Over the years I've done a lot of things that didn't work out well, and I try learn something from them hoping to avoid similar problems in the future. I think ibles needs a place to share these 'educational moments' to help others avoid pitfalls and to console with laughter anyone who is sitting amidst the ruins of their own project. So here's the place to share. I'll go first........... My first dramatic failure at about age 8 - Gluing glitter onto balloons. Not a good idea. The glue popped the balloon (I think it was 'airplane glue' ) The result was glue and glitter everywhere (including in my eyes) and a lot of unhappiness. Then there was the hot glue surprise - Using a glue gun to close drip irrigation holes in a garden hose. It plugged the holes and worked just fine in the overcast cool spring weather. Then a rare sunny day heated the hose, and all those plugs melted and the holes started jetting water. I hadn't realized how hot a green hose in the sun could get. And I have made some just plain stupid moves - like spending hours pulling all the shreds of paper out of the toothed wheels on the paper shredder.... you know how they get sucked inside. After getting it all clear I thought I might as well lubricate the thing with spray silicon stuff. So far so good. And then I was so excited to see how it much better it would work, I turned it on. Flash of flame, slightly singed eyebrows, and a TOTALLY dead smoking shredder. Ummm.... it's really worthwhile to let solvents totally evaporate before turning on electrical things.

I just got my brand new raspberry pi model b in the mail yesterday. Today I was booting it and plugging it in and I slipped and broke the little silver thing (right next to the power plug) clean off. I haven't checked to see what it is yet but now my pi won't boot. What should I do? Could I solder it back on? ( I can solder pretty well) or should I do something else? Please help. Thanks, Bud

Hi folks! No big deal, just reporting a minor typo: On https://www.instructables.com/contest/extreme/, there is an "R" missing (as of 7:45 PM PST, 2-28-12): "Make sure to tell us in your into step why your project is EXTREME!" So maybe you should look around on the floor by where you typed the description, because that's probably where it fell off of the screen. Hopefully nobody mopped the floor or vacuumed or anything, because it sucks to have to fish through dirty mop water or nasty vac-dust to find such a tiny letter. Cheers! Mike

If you want to move a building a little over to the side and, oh, upside-down, then it looks like all you have to do is set off explosives on just one side. That's what it looks like what happened in this video in Turkey, anyway. Wish it also included what led up to this amazing building barrel roll.

Looks like the ad banner next to the topographical hand is not translating the weird charaters (BZh91 ... lozenges (etc)). Also, same problem on the main page, a bit lower and to the right, ah there yes. Don't wan't you to lose your sponsers. Other than that, keep up the good work.

This is an odd one! Apparently, kids have been playing around with the hybrid buses as they roll along -- by turning them off. The off switch is apparently just under a unlocked panel on the side of the bus."When that happens, the drivers can't accelerate, they lose radio contact with dispatchers and the interior lights on the buses go out. The power loss does not affect the brakes."They say that they're working on locking the compartments -- which seems like a good start -- as well as increasing patrol among the areas, as other attacks were common.Chronicle via Gizmondo

Oops - I slightly broke the website. Just a little bit.The thread "...bigger than its belly can" has too many full stops in the title, which confuses computers, apparently.Anyhoo...I was just pointing out that, of all the engines you'd expect to see here, nobody has made a pulse jet engine. Yes, I made a jam jar version, but nobody has made a real one.I don't know why, they're very easy (basically a big pipe with a fuel supply and no consideration for the neighbours).Maybe you'd just like to buy one off ebay, or maybe you'd like to look at the pictures of the jet mounted on a scooter, imagine what the ride would be like, and tremble slightly in anticipatory panic...I got a message from the seller:I have a video of it doing approx 70mph down Croft start/finish straight, the moped has now gone as the plastic wheels did not last long !!.

