Lighting?

I need to find a way to light 20 paper lanterns hung from a gymnasium ceiling. I need to accomplish this without having 20 cords hanging down. I'm a novice. This is for my daughters wedding.

Automated Lighting?

Hi there, I am renting a place for my new office for 3D animation and I wanted to make an automatic lighting system to turn on lights when I'm in a room and off when I move to another room. How easy/hard is it to do that? And what do I need to make my light switch on and off slowly? Cheers, Shawin.

Key Light

Ok so I used to have this key cover that had a tiny light, kind of like those crappy led key chain flashlights except that it actually fit on to the key. It would light up by pressing a button while trying to find the keyhole to put the key in. It was actually really handy.... I'd like to make one myself now that its broken but I'm horrible with electronics and would probably manage to blow something up without knowing what I'm doing. Can somebody make me an instructable for this?

Musical Lights

Hey, I recently saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd3hzYAJzOo&w; and i want to make that. I read the schematic at http://www.uploderx.net/dphrag/SCHEMATIC1___PAGE1444.jpg (that link doesn't work, use this one: http://www.buildlounge.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/xy88F.jpg  for it, but, I'm still quite confused. The parts that are the most problematic to me are the high, low, and mid pass filters. i  don't understand what they are, and how there made. If anyone could help me, thank you.

Brake lights

So i have a '95 chevy suburban, and it has a few issues. at the moment, the biggest issue is my brake lights. Basically, when the vehicle is in accessory and i depress the brake peddle, my brake lights come on, YAY! but when i have the vehicle running and i depress the brake peddle, the 15 A fuse blows and the lights go out. now i have a schematic diagram for the whole vehicle (in parts), but im still trying having a hard time finding where my problem is. im sure there is a short somewhere but it is just all really confusing to me. thanks much in advance. note: night time lights work as well as all turn signals.

Circuitry for lighting

Hey all, I have never really done much circuitry to this date, but I was hoping to make a fairly complex lamp that may require a good dose of it. What I'm looking to do is wire four cold cathode tubes (12V, the kind that are used to light computers), as well as two LED lights with arduino based flicker control, and run them off of a wall socket? The pictures are a (very) rough sketch of the setup, as well as a supply list. Is there any way someone could explain what this might require to me in baby terms? All the best, Adrian

I like the idea of led;s because they make no buzzing . Maybe someone got any ideas? Thanks

Night light

Hi all, I'm newcomer to this "club", and am looking for some help, please. I'm looking for details of how to make a night light, with a rotating element with designs (people, animals, trees, plants etc) either cut out of it, or painted on it. The rotating element is powered by the warm air coming off the top of the globe. The rotating element should be able to be "dropped into" position. Sorry I have nothing further at this stage!! Vertigo Lights

A few years ago I was attending a Halloween attraction where a conversation started about seeing a red skull.  We asked a few of the actors and I got the name of the attraction's special effects person.  What we were seeing was a programmable sheet of red LEDs that would flash so fast that you could only see the after image.  The F/X guy called it Vertigo Lights.  I understand the concept, but wondered if anyone has come across anything like this.  Could this be controlled by an arduino, or would a program need to be written to control all of the lights simultaneously?  I haven't been able to find anything like it in any of my searches. Any clues would be great!

Lightning lighting

OK I got one for you all! What I would like to achieve is a realistic lightning effect for Halloween displays. I've tried some different ideas, but none can give me a realistic effect. Most produce a timed effect (2 sec on, 2 secs off, 2 on, 2 off etc...) What I think I would need would be a circuit board or something like that, that would produce a random current to a strobe light source (ie. 1 sec on, 3 secs off, 2 on, 6 off, 1 on 5 off etc...) Could this be done? I've searched all over the internet and haven't been able to come up with anything. Thanks! Wes

Led light

I'm struggling understanding what im really needing and could use some guidance... I'm tring to build a underwater fishing light that has 36 3watt green leds.  I'm going to only be powering them when the engine is off and the batteries aren't being charges... it will run off a standard 12volt marine battery... the led specs are ' green (510-530nm):DC Forward Voltage:3.4V~3.8V Forward Current: 700mA'.  what would be the best way to power these leds... im assuming that I need to power in series groups of 3. but with such a wide voltage of 3.4 to 3.8... do I just shoot for the middle? do I use 12v in my calculation or do u use like a 12.5 or 13 like it sometimes checks.... Can I get by powering it with just resistors or do I need a led driver? I have entered my data in some of the calculaters online and it says I need a 2.2 resister but gives warnings... and doesn't say what watt resistor... does it matter... first project ... confussed to say the least thanks

Lighted Wand

So, I've had an idea I wanted to try and make but i have no experience with electronics and was hoping to do it all with hardware only, no software. The idea is this, I have a wand which has an LED strip (like a lightsaber, but a lot smaller) which connects to two buttons/switches. First button/switch if held down it will pulse/glow the LED at the base of the wand (charging up spell) and when you release it "shoots" up the LED strip (like you're firing a spell). Second switch just lights the LED at the tip of the wand, making it like a torch (LUMOS).Any ideas on how I could achieve such a feat? Point me in the right direction? I have knowledge on how to solder and such and have taken very basic electronics. Currently trying to make a lightsaber, hoping to get some experience so I can make my eventual goal, the wand. Most of the instructables I've seen so far have been very simple with a single LED at the end.Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Flourscent Light Sickness

Every time I walk into Wal-Mart or Home Depot, I get sick because of the fluorescent light. The problem is, almost every large retailer uses fluorescent lighting. I get migraines, and queasiness. It has a great impact on my life. I was only curious to see if anyone else on instructables had such a sickness. If you do have such a sickness, what Do you do about it? My new school has all fluorescent lighting. -sunglasses? -migraine medication? (although that would not do much for the sick to the stomach feeling) I call it Wal-Mart sickness.

About the components of light ?

I just learnt that light consists of electric and magnetic fields oscillating at right angles to each other . Now my question is that why can't the electric and magnetic components of light interact with matter. For example why does not the magnetic component in light interact with a external magnetic field and bend toward or away from it. Also how do we tell the direction of magnetic and electric fields in light . I know that this question might seem really dumb , but i seem to have a great difficulty in understanding light and would be really satisfied if some could give or direct me to a detailed explanation. Thanks in advance ..
