Email notifications

Hi, I know this topic has been made multiple times but none of the other solutions seems to be working.  I've tried resetting the email settings, logging out and back in, double checking my spam filter...etc.  I receive emails sporadically but did not receive the Halloween notification a few weeks ago, nor have I been receiving notifications of comments to my posts or updates from the authors I follow.  Can anyone please help?  Thank you.

MagicJack notification. ?

I just installed Magic Jack. It works well, but I would like to have the answering machine/voice mail sent to two email addresses. I use AOL as my primary, and AOL won't auto-forward. I can set up a hotmail account, but how can I autoforward the message (with an attached wmv file) to two email accounts (mine and my wife's)? Seems like Magic Jack would have thought of this.

Comment Notifications

As you know, we're always updating the site to try and improve it for you. Sometimes we go a bit overboard... Recently we changed how you're notified when someone comments on an Instructable you wrote, or a forum you started, or replied to a comment you wrote, etc. People were getting a ton of emails, each with just one comment in it. So we created the ability to bundle these up into just one email, which you can get hourly or daily (or not at all). (Oh, and you can still get individual emails if you prefer - just update your user settings to suit you.) All well and good! But there was a small problem deep in the guts of the notification code, wherein it periodically skipped notifying some people of some comments, some of the time. Since a lot of people were getting notifications normally, it took a while to figure this out. I just fixed it... and there were a LOT of old comments that hadn't been sent yet, that just went out all at once! At least one user got notified of 93 comments. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that that was a backlog, and not normal, and going forward you should only have the one hour's worth, or one day's worth, depending on how you've set up your account.

Notification of winner not received

I was one of the winners of the Coffee Challenge (YEAH ME!!!) I have never received "official" notification (I think I read I would need to sign something) I just saw my Instructable (Good Morning Coffee Soap) on the Winner List. I didn't think much about not getting the prizes until my DH asked tonight. What do I need to do, or whom do I need to contact? Now that I'm thinking about it I've never gotten the Sugru from entering a before and after beard picture on the December beard challenge. :-(

Makezine feature notification?

Every so often. Well, more than "every so often", projects from this site are featured on the Makezine site. This is, without doubt, a good thing, but wouldn't it be nice if the authors of featured projects were informed, in the same way as they are informed when their project is featured on this site?

Email oddity

Is there any way to produce comment emails that are more sensibly organised? Take, as a typical example, the last comment-summary email I got.  This is the list of dates and times of the comments, in the order of the email: Date: Sep 26, 2011. 7:48 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:44 PM Date: Sep 20, 2011. 10:01 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 11:32 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 11:33 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 11:34 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 8:06 AM Date: Sep 22, 2011. 6:02 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:28 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:05 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 2:28 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 6:16 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 11:26 PM Date: Sep 27, 2011. 3:09 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 6:11 AM Date: Sep 20, 2011. 11:23 AM Date: Sep 27, 2011. 2:26 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 4:59 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:17 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 2:00 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 10:24 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 3:41 PM Date: Sep 27, 2011. 2:54 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 6:21 AM Date: Sep 27, 2011. 1:12 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 8:38 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:37 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:15 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 8:46 AM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:22 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 5:13 PM Date: Sep 20, 2011. 12:00 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 11:33 PM Date: Sep 26, 2011. 4:03 PM There is just no logic to the order, which makes it confusing to scan through and make sense of, especially on days with a lot of comments, and more especially when some of the comments are days out of synch. Speaking of which, those days-old comments didn't get a timely answer, because I didn't hear about them.  That makes me seem tardy and poorly mannered, something which I try not to be (call  it a cultural thing).

I recently tried to follow a couple of contests, and set the settings to receive emails when new ibles are added to contest. Most of the time I get standard text in the email without the information about newly added ible. Sometimes I get it when there are many ibles. Seem like a bug to me.This is what I get , please see below: Here are the newest items from each of the contests you are following.  To change or turn off updates, go to your following  page: https://www.instructables.com/you/watchlist?modify=WATCHLIST --------------------------------------- Thanks for being part of our community! Replying from Email notifications

When I am in my email, and also have an Instructable tab open, and click on the reply link to one of the replies listed, I am normally taken to the page, and I have to scroll down to find my "entry box" already open and ready for me to reply. That is ok. However, if the reply sent to me is off the first page, I have no way I can find to "page forward" There appears to be no link at the bottom enabling me to "go to the next n+ pages. This only happens when I come in directly from an email notification....it is fine if I am already in Instructables and view a forum longer then one page.

