Logic Goats papercraft

Here is a super cute little project which I found unaccredited on 4chan (who'd have thought?) Logic Goats! Papercraft logic gates in the shape of goats, which nod their head when the appropriate inputs are given. There are four (there may be others I haven't found): And-Goat Or-Goat Xor-Goat Not-Goat I haven't made any of them up but I plan to this weekend! I'll post pix if I manage to do this :) Update: these are from a website called robives.com, which sells them; I've removed these copies as they're clearly pirated. Thanks for pointing this out, meeze! I couldn't find attribution on the PDFs themselves yesterday but on checking again today, one does have the url on it and they're all on the site for purchase (see links above). (Note about Internet safety. There is an attack which is becoming more common, which can be embedded in PDFs using the Javascript capability in Adobe Reader. I did a bit of research and I am confident that these Logic Goat PDFs don't contain any malicious code, but as with anything on the Internet, download at your own risk. In general it is wise to disable Javascript in Adobe Reader, if you use that for PDF viewing. There is an interesting discussion of one of these attacks here: http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=7867)

How can I solidify a papercraft?

I want to make some props, and I've stumbled upon the idea of papercraft. Now I'm thinking of making it solid, only using paper as the substrate. I think I should simply cover it in clay, but I figure the Instructables community probably has some tricks up their sleeves. So. Anybody have some nifty tricks, or better materials to use to make a papercraft real sturdy? Maybe even making some costume armor :D Hope I can get into the prop-making/cosplay community!

You've heard of papercraft, but now tapecraft?!

Today while browsing evilmadscientist.com I found a link to this flicker set by Happy Monkey. It's tapecraft! Basically papercraft, but using tape instead. And most of the stuff is geometric figures instead of like, an Instructables robot. Here's a link to a tutorial for a dodecahedron, which looks really hard to make.I think we've got to get Happy Monkey to join Instructables ;)

Papercraft contest entry? Answered

If someone online has released plans on how to make a paper-craft, and have allowed others to print and use them as they like with free copyrights for commercial or non-commercial purposes, will an entry be considered if a tutorial on how to make the paper-craft and step by step instructions for how to make the paper-craft are given since the author of the plans only gave the plans and final product with no tutorial of any sort so its hard to make it. thanks for the help

Connecting to the network printer...(pics) Answered

I've spent hours searching the internet, but not a found an answer yet. When I use the add a printer wizard, I followed the steps as shown in the pictures below. Everything is going great, until I see my network (MSHOME) with no printer underneath (last picture). The network printer does work for the 2 Mac computers in my house, but it won't even show up on the 2 Microsoft computers. I need to print from the Microsoft computer (and not the Mac) because Papakuru paper-craft files ( .pdo file) can only be opened on a Microsoft computer. I really need to print the paper-craft patterns so my little brother can make a paper-craft Daft Punk Halloween mask! My OP system is Microsoft XP, running on a Dell computer. The network printer is hooked up to a mac computer (if that matters) Please help!!!!

Idea: drive your paper dream car!

Here's an idea I had but realistically won't have time to work on. Okay, so there are these things called kit cars that have been around for years. Basic idea being, you put a cooler looking body on your regular everyday car. Neat idea but even the cheap ones start about 3 grand! That's a lot of money for a raw chunk of fiberglass to add to car not worth half that. Also there are other disappointments like: good luck getting the exact design you want that just happens to fit your make/model. Now in seemingly unrelated news these cosplay people have figured out how to (ab)use some software called pepakura to print out life-sized paper models of swords and armor and stuff. Then to make them useable they fiberglass them, bondo and paint... HEY! WAIT A MINUTE! That's all car autobody stuff! You see where I'm going with this. Thus, therefore, and in conclusion my suggestion is that you do the following: 1) Watch "The Hero Tutorials" on youtube. Pretty much the definitive guide for the paper cosplay thing. 2) Print out a lifesize copy of the batmobile or whatever and tape it to your car. 3) Do the autobody thing for tedious weeks on end. 4) Post an instructable in a contest I'm entered in and swipe the prize right from under my nose. 5) I feel sad at having become the instrument of my own undoing... yet console myself over the fact that the net awesomeness of the universe has increased significantly.

