Peep Experiments

Peeps. The fun, delicious little marshmallow chick, bunny, snowman, pumpkin, etc. that we get on Easter (or near Easter for the people who don't celebrate it.) But after Easter, when you have so many of them, what do you do with them? I know you can eat them or explode them in the microwave, but I need is a better idea. Have any?

Cool Crafty CREATIONS (for little & big peeps of all ages)

As a new mom (of six months) to a beautiful baby girl, Madeline Ann, I LOVE how I can merge my passion of creating and parenting together! Right now, I create big girl things for myself still mostly & cute things for my tiny tot. I love checking other creative momma's ideas out. (or creative people's creations', period) I started a blog www.kreativekatiekonnect.blogspot.com and I've learned that blogging as a new mom is HARD! I just can't find the time to be as consistent as I like and haven't really gotten the knack of documenting all of my projects, photographing each step, editing, writing, posting & then SHARING hoping for followers. Maybe, folks in this group who have a little blogging experience can help me out with this.  This group is made by Me for You creative folks who love to make/create almost anything & everything. (From drawing potraits, photography, any cool crafting, sewing, mod podging, refurbishing & the list could keep going to infinity, really!) I have been refurbishing old furniture lately, painting & personalizing mailboxes, creating really cool stuff for my little one & TRYING to sew a few things here and there for her (and would love to for myself). I am hoping I can share some of my ideas with you and vice versa!  I love new ideas & I really hope you will join up with me and share yours along with enjoying one's that I share with you! Please excuse my POOR grammatical errors and lack of good writing/typing.  It's difficult to type while holding a baby, rocking, ect. LOL So, bare with me & excuse my writing, but appreciate my creativity because I CAN'T WAIT to see your creations. Has anybody attempted this project before?

I got a 1952 RCA console TV I have Gutted the old CRT and chasis. I am going to replace the CRT [ TV TUBE] with a computor monitor and a cable box. I'll drill a front door peep hole viewer in front of the cable box IR sensor for remote control. I make a new custom trim plate for the new " picture tube" and I would like to use the old 8" speaker. Monitors have a more square shape than LCD TV's which is closer to the round tubes of the fiftys. Using a cable box would allow me to place the Peep site where I want it with relation to the cabinet.

driving a tri-color LED via separate 12v earth and 12v supply Answered

Hi Peeps, I'm currently (pun intended) building a motorbike and want to have minimum clutter on the bike. I am wanting to incorporate a tri-colour LED to indicate status for high beam lamp AND neutral indicator lamp. If both are active, it will indicate Amber(or yellow). so the problem is, high beam is easy to acheive as its a 12v supply, neutral is more complicated as this operates pysically via earth on the gear change. I need some sort of relay to drive a 12v supply, but have very limited space to do it in. do you guys have any suggestions? I'm looking at a height of 10mm max and length 20mm so transistors or something. I can solder and follow a circuit board so any suggestions what to do would be appreciated. Thanks peeps

How can I make a cheap, basic video surveillance system?

I just moved into a two-story house with a lot of poorly-placed windows. I plan on spending most of my time upstairs (as both my bedroom and my workspace are upstairs), and even if I'm downstairs it's hard to see if someone's at the door. I was thinking that I could get a wireless camera set up outside my front door with a live video feed running on my computer, and possibly having it somehow visible downstairs as well. However, I have absolutely no idea how to do that, and other tutorials I've found only take photos, or require an extremely expensive camera. I don't need anything too secure, just a digital peep-hole, essentially. Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Valley View Park Update 1

