, but I was thinking it could probably be made from wood, metal, or some type of sculpting medium. SInce it'll be a key ring and flopping around with keys in my purse, it will be rather vulnerable to dings and chips. Any ideas?

What can I do with lots of Magic: The Gathering cards?

Hi there. I have several thousand Magic the gathering cards, possibly over 10k at this point, that I don't really need. I was thinking about giving my room a nice blue tone by covering the walls with them, but I don't think I have quite enough blue cards for that. So at this point I'm kind of just wondering what I COULD do with them. A nice thing about them is that I have 30-40 of many of the same cards, so if I want a large patch of the same color for some reason, it's possible. For those that don't know, Magic cards are the size of a normal playing card, but about twice as thick and have detailed fantasy art on them. Primary colors used are blue, green, red, black, and white.

Help with a cast metal coin instructable!

Need help finding a particular instructable, friends.  I would almost bet body parts that I saw an instructable here that had the following process to it for making a custom fantasy coin or medallion: Use the underside  bottom of a paper coffee cup-mix up a portion of Bondo and fill the bottom recess with it.  When Bondo hardens, pop out the round disc, paste a paper disc onto it then draw out your coin or medallion design.  Carve out your design with a dremel or similar, make a silicone putty mold, then when mold is dry, pour pewter or zinc to make a custom coin. Darken and polish. I know I've seen it, I'm wanting to stick it in my favorites list so I don't lose it again, and I especially want to thank the author for coming up with such a simple process for a custom medallion. Can anyone help me?

World Record Gaming Gathering.

A total of 342 gamers dressed as icons from games such as Final Fantasy, Zelda and Solid Snake in east London as part of the London Games Festival. They narrowly broke a record of 337 set last week in Germany.Festival director Duncan Best said: "It was a bit touch-and-go for a while but the gaming community really stepped up to the challenge."The record was verified by Guinness World Records at the Excel Centre in Docklands on Saturday.A further 50 fans in fancy dress could not take part, however, as rules stated that characters who were primarily famous from movies were disqualified."So we had people turning up dressed as Lego Batman, for example, who could not be counted," said Mr Best. Get your details right, BBC! We all know Batman is most famous from the TV show...Still, it would have been nice to see the Lego Batman costume.BBC StoryLondon Games FestivalGuinness World Records

Need a Game Development Team

Hey all, I'm looking to put together a small dev team for an indie game project that I'm planning. I'm working from the ground up here, so just about every role is still open. Experience is a plus, but I really only ask that you know what you're doing. The project will be a 3D Sci-fi/Fantasy RPG with a unique style of combat that combines the strategic skill-based systems of JRPG with the real-time fluidity of Western games. I'll put the project on a crowdfunding site like Kickstarter after I have a team and the completed GDD, so some stretch goals might include expanding to MMO or VR. I can give more specific details if you have questions. Roles to Fill: Programmer (C++, Unity 3D) Artist Level Designer Composer Scripter/Writer Voices (maybe) I couldn't pay immediately, but payment would probably be a fixed amount or a percent of the crowdfunding. If anyone is interested or has any questions, let me know.

Public domain, Creative Commons etc. musci sources wanted

My latest film project is in the style of a fantasy epic- think LotR, Narnia, that sort of "party of brave adventurers battle evil in a non-specific setting resembling mediaeval Europe" thing. It's in post-production now, but while we are ok for visual effects and editing we really need some music. To keep options open regarding public performances, we make sure to use music that doesn't infringe any copyrights- the last film only used original compositions and public-domain soundtracks. For this film we need public-domain music in a fantasy genre. The links below illustrate the sort of style we are looking for. Public domain recordings would be great, but freely-reproducible scores would be ok as we have a couple of talented musicians in the group who can play pieces with limited instrumentation, but sadly no full orchestra! The best answer will receive a Best Answer, probably a patch if the answer leads to some good sources, and possibly (at the discretion of The Powers That Be) a credit in the film.Rousing orchestral musicSadly we have little hope of reproducing music like this, but any public domain not-too-recognisable pieces would be absolutely great.Celtic-sounding flute/whistle music... is something we could actually play. Recordings would be better, though.Faux-mediaeval stringsOh, what I'd give to have a cellist on board. Oh well.Slow reflective piano melodiesNot quite as "folk" as the rest but would give great colour to the sad moments in the filmHarp musicNo, we aren't going to rip off the Braid soundtrack. I know, it's a shame. The only harpist I know is busy studying for her veterinary medicine degree so doesn't have time for our stupid projects.Of course, if anyone plays in any of the above styles and feels like hooking us up with a score or a recording that we could use, you would be the coolest person in the history of the world.I may be abusing the phrases "public domain" and "creative commons" here- I have tried to sum up what the copyright issues are and our stance on them, but essentially we need music we can put in a derivative work and potentially show in public.

