USB in NES controller

So I read the NES controller flash card reader instructable, and I was wondering, would it be possible to make it in a way so you could make an external usb 'connecter'? I've never done any techie thing, so if someone would attempt it or just have some ideas, I'd be glad :) - Semantic

nes pc and mouse

Hey guys...i was just wondering two things. First, is it theoretically possible to build one of these nintendo pc's to be operated as a fully functional pc for gaming and internet use, with your tv as a monitor and to install jacks to be able to connect to a surround sound system? also, i am not too good with computers and all that jazz but ever consider a nes controller that would operate as a mouse? this, of course, would be assuming that you could use your pc in the way i mentioned above, if not it would be kind of pointless. i also thought it would be nifty if it could be a wireless know...just so you don't have to sit 3 feet away from your television...

Nintedo Needed for a Portable NES

I've been working on a portable NES. (Yes, Instructable will be made.) I've got two NES boards, one is completely dead, and on the other I messed up the video. (Does not display pictures correctly.) Anyway, I know many people have old unused NES's laying in their closets. Whether it's "broken" (I.E. flashing screen) or not, I'd really appreciate if you'd give one. (Or some. :D ) No, this is not going to be a cruddy looking portable, it's going to have a transparent case, going to be really thin (1-2" thick) and not that big. 5" screen; it's going to be really great. Please donate an NES. :) And do not forget! I will make an Instructable on it! It's going to be great! :D

Wiring NES Controller to NIX Digital picture frame. HELP!

Hello All, I am a new member to hack-a-day and was wondering if people had input into a project that I am working on. Basically what I want to make is a portable portfolio viewer that is a bit more quirky than what I have seen thus far. A lot of people are presenting on Ipads and the like... not fun enough. I want to wire an NES (original nintendo) controller to a digital picture frame and add a rechargeable battery to make it portable. As for the frame the most cost effective that I have found so far is Nix Digital 10" there are cheap battery packs available on amazon but they seem kind of wimpy...only 2 hours.;=askville-20&linkCode;=xm2&camp;=2025&creative;=165953&creativeASIN;=B00145CUJY And the NES Controller I have a bunch of. Also a battery indicator would be a nice plus! if any one has a successful nixie (or other lower voltage numerical tube) tube battery indicator method I would be very interested in reading about that. I attached an image of the wiring I would like to accomplish Any input about this project would be awesome. I am not as experienced in these kind of things as a lot of the cats around here just enthusiastic about figuring this out. Any help is appreciated! Cheers!

Posted file not downloading with the correct file name

Https:// I attached a NES rom I made to my instructable, and when you click on it it comes up as random letters  with a .TMP extension.  (asdkfj2ljh2l5hkjhlhjaf.tmp).  You can still download it and rename it, but it still shouldn't be doing this. Thanks for the help!

Does anyone wanna try putting a Wii console into a NES system?

I saw someone put a pc into an NES, and on another website they put a DVD player into an NES. One guy even conterted his NES into a guitar and called it a NES Paul. But i think putting your Wii into a NES console would be even cooler. Then you could have your NES out everyday and make good use of it.

why is the NES better than the SNES? Answered

I just wanderd why the NES is better than the SNES although its older??? if anyone agrees with me on this then pkease could you say why you think so. in my opinion its because it saved the gaming industry (from atari) and the controller is so simple to use and it had more epic games than the SNES.

Honoring NES PC author Hatsuli

Eric's post telling us of ibler Hatsuli was recently bumped.  Hatsuli joined on the 12th of February, and posted his instructable on the same day.  I think as a community we should find some sort of way to honor him at this time every year.  It could be an honorary contest of sorts, a way to raise money for cancer research, or whatever.  Any and all ideas are welcome, but I think we should honor him in some way!  Thoughts?

I need help mounting an NES inside of something! Answered

I don't want to give away too much about my upcoming project, but I am basically mounting an NES into a different enclosure. (Like Yoshi's Boxx from a few years ago on Tech TV) I bought some motherboard standoffs, but they are too short. (I need roughly 1" standoffs) At first I was thinking about using epoxy to create a standoff, but that will be ugly. Also if I mess something up it will be hard to remove. Maybe take some small aluminum pipe and jam the standoffs into it?

Arduino EPROM Programming?

Ok, so I have decided to make an EPROM programmer so I can upload NES games to cartridges ( home-brew, not pirated. ) Does anyone know how to do this? I am a novice at coding, and, when it comes down to wiring, I can't really discern which resistor goes here and there and what value it should be, things like that. When I google "arduino eprom writer" All I get is EEPROM writers. I just want to know if someone on instructables has done it, and how.

Hacking a SNES & NES controller with a USB Keyboard Chip

I been wanting to buy Retrolink's SNES & NES controller but I would love the vintage feel of the REAL SNES Controller and my crazy idea was to hack up a USB Keyboard and mod the SNES & NES controller to be played on my Macbook using nestopia emulator, and my question is this (look at the next line for my question) Is it possible to hack up a USB Keyboard's chip and then Solder the wire to the contact points of the controller without modding it in any way or just nab a converter that does the job? I wanna bring new life to a scrapped USB Keyboard's chip instead of getting Retrolink's SNES Controller to plug and play. So how I can mod the controller without destorying the old chip inside?

NES Zapper laser gun w/sound effects

Hi Everyone, I came across the NES Zapper laser mod that burns things recently, and it lit a fire under my backside to do a similar build.  I've scoured various other resources and have yet to come across exactly what I'm looking to do.  And yes, I have already done a forum search for this project.  So, since I found the NES Zapper laser gun on Instructables, it seemed only right that I reach out to the Instructables community for assistance in making this project a reality. I am a rookie at this sort of stuff, but really want to make this happen.  I would like the battery to remain inside the Zapper, rechargeable by way of the female AC adapter connector.  I'd also like to add sound effects, so a speaker and soundcard is going to be needed.  I need help with the wiring circuit so I can adequately power the Laser, LEDs and sound effect without frying anything.  Below is a list of the components that I know of, I know there are others I'll need which is where I hope those of you reading this can help me out. 1 x Nintendo Entertainment System Zapper pistol 1 x 230-250mW 532nm laser 1-3 x Diffused Green LEDs 1 x Rechargeable CR123A 3.7 Lithium-Ion Battery (OLight has built in circuit board to prevent overcharging, over discharging and over discharge current) 1 x CR123A battery housing (found on thingiverse) Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
