I just noticed that no matter what you type into the password box, instructables logs in. this needs to be fixed!

I have seen others ask this question in the question category but I saw no answers. I do not see a settings menu. I see a 'YOU' with a dropbox menu. 'YOU' does not suggest a place for password changing nor does it seem to be a profile really. What is the answer to this question?? thank you and my password manager thanks you.....it thinks you are way too 'old'....

I recently received a temp password for my account, and now that I am logged in and trying to change it to a new one of my own, I am running into a problem. When I enter the temp pass in the 'old password' window one, I get an error message saying "wrong password" I know the temp passes are often limited in functionality to a short time window, so am hoping for a rapid reply & help on this problem. Every time I attempt to log on to the site, I am forced to reset my password. Whatever I set it to, it is rejected the next time I log on. This happens on multiple browsers on multiple operating systems. It happens with passwords I type in myself and with long passwords entered for me by KeePass. I have cleared cookies, with no luck. This has been happening for the last several weeks. Not super annoying, since I don't often have to log back in, but it still feels janky to be resetting my password so frequently. I'd rather my account not be disabled due to suspicious activity! Anyone else seeing this?

Since a couple of days I cannot login anymore. Worked fine for the last two years on the same system. The site does not remember me, and when I enter my username/password to login manually I cannot login. (username unknown or password doesn't match) The only method that works now is the following: 1) click 'forgot password' in the logon screen 2) follow the confirmation link in the e-mail that is sent 3) type the SAME password as before :-) This will log me in, but I have to repeat these steps EVERYTIME I want to use instructables. Anybody else having this problem? What is wrong? Please help... System: Windows Vista + IE

I'm not sure if this is a true bug, but here goes nothing: I tried to log in to add a comment to an Instructable, but I couldn't seem to recall my password, so I used the (lost username/password?) link at the bottom of the dialog screen and entered my e-mail. Sure enough, I received an email from you letting me log in using a reset code: Username: taserian Reset code: [CODE REPLACED] Reset here: [LINK REPLACED] But when I try to reset my password, it still asks me for my old one, which is what I couldn't remember in the first place. The reset code and link only allowed me to enter the site using my account, but won't allow me to reset my password without using my older one. To re-enter my account after shutting down my computer, I would have to resend a request for a lost username/password. The reset link should drop you into a page that allows you to reset your password. Thank you.

I have encountered a flaw in password reset. i have made a membership..not pro. but i made the account last summer and i started using this site again after about 4 months of being in-active. i started using this site again everyday for the past week. starting guessing on actual days but lets say it was Monday because i cant remember what day it was. i opened the site got to log in. cant remember password. OK. used the password reset manager. made a new pass word. that all worked. next day. Tuesday. i go to log in. my password isn't what i reset it too. so i go and reset my password again. same thing its nice and dandy. works. lets me in. next day same error occurred. happens everyday. any explanations? any fixes? am i doing something wrong?

Hi - Recieved a password change emial fromt he instructables robot on the 7th this month - i haven't been on line to request a change. Followed the email link - it does return to instructables and i did go ahead and re input my original password for the change. - then it said my account wasn't active when i attempted log-in? Then the email change form claimed it was sending a activation notice to my email??? then that my accoutn was now active - then i attempted log in and IE claimed encountering an error. came back and i'm in logged in now. but - never requested the first password change - for all the other bugs if you will and IE error /crash to happen. thoght you should know in case it's important. or if it something i should be aware of about password spoof mail. thanks -chase-

I have been trying FOREVER to change my password but cannot! I am having to use my temporary password they sent to my e-mail... it is WAY too hard to remember, not to mention the length of it. I see a lot of other people are having the same problem- anyone found out exactly how we go about doing this? It seems like everytime I try to use and find things, I am always running into problems! I am about to just delete this site all together. It just gets too frustrating EVERYTIME I come on this web-site. Can anyone tell me if it is worth staying on here? I belong to a lot of different web-sites, but NEVER had I had this much difficulty maneuvering around any of them. I would just like someone's advice about whether or not to stay on or just go ahead and leave (honestly :) ! Thanks! Junehearn

I have submitted for password retreival several times over the last 2 weeks. I never receive the email. No, I do not have a spam box. I found my password but I suspect it get's changed when one submits a retreival form since I still can not log in. So, now, I had to create a new account just to be able to post this! All I want now is for some real person (erm... no fake ppl please) to email me and help me be able to log in with my real account. I'd like to remove this account. Oh no, I hope that is possible too. Anyone working for Instructables want to email me so I can give you my other account's user id and email? So from there you can email that account a new password or whatever the procedure is? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? *weeps*

I've been reading about how easy it is for a computer to try 1000 passwords per second to get into your account. A human being could probably only try 1 every 10 seconds. So why not put a timer on the gate? If you enter the wrong password, you have to wait 10 seconds before trying another.