How to scale papercraft and where to print? Answered

We are planning to do several models from Star Wars as Halloween Costumes. I have a papercraft model of an AT-ST, Darth Vaders Tie Fighter, and an Xwing. And potentially a millenium Falcon. These are currently 1/16" models. Our plan is to scale them up to about 6 feet to use as a pattern then put them over cardboard or corrugated board. What is the best/cheapest way to achieve this? I have them in a locked .pbo file and in pdf

Cellophane Recommendations

Anyone work with cellophane? I'm working on a papercraft and bought this cellophane. It is cheap, super thin and fragile and while it is fine, I was hoping to find something a bit thicker/sturdier. It kind of worked for what I am doing, but would love to know if there are other options. Anyone work with any cellophane and have suggestions? I would prefer to have a multi-color variety pack, but any suggestions are welcome :)

Can someone point me to a simple papercraft space helmet for my son? Answered

My two year old son loves stuffing buckets on his head, then walking around with them pretending to be a robot or an astronaut. I'd love to make him a proper helmet! You know, something that fits and he can see though. I was thinking something simple out of cardboard or coroplast would do the trick. I've got a full copy of Pepakura at my disposal. The helmet should be easy for him to pop on, and not so complex - I can guarantee it will not be handled gently. Got any links for me to check out?

I need glue recipes to use with my papercrafting projects

I discovered the glue I was using was not holding my papercraft beads and other stuff together. I need a strong glue to hold them together. I need a recipe so I can make enough of it myself and not have to skimp on glue. Anyone have a recipe for strong glue that can be brushed on the paper and hold long after the project is finished?

The Contest is entirely skill-based and contains no elements based on chance. The standards applied during the judging process focuses on assessing each entry’s properties. Legal/moral issue about a contest entry.

I am planning on using a previously made papercraft in one of my upcoming projects for a contest entry. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and I was going to gain permission to use this papercraft in my project from the original creator. Unfortunately, the site where it was originally posted, and any potential communication with the creator, has ceased to exist. I was planning on using this papercraft in a similar fashion quite a few years ago, sent and email, and recieved permission, but because it has been so long, I was going to do it again. Is it alright to use the papercraft (giving credit to the author) in my contest entry? What should I do?

Robot dog illusion

After posting about the 50 papercraft robots I couldn't help but print out the robot dog illusion and make it. After all, it's a robot dog version of the dragon illusion that I've been meaning to make for years now (and still haven't). It only takes a few minutes to put together so check it out. Maker Faire 2009: Piperoids

Roaming through the Bazaar Bizarre I found Piperoids, awesome little papercraft robots. And, like The Intarwebs, they're made from a series of tubes. According to the website, you don't need glue or tape for assembly - just scissors and your fingers. These little guys have quite a bit of character, too.

Kicking Me Out

I'm using Windows 7 on a desktop PC with Firefox 28.0 as the browser. When I go to https://www.instructables.com/id/Create-faceted-paper-objects/ it shows me as being logged out and won't let me log in. When I navigate to any other page on the website, I'm logged in as usual. I've tried getting to this page via the papercraft contest as well as copying and pasting the link into my address bar.

Ch, 4 In Which Mikeasaurus comes to Instructables and I Build Portal Stuff

Hey Instructabrarians! SHIFT! here to give you all of the semi-recent goings on at Instructables Laboratories! Last week, our facility opened it's doors to our newest team member Mikeasaurus! He's been a long time user and fan of the site (you might remember him from such classic 'ibles like Wristwatch Turntables, the very Blade Runner-esque Umbrella Light, and most recently the popular Magnetic Putty ) and we are pleased to have him join us. So far, he's done a terrific job helping me out with shipping out packages as well as being a fantastic go to guy for any Photoshop editing needs! As for me, awhile ago for one of our in-house contests, I was looking for unique ways to liven up our lab at Instructables HQ. My inspiration finally from a picture of the iconic cake, from the first Portal game, that hangs – on our bathroom door. I thought it would be really fun to create some kind of companion piece alongside it, and decided to make a couple of themed papercraft models based on the game. For my first craft I decided to make something that would help protect Instructables’ top secret information from unwanted intruders and rogue test subjects. “Hey”, I thought, “why not the militaristic Turret defenses?” This deadly craft was designed by deviantart’s billybob884 using Pepakura software. He has done some amazing work with papercrafts and Portal and was responsible for designing my amazing GLaDOS papercraft I enlarged 24 X for our recent Game.Life Contest. (“Oh, So NOW you’re going to mention Me? [[=REDACTED=]], you Monster.”) Next, I constructed a tiny 1- inch craft, the fan favorite friendly Companion Cube, desktop edition for our editor-in-chief zazenergy. This craft was designed by user Moony for the /po/ board on 4chan.com Just the thing to help zazenergy with some normal day to day testing! Finally I created the FrankenTurret that was featured in Portal 2 which (spoiler alert) is a horrific combination of the Aperture Science Weighted Storage Cube. This cool miniature craft, however, came from digitprop.com and was given to Mikeasaurus, who is another fellow Portal fan of our lab. I also have future plans for a fully functioning one and plan to submit it to our Simplebots curator and designer Randofo sometime soon. Anyway, I love Portal and Papercrafts so this seemed like a perfect combination to me. I have a few more Full-Scale versions for some of our upcoming contests, so that should be really interesting. -SHIFT! EDIT: I had pictures of Mike in our office, but can't seem to find them anywhere, sadly.

