Is the Wii Worth it?

I always thought the wii wasn't for me. I find a lot of elements...stupid and useless... I've had multiple chances to own a wii, but have turned them down... Lately a couple of good games have come out, but not enough to convince me to buy it though. So, do you think the wii is worth buying?

You would just have to add: also, check out Keith-Kid's FAQ to answer any other questions you might have.....I'm hoping that if its good enough, it can be made in to a sticky in the FAQ section.I'd like to thank Nachomahma, Kiteman, and Brenn10 for helping me get answers

My kid broke his arm, is getting a cast tomorrow, should I try to add some LED's?

My 6 year old broke his arm on friday night, they can't do a fiberglass cast until tomorrow. I was thinking what if I prewired an ultra bright LED and ask them to wrap it into the cast with just the led poking out. I was thinking I could decorate his cast to look like Buzz Lightyear's arm with a "laser". The wire could come out the top that I could connect a battery pack to so he can turn it on and off. Is this a good idea or not too smart? I'm trying to think of ways to make my son feel a little better about having a cast for 8 weeks.

I'm gonna make a pastel (pastelle?)

A pastel is a very sought after caribbean dish. Many people crave it because of its rarity, for you see, you need caribbean ingradients and caribbean know-how Those who can make these, can really impress their friends. I'm gonna make a pastel (pastelle??) instructable soon. I just wanted to ask, has anyone very eaten one? did you like it? Do you know stuff about it?

Very Important warning!! Read!

You might have noticed a couple of spam threads in the forums lately. For example, If you spot one a thread about shoe sales in the food section , you know it it spam.Report these threads and contact an Instructables Staff member.A few of these threads say that you could win free merchandise by clicking the links. It is very important that you do not click these linksSome of the links are proven spyware and adware sites. Ignore these links at all cost!!Besides, what are the chances that you actually won a free xbox 360?!

OK, Let's clarify some things....

1) OK, I will clarify this after it confused me for so much time. For those of you who didn't know,Eric and canida are marriedI tell you this to help you avoid all the stuff I went through. I saw a lot of things that pointed towards this fact, but nothing actually confirmed it. I didn't have the courage to ask here, if I was wrong, the embarrassment would be too much.... So there. What happened to Stasterisk?Star Simpson is a girl that strapped a fake bomb to her and tried to go through an airport. It was a circuit board with play doh attached to it in certain spots. She is currently a student at MIT, which explains the website url. So if you want to get more of an idea of who this Star Simpson girl is. Check outthis pageAnd this ibles postMy name is BryantAlthough, I think Gorillazmiko made that quite clear. Get over it.

Chatroom abuse

The Chatroom can be easily abused. The 'Warning" system does not have any requirements, which means that anyone can warn someone for no particular reason. Each time a person is warned more than 4 times in a row, that person is muted for a specific amount of time. Each 4 more warnings is punished by 5 minutes of being muted. Meaning that if someone is warned 8 times, that person will be muted for 10 minutes. Some persons are abusing this system and warning people for no reason. Yesterday, I was warned 32 times. Mostly it wasLittlechef37Okoshima.Linuxh4xor (3 times, as part of the fun. Still, you jerk)The consequence of their joking, was that I was muted over 5 times.....almost 25 minutes (not in a row though)This kind of people simply ruin the experience.I know the chatroom has nothing to do with instructables, just meebo. But because of those jerks, the 32 warnings will now follow me forever (the chatroom tracks your IP adress) and if I am warned in the future, the punishes will be more severe. (Permanent banning from the chatroom is actually possible if a member is warned too much)

Keith-Kid's version of: The Hitchhikers guide to.. The Earth!