I have never been prompted to enter a username or password to login to my PC computer running windows XP since I purchased my computer 4-6- years ago. I had it unplugged for about 2 weeks while I moved recently. When I plugged it back in, it prompted me for a password and since I never had one or set up the computer to use one to login, its impossible to use the computer or login. I would appreciate any help with this that doesn't require formatting the hard drive. I also don't understand why windows all of a sudden asked me for a password and won't let me login without one or at least run me through the process of setting up one since I never had to use one for this computer.

So I was just trying to log in after being automatically logged in for a long time, and was not succeeding. I guess it was because I didn't read "username" next to the box, but I was trying to use my email instead of my username. I kept thinking that it was because i was entering my password incorrectly (when actually my password was correct), so I tried about 6 times. Finally resulting to "forgot my password." This process could be a lot more dummy proof. So, a "dummy proofing suggestions": Make the log in box accept both Username and Email (if programming it is not possible for some reason, perhaps just have a friendly dialog box that would pop up after a filed attempt that says "use your Username, not your Email") Thanks for reading and keep up the good work

I love Instructables but I am constantly having problems logging in. I reset my password and it shows me logged in but I can't download pdf files. It will just flip screens and keeps asking me to login again. I clean my computer's cookies and cache and sometimes this helps but it seems to me that Instructable has a problem because I don't have this problem with any other websites I use. Whenever I clean my computer, I then have to re-enter everything to all the other sites which is a real pain. This has been going on for a long time....at least a year. Will this ever be fixed? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

OK, so I'm typing on this laptop...It was assigned to Kitewife by an ex employer who seems to have forgotten they assigned it to her several years ago.If they ever ask for it back, we will happily hand it back, but they treated Kitewife very badly for quite some time before she left, so we have forgotten that we have it.Anyhoo, it works OK, little slow, but fine for the boys to use. Except that it's software hasn't been updated for at least three years. There are whole chunks of the internet that are invisible to it. The Flash, Java, Adobe, even the anti-virus are stupidly out of date.Unfortunately, the laptop has an admin password. Now, I could ask Kitewife's ex employer what the password is, but they might remember that she has it.So...Any ideas?I've had a look at the various password "hack" ibles, but they haven't been any help.

Hello. Almost whenever I try to log in on this site, there comes up a screen that says: ''Sorry, we can't find that account, or your password didn't match. Please try again!" If I click somewhere else, I'm still logged in, and can do everything normally. What causes this, and what can I change to prevent this? Greets, Mike / Dr. richtofen

If you have msn and you are worried about someone stealing your password, do the following things: >Don't give out your alternate email or its password >Don't give out your hotmail password (Duh) >Try not to let too many people know that you have a hotmail account >NEVER tick remember me on this computer when signing in >NEVER tick remember my password EVER (that's how most passwords get stolen) If you do happen to have your password stolen, send the hotmail administration email requesting your password.

I got a second-hand mac G3 for Christmas, from the sysadmin at my dad's office. Unfortunately, the sysadmin neglected to remove his accounts (and passwords), so as of yet it's impossible to get past the boot screen. Does anyone have any ideas about how I may crack the password or hack into the account... (changing the root password in single user mode doesn't work...) Oh, and by the way, it's running OS X of some sort, but since we can't log in, it's hard to know what cat it is. Help please!UPDATE:With the help of this site, we made an administrator account. We still don't know the master password, and there are a few untouchable files, but we can basically do whatever we want. The next challenge is to connect it to the internet...If you want to know how we got in, here's what we did:(1) we held down command (the propeller) and S as it booted --> this opened single-user mode, a command-line interface with root priveleges(2) instead of "rm"ing (removing), like the web site suggested, we "mv"ed (moved) /var/db/.AppleSetupDone to /var/db/.AppleSetupDone.old(3) we rebooted, and followed the instructions on the screenWhat did this do? It moved the file that told the computer that the computer was set up, so the computer ran the setup "wizard" like it was the first time the computer had ever been booted. After that, all we had to do was follow the instructions on the screen to set up an administrator (root) account. We also learned that the cat is panther, so we might be updating it to a newer version. Thanks for the help!

I forgot my password AND forgot my registered email. I created a new account but would really like to get back into my ORIGINAL account. Sent my original account a "personal message" hoping it would be forwarded to my registered email account, but no luck. Can't find a link to send an email help request of instructables. Ideas?

I couldn't find my membership and thought that it expired so I started a new one. But today I found my old one and now I am paying for two! My user names are fernmama and fern mama. Fernmama is paying installments and fern mama paid for two years. Can I please cancel Fernmama's membership?