Here's the first update of Valley View Park. Please see the first forum before seeing this one.                                                         June 2010 The park has undergone several changes during the last few months. First of all the main street has been redone with a brick paving as seen in pictures 1 and 2. Peeps seem to like this change as it gives the main street a more "main" feel to it. Blackbeard's voyage has continued to attract a lot of guests as seen in pic 3. The Castle surrounding it gives the peeps a ride to remember. Pic 4 shows the viewing tower which has started to be demolished as not many people have visited the tower. Mr. Fredrickson says that the park will replace the tower with another ride. As we can see in pic 5 Inversion Spinner continues to attract a large amount of peeps due to the intensity of the ride. It has become the most popular ride in the park. Python is also very popular although we can see in pic 6 that a new sign has been put up. It says to wait for the previous person to arrive at the bottom of the slide before you go down. This has been put up because of some accidents that have happened. In the next pic(7) we can see a new ride that has apparently replaced twister as it was not very popular. In pic 8 we can see a large amount of peeps going to the new ride. Pic 9 shows the entrance to the new ride DESTRUCTION. Pic 10 shows that it is a revolution ride that has replaced twister. The new ride attracts much more people than the previous ride. In pic 11 we can see that the park has been able to buy some new land. The barren field was bought but the owner has not revealed what he plans to use it for. This new property has elarged the park. In pic 12 we see that junior wheel has been practically deserted. It would not be a surprise to see this ride demolished. Pic 13 shows an overview of the park. The future of this park lies in the hands of Mr. Fredrickson.

D.I.Y. Automotive Black Box, DVR, OBDII

Friends, I am a noob that is considering building a Black Box for my car, I suspect that I am not the first so please if you know of discussions on developing an awesome Black Box please direct me to it. The Black Boxes being offered are Gold Dusted empty, expensive crapware. I want added protection from bad drivers, bad insurance companies and bad cops so I want six or more 1K or better cameras and DVR with the ability to store on any size SD card and/or SSD. I also want telemetry from many sources like GPS, speed, throttle and brake pedal positions, steering degrees, OBDII and more. Two problems I suspect will be power drain when the car is parked and chip cooling. I'd like to Stink Tank this idea with interested peeps (WOW! I always wanted to use Peeps, yeah, I know Late) I look forward to hearing from you Sincerely

Where do you find 24 Bit Audio files??

Hey guys, I've been googling around, and I'm not nessesarily looking for a "warez" site, but I'm trying to figure out where you would find 24 bit audio files, like a flac file or something (stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec). I have a 24 bit creative sound card, I figure, why not LISTEN to it in 24 bit, but of course that wouldn't make sense unless it was recorded in 24 bit in the first place, as far as I know you can't really "upscale" audio such as that with a video file. Any suggestions peeps?? Pm me if you have to.

Small Solar panel(s) with output equivalent to a good USP port

Hello all, Seems like this should be a good competition type project.  Being a hiker and bicycle traveler, I would love to have a small, (read lite), solar panel that would keep my electronics powered up.  The electronics would be, a phone, front and rear light or headlamp, a small 7" tablet, and maybe a small mp3 player.  Ideally the output would equal that of a good USB port, 5volt and ~2amps.  The charger for tablet states 2.1amps.  Sorry I'm not dialed in what ideal amperage would be, but I do know that not less than 2amps, right? Anyways would love to see a competition among the peeps all dialed into this with the parameters stated above.  I'm sure other parameters would be worked out too.  If there's something out there in the real world that maybe you think would suit my needs, lets see what there is out there!  Feel free to post up.

How to use a compound bow?

I am trying to figure out how to use it effectivly and accurately. I do know that when you put the arrow on, it should be odd fin sticking away from the string. However, i am not sure if i should be putting the arrow above or below the small bead on the string. I use a peep sight and am trying to figure out how to sight in my pins the correct way.  ANY AND ALL information and tips (especially answering the questions above) would be appreciated! The main questions are do i put the knock of the arrow above the bead or below it and the other question is how do sight in my sights. The top pin is 15 yards and it is high 10 inches and left by like 2 feet for some reason when i try. Thank you!

Subscriptions - spoiling the surprise. (Hey, Rachel!)

Yes, I know this is, technically, feedback, but I thought other people might want to know about it as well.Did you know that anybody that subscribes to you can see all your projects, not just the published ones?If you did, good for you. I didn't, and now it turns out that quite a few people have been peeping at projects that I may not finish for some time, if at all, and all without me knowing. One recent planned project I had high hopes for has just had a setback today, and now may not happen. Subscribers may have been looking forward to it, and I may now be disappointing people without being able to prevent it.I'm not saying that anybody who subscribes to me at the moment would spoil the surprise for other members, but there is always the chance that somebody could spoil things. I think many of you reading this will know the kind of person I mean, even an actual example. That means that there is at least one surprise project out there (not one of mine) that could be spoiled by what is probably just a line of dodgy script. So, if you are planning any surprise projects, don't start writing them up yet, unless you have no subscribers, and if you are reading this and able to fix the bug, please, fix it quickly.UPDATE: Link to proper "feedback" thread

