Change the format back. Please. the new one is really annoying. plus, the search is lame.

It just occurred to me that the format of the new editor causes there to be a disconnect between the images and the text. Often I'm having to scroll up and down repeatedly to see the image the text is referring to. The format of the editor is predominantly vertical while screens are predominantly horizontal/widescreen (or can be turned). What if the text in an ible was next to the images instead of below? See the image for precisely what I mean.

When you scroll down the page while editing, the formatting bar hits the top of the screen and it floats as you scroll down. A second formatting bar opens on the right. Both quit working as soon as the formatting bar starts to float. Sometimes the right one works, mostly not. On my laptop with Window Vista, both on Firefox and Internet Explorer On my desktop with Windows 7, on Firefox 29.0.1, Internet Explorer and Safari. I'm working on a draft "Amped Floor Lamp"

What is going on with the new format for the different pages? All I can find is featured "ibles" with large pictures, wheres the zeitgist, recent, popular etc that used to be on the main page of each section (ride, outdoors, offbeat, green, life, etc etc?) Am I overlooking something? Is it just MY computer?

I have a SD card 4G - I need to format it to FAT16 to use in a Sharp XEA-207 Cash Register, A friend tells me I have to go back to last century OP systems or DOS (to the dawn of so called civilisation) Is there a way out - I can recognise the head and point of a nail but that is about it - can follow instructions - please be kind enough to come down to my level - a, b, c, d,,,1, 2, 3 etc. - Deepest gratitude.

In a posting to NachoMahma's Text-Formatting FAQ, I remarked on a bug in the way hyperlinks (bracketed text) are rendered. The bug involves enclosing a hyperlink (valid or not) between punctuation characters, for example "[a-quoted-link]" or ([parenthetical-link]): "[a-quoted-link]" ([parenthetical-link])In both cases, the leading punctuation character, adjacent to the left bracket, is moved to the end of the link, instead of being preserved at the beginning.

It's been asked before, many times, but still has not happened. Can we please have formatting preserved in PMs? I've had a number of long PMs recently, and all very hard to read because they were in a single block of text. Yes, I know we can type in code ourselves, but I'm on my iPod right now, and a single line break in a PM takes 10 key-strokes!!

I am thinking about getting into large format photography & I was hoping that I could get some questions answered by other photgraphers on here. 1: How many of us out here use large format cameras? 2: What is the type of technique that causes the pictures to appear w/ a yellow or brown appearance to it that is used in vintage photo sessions? 3: Can I get some tips on developing w/ an enlarger it has been about 10 years since I've used one so I don't remember anything about that. Any help w/ this would be greatly appreciated, thank you ahead of time.

Wow, I have to say the changes to Instructables were not good ones. You took a perfectly usable interface for the projects and managed to make it harder to use. I feel frustrated that I had to dig to get what I wanted. And this whole Ace branding scheme, guess it's time for the site creators to cash out, right? Really, you've taken a site I enjoyed visiting and made it useless.

A new feature deployed recently checks the URLs we put inside comments (i.e., the first token inside square brackets) and reports if we haven't given a valid URL.The annoying bug is that the whole preview is suppressed, and there is no indication of where in the text the error might be. Briefly, the preview actually showed the whole text, but with the error part called out in big red box. That was better, and would be nice to get back.Failing that, maybe just putting the malformed URL into the preview as a literal string, highlighted or underlined or something might be helpful.

For the last month I have not been able to see te complete Instructable email when viewed with Incredimail. I haven't updated Incredimail so it shouldn't be that. I get just what fits in the preview pane and the progress bar shows a full indicator. If i double click in the e-mail to open it separately i get the same problem. I can however see the e-mail if i select forward or reply but of course no links are active so I can't get at them from there. When the e-mail is selected for viewing you can't scroll down to see the rest. It works fine for all other e-mails I get. Attached is a screen shot showing the screen with the Insreuctable in the preview pane. Thanks Bill Laurin

No longer is there a Best Answer, a Follow, a personal comment Delete and the old click spam to help indicate the what is inappropriate or desirable...This is a sad state of affairs...

In a recent comment to an I'ble (c.f. my feature request for why there's no link here :-), Fungus Amungus noticed a peculiar formatting bug.If you enter multiple underscore characters in sequence, they get collapsed to one, e.g., "_", where I typed e.g., "_____"In order to see all the characters, you have to separate them by spaces, "_ _ _ _ _". That's, different, of course, than a solid line.

