Hydrogen Generators

Does anyone know how to test for output quantity of HHO gas from a Hydrogen Generator when connected to a vacuum such as your intake manifold? The output is easy to test when just checking with a submerged bottle with the generator running on its own without being hooked to a vacuum source. The generator will put out substantially more volume under vacuum than when not. How do you check for output volume when under vacuum? Pylgram

Mini-generator? Answered

I was sitting here today wondering how could an electric car with a gas generator possibly be useful, then it hit me.  I could add a gas powered generator to an RC car to give it the ability to fill up and run again without the need to charge a battery.  The idea was brilliant so I went out looking for a platform to use.  I decided on a traxxas E-Maxx.  It has a lot of space to build on, and it is a pretty awesome truck.  I decided I would leave the batteries in the equation and they would be sustained by the generator.  Now, what on EARTH DO I USE FOR A GENERATOR that doesn't cost as much as the motor itself.

New generator

I am thinking about buying a small generator for in around the house uses ( like charging things as power tools, phones, laptops)  Because I live in a house with no power and running water.  I have done some searching and found this one( Eurom GE720 benzine generator 63cc aggregaat 720 W) to be the easiest to obtain, fast shipping, cheap and it would do the trick. Now I wonder if I would need some sort of power stabilizer or UPS to prevent power peeks from destroying my precious devices. I am new to this stuff... always had the luxury of plugs in the wall so not sure what I need and where to buy it and more importantly, how do I use a stabilizer or UPS correctly Eurom GE720 benzine generator 63cc 720 W

Waveform Generator

Hi guys! So actually i wanted to make a circuit that can turn on and off an LED array at a particular rate (say 10 seconds time period). I want the LEDs to gradually brighten and dim. At first i thought i can implement it using a multi vibrator, but it it turning off and on too fast, since the output of the MV is a square wave. I want to design a simple circuit that can generate more slowly rising waveform (like sine or triangular) and can also drive a load of at least 100 mA and have a time period of 10 seconds or so. Any suggestions?

BIKE GENERATOR?!

Hey, I'm much more of a mechanical guy than an electrical one, and yeah, I'm trying to be won over, but I think this project might help me bridge the gap if I can get it rolling. what do you guys think about buying maybe six or so friction light generators and disconnecting the lights, putting two on the front wheel, four on the rear, (they rub on the side of the tire) and wiring them all together to produce a power source? like I said, I'm horrible with electrical stuff- maybe you could even build a larger generator like I saw in another instructable, but do you think it'd be possible to either create a car-adaptor-style outlet, or even a functioning regular power outlet with that idea? what about an electric bike that charges itself while pedal in that sense? talk to me people!

Ozone generator

I noticed there is no usuable Intructable that I could find for a homemade Ozone generator. Ozone can be used for many things - if used correctly. Commercial Air - Water Pruifiers use it, you can get rid of harmful pesticide and chemical residue while cleaning your salad or "clean" the air after a big party with a lot of smokers. Since the basic design and work priciple is more than easy I was wondering if there is a need for an Instructable? But with Ozone not only being of concern for the enviroment in terms of smog but also being a health risk in higher concentrations I am not so sure if it is a good idea. After all we don't want to cause any harm with our projects...

Vandergraph generator

I am interested in building a small  vandergraph generator.  I am thinking this will certainly be no taller then 2ft and likely closer to 1ft.  I understand the general principal of how it works and this should be a good first voltage project that I should have everything I need for.  What has been holding me back for quite some time is that I could not come up with a decent belt for the inside.  But I read on the forums I think that leather is a good belt to use (or human skin).  This seems very odd to me and maybe I am missing something but is this really a good thing to use as a belt?  It would be nice because I could cut it as wide and long as I need and then sew it into a belt with some thread.  I happen to have some leather laying around from some crafting I have been working on.   Then as long as I am making this thread I was wondering what the best "tube" would be that the belt runs in.  I had considered making a plexi glass tube with hot glue to hold it together.  I think it could be cool to have a see through setup.  But I want this to work as well as I can get it.  So if a different material would work better I am open to suggestions. Also I will try my best to find my camera and post step by step photos once I know what the heck I am doing.

electic generator

I have not made this yet, but my idea is building an electric generator using a bicycle wheel surrounded by a non turning metal frame. Tightly backed on the bicycle wheel would be permanent magnets arranged in a slant pointing in the same diection and outward toward the surrounding frame. On the frame would again be permanent magnets wrapped with copper wire slanting inward toward the bicycle wheel. The magnets facing each other would have like poles. North facing north or south facing south. I know this is just like an electric motor so far. You would get the electricity from the arrangement by placing a thin copper stip on the top of the frame. But different from the motor is the idea that like poles repel. once you gave the wheel a slight movement in the same direction that the magnets slant the wheel would turn until the magnetic energy would exhaust. You could make strong magnets using rebar wrapped in copper wire and use a inverter to change the AC in your house to DC and connect the current to the copper wire surrounding the rebar. Then when the magnetism of the rebar is sufficiently strong cut the rebar using a hack saw into small pieces to place in either the bicycle wheel or metal frame surrounding the wheel, I'm not sure of the electric power dynamics you could produce, but it would seem that using strong enough magnets could make a generator that could power as large a device with amperage/volts you can create. It might be used as a device to run your furnace blower or refrigerator in an emergency if the power produced was high enough. I think this would all depend on the strength of the magnets you produce. But if it works-you could have electric power from the magnets as an alternative to batteries or gas driven generators.

