Forums ?

Are "forums" now designed to be hard to find ? They're no longer on the top tab. "Quick fixes" was broken - the page linked said that it is an incorrect one, but repeated refresh seems to fix it.

How are forums organized?

I think there is a lot of good information within the Forum section of the site, but I have not been able to figure out if there is any particular organization to it.  I do fine when I click on Forum, then there is a list of topics, or divisions, alphabetically arranged.  But click on one of those topics, and it seems there is no order or organization at all.  There are buttons for:post, posts and topics, topics, featured, etc, but clicking on them doesn't seem to alter much, if anything?  It would be nice if things were arranged either: alphabetically, numerically, by author, by date, by topic, etc.  Or am I missing something (which is very possible, I admit...) Any help and or enlightenment would be appreciated, thank you.

Other Great DIY Forums???

Dear DIY Fans of the instructables Community, I discovery this Forum early 2016 and I have posted 3 DIY Projects so far. I have never gotten so much positive feedback upon my DIY stuff anywhere in the internet.  I have a recently finished a huge Project about a motorized "DIY Camera Slider" and I can`t wait to share it on this platform. But with my latest video I had to realise that some projects won`t get much attention, no matter how much time you spend producing it.  I would really like to share it on various platforms or websites, and I hope some of you could drop a few DIY Forums here. Everything from Facebook pages to DIY Websites, where you can post your stuff, would be very interesting for me. Thank you very much in advance for your answer, Rideable Entertainment

Go Go Gadget Forums!

I want to be Inspector Gadget for Halloween this year, replete with a bunch of cool Go Go Gadgets. I was wondering if any of you have some ideas or suggestions. What I'm really looking for are plans for exploding messages, extendable hands, and maybe even a hat umbrella or helicopter (non-functional, obviously).

Forum topics that go nowhere

Has anyone noticed some forum topics look like by Grampa Simpson rambling?  They are usually by new members, and I often flag them as spam,  they often look like this....... But less funny We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones. Three wars back we called Sauerkraut "liberty cabbage" and we called liberty cabbage "super slaw" and back then a suitcase was known as a "Swedish lunchbox." Of course, nobody knew that but me. Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

War Forum, Settle Disputes.

I think we should have a Forum topic dedicated to settling disputes, to prevent them from spilling over into neutral topics. If a squabble breaks out, it can be moved here (in the created topic) so that it does not disrupt other territories. Interventions or reparations could be made in the topic. What do you think, any ideas?I don't really want to be the creator of this topic, but I will if I have too. EDIT: The War Zone has been terminated. This is what The War Zone looked like:Welcome to the Hidden War Zone. Here you can settle disputes with other members privately, without disrupting the rest of the community. This Idea was thought up in the wake of the Skate/ Coolz War. Every once and a while, two or more members feud with each other. As this site retains a friendly image, other members detest the violence that ensues. Eventually these feuds move from each other's orangeboards into the public forums, dragging other members into the conflict. In order to avoid this, I have created a war zone that is sheltered from the public eye. Think of it as fighting in a barren field as opposed to a populated city. If you're going to fight, at least try to limit the number of civilian casualties. When the dust settles, truces, reparations, and atonements can take place. When you are done, please visit the Peace Forum. You must war either two ways:Chaotically battle in the comments.orKeep differing disputes separated by steps. (ie. Step one: Goodhart vs. Kiteman. Step two, Adrian Monk vs KK, Skate. et al.)If you do add a step, please hit "save and finish later" or "finish later". This will keep the War Zone hidden. If you must fight, do it here.I truly hope this will never be used, but I've made it as a precaution. Send me a PM if you wish to be a collaborator.~Spl1nt3rC3llShall we play a game? Goodhart, nachomama, or kiteman should get this.

