I got promoted!

I did.As of September, the Headteacher has asked me to be Acting Head of Year 7. I'll be responsible for the day-to-day welfare and behaviour of 160 children. This is right out of the blue.I'm excited.I'm terrified.I'm management!Unfortunately, that means more work, so less time Making, less time online. You won't notice until September, but I'll apologise in advance.WowEDITI've already found myself doing stuff - organising a week of activities for 300 kids, and I get to order senior management around...I think I may enjoy this...

Head mounted camera records what you look at

The EyeSeeCam is a head-mounted device developed at the University of Munich Hospital that uses four cameras to record what your eyes are looking at. Two cameras are used to track your eyes, one records what your head is pointed at, and the last one uses the data from the first two cameras to record where they're looking. The creators list some nice uses for this, but I keep thinking that this would be great for a first-person shooter. Or maybe something more altruistic like an interface for those with ALS that the EyeWriter was designed for. Motorized Panoramic head with microcontroller

Hi All, I want to build a motorized panoramic head. It must be made in PIC or ATMEL because I have only these options. Arduino board are not available to me  How it works.  Its basically controlling two stepper motors using inputs from photographer. Photographer inputs values in parameters and than microcontroller uses these parameters to rotate camera frame and take pictures. Parameters are as under: There are two stepper motors. One motor rotates frame of camera on x-axis and one rotates it on y-axis.  1. For x-axis motor parameters    a. Total numbers of steps to rotate.    b. One motor movement = 1 stepper motor step or more. For example we can move stepper 2      steps in on movement    c. After each movement (point#2) It takes image or press camera button by using relay or optocoupler    d Time Delay : When camera takes picture it takes time to save on memory card. We can define time in seconds as per picture size.    e : When it completes total number of steps defined in step#1. It moves back to its zero position. 2. For Y-axis moto parameters     a: When first motor completes its full number of steps than y-axis motor is activated.     b: y-axis: Total number of steps      c: one movement = how much motor steps. just like x-axis motor parameter     d:   Time Delay : same as x -axis motor. time delay after tilting frame.      e: y-axis motor just performs only one movement. Than again it activates x-axis motor.     f: Panoramas are made in multi rows. so this process of x-axis and y-axis motor activation should keep on going. It is terminated when y-axis motor completes its total number of steps. So the whole process is like this Turn on microcontoller  Add parameters for x-axis and y-axis motors click on start button microcontroller starts rotating frame on x-axis Frame start moving in steps. Than frame completes its first x-axis turn now microcontroller activates y-axis motor. Y-axis motor tilts frame upper arm in one direction.   code checks it is Y-axis motor final movement or more to come. If more than it activates x-axis motor. X-axis motor starts repeating whole process which it previously did. Than after full movement on x-axis and it activates y-axis motor. This process is terminated when total movement defined for y-axis motor is achieved. CAN ANYBODY MAKE ITS CIRCUIT AND PROGRAM CODING ? I M TOTALLY BLANK IN MAKING CIRCUITS AND WRITING CODES.

Shaving me head for charity

I'm going to be shaving my head for charity, in order to microfinance third world countries. I was wondering if anyone on instructables would like to help by donation. I'll post before and after pictures on here once I get the amount of money we need (Which is about 1800 dollars, to buy a proper carpentry set for a man in Ghana.) I'm also working with people in my community to do this. You won't be scammed as you don't need to give me any money. Here's how it'll work: 1: Post here how much you'll donate 2: Go to KIVA.com and register an account 3: I will provide you with a link to the recipient 4: You will donate the money on a given day, at which point (when I see that the transaction is through) I will shave my head, pictures and all. 5: You may laugh at my discomfort.

Halloween moving head prop?

For Halloween, I'm planning on making a large stone angel statue, and I'd love to have the head move back and forth. Thing is, I need to be able to control when the head moves, not just have it swinging back and forth randomly. Any ideas on how to do this? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks so much.

So I wanted to make this since about a week ago, and I got some friends together to help me, and we busted it out! What do you think?  The picture is zoomed in from a high hill that I was standing on. It's hard to get perspective on this, but a person standing in the picture would be a 1/2 inch tall.

is there a way to hack my motorola walkie talkie to play music when no one is talking over the headset?

Hello, i'm trying to hack my motorola walkie talkie using a microcontroller to play music continuously from my iPod, and switch to the headset of my walkie talkie when someone speaks to me over the headset.  Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions or helpful links? My walkie talkie of course has a headset that has two prongs, one for audio out, and another in from the handheld mic that clips to my shirt.  I'm wanting to, like i said, use a microcontroller to sense when the audio is coming from the walkie talkie and mute the iPod, then continue playing again once my coworker has stopped talking to me on the communication device.  Any help?  I have the necessary equipment to program the microcontroller, but won't know the code or which microcontroller to purchase.  Please help? I've attached a picture of the type of walkie talkies i'm talking about, it's not the exact one, but you can get a better idea of what i'm talking about

heads or tails?

