Electricity over IP

This is not really a new concept (first published in 2002), but one to mull over :-) Electricity over IP (EoIP, pronounced "yoyp") is a proposed scheme for delivering electric power via IP (Internet protocol). EoIP was developed to eliminate the unnecessary redundancy inherent in maintaining separate distribution networks for electricity and the Internet. The technology could be especially beneficial in remote areas with Internet kiosks but without electricity. The architecture for delivering EoIP is known as MPLampS (Mostly Pointless Lamp Switching). Electricity is digitized and encapsulated in discrete packets. According to the IETF's marketing segment, "MPLampS has the potential to dramatically lower the price, ease the distribution and usage, and improve the manageability of delivering electricity." Electricity over IPThe IETF Network Working Group described EoIP in RFC 3251, published on April 1, 2002. April 1 is also sometimes known as "April Fools' Day."

Bulb problems on iped?

I have an iped electric moped with pedals which I believe has a in hub motor ( haven't looked yet) the problem I have is this the replacement bulbs are almost impossible to find The headlight for example is a 55volt 36/36 which I am finding impossible to find  the rear brake light is 55 volt 15/15 watt unsure of the wedge bulb parking light which is 5mm width and there is definitely no 55 volt wedge bulbs this size The only conclusion I can think of is to insert a dc converter which will drop the voltage to each bulb from 55v to 12v giving me more availability on bulb selection I am just curious if any one on hear knows where I can get 55volt bulbs ? I also noticed a post on here regarding someone looking for extra speed and was answered with disconnecting the grey loop wires under the top cowling Well done that man you gave good advice I done mine myself and yes the increase is there I don't know if I have to keep looking for answers on this but my email is nickcorish@gmail.com if anyone can help Many Thanks all Nick

IP and licensing on Instructables

There have been some interesting discussions in the Forums about intellectual property, Creative Commons, open-source hardware, and patent law- hopefully you've noticed and chimed in already. I sent a synthesis of the discussion out to friends, bloggers, and journalists earlier this week, and have gotten some good responses. People are excited to see Instructables users actually testing out theories of open source design, and will be following our progress to see what solutions we find. What do you think? The main discussion is on the mirror post in the Forums.Instructables is a leader in user-driven innovation, as discussed last Sunday in the New York Times, and we'd like to share the ideas and trends we're seeing with you so we can get your feedback. Intellectual property (IP) rights are a hot-button issue among all creators, but few understand the legal details. Those who create music, text, and images can copyright their work under the Creative Commons and similar licenses, but no such equivalent exists for patentable ideas. Instructables users may choose to license the copyrightable portions of their Instructables under any of the available licenses, but the problem remains- what of potentially patentable IP? Current patent laws are geared toward large corporations- the law has been written to accommodate and reinforce the needs and goals of corporations and their lawyers. Individuals rarely have the time, money, and legal knowledge to file well-written patents, much less defend them- and a patent is only as good as the legal defense mounted in its support.Given these systemic problems, what should an inventor do with his or her idea? It turns out that one of the best things to do with a new, good idea is to share it. Instructables is a great forum to publicize your idea, whether you're interested in pursuing a patent or not. Under US patent law, one has a year after publication of an idea to file a provisional patent. Publishing an idea on Instructables provides exactly that stake in the sand, and can bring plenty of discussion about prior art and potential modifications to the original project. That year can be a valuable time to test the waters. The Instructables community can help identify potential collaborators or business partners, and investigate the appeal and potential commercial viability of an idea. At the end of that year, you're more likely to know whether it makes more sense to apply for a provisional patent, or to simply let your idea pass into the public domain. This idea is then unpatentable by others, so the idea will be available to other inventors to use, build upon, and remix without restriction.Instructables users are on the forefront of this discussion, testing the viability of these new models. For more information, check out Instructables founder and CEO Eric Wilhelm's Forum posts which cover these issues in more depth, and particularly the user discussions in the comments. Someone is lurking on my life and I need to trace their IP address

Meh. Okay. So apparently in 2009 I sent nudes to my boyfriend, who then spammed them to various sites after we broke up. All in all, someone from Australia who knows my current boyfriend, is threatening that hes going to post these pictures up on websites and link them to my boyfriend. Now, I don't really care because it was in 2009 and we all have bodies and its not a huge deal. Just I was 16 then and I don't think nakkie pictures of 16 yearolds should be on the internet. so, he is harassing me on skype and I was wondering if I could get his ip address. I read some posts about this and they didn't seem too conclusive. I am just curious.

Hi all guys and ladies ...  so glad i found this site looks like fun. I found you all here due to a search i did looking on tips of building and hosting my own web site, and what i read here in great detail with no fuzz i just thought was the bees knees. I do have one problem but, if i use my ip address to host my own server on an old machine and use a new pc for working here at home, the ip address will be the same, will this not lead to people trying to gain excess to my every day to day pc? jamstir.