EMP generator

Back in the late 50's the Heathkit company had a "build-it-yourself" radio kit based on the early TRF (tuned radio frequency) radio. For you younger guys, these radios were not superhetrodyne like our modern radios where one only has to rotate a single knob to change stations. With the TRF one had to tune each stage of amplification to the frequency of the desired radio station. At any rate, I bought one of these kits when I was in the Air Force and found, quite by accident, that if I tuned to a radio station that one of my buddies was listening to in the barracks, and then detuned slightly, I could jam his radio. Drove him nuts! But the best part came later when, on one weekend I looked out of the barracks window and, lo and behold! there was a guy washing his car while listening to his radio. Ha! So, I got out my trusty TRF, found the frequency the car radio was tuned to - AND JAMMED IT! Today, that guy is still wondering what the hell was wrong with that radio. I never tested at what range I could jam radio channels, but the car was a good 100 feet away. Now, this device will work with AM radios but not with FM, unfortunately (not without a lot of modification of the TRF).

Solar "Generator"

Since I've always wanted to do something like this and I found this site, it's about to happen! I found a smaller version with what I wanted to do at Popular Science but I want to do something on a larger scale. I do have some questions though that I'm hoping someone can answer or point me in the correct direction.I'm going to describe what I'm doing with what and what I have questions with.I'm going to be buying this solar panel and charge controller kit. Sunforce Solar Panel With Charge ControllerA deep cycle 115 AMP Hour 12 V marine battery from Wal-Mart with Plastic Battery caseSalvaged wood Toy BoxMeter Question: How to meter how many amp hours I have left or how charged the battery is? What kind of meter to buy? Where? (not too expensive <20 bucks or so) how to hook it up.A 12 V accessory outlet with on off switch Question: I'm putting an inline fuse before the switch, 15A the line fuse goes on the + (positive) side correct?A 700 Watt 6.25 AMP DC to AC converter with 4 outlets connected to it. Question: can I put a breaker or fuse between the 4 outlets I'm going to be plugging into on the outside and the plug being plugged into the DC to AC converter? If so how?USB ports for charging with on off switch. Question: how do I convert the 12V to 5V in an easy way? I've seen some creative ideas on here for charging VIA salvaged USB ports but I don't want to have to hook it up to my power inverter if I don't have to. Cooling/ventilation for the entire thing. Any ideas how I might cool/vent it? Currently I'm thinking of using old computer fans and put them on both sides of the toy box and have 2 blowing and 2 blowing out. Having the fans run off of the solar panel during the day and either have a switch to change it to battery at night (if it's too warm in the house) or maybe photo sense it? Temp sensor to turn it on and off? Or a switch to turn it off completely. I'm just looking for idea's to keep the battery (and to expand to be more than one battery) cool/ventilated. If you have examples or detailed description on how to do it that'd be great. I'm not one to steal ideas so I'll credit the idea's I'm given if I use them =)I'm going to see how much I can run off of this and how long. Hopefully save some big time energy also! Thanks all!

Can I generate power from with a generator installed on my water pipes?

Every time I flush the toilet, have a shower, wash the dishes, I think to myself... what a waste of water flow energy. I'm no electronics expert, but I figure connecting a 12 volt dc pump (like a boat bilge pump or something off the hardware store shelf) backwards inline (when I say inline... I mean no leaks... and just operates whenever I use water day to day) with the water supply to my house could generate a little top up trickle to some batteries along with a little solar & wind electricity generation project. Then I think, hang on, as soon as I hook the pump up to a battery... it will just try to pump water back out of my hot water tank house back down the pipe... so looking for ideas here? Anyone out there had a play with this concept?

Frictionless generator for a bicycle? Answered

Right now I have a 12 volt 5 amp Werker lead acid battery powering lights, cell chargers, gps, and a few other gadgets.  When I go on long trips I take the batter charger with me to charge the battery with a wall charger.  The wall charger is heavy and unnecessary if i could find a way to harness the power I generate when I pedal.   i have seen plenty of generators which generate electricity by physically touching a dynamo to the tire but there must be a way to do it inductively, with no friction.  What if I covered the wheel with hard drive magnets and ran them all past a coil on the frame?  I know magnets going past coils will make electricity but not about rectifiers and capacitors and etc.  How could I make this? Thank you