Abuse of "Instructables"

The term "instructable" seems to have penetrated the public conciousness enough that people can appropriate the word to try and make themselves look legitimate.I came across this video on YouTube. It's a referral scam, but it calls itself an instructable!http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=a2-IK-8qKqkI have informed the user - (Link: http://uk.youtube.com/user/3ZCASH4U ) about his offence, but have had no response.Maybe other members would want to give him a piece of their mind?(I didn't have a associated image, so I've included this sneak preview of my next papercraft Instructable...)

PKM's Gift Exchange Survey

My skills include: electronics, soldering, coding, papercraft What I'd like to make for someone: something involving those skills I'd be willing to make this size gift package for someone: S, M I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger size gift package from someone than the one I make for someone else What I like: Practical/useful things, anything that lights up, engines and flying things, photography, computer peripherals What I don't like: things you only use once, baked beans, thoughtlessness I absolutely can't have: (due to allergies, pets, etc): anything that will make too much noise Type of thing I'd love to receive: something that surprises me, that looks cool, that fulfils a useful function or is entertaining Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? Providing it's something small and the cost of postage isn't more than the cost of the item I am at least 18 years old

Recycle Heaven

I would like to propose a new Contest category, if it doesn't already exist. I would love to see a contest where EVERY LAST PART of your project must be made from used recycled old junk. Anything can qualify, just as long as it came out of something that was previously used and must be at least 10 years old. Items could be grouped into sub-categories, electronics, papercrafts, automobiles, etc, etc. Maybe such a contest already exists, but it would be nice to see people using a little more of the old stuff. I'm seeing projects from 3D printers and arduino powered robots, and that is super cool, and I want to try those projects, but that kind of thing caters to only the techno-geek with half a life time of tools and knowledge. Most of the people who come to this site aren't that tech savy, and likely don't have a Raspberry Pi, or other Arduino mini-comp to program those super-cool projects. Lets Dumb it down a bit for the rest of us. I'd like to see more posts that can be done without having to go out for anything, unless it's to go to the tool shed or Garage for that old blender you were meaning to fix 20 years ago! This site rocks! I come here every day, and it inspires me even though I don`t have some of the knowledge. But if a project posted on here costs more than a retail version of it does, then I think the point of this site has been missed entirely.

Making my way through 2012.

Hi everyone ! Since Jan. the 1st I decided to set myself up to a little challenge by "making my way" through the year. In 2011 I was really disappointed never to seem to find the time to make enough stuff, so I decided to try to make something - even a little thing - every week. So far so good, as this has forced me to work fast and not overthink projects, and also go dig in the backburner folder to look for ideas. So far I've got : Week #1 : A papercraft and duct-tape mask made after an Army of Two template ; Week #2 : A hand-knit red scarf Week #3 : Chess piece flash drives Week #4 : Mont Black pens, an update on Kingant's original instructable Week #5 : Hackerspace passports from passport-sized Muji notebooks (Instructable coming soon) Week #6 : Plaster mold of my face for a harder version of the mask in Week #1 Week #7 : Custom Wordpress theme for my blog, based on Hamasaki theme (I had lent my Dremel to a friend, which I needed for Week #8 - see below) Week #8 : Fixing and repainting a skateboard found on the street ! Week #9 : Foam mold of the plaster mold from Week #6 ! Week #10 : USB gamepad from original Xbox pad Week #11 : Magnetic blackboard for appartment door (joint project with Rvaya from 5sizes2small Studio) Week #12 : Home-made BookCrossing labels Week #13 : Coming soon ! Have any of you ever tried anything like that ? Anyone have advice for skills to pick up along the way, or fun projects to do ? I'll try to post as many Instructable as possible inspired by that little challenge in the meantime !