I just read this forum topic, and wondered why it didn't go anywhere.I read all the negative and positive comments on it. I still think it is a great idea and a great way to get the community to work together even more.Quote from the original post: So here's the idea.I've been thinking how cool it would be to do a collaboration and create a giant travel guide. But not just an ordinary travel guide, one written by all instructables members. We have enough people on this site that we could get a pretty good start on it. I think the idea would spread fairly quickly. For example, I would write a brief something or other about my state (North Carolina), and then a full length guide for Boone, the university town that I live in. I would include basic information like population, size, etc., and also where I like to eat, what kind of tourist attractions are here, why ASU beat Michigan, etc. Some one else could add to what I wrote, and someone else could add a guide for the Charlotte/Denver area, and so on. For another state/province someone would just add a new step, etc.I realize it wouldn't be an Instructable, in the strict sense, but it would be helpful nonetheless. Not to mention we could have a lot of fun with it.What do you all think? What do the Instructables staff think about something like this? (In light of the fact that this is not a step by step guide to any one thing)Let the discussion begin. =)i know a lot of people would argue that this is a DIY site, not a travel site. And I know there are tons of other sites like this. But here are a few of my points about why this would be a good idea:Great way to get the community even more unitedAlthough wiki...whatever it was is great, anyone can edit and erase stuff. Instructables has a very careful community that watches out for this sort of thing. Not to mention the higher quality that comes from an entire community that cares, not just one or two honest people out of 100 prankstersGreat way to learn about diffrent cultures and interact with them. Instructables has helped me a lot in my school work. I've learned a bit from UK from kiteman, and a lot of people know that I ask for a lot of homework help in the forums! My point is that this site is mainly a self improvement center, not just for a house or project, all these things just help improve ourselvesI'm thinking that each step could be a place. If there are a lot of things from one same place, there would be a couple of different steps. We could have an index in the intro that links to each country's steps. We could provide a bit of history, culture, society and Pictures!Ok now you can talk

Help making this..

I want to make a sort of ball, to put my camera inside. The point would be to be able throw it, to get an "action" sort of look. I was thinking of making a ball or using some sort of plastic ball. The camera would be held in place by a screw. The inside of the ball would be filled with something to cushion the impact. Any ideas, suggestions or items already available?

Pardon?? (Update: some have been done)

A brief exchange between myself and Whatsisface utterly confused Keith-Kid, the poor bairn. That reminded me that, as well as the language confusion between English and American (we walk on pavements, you drive on them), there is a deeper, older division.I am from Cumberland. It's "Cumbria" now, but it's old - many of the town names are Icelandic and Viking in origin. Parts of the county were so insular that neighbouring valleys had different languages. The town of my birth is Workington - the name translates as "The town of the people of Worca" - the town, and the land around it, were a small tribal state, ruled by King Worca. So, I thought I'd lay down a little challenge. What do you think these traditional Cumbrian dialect words mean?Google if you must, but you're probably wasting your time...Thissen - yourself, youSneckShilliesHag wormSegsScruntTuppingUppies and downies - Traditional precursor to football. Played at Easter.Whisht - Quiet, be quiet - "Haud your whisht", Be quiet.Tod - Fox. You can also be "on your tod" = alone.

Ability to edit other's instructables if you're in the same group...

If your answer has been selected as a winner in the Burning Questions, you might have noticed the ability to edit other people's instructables, because you are in the same group. I believe this shouldn't be allowed, since anyone could vandalize someone else's work.

Instructables needs international character (letters) support!!!!!

Instructables currently does not support a lot characters from other languages. If you use a character from another language, instructables simply replaces it with some letters and symbols. Since the only other language I use here is spanish, I can only say this has happened to me when writing in spanish. The problem is, that without these characters (like diacritics and a certain spanish letter), many spanish sentences cannot be properly written, therefore altering its meaning. This problem has made it very difficult to use spanish in the site. Is it possible that the staff can do anything about this? Also, if anyone has experienced this problem in another language, please write it in this thread.

