Where to buy PVC Piping in Germany

Hi, I'm trying to source some PVC piping in Germany, the fairly thin type that seems to be used in a lot projects on here. I've tried my local Baumarkt, Obi, and while the have some rather thick grey piping of the type that's used for plumbing, it's not really suitable for what I want, and the range of connectors is not ver comprehensive. Could anyone let me know of a supplier for this stuff that would deliver to Germany? Thanks for reading!

Shipping options to germany

Hello, maybee someone can help me :-)We want to order several DecTop computers( https://store.dataevolution.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DT%2D7001&CartID;=2 )to germany, and they offer only airmail.shipping costs will be taxed here too, the shipping equals tow thirds of the units costs :-(Can anyone name a way to ship multiple devices (~5lbs packed idd guess) to germany?Shipping speed is no issue at all, so it could be delivered by ship, bike or dove. The usps site was very confusing since every link regarding additional information forwarded me to a table of contens with no relation to the term I was looking for.

Instructables authors in UK, Germany and thereabout

I'm looking to identify Instructables authors that live in the UK, Germany and the regions thereabout. I can name of a handful of you folks off the top of my head, but if you live in these areas, would you leave a comment here? Reason why: Our Instructables/Autodesk Public Relations and Brand Partnerships people are looking to unearth some great Instructables content from these regions. The goal is to connect with these authors and then tell their stories to regional media. (Kind of like this: http://www.7x7.com/culture/we-wanna-be-friends-eric-johnston-aka-batman).  You could leave a boring comment like "I live in Germany" . . . or you could do that and enlighten anyone that happens to stumble across this post by answering the always-interesting question: Why do you make things? Thanks in advance!! Sam, aka seamster

Report: Mini Maker Faire The Netherlands

Saturday Oct. 20th was a big day in Groningen, NL. The first official Maker Faire on Europe's mainland was a reality (Mini Maker Faire to be honest, it lasted just one day...). Allarrrd, Masynmachien and me teamed up to host an Instructable based workshop for kids which we named Make: toys. Lieve, Monster-Marit, Rick and Sander joined the team to help out. masynmachien also demonstrated his Instructable-plugging RC Blimp: iblesblimpMMF050 from masynmachien on Vimeo. And help we needed: The day was a huge success with 3000 maybe more visitors and a very enthusiastic crowd. 52 Doodlebots360 were built by kids (we ran out of battery clips :-)), dozens of cartesian divers, Shampoo Dino's, Magic Fleas, Propellers on a stick and what not. In the same time, we tried to plug Instructables into the consciousness of the visitors. I was a bit shocked to find out that some people never visited the site before :-).  We used mainly scrapheap stuff to make the toys from. Some essential parts were generously sponsored by Opitech and Okaphone. Compiling: We had a great day, as well as the visitors. Making and playing with toys while meeting lots of people. Maker Faire Forever!

Mauser C96

Greetings, So, ever since I saw Chuunibyou, I've wanted to try my hand on a Mauser C96. Once again, it's a model, based heavily on Aug5om3's version. I built his one, then changed the handle, trigger and shortened the barrel a bit. The handle is a bit less sturdy than I like, but it looks pretty IMO, though the front of it could use some more curving. It features: - a comfortable handle - charging handle - moving hammer - pretty good looks I'm not entirely happy with it, but as I have plans for other builds, I decided to take some photos to share, and then take it apart. Posted it as a forum topic, as it isn't original enough to warrant a full slideshow. Tell me what you think in the comments!

FIFA Day 3 Group D results

The world cup continues with ever so exciting games. Here are the results for group D: Game 1 Ghana 1- Serbia 0 Gyan 85th minute Game 2 Australia 0- Germany 4                       Podolski                       8th minute                       Klose                       26th minute                       Mueller                       68th minute                      Cacau                      70th minute  personal thoughts on game 1 An amazingly close game. if it wasn't for that penalty it would've been a tie. Not much more as i didn't get to see the whole game. personal thoughts on game 2 Watching my country lose was heartbreaking. I think the coach and the team made some bad choices. First of all, The coach should have put more players in defense. Also the team should have done shorter passes. almost every time they did a long pass the ball ended up in German feet. Another thing is that they should have attacked instead of waiting ten seconds before attacking. The last thing is that they should have run faster. The German team played amazingly well considering their injured players. I have always thought of Germany as one of the best soccer teams in the world. They have once again proven that they deserve being in the top 10. If Australia doesn't pass the group stages I'll be cheering for Germany. Good luck Aussies and Germans! Please comment about the teams and games.