I am SO tired....

I am just SO tired of not being able to be who I am.  If I am kind to children, I become a molester, if I let my feelings go with free reign, am outlandish if I don't let my feelings out, I am unfeeling, if I speak the truth, I am a heratic if I hold on to fantasy, I am bonkers. If I talk about who I am, what I am, people don't want to hear it, and eventually deny it altogether; so I can NEVER be who I am around most people... (obviously "around" means in person). I can't win. Also,  Can ANYONE on line truly know me, in any real capacity ?   Can anyone have experienced the tremendous struggles I have with sensory overload?  Can any of you REALLY know how much I struggle day in and day out to not become cynical like the tv character HOUSE ?  I mean,  really ?

Fairytale Fashion

Howdy, folks. Long time instructablizer, here... first time forum poster. I recently started working at Eyebeam on a project called Fairytale Fashion. It's focusing on demonstrating how to use some techy, geeky staples and apply them to fashion. We're making clothing that transforms, changes color, responds to touch, body heat, and even the weather. The project is being run by Diana Eng. You might remember her from Project Runway or her book Fashion Geek. Every week until the end of December we'll be releasing videos documenting our experiments, providing tutorials, and showing you how you can be a champion fashion geek and make fantasy fashion a reality. We're trying to involve as many people as possible; asking for design ideas, getting feedback our work, making sure people can build off of what we make. It would be awesome if you had any input, designs you'd like to see, or ideas on cool fashions to look at and reference and posted them on our blog. Here are the first couple episodes:

I'm trying to make a Breast Plate

Hey, I'm going to build a piece of FANTASY chest armor. I'm not going for realism or authenticity. Just making "a pile of spikes" that looks cool in my opinion. I'm thinking of making something to the equivalent of a low neck line tank top out of leather / tight weave canvas, and then covering it in steel plates. I'm thinking of dividing the front suit into groups and bands of plate. So I'm going to have a set of bands from the right and left chest, then another section that joins them down the center. A section for the abdomen, a section for each side, and then similar sections for the back. I'm then going to bolt the shoulders onto their respective chest plates. So I've done a crappy sketch on GIMP, Kinda explaining what I'm going to do for the center line of the chest. I think If I do this right It'll allow a lot of flexibility, might even be able to see my chest expand and contract while breathing which I think would be a cool effect. Is there any reason why this wont work? But are there any key factors that I need to take into account when doing this? Parts that need to be more flexible than others?

The Skateborder

Have you ever heard of the string theory? Well my friends here's a cool thing. The atom has been broken down into smaller molecules by scientist then just neutrons, protons, etc. They have actually been broken down into bands of energy which were broken down into the equivalent of our computer's 1s and 0s. So are we living in The Matrix. The fact is yes. Our main character, Celia Thanatos is a punk rocker skateboarder who is also a scientist. She discovered out how to hack the Universe from the inside, and obtain very special abilities in which the government wants her dead for. Combining her abilities with her skateboarding skills, Celia takes on the system at all odds. Not only does she face the government, but she also faces what the system throws at her. All supernatural creatures break free into the realm and unleash hell upon humanity. While on her skateboard, you as Celia must perform specific stunts and skills to fight your enemies. C3 Corvette Stingray to Flex Fuel/Swapping engines? Or, Tell my if my boyhood fantasy can be a reality

Short story: How hard would it be to drop a new, maybe flex-fuel, oh-say-maybe-an Impala engine into a C3 Corvette? Long story: I love Corvettes. A lot. I have decided to save up enough money over the next two years to purchase a C3 (1968-82) Corvette, and bring it up to modern motoring glory. I've been poking around, and looks like I can get a POS for about 10-15 grandios americanos. ANYWAY I'd like to replace the old engine with a nice new fuel injected, computer controlled, more efficient engine then whatever is inside. All I'm really after is the body. Frumpy 70's interior and matching engine numbers be screwed. My question to you: Several new Chevys are flex fuel, how hard would it be to get a wrecked car (I'm thinking an Impala might be about right), take out the engine and computer control goodness, and stick it in said 'Vette? My plans for the Corvette, I'm thinking a '80-'82 if I have choice, I'd totally get a '64 split window, but they be EXPENSIVE: ~Complete interior overhaul; brushed aluminum dash (retro-motorfied-Apple-esque?), sound system etc... ~New paint job; blue with silver racing stripes (like the new Shelby Cobra, reversed) ~New engine, and what ever mechanical tune-ups are required. ~I might make the sunroof removable ~Whatever else comes to mind in my owner ship of the most awesome thing on 4 wheels Thanks!!

