I was browsing through my new December 2007 PC World today, and in the article "Seize the Web" I found pictures of Kipkay's site and several of his videos. I'll try to scan these to get some pictures up, but take a look at the December 2007 issue of PC World, page 110. Congrats Kipkay!

Kipkay gets a nice mention in this New York Times piece Making Money, the How-To Way. Congratulations! Learning how to turn a flashlight into a laser is not a top priority for most people. Yet Kip Kedersha's step-by-step instructional video that teaches how to do just that has been seen online by more people (1.88 million) than live in Manhattan (about 1.6 million).Mr. Kedersha's online library of 94 videos includes tips on how to chill a Coke in two minutes, simulate a gunshot wound and start up a PC quickly.

Hello from Arizona! I'm switching my career from Computers to Medical and will be taking an EMT course. One of the things you MUST be able to do is take blood pressure. To do so, however, you need to be able to hear the pulse through a stethoscope. Unfortunately, I have a slight hearing deficit. I've seen the KipKay video and would like something like this, but it needs to fit (sorta) into a regular stethoscope format. I can't have external boxes & wires hanging off of it. Would someone be so kind as to help me lay something out with suggestions on parts, etc.? Commercial versions of this start at $250, so if I can get away w/it for <$50> or so it'd be great! Thanks for any help. Scott, Lake Havasu City, AZ

Television show "Friday night live" whom features internet clips, tonight played a small snippet in which they tried KipKay's advise and managed to chill their coke's in the said time frame. They played the whole clip, including his fridge obsessed cat.Not all that exciting, yet was interesting to see someone of the DIY community make TV here. Now if only he was to do an I'ble on it."Have you ever forgotten to stock your fridge."It's like pure poetry.Videoinvalid movie: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=dc9BHiQUpWUSorry for the picture quality. So far i could pick up a harborfrieght motion deviceand mod it; or i could use the 10$pir modulefrom radioshack.A 15$ motion module with a trigger is the goal, lets see if we can do itedit: could i use the pir as a replacement for the std switch?.......i think so but i need someone who knows for sure, if you need a diagram for the PIR

Will this work? it's based on https://www.instructables.com/id/SCYCBXQFD80BUXI/Basically, what it should do, is when I aim the IR emitter (TV remote) at it, it'll go off for a few seconds. The goal is to hide it and piss off whoever is watching TV, and changing channels.

So I am doing a big modifiction of Kipkay's burning laser project. I am making it into a gun, and the only resistor I can find is a 4.7. Will that do? I have a 5mw module like his, and a 250mw 650nm laser diode. Also I am going to use two C-batteries, so its 12volts total.

Question by Jojo007407 10 years ago | last reply 8 years ago
So I have a 5mw laser diode module that I am trying to get open so that I can install a 250 mw diode in its place. Problem is, the diode won't come out, the manufacturer glued it in, and I keep buying new modules from different sellers only to find inexplicably the stupid diode backing slathered in glue. Is there a way of getting this thing out? I don't care if the diode is broken, I don't need it, but I want the driver intact.

Is it just me, or does kipkay (and a lot of the maker community in general, but I noticed it most with kipkay) have a suspiciously creepy amount of spying makes. Just curious about the rules of the book contest (and other contests) I noticed that Kipkay has some of his instructables entered in the book contest. Just wondering since Kipkay works for Make if this was entirely fair; I mean most contests don't allow people even remotely affiliated with the entity running the contest to participate. Not saying that I necessarily have a problem with it; just pointing it out.

Remember the 3d glasses that everyone got for the commercial Monsters vs. Aliens during the Superbowl this year (09)? They were paper, blue colored, mnfctrd by Intel, and the "lenses" were amber and some kind of dark blue. What I was wondering was if that blue was Congo blue (LEE C181, like in Kipkay's IR goggles ible), so I could use them in making nightvision goggles. Info that might help - patent number 6687003

I need a diode to make a burning laser (Kipkay's ible), but I don't know where to start when it comes to looking for free DVD burners (from a computer repair shop? where?) to get it from. I also need a LM317T chip for the driver, which I've heard is in the burner. Does anyone know a place in San Jose CA to get that? Preferably free, as in discarded.

What do you think of the new weekend projects with kipkay at MAKE? I personally really don't like them. Coming home on a friday to relax, watch a new project that starts turning the gears in your head to create something really imaginative. Now I come home to a droll (yet clear) voice that you don't even want to sit through the whole project. I do not get the creative inspiration from the new ones as from the bre ones. everything bre made had potential for creative add ons. Mousey the junkbot, that is so cool and easily branch off of. Beam bots, inspiring for creative electronics? Theremin, intro to a cool instrucment, that goes for the mellophone too etc.etc.etc I don't need a video to make something look uglier, bigger, fatter, less portable that sucks hours out of my free time. Cutting a book to put something in it. On the popular video areas bre did it, but made it imaginative kipkay did it, but sexy in the front, I mean come on Kipkay did it AGAIN except for taking off of the cases of electronics, taking out connectors and hard wiring everything instead, where's the imagination! I mean I could see if you made it better than before, but come on!!! anyone's thoughts?

Greetings all, Longtime browser, first time poster. I watched Kipkay's video on using a cellphone with one side of a pair of binocs to create a sort of zoom lens and at that precise moment my dog began barking at some critter outside. This made me wonder if I could attach a night vision monocular to a camera or camcorder. I have an assortment of cameras at my disposal, I am a proud garbage picker, after all, and a nice NV monocular somewhere in storage. Kipkay merely positioned the cell phone camera in the right spot on the binoc lens and was able to see a reasonable image. Has anyone tried anything like this with night vision? If the idea is sound I'll dig out my gear and made a stand to keep it all together and post it as an instructable.

I used an LM386 audio amp with its usual circuitry to amplify signals from an iPod headphone jack, but the sound quality is terrible. I have tried powering the circuit with a nine volt battery, and with a wall wart, and, although sound quality was better with the battery, it was still pretty bad, and not very loud. I have tried different LM386 chips, and a speaker that I know is of decent quality, and the sound is still bad. I have also used a filtering capacitor in series with the decent speaker, and the quality was okay, but the sound was very faint. Sometimes with the wall wart I got a weird buzzing noise, and with either the battery or the wall wart I often get unpredictable gain from the amp and bad sound. My speakers are around 2-21/2 inches in diameter, and around 10 Ohms, and the decent speaker is of unknown dimensions and around 9 Ohms. I also tried one of Kipkay's homemade speakers, and, no offense Kipkay, but it all went badly after that, probably because my homemade speaker was only 4 Ohms, when it should have been 8 ( The speaker is not Kipkay's idea, he credits it to Jose Pino, from Make Magazine, vol. 12). I'm also using generic 24 guage wire, not speaker wire, could that be the problem? Please help! Thanks! P.S. I tried to make one of those big LED's sync to the music, but ended up burning it out with the wall wart, will the smoke hurt me? Thanks!

On certain cameras, DVD players, VCR players it has the red, yellow and white "out", if I were to have a spy camera with the yellow and white "out" how would I record that in the space of a largish pocket? Kipkay's Instructable features the exact same style of camera (go here www.instructables.com/id/Covert-Spy-Sunglasses/)Pic is of my one, not my picture though (sorry). Red is for power.

When Kiteman said that Kipkay made money with videos, I was interested in doing this as well. I need to get some cash fast, and I am neither old enough to work or have parents rich enough to give me a decent allowance. How can you make money off of videos? If you can tell me from experience, by all means do so.