Hello, I visit the Instructables website about 2-3 times per month (every 10 days or so), and it seems like EVERY time I do I need to login again. Even "Amazon" - and they're a commercial site - is better at "remembering me than Instructables. This is not actually a technical problem, but more of a question about Instructables policy (and also, it's a site complaint). (I can almost guarantee someone's going to misread my question so I'll say again... NOT a request for help. Yes I have cookies and JS on, and yes I'm using a good browser, Chrome.) It seems like I have to login every 4-7 days, possibly sooner, which is fracking annoying. If there a better place to post site feedback, please be gentle, I did not find it before posting. Thanks. (And despite my complaint, I love love love this website, it's in my top 5 favorites).

I have had this problem for years, yet I am only now reporting it because I have been a more frequent visitor to Instructables as of late. Every time I login with the correct password, I get a message saying that it is incorrect. So I take the 5 minutes to reset my password, but when I logout and then try to log back in (using the password that I just created) I get the same error message, saying that my password is incorrect. It's taken me a while to post something about it because it only takes about 5 minutes to reset my password. Still though, I shouldn't have to go through the trouble every time I want to login.

According to "How to Submit Bug Reports" here come the details: (A) Registration and password update accepts a password that cannot be used on the site for logging in later 1. Acer laptop, T4400 Dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM with Win7 (6.1.7601) Home Premium x64 Service Pack 1 running 2. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0 3. Instructables dot com Signup 4. Screen shots attached 5. Steps to reproduce: go to Signup, enter a valid e-mail address You remember and enter a random password e.g. 34 characters long, containing A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and some special characters, e.g. #%'(*.:?@ (I can send You the exact passwords used upon request) You can repeat this as many times You wish with the useful feature called Forgot Username/Password -> You will get the code, You can enter another password like the above and still cannot login. Another strangeness was to me that the 'restored' account had a totally different username from that I originally entered when signing up. Interesting 'phenomenon'. This does not happen with other types of passwords (weaker passwords) Suggestions & ideas: while I did not check page source, input field checking might need improvement. (Bobby Tables: A guide) Another thing (B) is that SSL on the site 'has its limits' B.1, B.2 Same specs apply B.3 Instructables dot com Signup via HTTPS B.4 I trust Your imagination, maybe there is no need for a screen shot B.5 NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID *.a.ssl.fastly.net certification provided by DigiCert (High Assurance CA-3) Steps to reproduce: - reset or check out certificates in test browser - just open the site via https:// Suggestions & ideas: the website could use StartSSL Free or StartSSL Verified Certificates An issue connected to this one is that the SSL Signup page is useless anyway, since captcha cannot be seen and/or entered the via the HTTPS version... (screen shot attached) Suggestions & ideas: make the captcha work on the https page and redirect signups and logins there by default (and then redirect back to http if the original login request came that way) Best Regards, pc-fan

I have tried several times to re-set my password without success. I fill in the access code and then fill in my new password hit submit and it keeps taking me back to that same page. I am not especially tech savvy but those instructions seem pretty simple, what am I doing wrong? Thanks Cheryl

I'VE BEEN WORKING IN AN OFFICE FOR OVER 25 YEARS, AND WE ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. LITTLE NOOGIES OF PAPER WITH PASSWORDS TO DIFFERENT WEBSITES, SCRATCHED OUT AND CHANGED, ILLEGIBLE, ETC. IS THERE A WAY TO PROGRAM A USB DRIVE TO HOLD ALL YOUR PASSWORDS SO THAT YOU DON'T NEED THE PIECES OF PAPER? SOMEBODY COULD MAKE A TON OF MONEY JUST WHERE I WORK WITH ONE OF THESE!

Good day! I wanted to leave a comment for one of the instructables, but when I place my cursor in the comment field, the login screen pops up. I entered my username and password which appears to work, as the page reloads, but when I scroll back down to the comment box and click to place my cursor, the same action occurs (the login popup appears). Thinking it may have been an incorrect password, I requested a password reset, followed instructions and was successful in changing the password. Back to the 'ible and lo and behold the same action occurs. I tried Safari and FireFox (current version) on Mac (10.9.1) to no avail. Help! Julie

The result of boredom. Numbers layer tells you what each dot is labeled. The x-y layers represent the paths. X is the first dot, y is the one you move to after that. Just make the layers visible. I didn't bother making any long diagonals because I didn't feel like it and they're hard to use anyways. I find it useful to load a jpg on my miniSD so if I forget, I can go back and see what it was before I unlocked it. (I know it's overdone, but if I'm going to be using it all the time, I might as well make it pretty)

I just joined and for some reason I can't log in. I've reset my password maybe five times in the last 5 minutes. I know that I am using the right password, but the only way I can log in is by resetting my password which automatically logs me in. Help anyone? It sucks to have to reset my password just to post a comment.