Would you like your own satellite? (Contest with $1500 prize)

Oh the joy of Twitter!  I just found out about this very cool contest from Discover Magazine via BoingBoing: Imagine having your own personal satellite orbiting the Earth. It’s got cameras and sensors galore, and you can use it to run experiments, take pictures, and even beam messages back to the blue marble. Well, that geek fantasy will become a reality if the ArduSat project, which you can see here on Kickstarter, reaches its funding goal. The general public will be able to rent time on this small satellite and use it for whatever they please, courtesy of its Arduino processor. [The folks] at Discover Magazine think this is pretty neat. And [they'd] like to give away a development kit worth $1500 to the Kickstarter donor who submits the best idea for an in-space experiment before July 15th, 2012. The kit includes Arduinos and an advanced sensor suite shipped to your home address, as well as one week of up-time on the satellite to run any experiment. You’ll be able to build the experiment yourself and have it be sent up on ArduSat when it takes to the skies. Here’s what you have to do to enter the (drumroll) Discover Space Challenge: (1) Fund the ArduSat project, for however much or little as you desire. You’ll receive a personal code that identifies you as a donor. (2) Read the contest guidelines here to learn about how you should design and submit your idea. (3) Enter with this entry form, making sure to include your personal code. (4) Wait for winners to be announced on July 20th, after judging by Discover blogger Phil Plait, Discover Editor-in-Chief Corey Powell, and an expert panel of judges. (5) Rejoice!

Any PIC Experts out there?

Can somebody help? I have a few PIC16F628, ISD2532 sound chips and 4-digit seven segment LED displays with MM5450 chips from some old laser-gaming boards that I’d like to do something with but have got completely baffled by the data sheets and the complications of PIC programming. Basically, what I’d like to do is create a ‘dummy bomb’ as a present for my local gaming field along the lines of:- • Have a hex keypad enter an ‘unlock code’. Display and save that code • Use the hex keypad to input the time to start counting down from (Minutes & Seconds). Display and lock in that time • Have a button start to ‘arm’ the bomb and start decrementing the time and display it • When the timer reaches 00.00 then ‘fire’ the sound effect in the MM5450 and have an output go low for triggering something else • The device can be ‘defused’ by entering the correct code (equal to that previously stored) or by cutting the ‘correct’ wire – other wires triggering the device. It would seem to me that the ‘wire cutting’ scenario could be accomplished by using tied inputs – one changing state defuses, the others trigger the device. In an ideal world, the device would have 2 operating modes – timer and non-timer, the non-timer mode allowing for the device to be triggered by trip-wire, breaking an IR beam, a ‘hit’ from a gaming gun, etc. In a perfect world, it could also send a 56Khz IR data stream to ‘kill’ all the gaming guns within range but I don’t know the coding for that data stream and it may be in the realms of fantasy anyway… I don’t have a PIC programmer yet but they don’t seem difficult to build or hard to find – only having a laptop means USB though and that does limit things… I can do all the wiring and packaging but is there somebody who could help me out with the programming and/or general advice? Thanks Duncan