Forum topic not showing in forum

Is there a delay between posting a forum topic, and when it actually shows  up? I just posted this question: https://www.instructables.com/community/I-am-confused-Conflicting-emails/ I can see the individual topic, it exists in the breadcrumbs at the top it says it is in the  help: contests forum but if you click those breadcrumbs, the topic does not appear in the forum. It exists all by itself, if you have a direct link. but it does not exist in the category so I can't see how anyone would ever see it. Are threads screened or something before they will appear in their  category?

forked threads and linear threads

Hi. It's about how are organized threads into forums. Currently forum threads are forked : you can reply to a comment separately, and each of your reply will make a new fork if somebody reply to your new comment ... this makes threads like trees ... Personally, I don't find this system very handy, more particularly when the same thing is being actively discussed in several forks. This system is good for short chats and when commenting instructables, but when it's about debating, it quickly becomes confusing ... For the forums, I'd prefer a system with a linear thread where messages are ordered according to time, and where we have to quote the persons we want to reply to. Several discussion could get "multiplexed" on the same thread, but personally, I find that less confusing as long as there are quotes. What's your preference ?

Excellent Forum, Glad I Joined

I just recently joined as a Pro member, but I've received a lot out of Instructables over the years. The last "prank" instructable that I participated in were those cell phone zappers. I don't know what kind of experience or success rate other members had with this, but I just wanted to die laughing at times when in stores, doctors offices, etc..., and someone would either call or receive a call, and 'ye olde zapper' went into action, and I'd estimate a good 90+% of the time, the call was terminated very shortly because of a dropped [or loss of] signal. My unit was rigged  up in a book, so it was really drew no attention.

"preview" in this forum "saves"

When reporting this bug and editing the Topic multiple times, I saw there is a "preview" button when doing changes. I expect this button to Show a preview and then a "save". But it saved immediately. I am truly amazed I find 4 Bugs in my first day of using this Feedback forum. Whoa.

How long before posts appear in the forum?

How long does it usually take for a post to show up in the forums?  I posted a question to the bugs forum two days ago and it still hasn't shown up.  Is this a "feature" of a non-pro account?  I'm posting this at 9:40 am UTC on 26 February.  I'd like to know when the first person sees this so I have some idea how long it languishes unposted.

No categories available when posting a forum topic

I just tried to post a new topic in the Forums, and I cannot select a category. I get the "Choose one:" and the "----------------", but no actual categories. Consequently, I cannot post the topic. I'm in FF3 on WinXP. LinuxH4x0r tested it for me and it worked for him, using FF in OS X.

Why Are Old Forum Topics Always Showing Up In the RSS Feed?

I realise it is because when someone comments on them/edits the page, but why do I have to keep seeing repeats every five minutes?

Forum Topics Never Post

I've recently posted to the forums: https://www.instructables.com/community/My-Developments/ It does not get posted to the specified forum; however, if I search under my profile I do see it has been made "public" in a way. I've had this problem years ago and was told I was most likely caught by the filter robot-something-mer-other.. So.. I'd like to ask if I can be white listed or cleared. It is very frustrating, especially when I eventually do make an instructable I always have to ask to be cleared for it to show on the site.

Forum eats replies

I've seen it happening before, and it's happening again for me now: I can't reply to certain forum posts even though they have a reply button. My reply just gets eaten and doesn't post; the page reloads and everything I've typed is gone, the page looks as if I've just opened that forum thread. An example is the latest posting on the thread about international entries in contests: I can't reply to the user from Taiwan who is asking whether s/he can enter. There is no error message or anything. This is frustrating and makes me not want to use the forums anymore. If it helps: I'm using SeaMonkey on XP. Can anyone enlighten me? Edited to add: it looks like I can't even post a new message (this one). I keep ending up on a blank page. I gave it several tries but it didn't work... then, ten minutes later, it worked.

We are LIVE!!! - Knex Flux - General purpose Knex forum

Knex Flux is live now, you can visit it here: http://knexflux.net So, I randomly had that idea and Sandro likes it too and stuff, so yeah, is there any demand for a general-purpose knex forum uniting all the parts of the knex community under one hood? Of course such a forum would need people who actually use it, thus me asking if it would be used ^.^ I could do the hosting, I know my way around such stuff :) This would be in particular good for sharing progress, which isn't really possible on instructables, sharing small projects you don't think are worth a whole new instructable, helping others out and of course all just having a fun time together!