could you use an tesla turbine to make an jet engine? Answered

I was looking around the webs, and i found that there was no information about an Tesla turbine-jet engine. i was wondering if a Tesla jet engine is possible. so i looked up jet engines and tried to figure out how they work, but i still dont know if it work. so i thought i would ask some smart peeps who would know the answer. also i did see a guy who made an pulse jet engine with an Tesla turbine on it but thats not the same as a jet engine. but it did gave me a few ideas(see picture made in solidworks by me (yes its not very pretty, made it in like 30 sec)) i thought of an Tesla jet engine but i dont really think it can work. plz give feed back and help me in my quest for jet Tesla engines. this jet engine sucks up air with the big Tesla turbine and adds fuel to the air  then burning it causing it to expand forcing it true the second Tesla turbine which powers the first thus the cycle is complete i guess. A = air inlet (yes i know the turbine in front is bigger then the turbine in the back idk why i did that XD ) B1&2 are the drive shafts you could connect b2 to b1, or b1 to extra fans or props to make a jet prop engine ¿? (XD) c is fuel inlet, i dont know how this should work

Brand new 5.5hp engine/packer won't run?

Hey peeps, me again. My father recently put up a little shed (one with the frame and tarping) and he put a dirt floor in, and also we just put new gravel in the driveway after digging it all out. Well he's borrowing a packer from the construction company he works for, for packing the dirt down and possibly the driveway. It's got a brand new 5.5 honda utility engine on it (although it had a big lump of clay fall on the gas tank, it's nearly inverted :p ). We had it running last night but it was fluttering, we only had to move it so we never used it. Today, a whole different story, it sputterd for about 5 seconds and stopped. We (well me, he's just sitting here drinking) can't get it to work. I've cleaned the sparkplug. Pulled the gas tank off and completely emptied it out thinking maybe someone at work put diesel in it by accident or something. Put it all back together, and I got it to run for a couple second a few times. Also, I pulled the oil dipstick out, and it's one of those engines where it's not a verticl dipstick, it's basically diagonal, on a slant. And the tag that's still attached to the engine showed a diagram where it shows to check the oil, and showed where the oil level should be. Well Not the case, oil literally GUSHED out of the opening as soon as I opened it. (Long long post I know).. So I emptied the oil out so it wasn't "flowing" out of the hole (after this is when I got it to run a couple times). I'm so "fricken" confused. I know what I'm doing, just finished a advanced engine course. But what the fuck?! My last guess is perhaps change the oil (gas in it?!?). It's now 6:10pm and well basically no day left. I've spent all day tinkering with it. If anyone actually made it to the end of the post, I really need some help. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks in advanced

Are you guys up for a challenge, I need a hand with something

Well, peeps, I got a challenge you guys are going to help me with. Let me explain what it's about. We pay $35 something a month for 3mbit internet. I've only ever seen 1.3-1.5mb of it. The CO (Centeral office, it's a brick building they place in each "area" and it handles all the telephone and internet connections for you area, most isp's have one or more in each town they cover and those buildings are linked with fibre optic cables) is just down my street, I can practically walk out my front door, down the street and see it. So I'm rather close, and to top that, tiverton (where I live) is where my isp decided to set home, the "HQ" is just a km down the road from my CO building. Logic tells me that I should and have the right to get all of that 3mb I pay for, I can see if I live a certain distance away, but I don't. Here's where it get's a bit interesting, I was suggested to by dijital101 to run some cat-5 cable between the junction box and my dsl modem. Well that's just what I did today, I bundled the 8 seperate wires into two big wires (4 each) and even soldered them to ensure a good connection. Ran the wire, connected it all, attached a phone plug onto the other end of the ethernet cable and got it all hooked up. Well wouldn't you know, I see not one bit of differnce. Speed tests still show like 1.2-1.5mb (When It starts, it takes forever to even build up speed). But Interestingly enough...I get full upload speed (512k is what I get for up). When I'm uploading something too, such as files or torrents, if I let it go the full 70kb/s it limits my download speed to 30kb/s around there. This is something I've had to put up with for a long time, if anyone is familiar with "BMTS" that's my isp. My question is, what is there I can do to fix it? I even unhooked the wire coming off the telephone pole, cut the ends off and re-stripped the wires and that did nothing either. The wires are pretty old and tarnished, even under the rubber coating, and they're kinda peeling too. Should I call my isp up and complain again, think they'd come and replace the line? I just don't know what to do, if I can fix it, I'm going to cable internet.