"Miracle Liquid" - Electrolyzed Water

Http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/23/business/fi-magicwater23I think someone with more time than me should see how to do this most efficiently and see if it work! The article:Sounds like the old "Saturday Night Live" gag for Shimmer, the faux floor polish plugged by Gilda Radner. But the elixir is real. It has been approved by U.S regulators. And it's starting to replace the toxic chemicals Americans use at home and on the job.The stuff is a simple mixture of table salt and tap water whose ions have been scrambled with an electric current. Researchers have dubbed it electrolyzed water -- hardly as catchy as Mr. Clean. But at the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica, some hotel workers are calling it el liquido milagroso -- the miracle liquid. That's as good a name as any for a substance that scientists say is powerful enough to kill anthrax spores without harming people or the environment.Used as a sanitizer for decades in Russia and Japan, it's slowly winning acceptance in the United States. A New York poultry processor uses it to kill salmonella on chicken carcasses. Minnesota grocery clerks spray sticky conveyors in the checkout lanes. Michigan jailers mop with electrolyzed water to keep potentially lethal cleaners out of the hands of inmates. In Santa Monica, the once-skeptical Sheraton housekeeping staff has ditched skin-chapping bleach and pungent ammonia for spray bottles filled with electrolyzed water to clean toilets and sinks."I didn't believe in it at first because it didn't have foam or any scent," said housekeeper Flor Corona. "But I can tell you it works. My rooms are clean."Management likes it too. The mixture costs less than a penny a gallon. It cuts down on employee injuries from chemicals. It reduces shipping costs and waste because hotel staffers prepare the elixir on site. And it's helping the Sheraton Delfina tout its environmental credentials to guests. The hotel's kitchen staff recently began disinfecting produce with electrolyzed water. They say the lettuce lasts longer. They're hoping to replace detergent in the dishwasher. Management figures the payback time for the $10,000 electrolysis machine will be less than a year."It's green. It saves money. And it's the right thing to do," said Glenn Epstein, executive assistant at the Sheraton Delfina. "It's almost like fantasy."

Sci-Fi Gardening

I read an article on Dave's Garden a year ago on plants with Star Trek names, and I just adore the idea of having a science fiction themed garden.  Looking through some more plants, I've come across even more plants that would fit within a sci-fi/outer space theme. Coleus: Darth Vader Saturn Saturn's Rings Solar Flare Solar Shadow Solar Sunrise Vulcan Daylily: Alien Alien Contact Alien Encounter Alien Escape Pod Alien Invader Alien Landing Alien Skin Alien's Eye Android Android Dreams Andromeda Asteroid Astral Voyager Beam Me Up Beam Me Up, Scotty Ben Kirk Big Dipper Black Hole Borg Technology Cloaking Device First Officer's Log Galaxy Quest Klatuu Barata Nictu Life on Bajor Notify Ground Crew Photon Torpedo Romulan Deflector Spock's Ears Vulcan Logic Hosta:   Captain Kirk Enterprise Foxfire X Philes (just for fun) Galaxy Galaxy Light Gamma Ray Kiwi Milky Way Little Dipper Lunar Eclipse Lunar Orbit Lunar Sea Outer Space Saturn Starship Striker Super Nova Venus Voyager Vulcan These lists are not complete.  I looked through 5,320 daylily names out of 38,449 on Dave's Garden and then filled in with some names from the article, and I'm sure there are more genuses with sci-fi plants.  The reason why there are so many hostas, daylilies, and coleuses is because they're relatively easy to hybridize and propagate.  I started looking through African violets, but half-way through I was pretty sure I wouldn't find any.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were some more in the Liliaceae family such as with tulips, but phew, that's a lot of plants. Looking through some of the names, it would be relatively easy to do a Lord of the Rings or fantasy-themed garden.  I even found hostas called "Dot Com" and "Website".  Hybridizers certainly get creative when it comes to names.  I think I'll send my brother-in-law a hosta called "Twisted Sister". The image is of a basket plant I have.  No neat name, but it looks kinda sci-fi in the picture.

SteamPunk Typewriter Keyboard for PC!!! Handmade please look!!

