Light saber room light modification

I got 2 Remote control Light Saber room lights for Christmas. http://unclemilton.com/star_wars_science/#/rc_lightsaber/ I want to mount them crossed, like a crest, but I want them to be operated independently. Both Remotes control both lights. I would like to be able to Change frequency? or something to make the remotes specific for the lights, so they can be changed/turned on and off independently. Any ideas?

mini STROBE LIGHT ideas???

I'm looking to make a small strobe light unit. I once saw them in the Target bargain for $2.50 around "Back to School" time in the Fall. I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to modify the strobe unit from a disposable camera and turn it into a working disco type strobe light?

Whippy Light: For Greens Who Like to Blind Themselves

This clever light fixture takes the shape of the CFL and manages to incorporate it very well. Of course, the problem is that this only looks good when it's not lit. Turning ti on to, say, light the room will quickly turn this from a conversation piece into a bright nuisance.Nice idea, tho. Link

light following robots

Its like one of the first things any kid lucky enough to take a robotics class learns is how to make a robot that either turns towards or follows a light source the funny thing is the are no instructables that i could find for making light following robotsif i'm correct the robot contest is still going i would defiantly vote for some one who makes a light following robot (especially if its 555timer powered http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/03/a_555_timer_based_lights.html)

Light acrylic edges from top instead of edges?

I know plexiglass can be lit from the edges using LEDs, but I'm trying to create something where all 4 edges of a square piece of plexiglass are lit. Is there a way to light the edges from the top/bottom of a piece of plexiglass?

Flourscent Light Sickness

Every time I walk into Wal-Mart or Home Depot, I get sick because of the fluorescent light. The problem is, almost every large retailer uses fluorescent lighting. I get migraines, and queasiness. It has a great impact on my life. I was only curious to see if anyone else on instructables had such a sickness. If you do have such a sickness, what Do you do about it? My new school has all fluorescent lighting. -sunglasses? -migraine medication? (although that would not do much for the sick to the stomach feeling) I call it Wal-Mart sickness.

LEDS

I am wondering if you run a led at full voltage and amps then as you add more resistance light output goes down here is my question 1 led at 20ma or 2 led at 10ma do not 2 leds give more light than 1. Like is light output a linear taper to amount of current applied or is it more of an audio taper?

How Would I Make A Light-Proof Air Vent, Please?

Hi - thanks for stopping by. I am in the process of making a dark-room for my photography. It is stuffy in there and I have an air-vent which lets in light. I would like to make a cardboard box (or something) that I can put over the air-vent so that air can flow freely but will still not allow light to venture through. I would appreciate anyone with any ideas please ;-) regards Kevin

Cutting off the top of a light bulb

Hello! I'm having a problem and have ruined quite a bit of incandescent light bulbs over it: I need to open the thing just below the thread and I have no idea how. I've tried doing it with an X-acto knife, but it never breaks evenly, and usually, there are tiny cracks along the edge. Anybody out there have experience doing this and any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance :)

Wind energy to light up a car top sign?

Any help here would greatly be appreciated. I work at a pizza delievery place where we use car top signs. In order to light up the signs we must plug it into the cig.lighter. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to use the wind from the car moving down the road to power the light in the sign to free up the cig. ligher for other things( Sirius radio). I have absolutely no idea on how to go about this. Anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it.

Lighting a background surface

Hello everyone,  I've been looking for options to light a surface for a garment.  I would like to obtain some sort of EL panel effect with something simpler.  I have never worked with EL panels, and they seem really complicated to use for me. Is there anything I can use to make a surface lit?  Is it possible to have a surface of 10 x 15 inches lit, that's portable without huge amounts of power? Thank you for your help. All the best,  Jen.

Blinking LED lights in a series

I need to make a board with LED lights that blink on and off in a series. It would need an easy on and off switch and I would need to be able to choose what direction the blinking would go (left to right, right to left). If this is an easy project, any help would be great. Thanks, BradTheses pictures are what I need the first one would be ok ,the second even better. Would this workhttp://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/projects/heart.htmIf so, how much would this cost in the US or how much would someone want in order to build something similar. If someone could make the circuits I could attach the lights to the board. Any ideas out there?

how can I make this pendant light?

I need a creative lighting solution to replace an old fixture with a pull chain, there is no switch in the wall to turn it on and off. I would like to safely build a light similar to the ones pictured.  I have rewired lamps in the past and this seems like it might be a similar project, but with a few adjustments like strain relief components as well. I have found several companies that sell keyed sockets with uno threads to attatch shade holders. There are also great reproduction cloth covered wires available. I have 2 great glass 2 1/4" shades I would love to use. If its possible to make 2 lights that can be operated by a key in their sockets so that the can be turned on and off individually, but wired together, and run through the same canopy and connected to the same box that would be ideal. Can anyone help me with this?