Haven't Recieved Notification Emails

Hi, I just noticed that while people I'm following have recently posted instructables, I haven't received any email notifications. I checked my settings and they still show that I want to receive notifications. I've received notifications about comments and new followers, just not about anything posted by the people I'm following. Is something wrong with my email, or is this a bug? (I checked the spam folder in my email, nothing was there) Anyone else have this problem?

How would you make a visual notification system for when the mail comes? Answered

We have a long curving driveway so you can't see the end where the mailbox is. We end up checking the mail a couple times a day if waiting for something important. I've always wanted to do up some kind of thing where a light comes on when the mail is delivered by way of a switch that is turned on by the action of opening and closing the mailbox. Problem is that the mailbox is a good hundred feet from the nearest window on that side of the house (which is where i'd like the light to be) A wireless setup would be nice, but probably more complicated. Power down by the mailbox is available but house power for the driveway lights.

Links in the Email updates no longer work

I do like the new and clean look of the Email notification that show the last comments made. But in the old style all I had to do was to click on the link to get to the answer. Now I either need to copy and paste the link into the brwoser or start the comment tracker first to find them. It was really convinient to just click and get where it is needed - is there any chance to get this back working? Or is there a specific reason why the links are no longer clickable?

Emails

Hi! I have a problem with emails. In fact I found two of them :/ First is that notification mesages stopped coming to my email, which is quite bad, because I wanted to enter some contests and now I don't know if my entries were accepted or not. I also don't know who commented my stuff. I also checked my spam folder and there's nothing in there. And the second one is, that I can't change Email alerts in settings at "my page". When I change notification times (for example from "once an hour" to "as they are made") and then I click to "Update settings", but nothing is changed. My operating system is MS Windows 8.1 and I use Google Chrome browser (version 35.0.1916.153 m) , but I tried to change it also in Internet Explorer and it was the same, so I guess that operating system and/or browsers don't have an influence to this error. But I'm not an IT guy.

Email thinks I've stolen someone else's question

I posted the first answer to a question (this one, for reference). The original poster replied to my answer, and I got an email notification saying "You have 1 new answer to a question you asked!"I thought "that's a bit weird", replied to the reply, and got another message from Robot saying "People are answering your question! You have 1 new answers." and feeding me back my own answer. It's not exactly a fatal bug for me, but I couldn't help wondering if fwjs28, who was meant to be getting these notifications, actually wasn't, which would be a wee bit more serious.

Notifications from Android to Arduino via Bluetooth

I would like my phone to relay my notifications from the notification tray to an arduino. I had done alot of snooping around, and I have not found anything regarding doing that. Closest thing I had come to was sending notifications from the arduino itself, to the phone. But I want it the other way around. The idea is that it would display it to one of those 16x2 LCD displays, scrolling through whatever the notification says. I have yet to get the LCD, but in the meantime, I'd like to see about getting it to come through to the serial monitor. Does anyone know how to get android to do something like that?

Instructable's robot not sending me notifications?

For the past week, I have not been receiving notifications for questions I have asked, or comments on my instructables. They do seem to appear in the orange board, and I have checked my settings for email notifications twice on different computers to verify it is not just me. I have also noticed that my recent replies to people are not answered or replied back to. Although it is difficult to tell since people to don't usually reply back anyway. So if you plan to reply, and I'll keep an eye out for any notifications and keep the page refreshed, and hopefully reply within the same day, maybe then you (the community who answered) can come back and verify if they did not receive the reply? I wonder if the same issue occurs with PM messengers, Not sure. Also how do I submit a bug report? [EDIT:] Posted bug report here, as well as other minor bugs with the commenting system. (might as well kill as many birds with a stone as I can.)

2 months delay in discussion notifications

My "Discussions" tab showed no changes for about two months, and then yesterday it dumped about two months of replies that people had made on my various comments I made on the forums here. I think that qualifies as a bug. I mean, ideally my "Discussions" tab would notifiy me of replies in a matter of hours, so I could reply to those replies in a timely fashion, if it was the sort of thing where someone was expecting a reply from me.I am guessing this problem was maybe related to the recent big "improvements" to the site, to make it more readable for mobile lusers, and other changes to make the site more comment-able, question-able, tip-able, by everyone.Just wondering: Has anyone else experienced this same problem, i.e. a several weeks, or months, delay in notifications of replies to your comments?

