Okay, here's the deal. I want to put this design on the blade of a knife I'm making (the design is the USNA class of 2013 ring crest). Before I can do that I need to have a stencil made of the design so I can etch it on the steel. But, the design is to complicated (all the shadowing and such). So I need to clean it up, get rid of shading, shadows, all that. How would anyone suggest I do that? I gifure I'll have to do some editing in a photo editing program, what program? And how do I do it? Thanks for any help, I'm not a computer graphics person at all, so explain it like you would to your grandpa (no I'm not old, just not computer smart) Oldanvilyoungsmith

Hi, I have just recieved a Tust slimline design TB-5300, I have set it up, really easily, and I was wondering about hand writing recognition. I went to: Control panel> Date, Time, language and regional> regional and language> Languages> Details> Add. And it was not possible to select handwriting recognition. So I went My computer> add or remove programs> Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003> change> add or remove features> selected "Choose advanced"> Next> Office shared features> Alternative User Input> Handwriting> Run from my computer> update. It came with the computer so I didn't have to insert a disk. I still can't select "handwriting recognition. Please help, Nutrition Man AKA Flannel UK

my screen scrambled up after a download. shut my comp down and restarted, but now screen will not come on at all. help?
After downloading a couple of programs, I went to open and install one and my screen image scrambled up. So I manually shut down my computer and then after a minute turned it back on. I can see that the computer's power is coming on but the screen is not coming on at all. I tried plugging in a different screen but that screen would not come on either. Someone told me they thought maybe my graphics card died. Any advice?
Hi guys, I need to print some white graphics onto a flat black USB flash drive, I've included a picture. I'd prefer to do this using a silkscreen process of some sort. Do you have any ideas about the most efficient way to get this done. I want to avoid Pad printing because of the high cost. I have 200 to print on both sides (400 prints total). Let me know what you think, thanks!

I know laptops can't have their graphics cards replaced, and overclocking doesn't make a huge performance difference and is dangerous. but, thinking outside the box (which is what this site is about) what other ways are there of increasing the graphics abilities?

I've got an older (2005) desktop pc and I'm thinking about installing Fedora 15 on it. I've heard that GNOME 3 should have hardware accelation for the graphics. Is this true?

So my sister has just received a new laptop because her old Eee PC Netbook's hard drive has somewhat died. The screen itself and some other components are still good, especially the screen. Its size would make a really good graphics tablet, but im not quite sure how to get this screen made into one. Ive looked online for some info about this and have turned up too little info to work with. Anyone have any ideas?

As requested by https://www.instructables.com/member/weblionx/. No, I don't know why either. But hey, who am I to judge? You need greasemonkey and, optionally for firefox, the stylish addon. Install and enable the following scripts:http://userstyles.org/styles/15029http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/59367Please note, you will need to either stay logged in all the time (so keep cookies on!) or else disable these scripts to be able to login, use the forums, and upload new instructables and the like, unless you type the urls directly - laborious! Please let me know of any bugs.

A long time ago I messed with something on my computer, and after that it can't display resolutions about 1024x768. It used to be able to display a higher resolution. (It is a inbuilt GPU, not a seperate card) I tried searching for a new driver, but after I install it, and reboot (BTW: I am using Windows XP), it just ''cycles'', it will boot up to the Windows XP loading screen, then it just reboots, and goes back to where you can select safe mode etc. Then it just tries to do it again. When i choose boot with last known good configuration, it will boot properly, but that doesn't solve my original problem. Any ideas on how I can update the driver without that happening? Thanks, Thermoelectric!

what i want to do is a pattern of my "Ranger boots", say i need to measure the whole thing, make a 3D-model of it and then need the software to make planar layers out of it. aim is to get a pattern of my boots, cut a design into the pattern, print it on adhesive foil, put the foil on the boots/cover the boots and spray it. After removin the foil again, i should have the design on the boots; the foil is simply the negative of the design. (I thought bout "solid works" (engineering software) to design my boots, but i dunno much bout softwares' availability, so i'm askin.)

So, I have this new HP Sprout that I totally wasn't expecting. It's got a large touchscreen and this cool projector-scanner-touchmat combo that should be really useful for... something. The first thing I actively want is to be able to create files for my laser cutter (running Lasercut5.3), just by drawing with fingertips or stylus. In my head, I see a version of Inkscape that works on the touchmat, but only responds to the stylus (to save weird lines from knuckles, elbows...). I have Inkscape downloaded, but it won't work with the touchmat. Second, it would be nice to start learning how to create are actually 3d already, that could then become lasercut-able or 3d printable. Again, it would be nice to use the full potential of the machine, so what software would you recommend? Third... what? have you got any cool ideas? On top of all this is the consideration of cost. Free would be nice - if you are a software developer, I don't mind having a go with Beta products (I'm known for breaking code, so if it can survive me...).

