Tell me what games you play
Posted by ryan knexer 11 years ago | last reply 7 years ago
We all get bored at some point, right? Or we just want to slack off from school or work. So we play games we call flash games. Some of them completely suck, while some could have been sold for a price and been insanely successful (might be exaggerating a bit there). My point is what are some of your favorites? Personally I liked The Last Stand, Unreal Tournament, Tanks, and I can't remember any more right now...

I think it's a great idea, but I wouldn't even know where to get started on the technical aspect, nor the legalities involved. The game is basically a walk through an instructables-inspired home-built city of interesting devices and systems all loosely (or even exactly!) based on actual instructables. During the games as you explore you stumble on different tasks that you have to complete. You find parts to complete tasks scattered about the city, or win them for completing smaller tasks. Thoughts?

In the late '50's Popular Electronics magazine (out of print) published an article "building a rudimentary computer" It was called the Challenger. It was a circuit that could play the old parlor game of "21", and utilized a mechanical stepping relay to do the "computing". There was a series of 21 pilot lamps, with a 'player' and 'machine' pushbuttons. The player, and the machine, in turn, could light 1, 2, or 3 lamps, with the object being to avoid lighting the last, or 21st lamp. The machine would invariably win. The secret is that within the number 21 there are five groups of 4, with one left over. Whatever number the player selects, (1, 2, or 3) the machine then selects a number that, when added to the players choice, totals 4. (player 1, mach. 3 / player 2, mach 2/ player 3, mach. 1) It would seem that today's processors and LED's, could handle this task easily. Would you, or someone you know, be interested in designing such a circuit as a project? I built it back then but I'm afraid my knowledge is stuck back in that time and would need instructions remenicient of that era.

I've been looking online recently for some sort of "glove" that you would wear for gaming, instead of having a keyboard. Didnt really find anything.. at least in my price range. So i am going to get the Makey Makey tomorrow from a trade with a friend, i figured this was my best bet. My idea for this glove would be that it have either foil on the tips or that sewing yarn that can be used as wire. There would be a thin Aluminum Sheet that you would tap with the appropriate finger. The aluminum sheet would act as the ground. My other idead would be instead of having the Aluminum Sheet have the tech yarn in the palm of your hand, but this would get uncomfortable after time. I want to make this so i could possibly in the future have two gloves one for each hand. Also, if i was to use the special yarn for electronics, i would have to wear to gloves since the yarn would weave in and out of the glove grounding to your finger. Most likely going to be working on this tomorrow or as soon as i can get some cheap gloves. I'll upload pictures then. any suggestions?

Hi I am making a pokemon game in Game maker 8 Pro Version. I am hopeless at scripting with the GML ( with other types of scripting as well ). I can make the backgrounds but I have no Idea on how to make the battle scenes. So if you go into the grass it chooses a random number between one and 5 and if it is 1 a pidgey will apear 2 a caterpie will appear etc. etc etc.. Then Also the EXP and Health the PP and the pokemon attack moves themselves. I guess what I'm trying to ask is : Does anyone know what I should do ? Thanks Nathan

Does anyone remember the old game from LEGO, Stormrunner? Where you have to control an RCX to discover what happened to your ship. Well, I just noticed it was kicked of lego.com, and started googling trying to find it. No other site has it, does anyone know where it is.... Or does anyone think that Lego should bring it back?

I'm probably the last person you should go to for game advice, but I'll try. If I don't have the answers you seek, I'll tell you a place where you can find those answers. If you need cheats, I'll see if I can find them. I check to answer your questions every Saturday. If you think you're an expert on a certain game and your willing to give advice leave a comment saying so on my orangeboard.

I know there are instructions all over the internet on how to do this but as far as i can tell the instructions are without the original disk, if i have the original disk is there a way to download all the information to the computer so that i can launch the game from a folder? a way that doesn't make punkbuster (EA games) kick me if i play online. essentially i want a digital disk so i can use the original as a backup and i won't have to worry about my family removing my disks and destroying them (they tend to leave disks anywhere they can put them down). As a random note im always worried that when transfering my disk from the case to the drive that something will happen as in the past i have been pushed and i dropped the disk, it landed on an uneven surface and someone stepped on in breaking it.