Instructable for building a proper light-tight box?

I tried searching for "dark box," "light box," "film box," "film processing," even for pinhole cameras. I couldn't find an I'ble which directly teaches how to make a high-quality light-tight box (felt lined, gasketed locking lid, etc.). Did I just choose poor keywords? Do any of the photo-gurus here know whether such an I'ble exists? For a couple of single-photon Physics I'bles I'm working on, I've realized that asking people to seal up a whole room and make it totally light-tight is ridiculous and impractical. I ought to get the same effect with a dark-box using a good viewport and head shroud. Rather than writing a whole I'ble myself, I'd rather cross-reference something which already exists.

Polarized Lights and Laptops

I was taking apart a laptop's LCD screen and found that sandwiched between the light source and the liquid crystal display were what appeared to be a vertical and horizontal polarized filter. Why is this? I always got the impression that LCD displays had the polarizers attached to the screen itself. Why would there be an extra set of polartization filters behind the screen? Or... am I just plain wrong in thinking the polarization is on the LCD itself? Could these be the only polarization filters? I have searched all over the internet for the answer to these questions, but I think I am just more confused. If these are extra polarization filters, the only thing I can imagine that they are doing is making the screen darker. Any ideas?

Please looking for recommend on the best bike light DIY on Instructables!

Hello, Subject pretty much says all. I'm getting dizzy going through all the bike lighting projects here on Instructables :) Could anyone recommend a good setup that is : 1) Relatively low cost 2) Easy to do 3) Bright 4) Uses standard AAA or AA type batteries (already have these and great charger) 5) Possibly shared system for headlight and flashing tail light This is on a newer urban type bike, so I'd like something I can tie down pretty well. Been using the old hose clamp and 1 LED flashlight for a few years. It's not very good. Thanks for any pointers!

Flashlight Belt Buckle!

I just joined Instructables, so hi everyone. How are you. Anyways, I had a most wonderful idea to share with you all. A flashlight that also functions as a belt buckle, and vice versa. Basically a headlamp light turned into a  belt, or just attached to a belt. This was you can see where you're walking/running when you are being chased through a forest by zombies.

Fluorescent Lamp

Here is an art project from some designers that I came across and have been trying to reverse engineer. If anyone has any idea's on how to power and connect the fluorescent tube it would be greatly appreciated! Here is a description from the web:  Design duo Mischer’Traxler, Wien | Austria, started their project to focus on light sources and came up with the idea to combine two lamps into one. This way they created a new design that uses a energy-efficient fluorescent tube bulb and gives the lamps a whole new character. The name of this lamp is ‘Relumine‘ and plays on the fact that we all have to switch from old light bulbs to new energy saving light sources. The fun and challenge is to combine different type of lamps, like a hanging pendant with a floor lamp, a floor lamp with a desk lamp or different heights and hardware. Each Relumine uses two, discarded lamps, which are disassembled, sanded, newly lacquered and adapted with newer technology, before they are connected by a glass tube which holds the fluorescent tube. Together these two lamps need less energy than each one in its previous life.

Lasers on motors

I am trying to create 8 motorised lasers that move (ideally randomly) between a 135˚ angle. I doubt with my level of knowledge i will be able to make them move randomly but if i can't just moving back and forth between the 135˚ would have to do.These motors would have to be reversable and travel between 2 points making an arc of 135˚, I'm looking at making this in the cheapest way possible. By mounting cheap pen lasers onto mini motors and somehow getting them do this. I will need to see the beams of light so unless i can find a better way to used focused light cheaply, i'll have to use a smoke machine or something. Having no real knowledge of this, would it be easily achievable, i would use a microcontroller to make the motor movement random within that 135 degrees but i have no idea how i'd go about it.

Flood Blacklight?

I know there is already some similar posts but i couldnt find anything relating specifically like this. I got a flood light with the intention of turning it into a flood black light. I want to light up a basketball court sized room using 4 at most. I have a few questions: 1) Is there any way to add anything to the front to turn this in to a black light (Don't need it to be UV rays as I know it's not likely. I just want it to make things fluoresce when it shines on them)? I'm looking at doing something similar to the sharpie black light hack. 2) This light puts good clear light for more the 40 yards. If there were a way to mod it into a black light, how much will it affect the range of good light? 3) Is there any way to connect the lighting to a battery pack or some sort of regular 3 pronged plug?

Help making an LED Camcorder light attachment!

What information would I need to provide to an enterprising designer to have an LED light created to fit this camcorder? I can go dig it out of storage and give measurements, and any other information necessary. I would really appreciate any help!