Embed Instructable videos on internet foruns

Hi there! Being a huge fan of instructables.com and also the administrator of internet forum about Mercedes-Benz trasnsformed vans, I would like to know if it is possible to have a way to post the videos available for blogs and sites also on foruns. I tried it with BBcode but being not very used to programing gave no luck. I've checked with the support team of the forum and they mentioned "BBCode/HTML replacement" that is not available, If it would be, embeding would be easy... What do you have to say about this? Thanks in advance! :) Regards

Would any one be interested in...

Another new knex forum? I know we have KI but I really just need to be working on a forum right now. I'm not trying to like have revenge on KI (I don't even have a reason) but I just don't care for it. They're moving at a snails pace. Sure I won't be able to get a payed host (is it even worth it for knex?) but I don't really think a domain name maters all in all. What you'll have right away if I do start it is. -A front page with details like new posts, latest polls, and of course the Xat chat right there. -I'll probably find some sort of cool style instead of the default. You'll still have a choice in case you're one of those weird people who likes blue, white, and grey. -I'm hoping to have the karma mod installed right away which will basically be rep -I'll hopefully implement a ranking system using knex pieces as images. -I'll have a handful of bbcodes ready such as a spoiler code that you click on a button to unhide whatever you choose to put in it and a youtube code in which all you need is the video ID. There will be others. -I'll have more forums than just knex. I'll still keep the common theme but y'know I think everyone should be able to make a topic in a variety of categories other than "misc." -I don't know basically I'll be taking requests which I usually answer within the week they are posted. If it's a new forum topic that you want then I'll usually add it if it isn't a stupid idea. I'm hoping to add later on a cash and shop system although I'm not sure how soon that will be. Mods will be payed. I'll pick out a good few mods to work the forums for me. You won't need any real exp. all you need is to have good grammar (get firefox! it's a must!) and be active. So will anyone actually go to it if I make it? Please any loyal KIers don't find this as any more of aggression against you. Like I said I just really didn't like your forum and I want to make a forum so I figured I might as well make my own. Alright so if I get at least 5 approvals then I'll make it. It's a lot of work starting out so I might not do it if I end up not getting too far in a limited amount of time. Hopefully I'll have a friend helping me out but if not then it might be slow starting out. I really want to get us a good place to migrate to without being forced to KI. I know some people don't really care for it but I promise I'll try making this place better for those people. I'm not saying that this will be any better than KI but it is another option if people want me to do it. Once again KIers I don't want to start anything so don't think of this as a competition or anything I'm just giving everyone else the option.

Question about the New Editor that is driving me crazy: ''since I seem to have all the ODDball problems with the forums :-) ...''

For the past week or so, I have posted a few times that I was having difficulties bringing up the "new" editor. It would error out. I "believe" I have traced it to one of the old greaseMonkey scripts I have installed (I have one installed for IE, and one for FF, which also serves Flock. It seems to be the only thing that has been changed (except for the newest upgrade of FF) that could be causing the problem. (there is another thing being caused; if I do a "comment" search, the comments come up that are found, for about 2 seconds, then they are turned into blank boxes *shrug*). Is there a procedure to "uninstall" the scripts, or will deleting them fix it?

Spamers and spam instructables

Today i have noticed we have had an influx of spam instructables/advertisments etc.. Are the filters not picking them up on registration? Since reporting every single instructable can be tedious and long winded, would it be possible to have a 'report ' button on someones profile... Take for example one of the more recent prolific spam annoyances: https://www.instructables.com/member/lewis213/ he has multiple posts so a 'report' button would come in very handy. I try and report ibles as i catch them... this may make it easier for serial offenders such as the above example Cheerio Biggsy