Just had an idea for simple to play but complex to build battleship game. If i had the money and resources to build it myself i would. So i just thought i would share the idea and see if anyone else is interested in making it. Basically the target and ship fields will be made from a large pin board for LEDs to plug into. The Ship field of one player will be wired to the target field of the other player. So when an LED is plugged into the target field and there is an LED plugged into the same spot on the opposing player's ship field the target LED completes the circuit lighting both LEDs indicating a hit. No need to call out coordinates and can be a good game for the hearing impaired. The LEDs for the ship can be placed onto sets of header pins. It would take allot of LEDS to make but would be an interesting game. 234 total LEDs are needed 34 of which will be used to create the ships. each player get 100 LEDs for shots (less then 100 are actually needed to complete a game. peg board could be made from old IDE female headers. Board should be marked with line indicating negative side of the connections. Negative side of LEDs should be visibly marked to help the user determine the right way to plug them in.

We have been having a bit of a clear out & been selling a few bits on eBay but before I listed this I thought I had better have a go at confirming my idea as to what it is actually for. My better half & I picked it up with a bunch of other stuff when we had our pub, it had no box, instructions or anything else with it & to tell the truth it has sat on various shelves gathering dust ever since. I think it is a connect four type game but I have had various suggestions made with other theories varying from some sort of score counter to an indoor bowling kind of like thing?!?!?!?! Maybe?????! Duh? I have had a bit of a browse around the interweb & found nothing; I looked on the Remy Martin web site, again nothing. As there is nothing in the pictures to give any scale I will say the box is a little over 11 inches long & 8.5 inches high when opened it has a total of 34 balls 17 each of dark & light wood & a tray at the bottom of the slots which releases the balls when removed. So what do all you clever people have to say about it? I am open to ideas & theories but what I would really like is some sort of evidence to back your ideas up.

Is there any way I can power these two items with a battery? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Everyone loves video games. And most everyone loves social change. So, video games for social change.... a sure winner! If you're in New York City next week, be sure to check out the Games for Change Conference. It's hosted by Parsons School of Design, the greatest school on the planet (I might be biased).

A total of 342 gamers dressed as icons from games such as Final Fantasy, Zelda and Solid Snake in east London as part of the London Games Festival. They narrowly broke a record of 337 set last week in Germany.Festival director Duncan Best said: "It was a bit touch-and-go for a while but the gaming community really stepped up to the challenge."The record was verified by Guinness World Records at the Excel Centre in Docklands on Saturday.A further 50 fans in fancy dress could not take part, however, as rules stated that characters who were primarily famous from movies were disqualified."So we had people turning up dressed as Lego Batman, for example, who could not be counted," said Mr Best. Get your details right, BBC! We all know Batman is most famous from the TV show...Still, it would have been nice to see the Lego Batman costume.BBC StoryLondon Games FestivalGuinness World Records

I've been recently getting into retro gaming, and I've noticed a lot of things, like bits. I know more bits means better graphics, but what is bits a measure of? I've also noticed how they go. It's by a power of 2, Like this: 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128 etc. Lastly, what was the Atari 2600's?

I need a game engine simaler to, or exactly the same as The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Majoras Mask, Wind Waker, And both versions of Twilight Princess, my plan is to modify , and combine them into a better engine, if not i will make my own from scratch that will be almost the same, but i figure it will be easier to combine the existing engines, than to write one from scratch

For the last four/five months, I've been on the search for a site selling a large number of airsoft replica guns. By that, I mean replicas from games, movies, etc. Specifically, Halo. I lack the time, resources, money, skill, and tools to build one myself, and can't seem to find any site no matter what search engine I use. Any help would be very greatly appreciated!

I was thinking of making a lego based rpg or some other game(like a strategy game). That will comprise of some basic rules and game workings that every one could play. I'm going to try and make it simple enough to be played easily but complex enough to keep people interested. I will also try to make sure that gaming equipment is kept to a minimum. So you don't need to go out and buy like a 100, 20 sided dice or something. If anyone is interested in helping or testing please say so. I could use all the help i could get. Please say if this is a bad idea though- i don't want to waste my time on it.

