Brush Painting a bike

I've found some glow in the dark paint, which I'm going to use to paint my bike frame. The problem is that its brush-on not spray paint. I really want a glow in the dark frame, and I can't find any glow in the dark spray paint. All the bike painting instructables use spray paint. Does anyone have some tips on how to do a good job with a brush?

Krylon Looking Glass Mirror Paint Question

I stripped an antique mirror that was suffering from severe oxidation. I painted it with Krylon Looking Glass Paint. I was surprisingly very pleased with the results but was wondering if anyone else has used the paint and can I do a coat of black paint on top or will it react with the looking glass paint?

Paint It! contest

It seems like the Paint It! Contest has been stuck in judging for a while now. I was wondering when the winners will be announced. Also, (I may have imagined this) weren't there "runner up" prizes initially available in the contest? https://www.instructables.com/contest/paint/

Hand Painting Wine Glasses

I have always used Folkart Enamel paint to paint my wine glasses and never had any problems.   This paint is now changing to the GLOSS only in stores, I can't find it in the non-gloss anymore.    Why does the paint start cracking when I put on the 2nd coat of paint?  I'm cleaning with alcohol first, waiting 30 minutes, then painting and it still want adhere to the glass with a 2nd coat. See picture below.

Painting a jacket

I tried painting a black cloth jacket with white acrylic paint. I painted two layers of paint on it, which I thought would be enough, but later, it started to fade. And after a wash, it was a pure disaster. So I am planning on painting another jacket, so this time, I want it to be perfect. Any tips to preserve the design, or how to paint it, blah blah??? Thanks a load (if help shows up). PS I ve added a pic of my jackets current condition

spray paint shoes

I needed to change the colour of a pair of synthetic upper boots for a costume party, and this what I did. Firstly, I used spray paint. Even though I had sanded the surface, the paint would not adhere. In desparation I then used cheap acyrlic paint. Did the job superbly. The only problem is that acyrlic paint dries flat (no shine) but luckily my DH had Gloss Medium in paint box.

Spray Paint Drying

I'm hoping someone here knows something about spray paint. Specifically why some spray paints seem to take forever and a day to dry. In the attached picture the paint on the left (Metallic) dried quickly, within about 45 minutes whereas the paint on the right (Gloss Protective Enamel) is still so wet at 24 hours that I can scratch it with my thumb nail. FYI, I used both paints, one right after the other, on the same kind of metal. So if someone could let me know why some paints dry slower than others and which kind of paints to avoid if I'm in any sort or a rush I would be most appreciative. Thanks

Painting Aluminium

I'm painting some 1/16" plates of aluminium black. I gave them a wipe down, and used some generic primer and black spray paint. (I originally started off with a paint gun, but it broke). As the plate dries, it starts to crackle in some areas, but not all over. Any ideas what is going on? I've never had this problem painting steel, or wood. Do I need a different type of primer, specifically for aluminium?

Painting Wood

I've got some wood that I'd like to paint over, but it's currently got a fair bit of paint on it. The current paint is in fairly good shape and is just a little dirty. The problem is that the paint doesn't run all the way to the edges of the wood and cuts short about 3 cm from the edge of the wood. The paint is also peeling towards the edges. The reverse side of the wood has a few crevices running along it(kind of looks like a turtle shell) as well as a few peg holes. My plan is to sand the front all over and try and smooth the edges of the paint where the paint is peeling. For the other side, I'm going to fill in the crevices and holes with wood putty and then sand over as well. Afterwords, I'll probably apply some dual paint/primer spray paint on top to give it a smooth finish. Now, I have a few questions: 1. Will the peeling edges be a problem when I paint over the wood? 2. Since the crevices are fairly shallow and smooth out pretty easily, will wood putty be a good choice for filling them? 3. Any problems with using a dual paint/primer? Or would it be better to use a separate primer and then paint? I've never really painted anything, and this is pretty much the first real craft project I'm working on, so any advice would be great. If you think it might be a better idea to remove the paint, any ideas you have on how to do it would be great too. I've attached some pictures from various angles. You can probably guess what I'm going to be making :). Thanks.