Check out this eBay auction for the following SteamPunk Typewriter Keyboard!!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=170344004923&ssPageName;=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123"SteamPunk" Typewriter Keyboard for PCThis is a custom made "Steampunk" Typewriter Keyboard that is fully functional and works with any PC! I hand made this over the course of many weeks of hard and meticulous work, using the guts of a very solid Logitech PC keyboard system which I completely rebuilt over many stages, into this solid, beautiful, and unique piece of antique technological art! Three separate sets of antique Royal glass typewriter keys make up all of the keys besides the handmade brass keys (described below). I can personally guarantee this keyboard is completely unique, and you won't find anything like it out on the market! This new beautiful style of combining the old Victorian look with new high-tech products is becoming very popular from young teens looking to be creative and inspired to rich business CEO's wanting something beautiful to match their office. Think about the all the joy and beauty this would bring to your life (not to mention bragging rights!). Right now is your chance to own a piece or art and history which you can put to use everyday! This keyboards design consists of:Solid glass keys from a three different sets of original antique Royal early 1900's typewriters.Hand and naturally aged copper top and bottom rails.Custom, hand punched, leather backing (perfectly fitted and stretched over the top and seamed underneath).Custom bent steel side brackets (which have been properly welded to the copper rails to make a very solid keyboard).Beautiful antique cloth wire loom covering computer connector.Hand made brass Esc key, F keys (done in roman numerals), Arrows, and nine keys above Arrows (because they didn't make any of these keys on antique typewriters).Brief "Steampunk" HistorySteampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date.Functionality and BeautyAs I keep strongly pointing out, not only does this piece of techno-art look beautiful, but it also works as beautifully too! All the keys were lubricated then meticulously aligned and ergonomically angled with high strength silicon glue, which will stand up to many years of hard use! Keys that weren't available (such as the F keys and arrows) I custom made from brass which was then clear coated for years of protection.A Brief Fabrication ProcessThis whole keyboard started with an idea in my head one day, and then turned into numbers of sketches and design ideas until I filled my notebook and decided it was time to make it! I started with a high quality Logitech PC keyboard, and gutted it down to the bare parts. Then after trimming all the borders off the top frame I perfectly aligned the key frame back together with now a flat surface. Next I had to hand cut all the key tops off and level them for attachment of the Royal typewriter keys. During this process I custom made the copper/steel rails and side pieces making sure the height and angle was ergonomically correct. Next was the custom punching of the leather backing which was quite difficult to align perfectly, but came out beautifully! Finally the smaller things like the light posts, cloth wire loom, painting and copper aging, and electrical work was done. (P.S. Like I said, this is a very brief summary of the complete process! Many, many steps took place during this fabrication!)Level, Sturdy, and Desk Scratching Friendly! This frame was professionally welded together by a hired welder who meticulously made sure was level and solid. Every detail about this keyboard was thoroughly thought through, down to the hidden padded bases so it won't slide around on your desk or scratch it!You Wont Find Anything Like It!Obviously you can tell by now that this is a very custom piece of art that you have the chance to own and display in your office or home! You can't imagine the beauty of this in real life, pictures just simply do no justice! A few other people have attempted to make such type of typewriter keyboards that consist of the original ugly plastic base and just changed keys.... this keyboard goes above and beyond the bar and you will not be disappointed!Reduced Environmental ImpactAs always, I tried to stay eco-conscious while designing and fabricating this keyboard. It was designed with the following features to reduce its environmental impact:High quality polyurethane based Leather alternative (no animals harmed!)Recycled copper pipingOriginal and restored Royal typewriter keys.Highly recyclable parts (although you'll never want to get rid of this!)

contests I would like to see...

I am making wishes out loud and hopefully they will fall on some interested ears... A vegetarian food contest.  Vegetarian food can be so super good, but so often in restaurants the vegetarian option is a regrettable choice.  It would be so cool to get a bunch of recipes for vegetarian food that was *awesome*.  I always thought if I had a bajillion dollars I would start a chain of vegetarian food restaurants where the food was amazingly tasty and affordable.  I really believe people would choose it over McDonalds if they had such an option, which they don't really.  It's hamburgers and pizza all the way down the highway... A Wallace and Grommit contest.  Come up with a silly contraption to walk your dog or keep your cereal from getting soggy or something like that.   It could also have a Rube Goldberg or Dr. Seuss theme just as easily. An idea contest.  Maybe you've got a great idea, but now clue how to implement it in reality.  You post an idea somehow and the community comments on how to implement it or maybe actually implements it if it's a really good idea.  Of the best ideas suggested: The idea person gets a prize and the implementer too.  I'm sure a lot of people out there have awesome ideas but don't have the time or tools or skills to get it accomplished.  Of course, everyone's dream is to come up with an idea, someone else makes it form them into a commercial reality and they get a cut of the profit*.   If you could work that into the Grand prize somehow, I think you could get a crazy swarm of submissions, possibly overwhelming.  I'm not sure what the legal complications of such a thing would be, that might be prohibitive.  They'd have to word the language carefully, I guess, cause it's far too easy to generate ideas and very much harder to actually do the 80/20% and implement them.  I imagine you could easily have an overwhelming swarm of idea submissions.  I'm not sure how you'd do crowd control on it.  A How-its-made contest?  You have a thing, you take it apart and show how it was assembled or what its interior parts do.  The Grand prize could be a trip to China with a tour of willing Chinese factories to actually see how the things we take for granted every day are actually manufactured.  Or perhaps some kind of interesting factory tour or another? Just tossing these ideas out there and see where they stick or not. *so they can retire to the Bahamas and continue making up great ideas indefinitely, dictating them over the teletype to their devoted lackey back in the states or hoards thereof.  Or some other such quit work forever fantasy...