Valley View Park: An RCT3 park

I have seen many people on the Atari community forums make a park and tell a storyline of the park and it's owner. I decided I would start this one on Instructables. Remember that this storyline stuff is not my own idea but the park is and the actual storyline of this park is also original. I will be explaining each picture in depth. When I put a number in the text it means you should look at that picture. Fun fact: There are 47 pictures! :-O                                                            March 2010 It has been officially announced in the paper that a new theme park has opened on the Spring highway about forty kilometres Northwest of Central Coast, Australia. The funds from several schools and high schools around Central Coast had gone to Mr. Fredrickson to build some kind of entertainment on this small piece of land just after the Trail river bridge. He has apparently decided to build a theme park called Valley View Park. Part of the park can be seen from the bridge as seen in the following picture:1. The entrance can be seen in the following picture.2. It may only be the opening day but it seems people have found out about the inauguration day. People are already coming down the path that leads to the entrance as seen in picture 3. Photographers from local newspapers have been given permission to take pictures and write articles about the new park. Picture 4 shows a camera crew coming across the bridge. Mr Fredrickson has decided to give the camera crew a tour of the park. As the crew enters the park they can see several undercover food stalls as seen in picture 5. There are a few more stalls on the right and an entrance to a garden in picture 6. In picture 7 you can see the rest of the main street including information booths and a bathroom at the end. You must travel through a brick building to get to the garden and picture 8 shows the garden from the inside of the building. Once the crew explored the garden they continued the tour down the main street and found the entrance to main ride of the park which is called Blackbeard's Voyage as seen in pictures 9 and 10. It is surrounded by a castle and can't be seen until the crew enters the castle structure. Upon entering the crew finds out that the ride is a pirate ship ride surrounded by pirate animatronics as seen in picture 11. As they get closer to the entrance of the pirate ship, they get a much better picture of the ride. Picture 12. Mr Fredrickson gave the camera crew a picture of when it had finished being constructed. Picture 13 shows how there are several cannons pointing towards the ship when the ship is in motion. This gives the peeps an experience of being on a pirate ship. Luckily the cannons don't shoot cannonballs. Mr Fredrickson has no plans of relocating it or taking it out of the park as it is the most popular ride and the castle surrounding it brings lots of peeps to the ride. In picture 14 you can see the control booth where the operators are. As the crew exited the ride they saw treasure chest all over he place as seen in picture 15. The exit leads back to the main street so they kept walking and turned right at the entrance of Blackbeard's voyage and saw the top spinner ride called Inversion Spinner seen in pic 16. Before riding the Inversion Spinner Mr Fredrickson wanted to show the camera crew the viewing tower to the left seen in pic 17. Pics 18 and 19 show the flight of stairs and the viewing balcony. After coming out Mr Fredrickson directed the crew to a small garden with an oak tree in the middle. Pics 20 and 21 show the garden. Mr Fredrickson explained that the tree is an endangered oak so he decided to build the park around and keep it in good condition. Pic 22 shows the entrance to Inversion Spinner and pic 23 shows the ride. Pic 24 shows the control booth for this ride. Pics 25 to 27 show the entrance to the Viewing Canopy and pic 28 shows the viewing canopy. Pic 29 shows the bridge from the lookout. People come here to see the the valley and the Trail river which can be seen in pic 30. As the Camera crew exited the viewing canopy Mr Fredrickson took them to the next ride which is a spiral slide named Python. Pics 31 and 32. Pics 33 and 34 show the entrance to the next ride which is a twirler ride named Twister. Pic 35 shows the ride's control booth. Pics 36 and 37 show more of the ride. This ride is not as popular as the other rides so it would not be surprising if it was taken out at some stage. Pic 38 shows the exit of the ride. The park owner then takes the crew to the las ride which is a ferris wheel named Junior Wheel. Pics 39 and 40 show the entrance to the ride and pic 41 shows the ride. pic 42 shows the control booth. This is a popular ride for couples and small kids. Pic 43 shows the park view from the top of the Junior Wheel. After the crew left the ride they headed back to the main street shown in pic 44. Before they left the park they interviewed Mr Fredrickson about upcoming plans. Here is what the park owner had to say: "The staff and I are very happy about how popular our opening day was. We have already been able to determine the most popular rides although this may change in the future. If we get as much money as today for the next few months we'll be able to expand the park and add more rides. We have recieved many questions from guests asking if there is a roller coaster in the park. That may be a possibility in the future. We are now focusing on buying two pieces of land that belong to local farmers. Pic 45 shows both properties. The large property is very barren and the farmer would be happy to sell it at a good price. The second property will be harder to buy because it's owner has had a good harvesting year. If we can raise enough money to buy the properties then it will give us much more land to build on. Any other future plans will not be revealed today." The owner gave the crew a great tour of the park and they plan to publish it in the newspaper as soon as possible. The future looks bright for this new park. Pics 46 and 47 show the park from an aerial view. Be sure to check back every now and then for updates on the park. Any questions will be answered. Please subscribe and thanks for taking your time to read this. The updates won't have to be as long as this one.

