I heard a laser could shut down cameras. How do I know if one is used on my cameras to protect my house.

After reading this, and then this, I started thinking of how easy it would be to make a burning laser. I went to Radioshack, got some components, and started thinking. One thing that Stephanie's laser didn't have is a potentiometer, to control the power of the laser. Well, I ended up getting 12 assorted pots at Radioshack, but didn't know what one to use. I want decent control, too. What size (in ohms or k-ohms) do you think I need? I'm spotty in my electronics knowledge. PS- The size in ohms on the pot is the pot's range, right? If it says 100k, it means that it will resist from 0 to 100 kilo ohms, right? Also, in the shematic below, I don't know if the pot is connected correctly, post a comment if it's wrong.

My dad has an old plotter that I plan on converting into a laser cutter, and I was wondering how powerful the laser needs to be in order to cut thin metal (its ok if it can do it in multiple passes). Where could I get a cheap one? Thanks LinuxH4x0r

Hi, I would like to put together a laser rangefinder, with LCD display, that can measure distance to the objects out to about 600y, with accuracy of +/- 1 y. I know absolutely nothing about electronics. Can somebody tell me what components would I need? regards, dejan

I know scientist have created lasers that can cut but how much money would it take to make one? and what materials would be need? and... what kinds of materials would be laser resistance, not effected by a laser... or would that depend on the lasers stength?

Hello (excuse my English really bad I'm Belgian and French) I would like to cut aluminum sheet of + - 5 mm thick and also cut paper without "burning the edges" I would like to know what kind of "laser head" the cheapest possible exists and what would be even better, whether this kind of "laser head" is recovering ... I was thinking of a DVD laser burner but, even though I I'm as good at DIY as an elephant is good at skydiving, I guess a DVD burner will not cut aluminum ... A big thank-you

I have a laser diode that needs between 3.7v and 4.2v to run, http://www.laserlands.net/gd-ms-200mw-green.html and i plan to run it of an arduino (5v). to reduse the voltage i have calculated that i need a resistance of aproximately 1.333ohm. is this necessary/is there a bether way to do this? thank you in advance for any answer!

Link to buy the plans to make your own (would be cool for the Robot Challenge, i am thinking about it) March 6, 2008 Stephen Hobley saw Jean Michael Jarre play his highly theatrical Laser Harp live 22 years ago and vowed heââ¬â¢d build one just like it. Heââ¬â¢s just ironed out the bugs and you can see him play it here. Whatsmore, he has detailed the entire construction process on the Internet. He reckons anyone can build one for under US$600 after purchasing his US$19 Laser Harp Plans and Source Code.

Hey guys, I can imagine this question being asked a few times, but google did not provide good results. ANyways, I have a CD drive, CD burner, and DVD drive and wanted to build myself one of those nifty laser pointers that can burn matches almost instantly. Which one will have the strongest laser to do this with? I'm assumign either the CD burner or the DVD. so which should I tear into?

Hi all!So, I have been volunteering at an animal hospital in my home town, and I have been allowed to observe 11 surgeries so far, 4 of which have been performed with this 30 Watt CO2 Surgical Laser. I would like it if someone could explain to me how a CO2 laser works, and I would be willing to answer any questions. the surgeries I have watched are: (1) a spay on a dalmatian (2) an entropion correction on a bullmastiff (3)a cauterization of a bleeding tail tip (without anesthetic & with me holding the dog down!) and (4)a front declawing of a cat.

Help help help! Ive just fitted a 15w laser to my cnc 3018 and I cant get the laser to switch to low power mode. It just wants to burn everything! How do I fix it? Ive attached two pictures, one of the laser and one of the board. The board is a woodpecker GRBLO 9. Please if anyone can help me I would be eternally great full.

So im making a laser spirograph (https://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-Spirograph/#step1) and i just got my laser diode to come out of its case, and i was wondering where i should solder the red and black wire as it does not look like the one in the 'ible. the laser diode looks like this one here http://10mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) (i would take a pic of the diode but i cant find my camera!) the only difference in the diodes is that mine has a black button instead of the red. Oh and one more thing is that it has to bypass the use of the button. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

A member PM'd me with this question, "hi im asking if i can use the arduino micro controller in distance measuring using laser" My response was "Laser distance is the time of flight of a pulse of light pulse that travels 3 feet in a single nanosecond..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_rangefinder Do you think the Arduino can execute instructions at a fraction of a nanosecond ? What is the clock frequency of an Arduino ? . Take care of your eyes when using lasers !

I recently came across a HeNe (Helium Neon) Laser module, probably from some medical equiptment. it has no power supply, but im in the process of acquiring one. Does anybody Have any suggestions for what i should do with it? it will be my first post, but definitely not my first project. i'm not accustomed to working with lasers, so any help would be appreciated. Hey I read something somewhere about how to make a Laser from a DVD burner. Ive seen the lasers from DragonLasers and WickedLasers and I want one, but because of the price I thought maybe it would be better to make one myself. This is the DVD burner I intend to use: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/111Y366TSDL._AA160_.jpgPlease reply to make ASAP with any advice on how to do this.I am not very good at electronics or anything like that, this is the first time Ive done my own little project like this.Thanks.

I am trying to create 8 motorised lasers that move (ideally randomly) between a 135Ë angle. I doubt with my level of knowledge i will be able to make them move randomly but if i can't just moving back and forth between the 135Ë would have to do.These motors would have to be reversable and travel between 2 points making an arc of 135Ë, I'm looking at making this in the cheapest way possible. By mounting cheap pen lasers onto mini motors and somehow getting them do this. I will need to see the beams of light so unless i can find a better way to used focused light cheaply, i'll have to use a smoke machine or something. Having no real knowledge of this, would it be easily achievable, i would use a microcontroller to make the motor movement random within that 135 degrees but i have no idea how i'd go about it.

I was playing through my older Splinter Cell games the other day, and had my airsoft pistol next to me. I had attached a laser pointer on it, mostly for kicks and giggles. While playing Splinter Cell, I turned off a security camera by shooting it with some sort of laser from my FiveseveN and it gave me an idea. I decided that I'd like to make a simpler version of this for a scenario airsoft game. So my question for you guys is, is it possible to make a laser tripwire that can be turned off by aiming a laser pointer at some sort of sensor on it? If so, how much would materials cost me, and how difficult would it be to assemble? Could it be pulled off by someone with little electronic experience like myself? Thanks in advance!

Hi all Thinking about putting a project together based on some of the great instructables on here. Can anyone shed any light on how much power I will need for a laser that will engrave slate? I am not sure whether a diode laser will be up to the job or whether it will have to b a co2 laser. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello everybody, I'm sorry if this is already explained in an instructable, but I can't seem to find one... My question is, is there a way to make a laser pointer from the laser thingy inside an old cd-writer or an old hard drive (that both still work) ? Thanks

I am searching for a circuit which can drive a siren circuit like this and can be activated by a laser pointer.I have tried a lot of these circuits but all had the same problem:The siren sounds only for a few seconds(As long as the interruption of the laser beam...) Thank you in advance!