Free Rice

A lot of you probably already know about this, but I thought I would post it anyway. The site FreeRice.com is a fantastic charity site that helps fight world hunger through a game.I had heard of this a long time ago, but I never actually tried it until today. I researched a bit, and was very impressed by it, which is why I'm posting this. How it StartedFreeRice began on October 7, 2007. It was created by John Breen, a computer programmer from Bloomington, Indiana, who also created thehungersite.com, therainforestsite.com and Poverty.com. Breen invented the site, and typed in all 10,000 definitions, after observing his son study for the SAT.How it WorksVisitors to the website are presented with a word and four definitions. If a user selects the correct definition, FreeRice.com donates 20 grains of rice through the United Nations. Another word is then presented. Special graphics symbolizing 100 and 1,000 grains of rice are displayed on a graphical tally if the player's total reaches these numbers. Various landmarks are represented with different messages of encouragement such as: "You have donated 10,000 grains of rice. Wow! Now THAT is impressive!" after the 10,000th grain is donated, and after 20,000 grains, "You have donated 20,000 grains of rice. Wow! We're speechless!" After every ten thousand grains thereafter, the message "Wow! We're STILL speechless!" will appear. The last message of encouragement appears when you reach 100,000: "You have donated 100,000 grains of rice. May you have a lifetime of happiness..." and then the donation comes back at 0 grains. The difficulty of each displayed word is measured from 1 (easy) to 60 (very hard). The game begins with four introductory definitions to set an initial vocabulary level. From the fifth question onward, three consecutive correct responses raise the difficulty level by one. Every incorrect answer lowers the level by one. Users can play for as long as they wish. The game determines difficulty level dynamically by analyzing the results from all users' game play.A speaker icon has been added to each definition to provide an audio pronunciation of the word. How its possiblen exchange for advertisements on the website, various sponsors donate the money necessary to pay for the rice and other costs to run FreeRice. The donations are distributed by the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP), starting with Bangladesh in early 2008. By this time, the site's creator had given over $213,000 to the WFP which encourages people to visit FreeRice.com.For example, On 20 November the WFP launched a campaign to 'feed a child for Thanksgiving'.Has it Worked? One month after the inception of the viral marketing program, users had earned enough points for one billion grains of rice. The United Nation's World Food Programme stated that this amount could feed 50,000 people for one day. Thus, approximately 20,000 grains of rice provide enough caloric intake to sustain an adult for one day. Using this calculation, enough rice is donated to feed about 7,000 people daily. In its first six months of operation, FreeRice donated over 25 billion grains of rice.I think its a great cause, and truly a noble deed. So, when you're bored, instead of playing solitaire because you need something to do, why not help feed those who truly need something?By helping this cause, you are also helping yourself. Since the game consists of word definitions, you might be suprised

When you hover over it, it gives you the option to delete the image.

Issue with Groups and Profiles

When you look at someone's profile, all the groups they are in are presented. The problem is, that when I want to see orangeboards, I have to scroll down through all the groups they are part of. This is a problem when looking at profiles of people like Kiteman and Goodhart, who seem to be part of every single group!I think it might be a good idea to show the groups like Favorites, that is, a small portion presented, because not many people want to see all the groups someone is part of. So, it should be presented like Favorites, a small portion first, then the option to view pages that list all the groups.Any thoughts on this?

Contests for Kids?

Ok, why shouldn't there be a contest, for kids 0-16 year olds... this is because many contests contains electric things like circuit boards and programming where many kids like me cannot understand at all! Also, why couldn't kids enter most contests, such as the back to school contest. This is why I believe there should be contests or challenges that  kids can enter.  Comment below if you have any suggestions or disagreements.

Teachers, parents, educators: Where do you stumble?

Hello Instructables! I currently run a small business in which company teachers travel to local elementary schools and teach project based engineering. For us, it's second nature. But I recently learned that it's not always so easy to implement project-based learning in the home or at school. What are you challenges in this arena? Is it getting the right materials? Finding good instruction? Making something scalable to a 30-student classroom? Let me know so I can learn how to better help the community :) Lance

Thinking about creating a Tesla coil with my kids

I'm thinking about making a tesla coil with my gang of kids. We have done experiments with inductance (made a motor) and capacitance (Leyden jar).  Oddly enough I'm slightly nervous dealing with that amount of voltage.  Any thoughts?

Recommend any soldering kits for kids, ages 9-12?

I volunteer for Sonoma County 4-H and want to do electronic kits for our kids, ages 9-12. Please recommend any electronic kits that kids of that age may do (with parents help) and would be fun to use. For example, the Simon kit from Sparkfun is a great project for kids, whth some help from parents.