Is it possible to find the IP address of a Skype user?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there is a way to find the IP address of a Skype user. Me and a lot of my friends have been getting heaps of people just saying "Hello! Please add me to your contact list" and then if you reply they say "How can you forget me, I want to meet with you, You can view my picture here..". (and that link redirects to a p0*n site, and it is the same link every time) I want to find their IP address to see if the same individual is doing it or if it is multiple people, because this is getting out of hand and just blocking them and reporting them won't help. I'm using a program called "SocketSniff" to find the IP addresses that Skype is using, but I can't seem to find any that are a home computer... They all seem to be servers. Any help finding who is doing this and helping me to find the IP will be greatly appreciated

How can i assign a domain Name to a local IP address?

What I am trying to do is network all of my computers in an intranet and I don't want to have to use an ip adress to access one computer from another in my intranet on a web browser. By domain Name I mean like how Google has Google.com even though they have a different ip address. Let me clarify what i want to do. I want to be able to access any computer from another through a local intranet "web" adress like "Http://Computer1.com This is for several reasons but one main reason is that i am planning on connecting a router to my intranet to allow my ipod to access my computers but the ipod doesnt use backslashes so i couldn't enter \\192.168.1......  or \\Computer1. I would have to enter  something like Http://Computer1, hence why i want to do this.

IP protection for open source hardware?

If my solar condenser ends up working I'm wanting to make it open source. I realise that this means effectively giving up all ownership of it, and that's fine, but the last thing I want is for someone else to go and patent it and stop anyone else from using it. What protections are available for this kind of thing? Patents obviously, but is there anything a little less intensive? I'll be looking into copyleft and creative commons and all that, but if someone can point in the right general direction first it'll save me some time.

JD Independence Project IP rights

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've looked around and haven't been able to find anything dealing with the IP rights associated with the JD Independence Project contest winners.  Typically Instructables contests don't run into this issue as they are dealing with already-created content and as such the IP is either available already or made available by nature of the public release of information (rendering the content ineligible for patent, at least under US IP law).  With this particular contest, however, the prize is meant to preemptively fund a project, business, etc - so there's definitely the possibility of IP creation.  How would Instructables/JD deal with this and what assurances do entrants have that IP generated as a result of the contest remains their own?

Does making a static ip to the the router, make the ip on the internet static? Answered

I have been running a server and have noticed that my ip to the router (192.168...) changes and the one displayed on the internet (94.1...) also changes. I have setup a static ip on the first port (0.2) and was wondering if when i connect to the internet each time the 94.1 etc that adress will change? People connect to my server via my ip adress and then my port number and I have noticed I have to keep giving it out as it changes.. So is there away to keep that ip static? or should it stay the same now? Many thanks Oscar

Ownership of ideas after a contest? Answered

If you submit your idea in an instructables contest, does the idea-owner remain the idea-owner, or do you give the organizing party (or sponsor) the right to commercially exploit you design? I didn't find anything about IP in the terms of agreement on a first quick scan, but wanted to be sure. Also, can you enter with a design that's also (already) commercially sold (by yourself as the idea-owner)? Thanks! Jan

FTP Hassels

I've been trying forever to get my FTP server up and running properly, to start, this is what I have:Filezilla running as a service, port 21 and also some randomly selected listening ports have been opened on modem/router, all the user accounts have been set up properly, and I can confirm that it works from LAN side of the network. I have a dynamic ip so I had to go the no-ip.com way, but it seems to work pretty good giving me a hostname.myftp.org address.I've had 4-5 people try it that I want to have access to it, and only one of them can actually get on, but he was using a different ftp client that I had never heard of, the other people were trying in mac os x or with filezilla's client software. Here is what I get:(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> Connected, sending welcome message...(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 220-FileZilla Server version 0.9.27 beta(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 220-Punkguyta's Drop Zone(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 220 Please go easy, my upload isn't all that great, thx =P(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> USER downloads(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> 331 Password required for downloads(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - (not logged in) (12.216.139.84)> PASS *********(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 230 Logged on(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> PWD(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 257 "/" is current directory.(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> TYPE I(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 200 Type set to I(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:06 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> PASV(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:07 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 227 Entering Passive Mode (209,240,120,189,19,146)(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:07 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> LIST(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:17 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> 425 Can't open data connection.(000037) 11/7/2008 0:20:40 AM - downloads (12.216.139.84)> disconnected. This is what I get with everyone, but my friend that could get on, it worked fine for him and the speed was great. I want to pull my hair out because I've googled over and over, and I'm following the directions, as retardedly easy as they are, and everything should just work correctly, I have filezilla setup to be a passive server and to retreive an external ip address from a url, and they have a default site that seems to also work okay. I'm just wondering if this is the problem, because I'm also running the no-ip dns software side by side? I don't think it matters though.Oh yeah, and I also have it setup for custom port ranges 5000-5100, so unless I plan on having even 80 or more users at a time, that should be a wide enough range. Also, don't use external ip for local network connections is checked. It seems so simplistic to me, and being able to access it locally fine, and seeing at least one other person get on it made me happy, but is there maybe something wrong in the configuration on their end(s)??Thank you guys if you can help me hit this dumb problem in the head.

