Ok the spam in the Q&A section is out of hand. Almost to the point of being a denial of service attack. So much so there is no way to keep up with trying to report it. Be nice if we could report a user directly. Alternatly it would be nice to see restrictions implemented for new users. Such that they can only post a limited number of threads per day.

I just had a great Idea last night. Okay, I think we've all seen those $250,000 homemade flight simulators built by people with just a wee bit too much time on their hands (like anyone who goes on instructables). One of the main reasons these are expensive, other than the computer themselves, is the fact that there are multiple LCD screens surrounding the pilot. These things cost a few pretty pennies, so this is where my idea comes in. The first thing you would need to do, would be to arrange some semi-opaque plastic panels where you would usually have the LCD displays. They need to be opaque enough that you can't see through them, but clear enough to let a good bit of light through. In other words, they need to be translucent, not transparent. The second thing would be computer software. It needs to be able to totally invert your desktop display. You could do this with hardware, but it would be a waste of time and materials. Connected to your computer would be a digital projector, which is where all of the magic of this project comes together. You run the projector through a prism (what kind, anyone?), to slightly warp the projected image. You need this warpage (is that a word?), to counteract the different angles of the plastic panels. The projector is set up in front of the "cockpit," projecting its inverted, warped image at it. You can see the images on the inside, because you chose the correct opacity, right? The hope behind this idea, is that it is much cheaper to have 1 digital projector, than it is to have multiple LCDs. Thanks! MDJ

As some might know I still use an old Gen1 Prusa but love the challenge of basically getting everything done with that oldie. One of my latest challenges of "always" printing on a cold bed includes Nylon. If you ever had troubles because you ABS or PLA filament got too moist you will already know what happens to your print... Nylon is even worse when it comes to moisture as you can't see or really feel it. I was thinking of making a complete Nylon guide as an Instructable but think I will start here to kick off some discussion first. So, we know the Nylon must be really dry for a god print as otherwise we get bubbles, bad adhesion and of course a foamy looking print. Well, not really... Let me explain: A perfectly smooth and shiny finnish is not always required, and with the right settings Nylon still forms strong bonds even with a foamy look. However, the dimensions of parts are affected as well - outside dimensions go bigger and hole diameters smaller. If that is no issue for your print then there is no real need to perfectly dry your filament ;) Speaking of drying: People use all sorts of methods to dry their filament, not just Nylon. One of the most common and most expensive seems to be the use of your oven for several hours to dry it. Another way involves food dyhydrators, bit less on the energy bill but still... Then we have the smart guys using the sun and silaca gel for the drying - good and great but so useless in cold and wet climates... My advise here: Take your time! I mean, sure you want to print right after the filament arrived in your letter box but a bit of preperation will save you filament and frustration. Usually filament comes in a sealed bag with a pack of silica gel and it should be dry and ready to use. But Nylon can become too moist within the time it takes to finnish a long print if you are in a wet climate. This means you start printing and all is good but the next day your new print looks ugly as for no real reason. Make use of these sealed storage containers. Put the filament in there with a good amount of indicating silica gel and only have a hole to feed the filament through - if in doubt use a bowden fitting and a short lenght of teflon tube to prevent friction. A piece of sticky tape over the hole when you don't use the filament and the filament is always ready to use. Reminds me to make an Ible for a suitable storage solution with spool holder... Anyway... When it finally comes to print Nylon you should know cardboard works best as a bed as Nylon sticks really well to it. I glue mine onto a layer of masking tape, this way it won't lift from the bed and I can still replace it very easy. But the most common mistake with Nylon is to print it too fast. The stuff really expands and shrinks a lot from filament to print and high speeds only too often cause the layers to seperate later on. Some people compensate with higher temperatures but I don't like the idea of fitting a filter system with activated carbon filters... Also keep in mind the intense shrinkage when setting the extrusion multiplier! If your ABS prints fine with 0.85 you can expect that the same sized Nylon prints fine somewhere in the range of 55-60! Now you also know why printing with thick layers is not such a great idea if you require all dimensions to fit. Although only outside accuracy can be done by cheating in the settings, getting outside, inside and extrusion widths settings accurate is almost rocket sience ;) Nylon is expensive or not available here in the diameter I require.... I had the same trouble and reverted to trimmer line and a modified, dedicated hotend instead. Why dedicated you wonder? Nylon can be real pain to clean as nothing dissolves and if you heat the parts hot enough to melt it you can not work easy with them. Having a decicated hotend means you won't run into the problem of burnt ABS or PLA clogging the nozzle ;) It also means you can match the hotend to the trimmer line you choice (more on that in a minute). For example, in some areas trimmer line of 2mm or 3.3mm diameter is the most popular and cheapest. Just drill out the hotend to cater for the new diameter, which I did after noticing the filament got stuck in the neck of the cold end ;) Trimmer line - does it matter which one? It does these days! Avoid everything that is not round or labeled with terms like "duracore", "dual core", "multi layer" -basically all that indicates it is not just a single, solid stand of Nylon. Long lasting, special core line is great for your lawn trimmer but really bad for your hotend! PET, High temp nylon or even fibre re-inforced cores are in use, so in the best case you mix the nylon with overheating PET, in the worst you block your nozzle permanently. If it looks like it has a core or some sort of "mantle" around it, it means not usable.