I've come up with a great way to play heads and tails on the web! first a person (the challenger) asks someone to play. then the defender PMs the challenger to call heads or tails. then a moderator (adrian monk) will flip a coin at her end and declare the results publicly. if the defender called the winning side, he wins, if the defender called the losing side, the challenger wins

Immersive HMD Discussion

Some of you may have already read my Instructable for the Immersive HMD (Head Mounted Display,) for those who haven't, it is here. I want to share more information about the build, and also get peoples ideas and opinions so lets see what people come up with! I am also happy to answer any questions about how it works, or what I am planning on doing with it. Currently in the works: I have a friend who is "flash savvy" helping me make the HUD interface. We will be streaming the feed from the webcam as the bottom layer of a flash file. We can then overlay well animated and styled objects over top of the feed. This allows the user to access whatever applications they find useful without having to change perspectives. The camera that I am waiting on has a far higher resolution that the screens are capable of outputting, so by selecting areas of the screen to "zoom in on" (expanding the selected area to fit the screen) you essentially have digital zoom. I will upload sketches of the adjustable screen mounts soon. ... and remember kids, the future is now! (for real! look around you)

Combichrist Shrunken Heads quote.

Does anyone know where the quote from the Combichrist song Shrunken Heads For All Occasions comes from? If you haven't heard the song, there is a voice saying "Now, shrunken heads for all occasions, collect 'em, swap 'em, give 'em to your witchdoctor friends". I've tried searching for it, but with no luck whatsoever.

How do you clean dried printer heads on a fairly new printer?

So I have an EPSON Stylus CX 5400 that will not print a darn thing. After test printing, running the "clean heads" function, and doing head alignment repeatedly, I called EPSON with my frustrated bafflement. To which they replied that my printer heads must have dried out, therefore the printer is shot, and they would be happy to sell me a new one. Which I think is nonsense - There's got to be a way to clean out dried printer heads, right? Or is this wishful thinking? I opened it up, but being the non geek I am have not figured out what the heck printer heads look like, and can't figure out how to remove the component where they must be. Is cleaning out dried up printer heads a pipe dream, or can someone tell me how to do this for this type of printer? I just hate to think of trashing a huge piece of electronics, and I would rather not buy a new printer. Thanks

Head/Pillow Heat Sink Materials

I'm wanting to build a heat sink for my head/pillow at night. The reason? My head frequently gets too hot at night giving me bad dreams, headaches, and sometimes keeping me up for hours. What I've come up with is steel or copper BBs contained in a thin plastic bag to prevent corrosion and enclosed in fabric for comfort and durability. Does anyone have a better idea, especially for the heat sink (metal) part?

Need help finding easy materials for Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2/Movie) costume!