So everyone and their grandma has posted and made articles for how to make a "universal game system" that emulates the actual hardware of a console on something like a raspberry pi. But my question is this: is it plausible/possible to create your own, unique, personal gaming console? I mean something that doesn't emulate, but rather is an entirely different system (not an NES or Sega, it's a "You-console"!). I understand some criticisms for this: "Why re-invent the wheel? Or at least the console...", "This is too complicated...", "You're stupid" and etc. etc. My reasoning for this is this: Why not? Heck, what a niffty thing to have under your belt to say "Hey, I developed my own game system and make my own games for it! I'm cool!" So what do you guys think? Is it possible? Has someone done it? If not, you guys have any pointers on what to do? I'd like to do it, but I'm not too electronically edj-imukated. Maybe it'll be something I tackle in the future, but I'd like your input first! :)

Ok, one of my idea for a current project is to recreate my own model/version of the game pod out of the David Cronenberg film eXistenZ.If your unfamilar, see the pics and video - Essentially the 'game pod' is a biological virtual reality games console. And i must say i am a fan of the film. Now, i need some help, both with ideas, and with build methods.Ideas- I require an idea as the the use of the device - eg, an external hdd enclosure, a wallet, what ever.- I Have a base that im going to use, in the form of a beach stone. So the size is 125mm x 125mmMethods- Although i have a base 'stone' i need to sculpt a little extra, to make the nodule like bits. and genrally curve the shape a bit, what can i use? would bondo do? and whats the UK equilivent?- I want to have a silicon like finish, like the film, i was planning liquid latex, is that a good idea? what else is there thats better?I would appreciate any help anyone can give.ThanksGmjhowe

A couple of friends and I are planning on making our own Video Game. I thought it would be cool to ask others for ideas. Our game is a mixed genre (we are attempting to put as many game types into one as possible, but still keeping it somewhat reasonable) sci fi game based a couple hundred years into the future. Humans have colonized mars, but their is a war between the two planetary alliances. Meanwhile there is an underground organization that controls everything going on in human society. They prepare for the return of the true martian race who left behind some ancient relics which were discovered and kept a secret. The main character is a super soldier created by the underground society. You unite the human race and fight against the aliens. We have story ideas but would like to hear ideas from other people. All suggestions are welcome. Suggestions could include, but are not limited to: Characters Events Weapons Technology Genre types Plot ideas and twists Side missions One other thing is that we were thinking that the aliens could be human based, and be like a sub-species of humans. Yes or No? Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks to all who help.

I'm not sure now if this is even possible after surfing a whole day and haven't found a thing. What I want to do is to somehow change the shapes of electrodes of what the black graphicks of oldschool lcd games are made of. Are there some sort of chemicals whitch can erase old graphics and something to draw the new ones connected to old connections. Or are they cut out some magnetic transparency film. Well, if somebody has a clue where I could find few hints to get started I would be grateful.

I have recently started playing Magic: The Gathering, and was looking to get a Playmat, I would like to make one because I don't want to spend a ton on a mat, I was wondering if anyone had any links to a tutorial on how to make a portable one from scratch for under $5? In case you don't know what they are, here is a link to some ( http://sales.starcitygames.com/category.php?t=a&cat;=5090 ) Thanks.

We will see how this works out, I do this with my friends and it gets funny. Instructions: I will start with one word. If we were doing this in person it would be on a piece of paper. That paper is passed to the person next to him. That person writes a word, any word, and passes the paper on. This is repeated, and will form into: A. a funny paragraph B a totally random paragraph that makes no sense C a paragraph that tells an epic story that is the next "Hamlet" and makes perfect sense (That's no fun though) You can choose to end a sentence and start a totally new one anywhere Keep it appropriate. Example Cheese coated birds dance on top of my (*gasp*will it be appropriate?) head. Your pet cookie ate my cat. Here is the word: Why Oh, I forgot to say, add everything prier to your word into your comment (to avoid confusion and if you do that you can avoid a ton of replies to you that you will regret by just hitting post comment and not reply).
