Subscription Email Address

I love this website and enjoy my weekly newsletter of new Instructables. Originally, I had them going to my spam-catcher email (I do that when I sign up for something new), but want it to come to my regular email now. My main account settings now has my regular email address, but the newsletter still went to the old one. Private messages and comment updates go to the new email just fine. Finally, I turned off the subscriptions to that old email address. Oops... Now I don't get the weekly at all! I tried to find where to subscribe to the newsletter and all I get is a page that is essentially for new accounts: it wants a NEW address and won't accept my current email address, saying it's already in use. Well no kidding! It's my email address and that's where I want the newsletter to go!!! So how the heck do I subscribe to the weekly newsletter using my current account settings' regular email address? {I originally posted this in the Help-FAQ section}

Newsletter via gmail and then into wlmail

I'd like to keep receiving e newsletters but they have always been 'bad'. They never come out correctly in my wlmail client. It is basically a series of boxes with a cross at top. When I press a cross it opens up IE which I never use (FF only) and here is the page it takes me to with various instructions as to why something went wrong. Yours is the only newsletter this happens to. here is the link. wlmailhtml:{48885E4E-20F8-40C1-884E-4419D44A59F6}mid://00000337/!x-usc:http://app.streamsend.com/c/17630013/448983/9rLucy9/Bfu4?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.instructables.com%2F for design square I got this in IE wlmailhtml:{48885E4E-20F8-40C1-884E-4419D44A59F6}mid://00000337/!x-usc:http://app.streamsend.com/c/17630013/448985/9rLucy9/Bfu4?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.instructables.com%2Fcontest%2Fdesign2012%2F

OPENDNS is blocking access to streamsend links in your mailings

The OPENDNS DNS lookup and anti-phishing service I've used for the last few years has suddenly  decided that the streamsend redirected links in the Instructables weekly newsletters are an attempt at phishing.  I am able to access the instructables web site directly, but I can't follow links from your emails any more. I receive the weekly newsletter through Yahoo email. My older Instructables newsletters that I was previously able to read are having their streamsend links blocked too. This is a problem between streamsend and OPENDNS.  However, Instructables is affected by this if they're a customer of streamsend.

E-mail Newsletter

I am unable to access interesting topics from the newsletter directly.  I get this message when I click on a link: "Due to the presence of characters known to be used in Cross Site Scripting attacks, access is forbidden. This web site does not allow Urls which might include embedded HTML tags." I am using a web mail (cox) and chrome.  Your e-mail doesn't have a link on top for "if you can't see this in your browser", which would be nice as going to the home page doesn't show the current e-mail information.  ie Sonic Screwdriver by MrTinkerer   I've never seen the above warning before and it doesn't sound like one I want to see.  ;-}

Information page not accurate?

I noticed on another author's information page (accessed when you double click on stat card) that he had an achievement patch for being in the newsletter. I also noticed that his featured articles were marked with a banner. I had an instructible shown in the 9/30/2010 newsletter and have had one instructible featured (at least at the technology level). How do you get the achievement patch and featured instructibles marked?

Valentine's Day Inspiration

After getting our first newsletter, Roger sent me this really nice thank you note and pictures of his project. Maybe his inspiration can inspire you? There's still a little time left!I want to thank you for this newsletter. I was at a loss as to what to get/make for my wife for Valentines Day and our 15th anniversary. After reading your newsletter and going to your web site, I was inspired. I made her 15 Duct Tape roses (14 purple ( her favorite color), and 1 Red for passion) , one for each year we have been married. Off the web site's Valentines Day projects, I made an acrylic heart with LEDs to light it up. I added an acrylic tube to act as a vase for the roses. Thank you for the inspiration, Roger

Pumpkin-carving resource

I know it's early, but there's no harm in being prepared, and, who knows, you might want to practice? I came across the Extreme Pumpkins website via Randy Cassingham's This Is True* newsletter. It's full of photos of past years' pumpkins, as well as free patterns and pumpkin-related tutorials (such as how to illuminate your carvings with road flares, and the proper use of power tools when carving). Go, be inspired, and then come back and show us what you made. *If you are afraid of thought-provoking journalism, do not subscribe to the This is True newsletter.

