Be Nice Policy

Hi, I have created "Be Nice" memes for everyone to share here on Instructables. I thought it would be a fun way to share your thoughts using the Instructables Robot. You can download the images I created HERE. I will add more as I think of them or through suggestions from YOU. I have also added templates for you to create your own images. If you do create your own and wish to share them, please add them to this community post or to my original Instructable. Thank you and remember to Be Nice. Tater

It would be nice...

It would be nice to see the full name of an instructable when you hover over it's title. Just an observation. Thank you.

Nice Idea

This is NOT my idea. I do not take any credit for it in any way. I just found this on You tube. I thought it was a brilliantly original idea, and wanted to show everyone here that there really is no limits to knex.

Must Be Nice Comments.

I've been trying to upload comments to a micro controller forum and it continuously tells me my post isn't nice enough or isn't formated correctly. This is getting vary annoying. This stupid policy of letting a poorly thought out filter program block comments that don't fit a "nice" format needs to go. This is the post I'm trying to make.I'm getting the following errors with the AtMega8. It must be a problem with the giveio driver which I have installed but it's still not working. All the forums say to just install it but that's not fixing the problem. I'd greatly appreciate any help."avrdude: can't open device "giveio"avrdude: failed to open parallel port "lpt1"make.exe: *** [program] Error 1> Process Exit Code: 2> Time Taken: 00:00""

Wouldn't it be nice: MacPlus PDA!

Main Idea: Building a super-efficient-crystal-sharp-monochromatic-PDA based on the Coldfire / Dragonball CPU, using System 6 from Apple's older software page and a utility such as CopyRoms to obtain the ROM from a Macintosh Plus. This way there are no copyright problems, am I right? An impossible Mission?

Nice paper: Constraints on possible "antigravity" of antimatter

A new preprint on arXiv does an excellent job of deriving strong constraints on the possible "antigravity" (gravitational repulsion) of antimatter, based on very precise experimental data and a minimum of theoretical assumptions. Karshenboim goes through several complex and detailed analyses to set tight limits on antigravity effects. The argument I like best goes as follows: if antimatter feels a gravitational repulsion relative to matter, then "pure neutral" bodies, like positronium (bound states of e+ and e-) or photons (which are their own antiparticles) should feel no gravity at all. That trivially contradicts the gravitational deflection of light, and therefore can't be true.

Is it rude not to follow someone who followed you?

Hey guys. coolcrafter101 here. This question has been bothering me, so I thought I'd ask y'all. Is it rude not to follow someone who followed you? As a general rule I follow anyone who follows me, and then some. But my friends have been talking about arguments they have been having with people who don't follow them back ect. So is it or isn't it?

Appreciate Nice Feature -- unpublished "Favorite" stays in place!

Yesterday I flagged a fellow member's unpublished I'ble as a "Favorite" (so I could give some feedback and copyediting). It was published today, and I thought I'd have to go and reflag the published version since the URL would be different. Not at all! It was still right there in my Favorites list, and the URL had automatically updated itself to the published version (the title with underscores) instead of the internal hash ID.

I've seen it done before way back when.  Want too save a few $$ and hook up a brand new JVC Car Stereo to be the main stereo in the Garage Shop.  What is the best way to convert 12 volt to 120 power supply?  Just use a power converter?  anyone done this here lately?  I tried searching on instructables but just found how to hook up to battery...

posting photos - how to get the nice pop-up?

Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to make body photo "pop out" like the main photos of a step.  Some of my image details could be better viewed using the pop-up, so I put them in the beginning section.  But the photos would fit better embedded in the flow of the instructions.  But images in embedded in the body don't have the pop-up function...they are the size they show up as on the page. Here's an example of what I mean: https://www.instructables.com/id/Uber-Home-Automation/step3/ Just wondering about this. Thanks!

I bought some nice Technics speakers..well..