How can i have my home alarm system email me system status?

I have a concord 4 home alarm system from GE. It currently supports the following communication methods to report status. 1. GSM by means of a $250 module to connect to alarm.com 2. Outbound dialing to a pager # which will send codes which you need to look up to see what they mean. 3. Central monitoring station service which it will dial and send system status to. I've seen modules such as the Telguard TG-1 which will intercept the outbound dialing and convert the pager tones and transmit them over GSM to a central station as well. What i'd like to do is one of the following. I'd like to get the system status messages from my system, but I don't want to purchase the GSM feature or a pager as I already have a cell phone. I can add the enterprise paging feature from at&t; but I just feel there must be a DIY method for this. One option I've been considering is a phone line simulator component to basically have it connect to a server I have via a fake modem connection and use the GE Enterprise Downloader software to have the system upload/download from that using the phone line simulator. Beyond that, i'm not sure what options I have.. Would love some ideas.

Real-time Ocr and SMS Notification?

How can I develope a program as I explain below? I don't know where to start. By the way, I know C language. Is there any helpful resource about this subject? Thanks. For example, there is a live number generator between 1-15 as image. This images changes every 10 seconds. Program should catch the image everytime as digit number. By the way, there is 3 integer variable as a,b and c: If the number between 1-5, then variables b and c should increment by 1 and 'a' should be equal to 0. If the number between 6-10, then variables a and c should increment by 1 and b should be equal to 0. If the number between 11-15, then variables a and b should increment by 1 and c should be equal to 0. If a,b or c is equal to 13, then program should send an SMS to phone as for example 'a is 13.

Led notification button using USB car charger

Here an challenge that I am struggling. I do have understanding of how to put things together based on parts buying. Yet I do not have good idea of how to literally create from scratch. Hope someone can walk me through to create interesting concept.  So I was wondering if can use USB car charger to power a led notification system with light on when button pressed and light off when let go the button.  Specifics requested: 1. Button need to have ability to tolerate abuse and free from getting caught by any fabric or strings.  Want this button  - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?PartNumber=060-640 Avoid this button - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=060-632 2. Any Led will do. Please give me options of two set of led.  3. Power supply needed.   Preferred USB car charger (charge my phone too) Similar to - http://www.amazon.com/Cigarette-Lighter-Adapter-Players-Charger/dp/B000CC6I5W Any car charger will do if USB is too complicated.  Try avoid battery at all cost.  4. Step by step as how to wire the whole thing. Do not understand those schematic outlet unless actual pictures instruction.  I have spent few hours on Google but just couldn't put puzzle together. So want to ask the community my burning question. Then I will be up for the challenge to really build it. I do have tools to build anything. Just need schematic step by step by genius like you.  Then I will post WHY I asked this question. Thank you in advance.

Notifications for contests I'm following when I'm not following any contests

I recently installed Autodesk 123D Design and as part of the install there was a link to their current contest for kids.  I think clicking the link to go there might have made me auto-follow that contest.  No big deal. Yesterday I got a notification from Instructables that there were new items in the contest, but didn't list what they were in the email.  It just had this link: https://www.instructables.com/you/watchlist?modify=WATCHLIST That link takes me to the manage preferences page. I unfollowed the Autodesk 123D Design contest and don't believe I'm following any others. Today, I get another notification with no items listed (just says "there are new items") and the preferences changing link mentioned above. No idea if it's specific to my account or a general bug in the notification system but thought I'd report it. Thanks!

Further investigation: If you type https://www.instructables.com/id/Pallet-wood/ into the Google search bar, it'll automatically ocrrect it to https://www.instructables.com/id/Pallet-wood-desk/ . Could this have happened because it looks like the link was posted incorrectly in the email?

Resource: instructable monitor bot command line app

Hi all, If you are looking for a way to be notified when one of your instructables gets a spike in more views, I wrote couple different python command line apps for that exact purpose. The first displays a visual notification, speaks and announcement, and plays a beep whenever your tutorial gets X more views. You can customize X. The second uses email notifications instead of text to speech. The third command line app lets you customize the notification ringtone. Hope you find this useful!