Login doesn't return me to correct 'ble

It's extremely irritating that when I follow a link from the daily newsletter and then have to login in order to be able to "see all steps on one page", I'm not returned to the story/'ble I wanted to see. There doesn't appear to be any way to get back there. I've tried logging in, then returning to newsletter and clicking link again because at some sites you stay logged in... nope, nothing seems to work. I don't know how to view a whole freaking story on one page if I want to see a story from the newsletter. /ack FYI: I'm using Windows xP and Firefox. I've cleared the cache. I'm accepting cookies. Thanks for any assistance anyone may be able to give! Oh - I should also mention that this has been happening since I went Pro, two computers, two operating systems, and three browsers ago... /ack

Randofo subscription bug/mistake?

I've got a funny bug: I logged in into Windows Live and: 25 subscription updates! From: randofo. It were all newsletter things, like: BP Costume, Tweeting Snuggie, Tusken Raider you know? If i opened the link, 9 of 10 times there was a screen that i only could see the forum topic if i was pro member. i was getting all pro member ad's and all that things. Somebody help? I don't know if i missed some newsletters? It was weird, please help? (by the way, how can i find my printscreens on my computer?) here's a pic:  (all those black things are subscriptions updates)

Help! Please Donate More Common Sense!

It's not that I don't have common sense, It's because I think like this. I overthink things, when the answer is usually simple. Maybe I take things way too seriously. It probably took Brooklytonia about 20 seconds to read and figure this out... About a week ago, I uploaded an Instructable that I thought would be a HUGE hit. It wasn't. When my Instructable on Dimmable LED Workshop Lighting (Very High Efficiency) got featured in the Newsletter, it got 100K+ views. This is because it was at the top, and it was impossible to miss. When my Instructable on Insanely Bright LED Panel got featured in the newsletter, It got 40K+ views. It was at the bottom left on the email. I figured that it made sense. When my Instructable on Articulating 70W Spectrum-Balanced LED Panel got featured in the newsletter, it got ~10K views. This makes no sense! (I've changed the titles to what the staff changed them when they got featured in the newsletter. Not sure why I remember this...) Dimmable LED Workshop Lighting (Very High Efficiency) - Good title. Good thumbnail. Main Instructable - TONS of clicks - 3K views in less than 10 minutes Insanely Bright LED Panel - Okay title (not my fault!). Fairly good thumbnail. Located at the bottom left - Quite a bit of views Articulating 70W Spectrum-Balanced LED Panel - Good title. Good thumbnail*. Located in the middle. - Not a lot of clicks - 3K views in several hours. WHY? Of course there are several things that differ between Insanely Bright LED Panel and Articulating 70W Spectrum-Balanced LED Panel. But why such a difference? I mean-- I always compare the statistics of my I'bles, and try to make them better. It's usually hard to compare, and surprising. But why is there such a huge difference between two Instructables that are pretty similar? *I changed it a couple hours before it got featured in the newsletter, with the Instructables Pixlr editor. I know it turned ot a bit weird, but it was the best that I was able to do. The Pixlr site has better fonts, but the biggest on was still soooo small. Maybe I did something wrong. Email address change not taking effect

Last week I changed my email address, received an email at my old address to confirm the change, and when I look at my settings it shows the new email address, but instructables newsletters are still going to the old address? Can someone help please? Steve

New Robot Merchandise?

I'm not bragging, but I think I have about five or six Instructables patches, what with running up in contests and getting featured in the newsletter. I'm running out of places to put them. How about laser-cut rubber keyrings or zipper tags? Or Robot mugs? Any comments? Other ideas?

Comment of the Week! 10/27/2014

If you looked at the most recent newsletters, you may have seen randofo's newest project.  The comment of the week is this hilarious sentiment from jodyja.  It's her first (and only) comment and I hope to keep seeing her wit around the site!

Instructables: Quality Standards

I was thinking..... as I do. Quite a few of instructables, on.... instructables, havn't meet the quality standards of a good instructable, let alone get featured. Why do people bother make instructables 2 steps long? Wouldn't they like to be in the newsletter and get nice feedback? If you put all you effort in to an instructable you will get repaid with nice comments (normally). I wouldn't like to see instructables as a website with few featured instructables lots of quick put to gether nonsense. I would like to see quality, and a archive of fun things to do and make for all the family. A while back a published an instructable called 'professional water rocket guide'. I spend along time on it and was pleased with my self when it got featured, and it was in the newsletter. This it was gives me motivation to do good instructables. What do you think about poor informative an qualitive instructables? Thanks

Missing patches?

Reasonably sure there's something not right at hand here, I happened to notice that I have more burning question patches than I remember and I'm missing a newsletter patch on profile, not sure if that's all but I suspect that burning questions are taking over my whole profile... I happened to noticed this about the time I got a yummy cookie from fungus there...