I know there are a few topics and instructables on how to make a Pyramid Head costume already, but mine's going to be a bit different. I'm going to sort of be mixing costume styles of the Pyramid Heads from the Silent Hill movie, and the second Silent Hill game where he made his debut. I have past experience with this costume, actually. In fact, it was the first costume I ever made myself. My mom and I originally made the helmet out of posterboard and duck tape, but it didn't hold up so well after a while, plus it had a problem where it would get somewhat lopsided, or if I turned my head, the helmet would stay in place. This is because there was nothing inside the helmet to support my head when I turned it, or to keep it to where it moved and stayed upright with my head. The robes I made out of a bloody labcoat/doctor's coat with ripped off sleeves, and a bloodied cook's apron. draped over it to conceal the buttons. Made it look kind of odd with the layering, but I worked with it. I used a pair of white female dress gloves with it, because they looked alot like his. Anyway, this year I was wanting to revamp the costume, and add in a bit more detail, change the style a little. I was wanting to make his helmet more like the Movieverse's helmet', with the sharper angle, and grating on the sides. But I wanted to keep the apron that he had from the second game, since I don't really have the figure for the really ripped PH from the movie. So I come to you all for help. :) I need suggestions for this.  I'm also working on a bit of a budget, and I'm not at all good at woodworking. So I can't use anything like fiberglass or actual metal, I don't believe. I want it to look good, look pretty authentic and recognizable, something people could come up to in conventions and say " Dude, that's awesome", but with easy to find and work with materials. I've never sewn in my life, either, so that's out. My first one I'd like is for his helmet. I already have a decent idea of how to make it. This time I'll probably be working with super glue instead of duck tape this year. Duck tape's a miracle tool, but there's only so far it can go in certain rare situations. Something like a helmet the size of a small child requires a certain amount more work. For the helmet, I'm probably going to be using window mesh like the kind used in certain windows or porch doors for the grating on the sides of the helmet. I got that as a suggestion from another instructable, and after a bit of testing how well I can see through it, I think I can work with it. I think assembling it will be easy. I may tape it together first just to see what it'd look like fully constructed before I glue it, though. My main issue with the helmet will probably be support. I need to be able to turn my head, have it move with me and my body when I'm turning around and navigating certain areas. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to make it do that? Again, it can't be incredibly expensive. ( About more than 20-25 dollars in this case scenario.) A second bit of help I'd need is his skin. Now, my skin's naturally very pale, but there's the problem of hair. I could try applying some kind of makeup to it, but I imagine it'd smudge badly by the end of the day. If I did that, I'd probably have to wax my arms first. x.x The problem with that is that people would probably want to hug me throughout the day, and I'd be smudging makeup on their clothes. Another idea I had was trying to find a white leotard or something similarly tight-but-thin to use as his skin. I'd be able to dirty it up a bit to make it look like his. Only problem is, I don't know where to get one. There aren't any specialty stores around in a fifteen mile radius that I know of that would sell them, and I can't order online for specific reasons. Does anyone know of any widely known store that would possibly sell leotards, or something similar that I could use to cover my upper and lower body? I know white hose or thin white stockings would work for his legs, but it's the arms and upper body that are bugging me. The last bit of help I'd need is for the Great Knife, his BFS. I think I'll also be making it out of thick posterboard, possibly layered with cardboard as well, painted silver. But I wanted to know if there's a better way. I made a really ramshackle Great Knife before out of posterboard, but in retrospect, it resembled more of a giant paddle. XP It's not much diffirent from a buster sword, but most of the Buster Sword instructables I see here are only with wood. And again, horrible at woodwork.  For the handle of the blade, I was probably going to use the handle of a paintbrush or large cleaver. Anything better you all would suggest? Sorry this is such a long read, but I desperately need the help, and I wanted to get a head start on it before October (the date of the next convention in east TN, I think. And Halloween. ). Thank you in advance to anyone who can offer suggestions. Again, I'm working on a bit of a budget, though. The most I can spend per item is about 20-25 dollars. Shameful as it is to say, I normally get most of my material for costumes from thrift stores, surplus stores, and flea markets. I feel bad that I can't sew or do woodwork like the awesome cosplayers and craftsmen on the site.

How to extract a broken bit from a phillips head screw?

Anyone have a good way to extract a broken phillips bit from a screw head? It's the common #2 phillips head. The screw is a #10, stainless steel. When I was driving it in the bit snapped off so that it fills the slots in the screw head. I've tried picks and punches but it's still stuck in there. The screw is countersunk and it's in cosmetic wood (can't dig it out). I can't drill it and use an easy out because the bit is too hard to drill. To make things more difficult, the screw is inserted upward and the piece is a railing so it isn't movable. If there is a better forum for this question please let me know.

Head to Head: Member Created Contest Idea

I just had an idea for some friendly competition. I'm not sure if this has come up before, I tried searching but came up with nothing. A forum topic would be posted asking two or more volunteer members to create an instructable based on a common theme, say, a steampunk altoids tin device. They'd be given a week to post their instructable, and whoever makes the better iBle gets a patch. I was just wondering what your opinions are. Also, I haven't thought of a theme yet.

Head to Head Challenge: 9

Behold, my second attempt at an instructables contest! This is the second installment of the Head to Head challenges, my first one kind of petered out after one winner. :PThe rules are simple: volunteer members will be asked to create an Instructable based on the movie or the short film 9. Whoever creates the better Instructable (higher quality, cooler, featured, most voted for, etc) will win the patch seen below. This time around, there is no deadline (but try to keep it within a month), and you can compete with up to four different people at the same time. Just remember, only one of you will win. I will allow up to four separate competitions, same as the last challenge.Have fun, hope this isn't too confusing!http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472033/ _x_VS._x_ (VS. _x_VS._x_ )_x_VS._x_ (VS. _x_VS._x_ )_x_VS._x_ (VS. _x_VS._x_ ) _x_VS._x_ (VS. _x_VS._x_ )

Wiimote Head Tracking -- Nintendo: Please do this!

Johnny Lee did it again! Head tracking with the Wiimote! From his blog:"Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. "I really hope Nintendo looks into this -- even though it only works for 1 person. After all, most games are 1-player, and those games are the ones that would best use this feature. If I had a bluetooth adaptor, I'd play around with this some, but, alas, I do not. However, this and his other projects would work the same with a video camera that has an IR filter.Funny, Sony really didn't take enough advantage of thier EyeToy, if it was IR-only, they would have been able to do more...
