Winter is approaching in Australia. I work in my home office and my computers and sometimes heater [or bread machine :)] keep the office warm. My cat likes to visit for a scratch several times a day. For this, the door must be openable otherwise i have to let the cat in and out. I have been keeping the door nearly closed which keeps the warmth in. However, my cat arrives and virtually bashes it open. The heat in the room is sucked out within minutes if I am distracted by work enough to not close the door ajar on entry or exit of cat. How can I add an upgrade to the door which will keep it closed-ajar if a cat or human uses the door. I would like to solution that can be disabled as in summer I would like the door to be open (which is working and does not need a solution to keep it open). The door is on equal balance (if that makes sense) and I would not like to modify the door hinges. (I had attached an image but must not have enough trust with this site for it to display). The door is a colonial door if you see pictures on google images.

Any idea's of keeping our troops cool in Iraq? Temperature rises to 100's during the day. Seems our government only has more cumbersome vests with (the lightest) cooling motors of 6 pounds and from what I gather can only be used in a vehicle.

Hi! I recently posted an instructable on rappelling. Some of the comment boxes on the pictures keep moving, and every time I move them back, they don't stay. I've heard that it is not unusual for that to happen in preview mode, but since this is a dangerous sport, I would like to make sure that the comment boxes are in the right spot. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey has anyone noticed that the instructables editor keeps adding tags to the programs in the code view, when the program is not HTML and when it comes to typing HTML in code view, all the HTML is rendered instead of outputting raw HTML. Is this a bug or there is another way around it that I'm not aware of. Thank You

I am trying to power a peltier module (3.9V 9A 21.3W). I have connected it to a DC power source at 3v and I keep getting a short. I have tried different voltages below the 3.9V and am still getting the same result. Am I approaching this at too basic a level?

Hello, I have a current problem with creating an instructable. Right now the draft keeps saving. this means I can't go to another step but I can add photo's and text to the page I am currently on. If I create a new tab with instructables he sees only the beginning of my draft which is a shame since that means I need to make the instructable all over again and I was very far. I am using chrome internet browser on a windows laptop I was simply saving what I had wrote down and now it keeps saving for already an hour and I can't do a thing.

I just got some soldering paste and I need to keep it cool. The temperature has to be above freezing, but still cool. Currently I'm keeping it in my fridge, but I don't want to keep it there once I break the seal (for safety reasons). I can't do that one mod using the 12 volt camper cooler, I don't have a camper cooler. I can't afford a mini-fridge. Just seeing if anyone here has any ideas. If nobody has any then I'm going to buy this USB micro fridge wwhich will keep it cool for $15.

I run the latest version of Google chrome on Linux mint 10, and after i log in, instructables soon logs me out sometimes less than an hour, i tried restarting chrome and the computer, and if i exit out the tab for instructables and reopen it from my bookmarks, im still loged in. it seems to kick me out in time. i have the "keep me logged in" checkbox enabled.

Spain's parliament has voted to give the rights to life and freedom to apes. Keeping apes for use in circuses, television commercials or for filming will be forbidden. Zoos are still OK, but many will have to improve their conditions in the future to keep apes.Right on. Link

Has anyone tried to set up a raspberry pi to intercept robot callers but let live people through?

I discovered this little "trick" (quite by accident) when I was grilling last week. Flies do not like onions! A few slices of raw, sliced red onion in the immediate vicinity of your food will keep disgusting flies from dining on your edibles. Onions are so effective, I'm tempted to make a pair of hoop earrings out of 'em! Maybe onion perfume? oh, the possibilities! ;-D

Recently i went to take pictures in the middle of the night at Subfreezing temperatures and the front of my lens formed ice. so i need to keep the lens warm, there are many solutions but the one i thought would be fun to use is the use of a heating element. I found resistance heating wire, i would like to make an object that could fit around my lens and keep it warm. to prevent overheating i will use a microcontroller with temperature sensors to cut of the supply of electricity at a certain temperature. i just want to keep the lens at more than 5 degrees centigrade. I think my 12v lead acid battery will be enough for this kind of project. My question is how to do it, how much heating wire should i use? how much heat will it make? what wire should i use? Will it work? Any other ideas are welcome.

I have had an instructable up for about a year here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-build-self-balancing-skateboardrobotsegway-/ The picture I upload and attach to the title page keeps working for about 3 days then is removed. Consequently my Instructable has no title page picture. I keep re attaching the image and it works OK for about 3 days then is automatically removed. It is my photograph, not taken from anyone elses website so not a copyright issue. What is the problem? I have just reattached the image again now but within 3 days it will have gone again. Best wishes Xenon John

Whenever I get into a group call on Discord or something, I just get the nagging feeling that I don't belong in some way. Like, I may feel that people aren't acknowledging my presence, or that they don't really care to talk towards me. Am I the only one who keeps feeling something like this, in these situations? And, what can I do about it?

I'm building an aeroponics system from scratch. When I water my roots in bursts of 3 to 5 minutes how can I be sure that the environment stays moist while I am away, I don't want the roots on my capsicum annuum to dry out. Is there anything I can line my 4" PVC tube with to keep it damp inside but without using soil or any geological material or perhaps and organic material that wont damage the cycle? Is this what aggregate is used for?

I'm about to go on an overnight canoeing trip with my scout troop, and we were wondering about the best way to keep our gear dry. I know that there are those dry bags that you can buy at places like REI, but I was trying to come up with a cheaper option. We'd be storing tents, food, personal gear, and backing stoves, and a few other things. If you have any ideas and methods you have previously tried, please tell me!

I saw these Orka hanging vegetable keep sacks and as I can't buy them (availability and the price are the issue) I was wondering if anyone has an idea or advice on how to make them yourself? http://www.thegreenhead.com/2011/08/vegetable-keep-sacks.php

The World Clock Project takes a creative look at time. By taking clocks from around the world they're mixing time-zones and still keeping a relative view. It's thought provocative to think about time and how important it is to the human experience. Time is our most valuable currency, it's really the only thing we have. So it's interesting to see how important keeping track of it has been, we've been using Obelisks as sundials for over 5000 years, some of the most ancient artifacts from egypt were built to keep track of time. It's good to see that The World Clock Project is keeping time on our minds. Give it a shot, upload your clock and let us know where it is[http://world clock project upload http://worldclockproject.org/]-bg

Hi there all you outdoorsmen and woman, just join this group and would like to find out if you have any tips on how to keep a tent (in my case a frame tent) from blowing away in windy conditions. I am mad about fishing, usually go fishing on weekends (Free State, South Africa), and had my problems with the wind blowing my tent down, hope you can assist and give me some tips. Regards Werner

I bought a new 2 cycle lawn mower in the spring. It worked fine, then it starting dying. I unscrewed the gas cap screwed it back on. It worked fine for a few turns. Died again. Figured cap needed to be vented. Now it dies continuously. Need some suggestions.
