How do you use different herbs and spices in cooking and baking? I think I need to word this differently, since what I am really looking for is the Taste from different Herbs and spices, since I do know the difference and some basics. What I want to know is the Taste they may impart to the food I am preparing, such as Red Pepper tends to make things hot, Parsley tends to give things a sort of "lemony flavor", Cinnamon adds some sweetness and helps enhance the sweetness of some foods. The particular spices and herbs I want to know about are Tarragon, Cumin, Thyme, Saffron, Marjoram,Corriander and Cardamon. These are spices I want to try, but am not sure exactly what they do for the taste of food, and which foods they are best used in and how much!?!

Hey, In an effort to get some discussion going in this group I am posting a simple question: What is your favorite food? If there is an instructable for you favorite food please leave the name of the instructable too. My favorite food is fried cucumbers and tomatoes or bubble tea. There are lots of instructables for bubble tea.

I've been thinking about building a food dehydrator. Has anyone used a stripped down dishwasher? It has an element.

I was told that its toxic to smoke food with wine barrel wood because its treated with linseed oil to make them waterproof and to keep contamination from going thru the wood. Ive searched all over the internet but cant find any info on the health effects of the smoke. I see many people selling this wood and I have tried it for smoking food but don't want to sell something that's harmful to eat. Any for sure info as it could be a legal problem for me. Chow. Lance

Recently built a pebble patio under my orgainically maintained apple tree d/t area always muddy from lack of sun. I need to spray the pebbles with some sort of adhesive to maintain the pebble's integrity. Any homemade suggestions or store- bought would be happily embraced.

I'm trying to make a home-made smoker, a portable one that is. My current idea involves using a wooden smoke box, untreated wood (Any suggestions on what type to use?) and a portable gas stove, like those camping ones. My first question is, what type of wood would be good to make the box out of? Any major no-nos as to certain woods? Second, would a portable camping stove (either methylated spirits powered or gas powered) heat a metal plate hot enough to get the wood smoking?

There was a chef I saw one TV once who does some original things with food, for instance, he made a pizza that looks like a chocolate cake. He also pureed pancakes into a liquid, and then put them on below zero plates to re-solidify them when serving. But now, I can't figure out how to find him. Any help would be appreciated.

Concerning the Fake it, Don't Make it! Contest, I was wondering if RealSimple's (RealSimple.com's) Instructables count. They are added to the group but I wasn't sure if they were just there to attract visitors and inspire them, or what. Thank you.

Hey all - I was wondering if anyone had a recipe or any idea of what spices/flavorings go into Holiday Spice Pepsi. My boyfriend and I are addicted to it and Pepsi doesn't make it anymore and has no plans to in the future. Any suggestions would be great!

We have a lot of chestnut in my hometown. Everytime it will take us so long time to remove the inner layer (not outer skin). Do you have some ways or some machine which can remove this layer very easily?