How do I attach an LCD Screen to an IP DVR Camera Module?

Hi, I have a neighbor who moved in across the hall and brought drama with her in the form of more than one angry drunk boyfriend.  Security and police have been called to their door on more than one occasion and they blame me.  Garbage has mysteriously been left at my door and when they did not know I was listening have made some really nasty comments about me.  For my own protection I would like to install a peephole camera.  Since none of the ones I can find in my price range have both a dedicated screen and an ip camera would like to make one. I have found 1) IP Camera with DVR module like the one in the picture: http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00STKFDDC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid;=25HQ29KSVC2OB&coliid;=I5BW4KF2XAIZR 2)  a billion different lcd screen kits, some generic, some for arduino, some for raspberry pi. This would be my first arduino or raspberry pi project but I am willing to learn.  But I think it may be redundant to use an arduino or raspberry pi as all I need is output, but I could be wrong I have no clue. If anyone could point me in the right direction of  an existing project plan or describe how to do it I would really appreciate it.  I have spent a couple nights searching but it is possible I don`t know the correct terms to find what I am looking for. Totally grateful for any help. Thanks!!!

AT&T WiFi connection problem, help asap please!!

my computer and ipod touch seem to be fighting each other ip address wise, when one connects to the internet it steals the others internet connection and after a few minutes the device loses connection altogether. I've already set both devices to have private fixed ips .68 for one and .69 for the other. another thing is that when only one is connected on the 192.168.1.254 mainpage the device says it is the other, so when my computer is connected but not my ipod it says my ipod is connected and vise versa. my main problem is they lose connectivity after a few minutes. i have also disabled the wifi protected setup(which att told me would help solve my problems). If any other info is needed please tell me, i really need this solved!!

SMTP to send email directly to a client

I have a project idea to create a BTRD, or Beer Theft Reporting Device. (Yeah, I need to come up with a more creative name... :P) The idea is to use an ESP32 microcontroller connected to an accelerometer and 6 pressure sensors mounted to a board, on top of which sits a six-pack. I do see a few problems though. hopefully wifi can penetrate the cold metal coffin without too much loss in signal. (I'm afraid the fridge may end up functioning like a faraday cage...)Assuming that isn't going to be a problem, I have been googling around trying to figure out if it would be possible to send automated emails from this device to inform of potential theft. Since I am not concerned about receiving emails at all, It seems overkill to have to use SMTP to send the mail I want to send to some server first, which then itself forwards the email on over through the internet over to a client. Is it possible to simply send the SMTP email directly to the recipient? I mean, if this is a product that I sell, then I would not want the end user to have to bother too much with configuring the device too much.

Pinged computer names don't match actual computer IP address?

So at this school I go to, we have mac books, and we'd communicate to each other using SSH and VNC during class at times. To get the IP addresses (local) of each other, we'd ping the computer name of the person we wanted, the computer name being clearly visible on each of our mac books. From time to time, IP addresses would change, but that's not really much of a problem. Thing is, for a few people, their actual IP address is different to what we'd get when we ping them, and hence we'd accidentally end up in someone else's mac book instead of the one we intended. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on here? Or a solution? (Other than getting them to go and find their IP addresses with "ifconfig" or through terminal?) We're using OS X 10.6.4, btw  Much appreciated

Is it possible to hack the web UI of a Panasonic BL-C131A?

I have a couple of these cameras around the house for basic security and to watch our pets etc. The web user interface is garbage and horrible on a mobile device (i'm a web developer so I'm a snob about that stuff :). I'd like to "hack" it. I'm assuming it's a firmware hack. Not sure what would be involved, but it could be a fun project. However, i'm having trouble finding enough information online to get started. Anyone out there that has the resources to point me in the right direction or even lend a hand?

Is it possible to find and store the IP address information of anyone that visits your site?

I know there are sites and images that show your IP Address, browser, OS, possible location, etc. Could you have some way of writing this found information into a database, or would that be too much of a security flaw? I'm not talking about tracert commands, IP locators, etc. EDIT: Sorry if i wasn't clear enough for anyone, I was meaning something like a PHP, HTML or Java code that logs the visitors IP Address (And if possible, some other miscellaneous information) on a .txt file or something similar.

Live mice grown from stem cells (iPS)

According to a news article on Nature's Web site, two different research groups have grown live mouse clones using "induced pluripotent stem cells" (iPS). These are initially normal adult cells which are treated such that they revert to the same state as embryonic cells.
