George Carlin - 06/22/08

For those that are familiar with him and his comedy: Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71....More on Carlin...

Would you pay 1800GBP to pass the test?

Back in the day - more than thirty years ago - all British children had to sit and pass the "eleven plus" examination.A set of multiple-choice questions, it determined your entire future, because only by passing could you get to a grammar school, and hence to university.Although the 11+ has passed away, there are still 164 grammar schools that can only be entered by passing an exam, and it has recently been revealed that some parents spend as much as 1800GBP to train their children to pass the test.Could you pass?Follow this link to take a short version of the test - the timer is running, you have ten minutes to answer 15 questions.

iRobot Create Scholarship mini-contest

I don't know if this contest is over... I teach in a middle school and I would like to have my students create a robot that senses when someone is in the hall and ask them for a pass. The pass would need to be recognized by the robot and if the pass is not acceptable the robot would take a picture and send it to the office. I was also thinking it would be cool to have a camera on the device.

Passed 100,000 views! Where's my party??

It's not really a Help question, but I just looked and discovered my view count had passed 100,000! I'd been sort of monitoring this, and a few weeks ago, it was in the low 90s. I had hoped for a little celebration when I reached 100,000, but now that's come and gone!  Isn't there a patch or something when you reach this milestone? It's exciting!!

Will this video pass your guidelines?

I just joined your site and posted a video that is actually a part 2 to another one.  I would like to post both of them but wanted to be sure it will pass the guidelines.  I am not promoting or trying to sell anything.  I offer a site for information only.  I really wanted to show the entire theme but was not sure.  Here is the link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOy3ejaInEE     could you view this and let me know if I would be within your guidelines?  I hope I posted correctly to enter your Valentines day contest 2010.  I know your busy and I appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you,

Low pass filter on LED Music Controller

Electrical components

Is there any components that set the minimum energy to pass through? When the energy is lower than the fix amount , no energy will be passing through.  I'm trying to make a project. I'll put a dynamo on my bicycle, and it will be connected to 3 LEDs. When I cycle in low speed, only one LED will light up. When I increase my speed to certain level, 2 LEDs will light up and if it passes a certain speed all LED will light up. Any idea?

Need "Timer" help right away. Automotive 12VDC

I need a 12 vdc timer that will pass thru 12v once activated, BUT only for about 1 to 1.5 seconds. Then it has to stop passing the 12v even though it is still powered (12v is the still being supplied). Once the supply voltage is removed, it needs to reset so that it can pass thru again the next time supply voltage is introduced. I can solder & read. That is about my limit of electrical circuits. Would an IC 555 timer be able to do this somehow? Thanks STEVE.

use for intestine veiwing camera

My husband is getting ready to have a procedure done where he swallows a pill sized camera that moves through his digestive system taking pictures, then passes from the body.http://www.uihealthcare.com/news/pacemaker/2004/summer/camerainapill.html I know it sounds disgusting, but I keep wondering if there is a way to use the camera after it's been passed. If it passes before he eats anything, it shouldn't come in contact with any body waste and can easily be disinfected. It just seems like such a waste to just flush the little camera down the toilet

Stop Hackers dead

This is interesting, So Zscaler acts like a pass/no-pass Gate.   If it were a firmware gate that only could be accessed by a dedicated keyboard then it could stop hackers dead.   Yes it would force sites to hold all their content rather then pulling this from there and that from elsewhere but NO HACKERS unless they physically take a site. What say you ?

Reset password not working

I recently received a temp password for my account, and now that I am logged in and trying to change it to a new one of my own, I am running into a problem. When I enter the temp pass in the 'old password' window one, I get an error message saying "wrong password" I know the temp passes are often limited in functionality to a short time window, so am hoping for a rapid reply & help on this problem.  Mary

Window or glass film that lets light pass through, deflects heat. Does it exist?

Just wondering is there such a thing? If it does, what would it be called? I'm looking for some kind of window film that can maximize the natural sunlight coming in, yet at the same time deflect most (if not all) of the heat. Some kind of film that can be layered/sticked onto windows, glass. Been googling around to no avail. Any kind of help is appreciated

Pass PVC through a plastic lid without leaking

I'm trying to pass a PVC pipe through a plastic lid into a plastic box without leaking water from the pipe or the box. The water in the pipe will be pressurized, while the water in the box will be splashed. A small leak isn't a big deal. Unfortunately, this is also a bit of a stress point, though not terribly. See the picture and the diagram below (which is actually not quite right; the pipe on the top won't be that long; it will turn 90 degrees just above the plastic lid. Any suggestions on how to keep it from leaking? Perhaps make the T under the lid flush with the lid and the same for the elbow joint above it, and then make the hole as small as possible? That wouldn't keep all water out though, but it may work for splashes. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

air tube fitting (seal)

Greetings, I need to pass an air tube (1/8 or 1/4") through a plastic soda bottle (or milk jug) and need to seal the penetration point with some type of rubber gasket -- that the air tube will pass through the center. note: been looking all day. I think I might not be searching on the correct word. I've seen these silly things, but can't seem to locate one today. They are like little rubber donuts with a slit around the center (for wall of jug)

How to avoid CNC crashes

Hey.I am wondering if it is possible to define particular areas on the bed of my CNC machine which I do not want the toolhead to pass over. My setup is an Arduino powered CNC pen plotter running GRBL. I am generating GCode in inkscape. I know I can set a safe height for the tool to pass over work safely but what if that height doesn't suffice. Can I define an area that the tool must not pass through? As a simple example:Before running a file the tool is at the origin. On sending the file the tool will take the most direct path to the first line to cut/draw. Imagine there is an obstacle that would cause a collision if the tool takes this direct path. Can I do something to ensure the tool navigates around that obstacle?I hope that makes some sort of sense :)Any ideas appreciated

I think I inhaled a bit of cement dust...

Although I did my mixing outside (on a semi-rainy day) and held my breath while pouring the cement powder, I think I might have inhaled a tiny bit. Not a lot, but enough for a bit of coughing afterwards. The coughing is over, but my throat now feels slightly sore, but not bad enough that I want to contact a doctor. Mostly just a bit irritated, that I hope will pass. But can I eat or drink anything that might help this pass quicker? For lubricating the throat or something. Or will it go away eventually?