Custom Etched Halloween Tombstone

I created this custom etched Halloween tombstone using builder's foam, latex paint and spray paint. The method of creation is to use a water based paint to create a resist that will protect the foam from dissolving when painted with the spray paint. This technique works really well to create the weathered stone look that older limestone monuments take on after a couple hundred years. For this project I was trying to create a broken then repaired tombstone that was partially covered in moss. Project Process - First sketch the design layout using a marker. Then paint the areas that you want to remain un-etched. Next, spray the entire face tombstone with a heavy, even coat of spray paint. It will take a few minutes... but the face will be etched as much as 1/2" deep depending on how heavy a coat of spray paint. After the etching paint has dried, paint the entire tombstone with latex primer and then add any desired painted effects. For this project, I used a grey granite spray paint and then added sand that was painted a moss green color (adhering it with spray adhesive). Total active work time was approximately 2 1/2 hours. A full Instructable of this project to follow soon...

painting a lawn flamingo

I am trying to bring back the pink quality of several Yard flamingos.  I know I could buy new ones, but certain people would rather keep for sentimental reasons, so I am trying to restore them.  My problem is when they are painted, after a period of time it chips off, I believe it is because the paint cannot deal with the flamingo plastic swell and shrink of the heat of the day and the coolness of the night.  Any ideas to extend the paint's life, would be appreciated.

Suggestions for painting an Invicta diving case?

So I've got some Instructables in mind for painting a Nerf Maverick. (Wait, you said you were painting an Invicta diving case...) Yes, you're right. The case will be a custom painted case to house a custom painted Nerf Maverick for a Christmas present. However, I have some questions about how to paint it. The case has a rough outside made from what I suspect to be high-impact plastic. The inside is smooth plastic with removable foam inserts and a rubber gasket seal. I know I will have to sand the inside to make the paint stick, but my question is if the outside is already a rough textured plastic, will I need to sand it as well? Also, what paints and finishes do you suggest for painting this case?  The Invicta logo on the back will need to be sanded (although I suppose I could leave it since they manufactured the case). The picture shows what my case looks like, minus the graffiti image. Thanks in advance, and God Bless!

Reflective paint for light fixture

Hello all, I am working on a light fixture and I would like to paint the walls of the fixture a reflective color in order to get a more even spread of light. I've been hearing silver and white as good options. Is one better than the other? Do I need a specific type of paint? Does it matter whether its a matte finish or glossy? Thanks, Ben

I've experimented with some types of plastic cover electric cord & aquarium tubing & both, the plastic reacted with the paint & never dried.  I need to know what types of plastic tube I can ether paint myself & wont melt the plastic, or point me in the detection of were I can find copper colored plastic tubing, or name the types of plastic tube that wont react to certain types of paint.

Glow in the dark paint for styrofoam balls

Hello, I made a Zelda-style fairy (as seen in this guide https://www.instructables.com/id/Zelda-Style-Fairy-In-A-Bottle/). I was thinking that I might be able to give the styrofoam ball a little more character when not lit up if I could give it a light coat of paint. If there's a glow in the dark paint I can use for this, even better. I don't want to add so much paint that it will smother the light when it's switched on. I know spray paint will melt styrofoam, so that's out. Would I be able to sort of dry-brush acrylic paint used for miniatures onto it? I have a few pots of Citadel paint on hand, or I can always run to the craft store. Heck would food coloring work? Or is the whole idea more trouble than it's worth? Thanks for any help Dave

Chalkboard paint + Degrade Spruce Plywood + Primer?

I'm thinking of sanding the plywood, then applying primer (what kind of primer? I have no clue about that), then two coats of the chalkboard paint. Is there anything wrong with my plan?

Light painting with lasers

Fade Out is a system of "painting" an image on a photoluminescent surface with lasers. It was developed by Daito Manabe and Motoi Ishibashi and can create different shades of green depending on the timing of the laser. Check out the video below to see what I mean. The source image from the webcam is used for the image that's put on the wall. via pinktentacle

conductive paint

Do any of you have experience with conductive paint? does it have much resistance?  i'm thinkin of heating car windsheild in much the same way that the rear window is done.  i've cracked 1 or windsheilds while defrosting. seems thermal shock from heat vents on dash are too much. just got a new windsheild.  don't want to break it.

Spray Paint

I've taken a small school desk and I'm trying to fix it up a bit. The table top is made of wood, but is overlaid with a thick piece of laminate. I've sanded the surface to take out the texture and markings.  I would like to give the laminate it a new paint job, but don't really know what kind of spray paint I should use. Ideas? Suggestions? I could sit here and look it up on Google, but I thought I'd try making a forum and see how it goes.
