"I Made It!" Madness!

Anyone who posts a new "I Made It!" between today (March 13, 2018), and April 15, 2018 will be eligible to receive a new Instructables notebook and carpenter pencil. For those new to the site, an "I Made It" is a special type of comment that you can post on an instructable to show that you followed the directions and made it yourself. You can find the big orange "I Made It!" link at the end of any instructable. Post a picture of your brand new "I made it" in the comments below and also a link to the project where you have shared it. On April 16 we will be selecting 20 people at random who shared their "I Made It!" below to receive these gifts.

What is this made out of? Answered

I'm wanting to build these microphone props for a play , but this Instructable is really vague, only providing a loose list of components and no sizes. The one thing I can't figure out for myself, however, is what the outer circle is made of. I figured those curved bits were PVC, but a search through Lowes didn't turn up anything that looked like that. What are those things?

home made tattoos

Hi everybody! I'm thinking of getting a home made tattoo. I've been looking through various home made tattoo gun designs, but as the tattoo design I have in mind is rather big I'm thinking there might be an easier way than having to "dot" it out.. So, theoretically, could one make a cut in the skin (about maybe ten inches long) with say a razorblade, and then just rub the ink into the cut? I don't wanna seem like a moron here. I know it's a risky procedure, but if it could work and I would go through with it, is there something special I should take into consideration? And what would I use for ink? I've seen the term "indian ink" used on several forums, but I'm not from the US and I don't know if the stores here in sweden even carry that stuff. Anyways, I know this may sound like a real stupid idea, but if I ever get a tattoo it's gonna be one I made myself. That's the whole idea.

I made a storenvy

Hello Friends! Well, in my last forum I said I would start an online store, and I did. Yay, go me. I made a storenvy called twostars (http://twostars.storenvy.com/). I am currently selling, the whale, dragon, Espeon, and a bag I made using the crocodile stitch. If you like what I make, but can't crochet yourself, this is a great place to get them. For the dragon and bag, I have tons and tons of color options to make is super customize-able. If you have any suggestions on what else I should make and sell there, I would love love love to hear them. Enjoy your day and don't forget to do that one thing you have been putting off doing.

Home-made UPS? Answered

I recently acquired a very large 12V SLA battery and want to make a UPS for my computer. I think I have the basic idea, but I'm not entirely sure how I would go about this. I'm guessing I could use a relay to switch from the mains to battery, but then I would need a very large capacitor to run the equipment for a few milliseconds whilst it switches. I would need a separate transformer and regulator for the relay, and also an inverter for the battery, which I will probably buy as it looks like it would be too hard to make. Is this the right approach to it?

Made By Me *UPDATE*

I'm sure many of you have seen the latest Facebook meme that's going around: Made by Me.It goes like this:Made By MeThe first five people to respond to this post will receive something made by me.This offer does have some restrictions:- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.- It will be made just for YOU.- It will be done this year (2009).- It will be something made in the real world and not something over the internet.- It might be art. It might be craft. It might be food.In return, all you need to do is post this text into a note of your own and make five things for five other people.etc. etc.Well, a carpenter I know posted this recently, and I just could not resist something hand-made by this guy. He once made some kind of wooden whirly gig from medieval prints he'd seen. I couldn't resist! So I reposted, and got my five (+) responses, and I'm going to keep you all posted on what I'm making for them! I'll instructablize all of the projects, and probably make some sort of "Made by Me" guide. If you're on facebook, I encourage you to join this thread, and pass it along! If you're not, and you're interested, try to start an email thread. Come back to get inspiration for your gifts, and make sure to post your own results!Let me know what you've done!***** UPDATE ***********************************************************I think what I failed to mention here, is that this is a neat idea to share with your friends. I would not want a stranger to respond to my posting, and I wouldn't respond to a stranger's. Mostly because I don't want crap. I want to make cool stuff I know my friends will like and get cool stuff made by my friends. If you try this out and get people you don't know responding to you, I would just ignore them! Or put something in the main text about how this is for people you know ONLY!Good luck!

Shop made bench power supply.

Hello I have an atx dual sata 550 watt power supply... I have seen a bunch of instructables on here that allow just a few different voltage selections.. I have also seen a few with potentiometers to allow it to be more adjustable (dial up or down the voltage). That is what i want, i dont want to be limited to just three different options. S my question to you is, what type of potentiometer do i need to buy for this? And will a regular autostore purchased dashboard voltage meter window work? Also, what type of fuse/or breaker should i use?. Do i even need one? I also head i need some kind of "switch" for this as well. I found circut diagrams, i found list of items needed, but most of the instructables ihave found arent very specific on the specs of these extra items needed... Any help or direction would greatly help. Im going out to radio shack today and would love to grab the items needed to finish this priject. Thanks all...

Is there any way to make these disappear or, at least to minimize them so they aren't as noticeable.

Need Help With A Mini Spot Welder

I've been trying to gather information to build a welder for a special application. The use is for welding the commutator tabs and magnet wire that passes over them for small DC motors. While there are specialized and often automated welders made for this purpose, they are both large and very expensive and really intended for industrial users. I have been able to get small bits of information as to how others have done this, but it's been difficult to get the whole project laid out (there is apparently some "secrecy" involved here!?). The materials being welded (soldering isn't a preferable way to make this connection...these motors run hot and very fast) are the brass commutator tabs (approximately .030" thick material about .060" wide formed as a "U") and the copper magnet wire used to wind the poles that then passes over each brass tab...from #23 awg to #28awg. From what I've been able to gather, people have done this on a "homebrew" basis using 6V automotive battery chargers/starters that can deliver around 30 amps or more. I have very little knowledge of electronics and none at all about welding and circuit design, but am looking for information on how I might proceed after sourcing the charger/starter. I'm guessing that the "negative" cable would be adapted to use as a clamp at the commutator and would also double as a heat sink to prevent damaging the commutator and that the "positive" cable would somehow be adapted to hold some sort of fine rod that would touch each com tab to complete the welds. -Maybe a footswitch could or should be used to start/stop the weld? -Is the positive cable simply used to hold a rod for the "spot weld"?, or are there other pieces that need to be added? To my mind, it would seem that simply touching the positive to the commutator tab to make the weld and complete the circuit would simply trip a breaker at the panel or any protection device on the charger(dead short!?). -Any other information or thoughts? Thank you in advance -john

Instructables needs an "I Made One" button

Everything that instructables seems to be about is sharing your instructions for how to make something or do something so that others can make it or do it too. But it seems like right now the second half is missing. When you make something that someone posted a project of, you have no way of telling the author and the 'ibles community that you made one other than posting a picture in the comments. Those of you familiar with Thingiverse know that one of the most popular features is the "I Made One" button. On a "thing" you just press that button and you can post a picture of the one you made. Everyone's derivatives of this "thing" shows up on that thing's page as well as on a running stream of derivatives. I think that if this feature were to be implemented in Instructables then it would increase community participation by a lot. Authors could see who was making their stuff, who was succeeding, and who was failing. And also everyone would be able to see all the different ways of making it that are creative and different. This would also give yet another reason to become a member because then people who are just making things and not posting things would have something to do with an account. This could even be folded into the Pro membership by giving Pro members higher billing on the list of people who have made it. All in all I think this would be a really great thing for Instructables to have. The stream of made things on Thingiverse is located here: http://www.thingiverse.com/made-things . And here is an example thing that a lot of people have made: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1046 (its under Other People's Copies)