I'm gonna bug people once more, but this should be an interesting question for all. I bought some nice Technics SB-A53 tower speakers yesturday, they sound pretty good. Google it or look at the picture below, 260 watts each. Here's the question:Seeing as these speakers are rated for 260 watts EACH, thats 520 watts all together. My surround sound amp outputs 110 watts for each channel, this is JUST fine for how loud I listen to things (most of the time =) but I need to "test" them, I'm being serious here. I get up to -5db (thats what the volume units are on this unit) and it still isn't as loud as I KNOW they go.Here's my idea, the amp has a B channel specifically for a second set of "front" speakers, If I were to connect the left and right channel of each speaker channel together (the negative and positive leads together, not all together, but seperatly together). Would this get me 220 watts per channel? Or just make some drastically horrible sound?

New comment editor -- nice, but badly slow to load

So I like the new comment editor that's been deployed.  It looks just like the "standard" edit boxes with formatting icons across the top (including the silly pseudo-Micros**t tab edges that don't do anything). However, it is really slow to load.  I timed it a over fifteen seconds just now.  I was able to type in the whole title and keywords for this posting before the edit box was ready to be used.  Caching the icons doesn't seem to be the issue, as this is the third edit box I've opened this morning.  Unless that speed can be improved, this may create more irritation and complaints than it's worth.(Minor update, looks like Eric's announcement that re-editing wouldn't work has been fixed.)

Is it worth dropping $400 on a really nice oscilloscope (Rigol DS1054Z)?

I will describe my situation: I am a hobbiest that likes to make cool projects, and plan to get into maybe RF analog stuff, (maybe start out with making a few FM bugs, reverse engineer a simple video transmitter kit, and a few other things.) as well get into arduino some more, AC analysis (learn about Xformers, power factor, maybe some math, etc.) and I so currently have an old 2ch. 30MHz analog oscilloscope that is a PITA to make real measurements with. Not only is it huge and takes up a lots of space, but also I'm not even sure it is in cal!) I will be transferring into UVA (or maybe VT) for EE, and gone this summer for a NASA internship at langley. (maybe I will be able to take it with me w/ a toolbox of some electronics stuff!) The scope I am looking at (what appears to be what many subscribers seem to use, and/or claim is pretty good) is the Rigol DS1054Z. I only know how to use my $30 30MHz BKprecision scope I got on craigslist from the son of a father who was a TV repairman, and have NO experience with the use of the fancy-shmancy digital scope! What little I know is from watching EEVblog review of other scopes in the past. (I do know that they can be useful for 'capturing' waveforms, and can be set up to trigger on a pulse, maybe a certain digital codes, and that could come in handy for reverse engineering crap.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v-tFYbc7h8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2qdtQkBKhc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETCOhzU1O5A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gStNYfqMXk What sells it to me, being a complete newbie to electronics and digital scopes is that it has a nice big screen, the specs seem good (other certainly think, I have no intuition of what any of those things mean except the bandwidth, and maybe the sampling rate, 1GSa/s), 4 channels, intensity graded display, and it has loads of functions and stuff for me to grow into, and hacking it to make it think it is a DS1104Z is tempting, but I probably will not do that right away. Maybe once I feel what it offered is limiting. The deal breakers is the $400 price, a bit steep for me (cheap for something this good, apparently but still.), the fear that by the time I really start using it, it will be obsolete and the same money can buy some quantum super duper ASIC tech whiz bang 3GHz 100Gsa/s 1GB segmented memory spectacular scope! I am not really sure if it has a source, or signal generator either. Some sources claim that higher end ones do, or certain models anyway, and it seems like the official site say's no. http://www.rigolna.com/products/digital-oscilloscopes/ds1000Z/ds1054z/ That brings me to my next point. Should I also get a decent function generator?

Tis nice to find out now.....about raw cultivated mushrooms....

I just found out that is it unwise to eat many cultivated mushrooms raw. I finished up 3 pieces of pizza I had placed some sliced Oyster mushrooms on for flavor. If I don't sign in tomorrow morning, I am in the hospital :-) it is said that only sensitive people will be effected by the toxins......nice ! :-(UPDATE: I seem not to be sensitive nor particularly vulnerable to this toxin probably because I have ingested so many raw baby portabellas from salad bars :-)

Where would be a good place to find a cheap, but nicely bound book?

I'm working on a project where I I'd love to have a finely bound book, (leather, gold leaf, etc) but I don't care about what the book is about since I'll be removing all the pages. Where should I look for something like this?  I'd hate to buy an heirloom just to ruin it.  The few fine used book stores I've looked at didn't have anything like this.
