Time & money guidelines for Gift Exchange gift sizes?

For the Gift Exchange, I can't seem to find the page where it gave guidelines for what the S, M, & L-sized gift packages should translate to in terms of time and maximum cash outlay. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Eligibility For Holiday Gifts?

In the Holiday Gifts Contests it states handmade gifts to be entered. The project I wanted to post however involves a laser cutter, would this count as handmade or be disqualified?

Cupcake Gifts

A two in one reuse and cooking project. Fill an old glass jar with cupcakes and frosting...I think YES! I'm always trying to think of easy to make gifts.  These Mason Jar Cupcakes are perfect gifts for co-workers, a sick friend, or just to say thanks.

Gift exchange: Question

Just a quick question... I'm thinking of jumping in the Gift exhange group as I think its a brilliant idea... But, would it be reasonable for me to say offer one or two peices of my pre-made instructables as a gift? I was thinking of offering someone Norbert and a mini trebuchet that I already have made... Or do i deffinatly need to make something brand new? Its no problem making something new.... just well... I think Norbert would make a great gift... but I don't EXACTLY want to make another one what do you think? Jay

Why is it...

Why is it I always find this type of contest after I've made the gift without documenting the process and the gift is nicely wrapped? It is just sitting there mocking me saying "Unwrap me and simulate the construction. You want another Dremel. You know you do."

My gift exchange has arrived! Double Trebuchet Greatness!

For the Instructables gift exchange I was paired up with Biggsy. They made me this awesome Trebuchet set! I have two Trebuchet's a red one, and a blue one, with matching little defence walls.  Biggsy said that they work well with marble, but I only had airsoft bb's to hand, which flew very nicely. I really enjoyed doing the gift exchange, and look forward to any future ones! When the trebuchet's are not being played with, they are going to live on my shelf of other misc items, to be looked at and fiddled with. Thanks Biggsy! - gmjhowe

Making a wedding gift. Need help.

One of my best friends is getting married in September.  I've been trying to come up with a cool gift to make them, but am running out of ideas.  I was going to try to make something for their new home they just bought, but they got situated real quick with new stuff so it's kinda difficult to figure out something they don't already have or that will fit somewhere in their new home.  I wanted to make something that they could/would use, something that has some sort of function, but since the "home gift" ideas are sorta low, I was thinking something more sentimental.  A few years ago I made a gift for my brother, pieces of wood with a waterslide decal of his daughter and her name woodburned into it (I can't upload photos now for some reason otherwise I'd show).  I was thinking of something like that... BUT the husband&wife to be are also into dance parties and that gave me the idea of wanting to do something with LED lighting strip that goes with music played.  I'm thinking one or the other or both or something entirely different.  If anyone has any ideas for a wedding gift for a couple who likes dance parties/music/photos/beer/food/etc... I'd greatly appreciate it.

Member gift exchange?

I just heard about imgr doing sort of a secret Santa type gift exchange for valentines day and thought that was a super cool idea. While we're probably too late for v day, maybe that would be a fun thing to put together for a "spring cleaning" maker trade. There's a lot of amazing talent on this site and I bet some of us could definitely stand to clear our workbenches of surplus or unsold projects. Each person would get the name and address of another member and send something they make, and receive something from a different person in return. I'm happy to help organize it, but I'm not sure about the best way to assign gifts since we can't just draw names out of a hat. Suggestions? And do we divide it by country so nobody has to deal with international postage, or leave it wide open? I welcome ideas and definitely would like to gauge interest.

I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger size gift package from someone than the one I make for someone else: Preferably smaller. Not much room in my house. What I like: Cats, other fluffy things. What I don't like: I'm picky, I admit it, but it's hard to put it into words. Stuff that is crudely made, how about that? I absolutely can't have: nothing Type of thing I'd love to receive: Something that can be held by one hand. Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? Sure Confirm that are at least 18 years old or, if not, that you have the approval of a parent or guardian: I approve myself

10 DIY Gifts for Friends and Family

I wrote an article for Popular Mechanics about making your own gifts, titled 10 DIY Gifts for Friends and Family, that features some great gift Instructables. You're the type of person who likes getting his hands dirty fixing, servicing, and building your home, car, and garage hobbies. Why wouldn't you do the same with holiday gifts? Not only is a handmade gift more economical, but recipients will cherish something you have made above something store-bought. So, with lower costs, the prospect of genuine "this is really cool" thank yous, and some homebuilding fun in mind, let's get started on a DIY holiday. From my project-sharing Web site, Instructables.com, here are five DIY gifts for a dad, brother or fellow PM reader, and five less-expensive (time and money!) DIY gifts for the rest of the friends and family.