Countries allowed to participate contests

Contest rules says: "THE CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO NATURAL PERSONS WHO, AT THE TIME OF ENTRY, ARE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF THE SITE, WHO ARE AT LEAST FOURTEEN (14) YEARS OLD (FIFTEEN [15] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF NORWAY AND EIGHTEEN [18] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF GERMANY), AND ARE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES (INCLUDING THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BUT EXCLUDING PUERTO RICO), CANADA (EXCLUDING THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA), UNITED KINGDOM, AUSTRALIA, BELGIUM, CHINA, THE NETHERLANDS, COLOMBIA, DENMARK, GERMANY, INDIA, NORWAY, OR SWITZERLAND." So, I just want to ask, why citizens of Poland cannot participate to contests? I'm sure, there a lot Polish, who made something nice and would show his/her project in that way. Poland is in EU, NATO, it is not so bad country (until you live there, eh). Our politicians sucks, thats a fact, but there are a lot creative young people, let them show, what they can. Regards. p.

Can I participate in your contests?

Sorry for my English, I don't use it very often. I'm from Europe, from Spain and I love your web, but I don't know if I can participate in your constest. I have read the new rules: "Eligibility. THE CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO NATURAL PERSONS WHO, AT THE TIME OF ENTRY, ARE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF THE SITE, WHO ARE AT LEAST FOURTEEN (14) YEARS OLD (FIFTEEN [15] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF NORWAY AND EIGHTEEN [18] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF GERMANY), AND ARE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES (INCLUDING THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BUT EXCLUDING PUERTO RICO), CANADA (EXCLUDING THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA), UNITED KINGDOM, AUSTRALIA, BELGIUM, CHINA, THE NETHERLANDS, COLOMBIA, DENMARK, GERMANY, INDIA, NORWAY, OR SWITZERLAND." In my country, your are an adult if you are 18 years old. I'm older, so I haven't this problem. But my country, Spain, doesn't appear in your list. Can we participate? Or there is some problem with the post or the laws to send the prices? Thank for your time!

Any Club-Mate drinkers out there in the NYC area?

It is being imported from Germany special for anyone that may want the high caffeine drink Club-Mate. For those familiar with it from overseas, you may post as to your like/dislikes of the beverage and what you think about it overall. This link was the first I got wind of this and forgot to mention it before or forgot that I DID mention it before?

Facadeprinter prints by shooting paintballs

Want some art nice and big on a wall and don't want to break out a ladder? The Facadeprinter in Germany is something that can help. It's a computer-controlled paintball gun that can make paintings 8m tall and 10m wide. The computer takes into account the shape of the target so there's no distortion in the final piece. Check out the video to see it in action. Facadeprinter via Wooster Collective facadeprinter.org - three stones from Facadeprinter on Vimeo.

Kite-powered ship sets sail.

German container ship MS Beluga SkySails has set sail for Venezuela from Germany, towed in part by 160 square metres of parafoil. The kite is flown at an altitude of around 200m (depending on exact wind conditions), and is expected to save nearly $1600 in fuel costs every day.The kite is computer-controlled, flying in a constant figure-eight to maintain traction. If this trial is successful, kites of up to 5000m2 are planned for future trips.BBC StorySkySails site

Ridiculous and lovely wooden sphere

Over at Make: Blog, George Hart shows that if you put a challenge out there, no matter how crazy, someone might just do it. So 15 years after he made some plans for a theoretical sphere made with 480 wooden pieces and 960 connections, someone actually built it. In this case it was Thomas Guethner of Trostberg, Germany. It's a ridiculous project to take on, but I'm happy that he did it, the results look great! Math Monday: Nailbanger's Nightmare

Play an iPod through an EMUD Tube Radio

I have a beautiful shortwave/AM/FM/turntable EMUD brand (Germany) console stereo that I love. Currently, the radio's not working, but I think I can get that fixed. I'd love to add the capability to play my iPod through the speakers. The iPod doesn't have to be integrated into the stereo, it could be something where I just plug and play through the stereo's speakers - if that's possible. Any help? Thanks in advance.

3.3V to 3V - Power a GameBoy Color from USB

I want to power my GameBoy Color using the USB port. It needs 3V ( 2 AA batteries). I found a voltage regulator, that puts out 3V, but it does not seem to be available in Germany. But there are loads of 3.3V regulators. So I wonder, how I could use one of those. Is it possible to simply put a resistor in row (if yes, what value would be suitable?) or is it a bit more complicated?