I am having trouble with the new design of the front page format of Instructables. Being a Mac and Safari user, it is very disruptive for my top bar google search to jump down into the Instructables (which is set as my home page) search bar. As you can see in the photo, a simple search on Japanese pygmy flying squirrels, turns into burning fits of intense rage (or something like that, haha) I understand why this would be useful for some people, especially people who are visiting the site for the first time. The new design is very smooth and clean and, in my opinion, really nice... except this "search" feature is incredibly bothersome. I know the easy fix would be to just change my home page, but I really don't want to. Is anyone else having the same dilemma? Any ideas?

When I am editing an Instructables draft, the ENTER key 'appears' to work, but after I save it and then view it in preview mode it is not formatted correctly. Every line I created to separate paragraphs completely vanishes. I have tried several times to be sure it wasn't an error on my part. It appears that the New Editor has a bug. This bug prevents me from separating paragraphs and correctly formatting my instructable. Also, if it helps I have recreated the same issue using Safari and Google Chrome. Thanks!

I have been away from Instructables for some time, and I came back, not much has changed after the pro feature was implanted. Which is good. ^^ However, I have a little problem with word formatting, when I tried using some symbols to change the way the words look, they don't work. Is this due to the pro feature? Or am I using the wrong symbles and my memory needs a little refreshing? Thanks! I just chose this picture randomly, I don't know what else to use. :P

So, I've been sending and receiving a bunch of messages lately, and every time I do, all my paragraph formatting gets stripped and my message arrives as an ugly and hard to read block of text. Is there a way to get around this? Does anybody know why this happens? (I wasn't sure where to put this, so I dropped it here. Is there an official area for website questions like this?) ~ Joe, ThePropNerds

I, like many people, got the new Xbox for Christmas. However, my mom failed to notice that it was the 4GB model, rather than the awesome 250GB. When I realized this, I immediately went online and looked for a 250GB Xbox S Hard Drive, and found that they're $130($0.52/GB)! Well I knew that the Xbox can use flashdrives for storage, etc. so it should treat an external hard drive just like a big flashdrive, right? So I went to BestBuy and bought a 500GB external hard drive for $60 ($0.12/GB- 4.3x cheaper!). Upon plugging this into my Xbox, and going through the configuration process, I see that my Xbox is only picking it up as 16GB. "Are you kidding me? There's a lot more than 16GB on that thing!" I went online, and did some Googling, and YouTubing. All I could find was formatting the drive, and even then only being able to transfer movies, music, etc from you computer. I read multiple times that you couldn't put games or profiles on it(I wanted to do this, so I could transfer everything from my old original Xbox 360 HDD, and then sell it). Could somebody please tell me a way to make an external hard drive work with Xbox 360? I'd rather not format anything, but I will if I must. Thank you!

I recently got an old PC from the Salvation Army, and decided to harvest it. Turns out I can use all the parts for a working computer(an old computer running Windows 98 on a Pentium II, but a computer nonetheless). However, it has a 4GB HDD. This threw me off of the idea of reusing it, until I remembered my old original Xbox that I harvested(I do that a lot), and luckily I kept the 80GB HDD from it :D. It has the same old standard PATA and 4-pin Molex power connector as the 4GB. It's just a normal Microsoft HDD(from external appearances). So can I use it as a normal hard drive for my recently obtained old computer, and just format it? Or is there some kind of encryption/coding that makes it only useful for an Xbox?

Ok so we all know its possible to write a dvd+r up to the limit. (one time only of course) So if it can write data once, that why cant we have it ignore the data or headers and just write all 1's or just random garbage to the disk to destory it? It actually sounds cooler than breaking it... If there is software than please provide a link (if its free/open source)

OK, so I've had this Polaroid Model 80A for a long time now, and i don't exactly know how it works. I thought the film type was discontinued, so wasn't any use to me. But I'm really wanting to get into medium format now and my curiosity is demanding some answers about this camera! So... -What film does/did it use? -Does fujifilm make it? -Can i use a different kind a film if I convert it some how? -Is there anything else I should know about this camera? Thanks guys! I really appreciate any info you have to give!

I'm writing a new Instructable using the New Editor, and the formatting on my intro page keeps reverting to an incorrect formatting. I start off with one sentence written in normal text formatting followed by a couple of line breaks. Then, I have the word "INTRO" in Header 3 formatting followed by a line break then a line in italicized normal text. After a short while, the word "INTRO" will change to normal text formatting and the line break will be replaced by a space so that the following italicized normal text line is next to the word "INTRO". I've tried correcting this several times, and it just keeps eventually reverting back to the undesired formatting. I have similar formatting in other parts of my Instructable, but this is the only place I've noticed this change occurring. Before and after pictures are attached.