I thought this looked like something that would appeal to other members of instructables. This coursera course "Design: Creation of Artifacts in Society" is run by Professor Karl T. Ulrich from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. It is totally free and runs for 8 weeks from Oct 21st 2013: https://www.coursera.org/course/design?utm_classid=971091&utm_nottype=course.newsession.signup&utm_notid=1166&utm_linknum=1 "This is a course aimed at making you a better designer. The course marries theory and practice, as both are valuable in improving design performance. Lectures and readings will lay out the fundamental concepts that underpin design as a human activity. Weekly design challenges test your ability to apply those ideas to solve real problems. The course is deliberately broad - spanning all domains of design, including architecture, graphics, services, apparel, engineered goods, and products"

I want to create some instructional illustrations for an instructable to be published here. Who's? I still don't know. There will be no cost to it. Just tell me about the instructable that you are working on so we can work through it. How does it work The illustration will be based upon a photo. You will take a picture that you want to use in your instructable and I will vectorize it by tracing over the image. Then, I will send the vectorized image back to you so you can publish it. Copyrights The work rights will be under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0). That means that I just need you to put my name on the credits of your post. I will use the images in my portfolio and/or will be published on my website. About Me I am a graphic designer and web developer that decided to join the United States Coast Guard a few years ago. I loved my job but I wanted to do something different and serve. I love what I do now but I miss designing so much that I've decided to do it for free. I guess is still serving the community.

I'm wondering if it is possible to manually switch the graphics on a dell XPS 15 laptop. It automatically switches on intensive tasks (like games), so performance is fine, but all of the benchmarking tools recognize the graphics card as "Intel HD (integrated) Graphics" instead of the NVIDIA 420M. Is there a way that I can manually change the graphics for benchmarking purposes? Thanks.

I've been looking around, and it seems like generally instructables users are not web/graphics designers. There needs to be a section for the design tutorials!!! Anyways when my schedule frees up in the future, I'll add some flash and dreamweaver tutorials... otherwise there is a major lacking of web DIY instructables! what you guys think? Dont you guys wanna learn how to DIY (design it yourself)? I am talkin about design here, not art.

I haven't looked too much at the new site, but the thing I noticed immediately was that the graphical search button is missing. I don't know if there was a big reason for removing it, but it was really useful for finding good 'ibles. Please bring it back.

Make your Zune the ultimate eBook reader with our softwareThis tool allows you to "convert" text such way, that you receive suite graphic files like suite of scanned pages of book or magazine. It is often necessary when you want to read favorite book on MobilePC, which does not have ability to show text files, but only graphical i.e. Zune. This tool has many opportunities for settings output files: type of graphical file, size of file ("resolution"), pagination, margins, font, color of text, line spacing etc. Also you have ability to save favorite settings and load saved earlier. http://www.roversoft.dp.ua/Default.aspx?ProductID=5download url - http://roversoft.dp.ua/TextAsImage/publish.htm

Hi, I've recently installed Windows 8 on my laptop after windows 7 died on me and my DVD drive failed. I had to put my hdd in another laptop to install then transfer it back into my laptop, the problem I'm having though is that Windows 8 has installed some random drivers for my video card (ATI mobility radeon 4200 hd) whereas I need the Windows 7 driver which I cannot access. Has anybody found a DIRECT DOWNLOAD to the driver? All I can find is the catalyst control centre and such which completely ignores the card and allows Windows to install it's own stuff :LAny help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Will

Now this si very crazy but I am looking for a way to do something different. I am affiliated with an organization which would work for developing sense of Arts in teh visually challenged / blind students. My upcoming project is to let them take photograph from a camera handed over to them. The problem lies where I cna not think of a simpler way to make them feel what they have taken as a snap shot. My idea is to get the photos printed and transfer them on surfaces as they are and emboss them somehow so that the blind students can feel the raised surfaces and feed in their memory what is purely their photography. I can emboss it on metal but I am anticipating that doing that by hand would be a lot of work because there will be many students. Is tehr ea way I can do that quickly? An easy way to transfer the print on any surface and get them embossed ... something. Any clue? Please see the following link: http://www.nctd.org.uk/MakingTG/thermo.asp If I can get this made, or anything near to it. It would be awesome.