Another observation of incipient speciation in the wild

A report in Science News this week reports on observations of German blackcaps, which are apparently splitting into two separate, non-reproducing populations, and which are developing distinct appearances along the to becoming separate species.  Since the 1960s, the two populations have developed different wintering migration habits: the original blackcaps migrated from Germany to Spain and back again, while the new population overwinters in England(!), relying on the vast number of backyard feeders (yes, this is all your fault, Kiteman!).  Yet another beautiful example of careful observation in the wild of natural selection and its consequences.

Train Surfing by the Train Rider

Preformed by a German known as "the trainrider". Before he died from leukemia, he enjoyed the last year of his life by surfing on trains. Included Germany's fastest Highspeed train ICE with a top speed of 330 km/h(!) No one did that before. So, there's a lot of video on the youtubes about him faking his death... It's possible someone is trying to claim the fame - or he really did fake it for a variety of reasons... In any case, it's still quite an amazing feat - but he did it, now you don't have to :p

LED Idea Contest

While we're having our own LED contest with the Get the LED Out! Contest there's another one happening across the ocean over in Germany that's being put on by OSRAM, called LED - Emotionalize Your Light. Top prize is 3,000 Euro.Unlike our contest you don't need to actually make anything for this one. Create an account and submit an idea along with a drawing or a render of what you have in mind and then it's off to the races. It's a multi-stage affair with voting and judging and opportunities to expand on your idea, but all you need to begin with is an idea. LED - Emotionalize Your Light

A collaborative literary experiment that you can contribute to

This weekend Eureka! Factory and the Hive makerspace at Tampa's John F. Germany library will be participating in the Deconstruction hackathon. Our project this year is a literary hack. We are asking for random sentences from the imaginations of the general public. We will collect sentences from now until 7PM EST on Saturday, November 15th. We will spend the following 24 hours wrangling the collected contributions into some kind of narrative form. It will be a fun experiment. For more information and to contribute visit the Instructable here and leave a sentence in the comments. We will post the results on Sunday evening. Thanks!

Quantum random-walk puts single atom into observable superposition of states

Http://physicsworld.com/cws/article/news/39802Single atoms have been spotted doing the quantum version of the random walk by physicists in Germany. This sighting of a "quantum walk" could help in the design of quantum search algorithms, or in the understanding of the transition from the quantum, microscopic world to the classical, macroscopic world.Update 15 July 2009: The actual paper appears in this week's Science (pay-per-view, unfortunately). Here's a nice diagram from the article, contrasting (left) the quantum superposition with (right) one of the classicial random walks. The histograms below show their actual measurements in the two situations.

Update on International Entries in Instructables Contests

We have greatly expanded the list of eligible countries that can participate in our contests!! To find all the eligible countries see below (Eligibility as of 11/16/2015). A small percentage of our contests will be limited to 14 countries (Limited Contests) so make sure to check the rules before entering. Contests rules will not retroactively be changed. Eligibility as of 11/16/2015 THE CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO NATURAL PERSONS WHO, AT THE TIME OF ENTRY, ARE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF THE SITE, WHO ARE AT LEAST THIRTEEN (13) YEARS OLD (FIFTEEN [15] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF NORWAY AND EIGHTEEN [18] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF GERMANY), AND NOT RESIDENTS OF ANY COUNTRY SUBJECT TO A US TRADE EMBARGO (AS OF APRIL 2014 NORTH KOREA, SYRIA, SUDAN, CUBA AND IRAN) AS WELL AS: BRAZIL, ITALY, ARGENTINA, TURKEY, ROMANIA, POLAND, OR THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA. Limited Contests: Eligible countries include: US, UK, Australia, Belgium, Canada (excluding Quebec), China, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, and Switzerland. ___________________________________________________ UPDATE 7/25/2012: Colombia, Denmark, Germany, India, New Zealand, Norway, and Switzerland are now eligible for all contests!  We've updated the rules to make this clear.  More countries coming as fast as we can. --Christy Broadly, there are two types of contests: games of skill and games of chance. Most of our contests are games of skill because they are judged, but we have occasionally run games of chance (random winner in a contest, random commenter wins a prize, etc..). Both types are regulated, sometimes stringently, across the world. As an independent entity, we may have been violating the contest and gaming laws in every country on the planet except the US. While ignorance of the law isn't an acceptable reason to violate it, I did not spend the time to understand and comply with every country's contest laws. Without locations across the world, the potential for enforcement of laws I didn't know about was low. We are now part of an international company, and the potential for enforcement is real. Complying with laws is not a drag! It's what sustainable businesses that expect to be around for a long time do! If you are upset about this, before you complain here, please write or call your representative, member of parliament, or dictator and ask them to simplify contest law in your country. The easier to understand your country's contest laws, the faster we can open our contests to you, and comply with your country's laws. Remember, obeying the law is what good websites do! Autodesk is not trying to destroy the Instructables community by reducing the number of entrants to our contests; in fact, they're very concerned about the issue. We are trying to make sure we obey all the laws of all the countries where we operate. We are simultaneously working to understand the laws of more countries so we can legally run contests in more areas. The terms and conditions of our contests are now in full compliance with the requirements of the US and Canada, except Quebec. Doing so required many hours of me talking to lawyers, and very large costs. I have sorted the countries we will work on next by where our traffic comes from, and where past winners and entrants have come from. For reference: Top 10 Countries by traffic: US - open UK - open Canada - open (minus Quebec) Australia - open India - open Germany - open Philippines Brazil Mexico France Top 10 Countries by winners and entrants: US - open Canada - open UK - open Australia - open Netherlands - open Germany - open New Zealand - open Argentina Colombia - open India - open The rules for games of skill and games of chance are drastically different. I foresee a situation where there are countries in which we can run one type of contest, but not the other. Since we don't collect your country of residence during registration, our method of determining who is eligible is based on where a winner wants us to ship a prize. Obeying laws is not a drag, but this is a tricky situation. I'll concede that you might view this as a bait and switch: we should have fully understood the contest laws of any country where we wanted to encourage DIY through our contests before allowing entrants from those countries. Instead, we allowed everyone, and now have to pause until I can talk to more lawyers. For that I apologize. Fixing this is one of our top priorities.  Even yesterday, I discussed how to get the UK and Australia added to the approved list, and we'll work from there.