Dear Newsletter editor.

Hi... This is an open letter.. made with a new id which i will never use again.. i promise you that my sole intention is for instructible to be better. Lately it's been very difficult for me to follow the one rule "be nice policy"... I'm still trying very hard... It's been made very hard by the newsletter editor, or whoever's job it is to choose which instructible to feature..  It's like you just choose randomly (or is this the case???), some times it's such a ridiculous ible that i can't hold my self much longer.. I want to be nasty in the comments of the ible.. But it's not the ible's writer's fault..  S/he's just making and sharing what s/he wants and i wouldn't even open the ible if it wasn't featured!!! To me, featuring means that you think it's a really nice piece and everyone should have a look at it.. it's brilliant! it's new!! it's unique! A little screening should be done prior to featuring.. Featuring doesn't mean "hey guys.. look at these random pages and see what you think.. or whatever..." Some of the ible's that was featured lately  that i dont think that everybody should see: "is my sweater blue?"  i admit it's a funny one.. well written.. yet it's pointless!  anticlimactic! i was expecting so much more only because it was featured. If i stumbled on it on my own, i wouldn't have put so much expectation and wont be too disappointed.. might even enjoy the joke..  it was 1st of march!!! Not april fools!!!!! "router hack"  more like router 101..  or how to use your router.. look at all the breach in the be-nice-policy comments... I wont even comment there..  A few was a re-post of older ible, some even a only re-make (i dont want to say plagiarism), and few more i care to remember... Were they innovative? were they interesting? were they everyone-must-see material? subjectively i say NO, NO, and NO. But if i look at the other commenting on them, mostly breaching the be nice policy, i'm not alone! I'm seriously starting to see instructible newsletter to be more junk lately.. Not like before when i got excited everytime one arrives in my inbox.. now i'm like "meh.. gotta screen to these stuff again because someone didn't do his/her job properly"... Please do something about this.. I'm worried that instructible would spiral down into the abyss, becoming flamming troll land due to the domino effect from negative comments making others feeling negative and spreading like a virus.. If it happens, there's only one to blame: unscreened newsletter featuring undeserving ibles. So i say again: please.. please.. please.. Anonym

Crazy behavior when clicking from email

I'm surprised that no one else has reported this, because it's pretty severe. Whenever I click a link from your email newsletter, the page never stops reloading. Everything works fine when I've called it up directly from instructables.com, but when I click a link or image from the newsletter, everything bounces around and it never stops. Clicking the stop ("X") in Chrome doesn't help, because then the page is only partially loaded and none of the javascript works. I'm on Chrome, up to date at current release, Windows XP at final release; email is gmail. I don't think I can provide a screen dump that captures the, um, dynamic nature of the problem--like I said, the page just never quits jumping. The first time I noticed it was within the last few weeks, not sure exactly, but at first I thought it was a fluke. Since that time, it has happened every time.

Why am I not getting email updates?

I just published my first Instructable this morning (here), and for some reason I'm not getting the email alerts I signed up for in my settings page.  Any ideas why this is? I also get the newsletter that informs me of new projects, if that is relevant, and I checked my spam folder. Thanks so much!

Pros and viruses

Fellow-pro-members, I have been seeing a lot of complaints about viruses / redirection etc. in the last couple of weeks. It may be my imagination, but most / all seem to be from non-pro members. Are pro members getting these problems (especially if you click through from the newsletter)? I haven't seen any of the problems (running FF in Wondows, with Norton installed and up-to-date).

Mugshot Museum

It currently only has 13 entries, but the Mugshot Museum is a website to bookmark and check back when you're bored. This is True collects bizarre stories from the world's news media (there's a newsletter - I suggest you sign up), and sometimes the stories come with mugshots of the perps. The site's author realised that the mugshots were popular, so he gave them their own site.

New Website

**....nevermind. I just found out its a 30 day trial and once it ends I have to pay to keep my website. Stupid false advertising -.-** Hey everyone, I just managed to make my own website! It features all of my completed projects as well as upcoming project "prototypes" and ideas. If anyone would like to subscribe please click here. And there's no need to worry about my emails taking up all your time, as I will only be releasing them every other month. However, my website will allow a much more well organized way to display all of my completed projects as well as ideas I have, so please take a look and subscribe. :) *note* I will still be using Instructables for the complete instructions and I even have a link from my website to Instructables, so if you decide to subscribe to my newsletter you should also subscribe to me here.