If you have a SONY product you're screwed. Especially SONY USB products for PC's. Drop the bomb on SONY and let them go OOB with a bang!!! Love your Playstation? Just hack the $#!+ out of it! SONY forfeited their DMCA rights. Stop brown-nosing SONY or you'll get computer-AIDS! They haven't learned their lesson. Search for SONY USB ROOTKIT and get as pi$$ed as me! SONY is the reason I haven't touched Windows since their first illegal megahack in 2005. They either owe me a fortune or I own their sorry @$$3$!!! (By default they acknowledge my Pandora's Box/Predictive Music Synth tech, since they did not choose to instead compensate me for actual damages by "SPECIFIC HARM MUSIC" ... which they did not acknowledge as Malware). I am not liable for this rant. I have first amendment rights and this is true.

" He was able to post the question, but that was eight days ago. That means this glitch happened between now and then.

I am working on a program to learn about OOP (object oriented programing) and I want to make a program that lets you create planets and fling them around a sun. Here is the current code. Note, I am always actively changing it so the code may be broken at the time you click to open it. Sorry if that happens. https://www.khanacademy.org/computer-programming/solar-system-creator-oop/4441139047 =========================================== I know the gravity formula is F = (G*M1*M2) / R^2. The problem is that F is a scalar, not a vector. I need to split this equation into X and Y components. But apparently, you cannot just simply define the X components and Y components separately using that formula because it is not a linear/inverse relationship. :( Anyone know what the easiest way to make gravity vector field?

Oops! Just got home today from school and realized that I drove home with the E brake on (around 10 miles). Should I be worried about this? Its mostly 35mph the way home, with 55 for around 3 miles. I noticed no burning rubber smell or anything that would indicate burning (but the windows were closed). I have done this occasionally on the driveway, but usually notice. The car is a Handa Civic, 2003 I think.

For this code, the rules are the same, but the setup is different. The letters are not mixed up, so if you get the word (for example) "Blue" it's "Blue", not "luBe". The words are still mixed up, but are on the correct line, so if the first line reads "Sky Blue The" and the second line reads "Cat Hat In The" it would be "The Blue Sky," and "Cat in the Hat." Oh, and I may, or may not have mixed up the alphabet. Oops ;-) From your's Truly, Rock Soldier

I've had experience with electronics in general and the Arduino, but I've never done anything with FPGAs or CPLDs. Would the CoolRunner-II CPLD Starter Board be a good start? Am I correct in believing that it doesn't require any sort of serial-to-USB converter or separate programmer to be able to use it? Basically, will I need anything other than the board? (Not including the USB A to mini B cable) Thanks, dedgerton EDIT: Oops, it might be helpful if I give a link to the board: here it is.

Oops- tried to take a time lapse but the shutter was set on burst (40fps), so every time it took a picture it took about 14 pics in bursts.... The camera took around 3000 or so shots on this burst setting, how can I take out a picture every 14 pics or the shots automatically? Is there any "picker" software, mac or pc, that will take 1 out of 14 images repeatedly automatically???? thanks for helping me fix my dumb mistakes- again ;-) -A907

I'm supposed to be working on my rocket project with my group, but we have a substitute today (hells yeah!) She's new to the school, which is good, because we are playing volleyball with a balloon, watching movies, and listening to music. Among our fun, we played Hangman on the SmartBoard, and popped balloons. Our rocket is about done, we just need to make a power-point as documentation, and we need to launch it, which we will do on friday!Oop! the bell just rang, cya in lunch!ROGER!!

I was teaching my kids software development. I haven't been in the field for quite some time and was wondering what would be the most appropriate choice for mobile development. For instance, I want to keep Verizon, purchase X, Y or Z phone and be capable of installing custom apps/software/whatever [so we may use GPS capabilities]. They've gone over scripting, c++ and do extremely well with c#, XNA and oop in general. We currently have a Blackberry, but we'd like to know what other options are out there so they may jump into without much knowledge of the interface. Mac products not even considered.

Well, I've converted from Firefox to Maxthon browser because I like Maxthon a lot better. However, anytime I try to comment or post anything I get the same error "Oops your session has expired, please log back in." No matter how many times I've tried I still get the same error, and I don't feel like going back to using Firefox. Is there any way to fix this?