World's Heaviest Motorcycle

Monster bike is world's heaviestA giant motorbike powered by a Russian tank engine has been recognised as the heaviest in the world. It's been dubbed the Led Zeppelin by creator Tilo Nieber, 39, who said: "You don't get much more heavy metal than this."The four-and-a-half tonne machine has driven into the Guinness Book of Records as the heaviest motorbike in the world. It is 17ft 4ins long and 7ft 6ins tall and the engine alone weighs 1.8 tonnes after the armour plating tank cover has been stripped off.The bike, which took a team of welders and mechanics almost a year to build at the Harzer Bike Schmiede in Zilly, Germany, is now hoping for a licence to travel on the road. But in the meantime Guinness Book of Records spokesman Amarilis Espinoza confirmed it was the world's heaviest motorbike.

Pyrolixer - can you help me figure out what it is?

I need to figure out the actual name of something I bought years ago under the name of "Pyrolixer" for pyro-effects (in Germany). I am also curious as to whether you could diy it.Let me describe what this is about: a liquid that you apply to paper and let dry. When you set fire to that area, it will smolder away, but only where you applied the liquid. From what I gather, it is used for magic tricks and similar effects. In addition to have paper smolder slowly, you can use it to reveal a message by letting it burn away specific areas. Can anyone help me out? "Pyrolixer" does not appear to be a good search term, and thus probably now the English/original/technical name for this. Any feedback is appreciated, and ideas about how to make your own even more so!Thank you!

Reclaiming Wasted heat to make electricity

I work in an aluminum casting facility and we're looking for ways to save energy etc... one thing that we've got no shortage of is heat (during the summer the temp near the ceiling above the furnaces is over 230F) i've looked into stuff like they do in steel mills in Germany where they run pipes through the furnace linings and then use the heat from the furnace to make steam and run steam generators. but i was thinking of something else today. would you be able to just mount a bunch (or one huge) peltier exchanger (or whatever they're called) on the ceiling above the furnaces and use that to make electricity? i'm aware that they create electricity because of temperature differences (and not specifically from being hot or cold in general) so would we have to cool one side of the unit for maximum efficiency? are there any other ways that anyone knows of to turn waste heat directly or indirectly into electricity?

Can I participate in this contest ?

My name is Shahrukh Saleem, I am from Pakistan. I wanted to participate in the soldering contest, but in Sec A rules of contest it is written that "THE CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO NATURAL PERSONS WHO, AT THE TIME OF ENTRY, ARE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF THE SITE.... AND ARE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES (INCLUDING THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BUT EXCLUDING PUERTO RICO), CANADA (EXCLUDING THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA), UNITED KINGDOM, AUSTRALIA, BELGIUM, CHINA, THE NETHERLANDS, COLOMBIA, DENMARK, GERMANY, INDIA, NORWAY, NEW ZEALAND OR SWITZERLAND" Why Pakistan is not listed here ? it is also written that a national or resident of Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria or any other country for which trade with the United States has been prohibited or restricted by any statute, regulation, order, rule, treaty, or other law of the United States or any other applicable jurisdiction in any manner that would prevent the awarding or delivery of any prize to the entrant; US hasn't restricted trade with Pakistan. So Can I participate ?