I spent a lot of time formatting up my instructable to be clear and easily understood. Then, I saved the draft, but when I came back to my draft, none of the changes were there. This appears to be consistent. Try making a draft, format up the text, save it, leave, log back in, and see if the formatting is still there. I'm using MacOS 10.9.3, and Chrome for MacOS, version 35.0.1916.114 The URL I was working on when I noticed this: https://www.instructables.com/editInstructable/edit/EN4U85IHUYLSFIS/step/0 See attached screen shot. All the headings were formatted to H3 headings before I came back to edit this. None of the formatting I added appears to have been saved.

When I add some sourcecode, select it and format it as code from the dropdown menu, it looks all right. But when I later change something in my Instructable, the code gets messed up and I have to write the whole block again. It's really annoying :(

If I want text in an instructable to include characters that normally cause wiki formating magic to happen, how do I quote them ? For instance, if I want to enclose some text in square brackets:[my text](that was done with "preformatted" text. which changes the font and does a "block" at a time. Not what I want!)(couldn't find this in other pages about wiki formatting, either.)

The 2.0 version of Instructables has slightly different formatting than 1.0. We've based it on the wiki used in Edgewall's trac. We like it, and hope you will too. The most useful thing for people is probably links.Example:[https://www.instructables.com/ Instructables]Display:InstructablesThe full formatting documentation is here. Not everything is implemented yet, but we're getting there.

Hello; Several of our instructables have pre-formatted text in them. However recently this text has stopped displayed properly. It has gone from being multiple lines to a single long line. Is this a fixable issue? Examples: https://www.instructables.com/id/S99CDK8FWS6JUQS/ https://www.instructables.com/id/SAXXIILFSH7EDVM/ The Long line after "The Code"

. As you've probably figured out by now, I'm a big fan of Instructables. Great concept, great implementation, and a fantastic community of users. . I do believe, though, that the lack of text formatting options is holding back a lot of contributors and gives a rather drab look to a lot of iBles. . I understand that there are security and abuse issues with all features, but formatting options such as paragraph indent, tabular/columnar data, &c would be appreciated by the authors and would make the site look so much better.

I have a 1.0 GB SD card and im trying to delete the files off of it. When i "delete" them, and plug it into the same thing or something else, their still there. The lock on the card isn't on The files are maked as read-only, so i turn it off, but they go back to read-only any ideas? also: Tried to format it (with windows right-click format), at the end of the formatting it says unable to format

Why is the home page always changing format? It looks more ridiculous every time! I remember when I first joined how their was two collums of different instructables. This format was easy to sort though and you didn't have to look through all the stuff you DIDNT want to see and you could click on the vast variety of things you DID want to see. Today when I logged on there is only one column of things and I cant even sort out what is recent and what is featured. Please change the format back instructables robot. It is a lot simpler and looks more professional. EB

Alright Instructables, I fold. It is with a sense of shame that I must ask: Does Instructables have a method (be a clandestine feature or a workaround) to allow a user to enter formatted math text (ex. summation signs, integrals, greek letters even)? In particular, I was trying to get latex to work (I thought I had seen another user do so once) on the wiki, but thus far my efforts have proved fruitless. Anyone out there know a way to do this?

Recently, for some unknown reason, firefox started displaying the following pages very strangely: lifehacker, io9, and gizmodo. They all have a similar set-up but I can't figure why they don't display correctly. Below is a screenshot of the problem. If further images are needed they can be provided. Any ideas please comment or PM me. Thanks.

I use html to format my list of parts into a table, like this page. Recently the formatting was somehow lost on this page which is a bummer because it took a while to create the html. The page was fine for at least a year. I don't know exactly when the html was lost but I suspect it happened a few weeks ago (October 12th) when I edited a different page on the same instructable. It's possible that I edited the Instructable while my Pro membership was expired. I definitely did not edit the page with the html formatting. OS: Linux Ubuntu 14.10 Browser: Chromium 37.0.2062.120 Is there any chance of reverting that page (or even the Instructable) back to a date before the HTML was stripped out?

My instructable has changed. https://www.instructables.com/id/Electronic-Wart-Removal-8211-No-Blood-Little-/ The step title formatting is not what I entered. I typed in the title but when previewed shows only part of the title with the rest of the title within the text body. It also has extra text, strange characters showing in the preview screen. When the whole step is viewed it looks correct. It's in the quick view (cursor over the step) that the problem shows.

Change the pdf view and print format! Now when you click on the pdf icon (if you want the instrcucable to be viewed in pdf format) in the instructable you have selected, another page opens and you have to click on the pdf name to view/print in the pdf format. i suggest that when you click on the 1st view of the pdf icon, it immediately opens the pdf....therefore one less step!