Here's an interesting contest that's up for a couple more weeks: the Smellfighters Swirl Innovation Contest . The goal is to identify some funky domestic smell that you could do without and propose a solution for it. From the look of the entries so far it shouldn't be too tough to have a fighting chance. Enter it by Dec. 21 for a shot at the top prize of 2,000 Euro! You guys are great at coming up with ideas so this should be easy to check out and try. Give it a shot.

I am trying to find a toy that my brother had as a kid. What it is was a battery powered base that you put a spinning blade like object it was all made of plastic, on top of the blade was a plastic shield like object to hold the blade on, the two motor bases where connected together with string that came out the side of the robot and connected to a plastic anchor point of the other. When you turned on the two bases it caused the blades to spin and the tether lines slowly retracted causing the blades to come into contact which then knocked the shields and blades off each other. The person who still had their blade and or shield on at the end won. Does anyone know what these toys where called?

my computer and ipod touch seem to be fighting each other ip address wise, when one connects to the internet it steals the others internet connection and after a few minutes the device loses connection altogether. I've already set both devices to have private fixed ips .68 for one and .69 for the other. another thing is that when only one is connected on the 192.168.1.254 mainpage the device says it is the other, so when my computer is connected but not my ipod it says my ipod is connected and vise versa. my main problem is they lose connectivity after a few minutes. i have also disabled the wifi protected setup(which att told me would help solve my problems). If any other info is needed please tell me, i really need this solved!!

NH artist protests halt to Bigfoot project -------------------- Jan 5, 9:42 PM EST JAFFREY, N.H. (AP) -- A New Hampshire artist and videographer who dressed as Bigfoot in a state park says his rights were trampled by big government. Jonathan Doyle, of Keene, has complained in a letter to the state parks department that a Mount Monadnock park ranger halted his performance art project in the fall because he didn't have a permit. Doyle is arguing through the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union Foundation that his free-speech rights were violated when he was expelled from the state park in Jaffrey. He says he and others with him, some also in costume, were on a lesser-used trail and weren't bothering other park visitors. Doyle says the state hasn't responded to his letter. The Division of Parks and Recreation says it has been forwarded to the state attorney general's office. -------------------- The question is: Would you be able to resist the temptation to jump out from behind trees and scare park visitors if you were dressed up as Bigfoot? I'm not sure that I could should I ever find myself in that rather unlikely situation.

Do you know of any training methods that can help me increase flexibility speed and power? Any scientifically more efficient ways to train?
Conoy Township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; is voting to avoid flying surveillance remote controlled aircrafts above their skies. In a time when the United States government approves the use of drones to spy on the civilian population, I have found interesting how people are responding. This municipal ordinance definitely will not stop the use of drones on this area if deemed necessary for our national security but I wonder if this could be the start of a trend.

Fungus enjoys cutting bears in half, being a dinosaur, and Swedish sports.Noah is experienced at pouring water through his nose, putting on condoms and kissing. So the big question is, Who would in in a fight?Best answer gets a patch =]Tally so far:Ed (fungus) : 11Noah: 5The results are in! And they're pretty inconclusive. While Fungus Amungus won by sheer voting power, those that know them voted for Noah. Fungus had this to say about the underdog, "Noah's been a river guide for the past month so he's probably pretty strong right now." So who would win? The world may never know. What we do know is that I'm awarding patches to both Goodhart and AndyGadget for the most logical, and systematic guesses, respectively.

So I have 2 friends who got in a fight about a week ago, after school, and off campus. Someone videoed it, and put it on their facebook account. One of the fighters got suspended for school for a week for the fight, despite it being after school, and not on campus. Do you personally think this is an unreasonable punishment, or is it? What do you think of this situation? I want to hear your opinions here, and encourage a good discussion.