World Record Gaming Gathering.

A total of 342 gamers dressed as icons from games such as Final Fantasy, Zelda and Solid Snake in east London as part of the London Games Festival. They narrowly broke a record of 337 set last week in Germany.Festival director Duncan Best said: "It was a bit touch-and-go for a while but the gaming community really stepped up to the challenge."The record was verified by Guinness World Records at the Excel Centre in Docklands on Saturday.A further 50 fans in fancy dress could not take part, however, as rules stated that characters who were primarily famous from movies were disqualified."So we had people turning up dressed as Lego Batman, for example, who could not be counted," said Mr Best. Get your details right, BBC! We all know Batman is most famous from the TV show...Still, it would have been nice to see the Lego Batman costume.BBC StoryLondon Games FestivalGuinness World Records

Non Stop! Caramel cookies recipe

Hi! About 6 moths ago I was visiting family in Germany, and my uncle had these weird cookies (well not really weird, unusual) called Non Stop! Caramel http://www.smildebakery.com/assortiment/cookies/list/?s=157&p;=/sweet/&f;=all/ Now, I live in Finland, and these cookies aren't available here, so I was wondering if anyone had ever tried to mimic these or had some suggestions what recipes would work. I don't have a lot of free time, so trying out a hundred recipes is not an option. There is another thing. Since then, I have also become a vegan, so if I were to find these in a store, I couldn't eat them, so I sorta need to do this myself. So if anyone has eaten these cookies and knows a recipe for something in the same direction, or can make up a copycat recipe, it would be much appreciated. The recipe doen't have to be vegan btw, I can convert it myself. Thanks in advance,  - Kalle

New water power, 'reverse" archemedes screw from Germany and gravitational vortex from Austria

I think the gravitational vortex is a few years old and I only found the Reverse Archemedes Screw yesterday. Would anyone like to do instructables on them? It seems both are attempts to make hydroelectric power a bit more fish friendly.  They say the reverse archemedes screw is very efficient too. Check them out and see what you think.  I put videos about them in this playlist http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=FD3B655FED590244 While I am here, why do the screws shown not have the auger and shell of the screw all welded together? Perhaps it is just for cleaning reasons?  Or maybe it is just  too difficult to make a "spiral staircase" inside a pipe? Anyway, it looks like excellent projects for someone.   The reverse archemedes screw is totally new to me. I have seen videos of the austrian system before. If they are fish friendly, lets make them popular. One question, how do the fish migrate up the river? Brian

Troubles making a BEAM bot (Miller engine)

Hey everybody! I'm just getting involved with the wonderful BEAM bots. The problem is that here in Germany I don't get some of the transistors and I have to find alternatives. Instead of the 2N3904 I use the BC546, for the 2N3906 I use the BC556 and for the MN1381 I use the TC-54. I'm attaching the datasheets - did I get it right that I only have to "turn the BC556 around" so the pins fit? However, I don't get the Miller engine working! As a solar cell I use a Panasonic BP-376634 (3,4V - 30mA) http://shop.aaaa-electronic.de/epages/15164820.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/15164820/Products/50007-002 As capacitors I used different ones. The motor is a tiny cell-phone vibrating motor - I guess one of the tiniest. As a resistor I'm using a 2.2K. All in all I tried to follow these diagrams: http://www.solarbotics.net/library/circuits/se_t1_1381.html I also uploaded some photos - maybe you can make out mistakes I made... Hoping for your help! Sebastian

solar battery amp hours and panel which one ?

Hello, I am working on a project that is solar powered. I am not sure what kind of solar battery i should get and equivalent  solar panel to charge it.. and regulator --- The parameters are: The 'show' will take place every hour for eight hours during daylight hours.. Each hour every 10 mins the system will switch ON and power will be needed to operate 25 automatic car antennas that draw about 0.8amps for about 1 minute show time. So every hour I will be drawing 25*0.8*6 = 120  ? -- I am new to this so i figure my calculations are wrong as 120amps seems a lot -- the system will also be powering an Arduino board which will be controlling the overall timing and puppetering of the work ie some coil relays or transistors for lower power consumption. this project will be installed in Germany in the summer with average sunlight conditions .. From my reading up on the subject I understand that it is not good to drain a battery, ideally half drain is max...could someone please advise what values i need for battery and solar panel.. thanks in advance .. Cc
