Flea Market?

Does anyone know where I could find a map for a road trip that would plot out flea markets? I would be leaving from Central Ontario Canada. Thanks everyone :0)

Marketing Instructables

This site is the business activity of Instructables Inc, and as such has to turn a profit (or break-even at the least). I don't know how the books balance or who has how much equity in Instructables Inc, but we do know that paid memberships (Pro accounts) have been introduced as an additional income-stream. Current Pro users number just over 600, so small money so far.A lot of complaints have been made about Pro membership, mainly in relation to what will be denied to free members, but also with regard to perceptions of an "us and them" division. If the site can successfully sell memberships and attract advertising revenue / sponsorship, it would not be necessary to annoy / nag free members by denying them basic features they won't or can't pay for. This is it: How can the site better market what it has to attract paying users willingly, and maximise other sources of income?E.g. gmjhowe's suggestion of Testimonials ("awesome" E Wilhelm)E.g. changing the Pro badgeE.g. changing the "recent Pro users" on the front page ("interesting idea" E Wilhelm) taken up unless it's just coincidence that it appears to be that wayThis topic is for constructive ideas around the introduction of new features and increasing site revenue, not for complaints (there are plenty of other topics for complaints)Personally I think the marketing of Pro accounts could be improved in some areas?L

Check out the new Makers Market by Make:!

Make: has created the Makers Market which is basically an online farmers market for makers!  There are some awesome products that people are selling, so check it out!  It is sort of Etsy-esque, but Make chooses who is allowed to sell.  They call is a "curated marketplace."  As Make: describes it: A collaboration between MAKE and Boing Boing, Makers Market brings together our favorite entrepreneurial makers and artists selling products and services directly to DIY enthusiasts.  The products are "Maker-Made," either made by, rebuilt by, or substantially produced by the maker selling them. The market is currently in beta, but it is fully functional and ready for you to start shopping.  If you are interested in selling in the market, submit your application:makersmarket.com/manage/messages/new And while you are at it, check out my personal storefront: makersmarket.com/sellers/24

Did you ever buy anything from Makers Market?

Because this is your last chance. Apparently Make is shutting down the Makers Market since it failed to become self sustaining. I'll admit, i never bought anything there, I browsed there and got ideas, and I suspect that that might have been a problem. After all, a site devoted to Makers, trying to sell pre-made projects? That just doesn't jibe to me. Still, I'll miss the inspiration I gleaned from the projects for sale.

Selling Chai at a Farmers Market

Hi everyone, I have some very good connections to be able to sell at a few local farmers markets, and I had the idea to sell chai here.  I love making and drinking it, but in my city, you can't buy a good cup of chai anywhere.  It's all from a mix which tastes like garbage to me. Since we don't have any chai vendors, I have no idea what would be needed to sell chai on a large scale. I was wondering if anyone on the forum has seen a chai vendor in a market or on the street before, and what their setup is like?  If you had a picture, I would be indebted. Thanks

Is affiliate marketing on instructables possible???

So as I've cruised the ibles you've all made, I've seen some impressive ones I've delved into. Of these I've noticed on the part list section some of you have added your recommendations on where to go to get such items required for the product. Often these items can be found online and a link is provided to go there. Not bad for the company being advertised, can't complain about free marketing. My question, is affiliate marketing on instructables possible? Go to SFHandyman's ible, "LeGummies brick shaped gummy candies", you will notice a link that takes you to an online store that will provide you with the necessary ingredient (so long as you email them) found on his ible. I'm guessing they're making a bit more in profits since this popular ible has surfaced, shouldn't he be making a commission on this? I dont know the details involved, so if anyone knows anything on this and how it can be done, I'm sure others would like to know as well.

How would I build a two tiered cart for taking to the markets?

I have seen trolleys that have two wire baskets but they are over $100AUD and the reason I go to the markets is that I want to save money. Ideally it would fold up to go in the boot of the car. Even a one tier cart would be good. I don't like the "granny" cart style as everything gets piled in a deep narrow fashion squashing everything below.

Cross Marketing Idea for Instructables

I was checking out the instructable for the coffee bag wallet and had a great idea. You know how grocery stores have recipe cards seeded around the store? I think  Instructables should hook up with Target stores and make recipe cards of  recycling crafts,  placed in front of the product areas. In the past I have seen Target run a recipe card campaign on their own, versus relying on product manufacturers to place the cards and i know they are a perfect fit for the demographic of both this website and their market. Imagine how many altoids tins, coffee bags they could move!!  Another idea - Ikea! - How many times are those lack tables used in projects? Tons! for Ikea, an instore "re-craft show" would be super cool! Did anyone ever see all the marketing that Gallo wines put into bottle reuse - or their booth at Makerfaire? Made me go out an buy a bottle... It's all win-win!

"Open source" marketing research, anyone?

Calling any and all market research buffs!   "I need help finding my target market, but I can't afford to pay the giants in the business who have many many years of experience and probably have an agenda."   I'm sure that has been said, and heard, many times, and now its my turn. I had a thought recently about how I could find a market for a product I'm working on. Since I intend to release it openly, I want most of the side stuff the project spits out along the way to be open as well.   My idea centers around a collaborative and "smart" marketing research system. Of course there would be problems inherent to the system (trolls and SPAM, for instance) that could be remedied in a similar fashion to Wikipedia or Kickstarter. Now that I've put this idea out there, who wants to make it happen?

New breed/ hybrid sunflower! Market opportunities??

I always have lots of flowers in my allotment garden. Sunflowers, originally from 3 different  seed package varieties 5 years ago, come up spontaneously in spring, the seeds spread by birds. I usually collect the seedlings to put them in some rows, for beauty, wind protection and bird/ bee food. This year a large plant came up with double flowers. I have only ever seen small plants with double flowers. I am collecting all old flower heads and will sow these seeds in a small field next year, weed out all non double sunflower plants, and protect them from being pollinated by other, non double plants.  So next year I might end up with a big bag of seeds for big double sunflowers! So far so good, but then??? I think many people would love to buy a packet of these seeds, but how to go about? Should I change my pseudonym BobS to BobMonsanto?

Open-Source Kinect coming on market.

Remember Adafruit's bounty for cracking the Kinect? They might have been a bit hasty paying out for the hacks, since the Israeli developers of the technology within the Kinect have decided to sell similar devices themselves, called PrimeSensor, and release their code on an open license. One of the first licensees has been computer maker Asus which has paired the PrimeSensor with two devices that stream data from a PC to a TV via wireless. This lets owners get at the media on that PC using gestures rather than a mouse. Lithium Rain will be delighted... PrimeSense website Asus. BBC story.

Pro Psychology

Well, I spent some time writing a long persuasive post on this topic, but it was eaten somewhere between edit and preview so this is the gist. 1 Pro accounts are deemed necessary but cause conflict in the community 2 'Ibles is alienating some of its membership that could be otherwise utilised. 3 'Ibles is following good logical marketing practice, but is conflicting with illogical human nature 4 Marketing Psychology is good stuff for a variety of reasons. 5 If a specialist doesn't fit the budget, there are many easy to read and excellently written books on the subject. 6 Marketing psychology is awesome for situations like this. Get marketing psychology. Hope this helps. So, imagine that, but with more examples and evidence and you being even more convinced than you are now that it is a good idea.