TheDunkis's M4 Carbine

Ok well I really wanted to make my own to show my friends and even my dad for self satisfaction but I decided seeing that we don't have an M4 that both looks good and works great that I'd show you guys too. Uh let's see I'll just make my pros and cons list for a basic run down of my gun then I'll explain in better detail below that. Pros -30 white rod rounds med-cap magazine may become detacheable with simple mods (it's set up to be I just fixed in there for more support) -Cocking handle set up on firing pin to reset the pin then slide back automatically so pin is not in your way -4 sided rail system can have many features attached to it -true trigger Cons -Stock is only decently strong as I'm working on making it adjustable -Trigger guard area may be small for bigger hands but easily modable (it's a little tight for me and I have very small hands :( ) -Back sight need's to be secured in it's position while front sight may spin out of place. I'm working on this -Hard to muzzle load anything other that a grey rod and this still requires a tad bit of work -Near mid magazine it might jam if you fill it with ammo to that point -Uh I can't remember anything else but I'll be sure to list any more that I find. OK for details It uses another curved magazine (yes I like curved magazines) although it only uses joints and no bendies. 30 rounds like I said although if you fill it up to a certain point you may potentially jam it unless you watch carefully. It has the potential to become detacheable on how I made it but for now I just added a couple pieces to make sure it wont just fall out or wabble. It uses a basic but strong firing pin with a cocking handle system that is rigged to pull back the firing pin but then slide back into position so that you may rest your cheek to aim without the firing pin in your way. It uses a basic true trigger mechanism that I don't know who invented I just remember seeing it somewhere then I modified it to work in my gun. It uses a pretty simple idea for making a 4 sided rail system. I swear I did not take this idea from any other guns although I've seen one just recently that uses a similar system. For the sights I made a small peep hole for the back and then I just use one of those orange "handle" connectors or whatever you want to call them for the front blade. I'm trying to make the stock adjustable but for now I just have it fixed. Hopefully I get a picture up soon. Hmm either the spell check isn't working or I typed a perfect paragraph! By the way I really want to make another video soon so I might use this gun for a video. I'll most likely only get videos of guns with either a lot of features or ones with a new mechanism.

I need to get a server up and running!!

Hello peeps. It is me again, I have a couple questions and I'm hoping that someone pays attention to it. 1. I tried to get my p2 (pentium 2) going so I could eventually use it as a media server/download server (it is fast when you get a few hundred mb of ram and 80 gig hd in there at 467mhz). Well it seems to have a habbit of rebooting itself when you think "aww I can relax now, I have windows installed and everything setup" then it "BOOSH" restarts and comes up with a lovely lovely lovely (I could go on like this seeing as I've reinstalled windows xp on here 10+ times, yes I sit in the corner from time to time and just shiver) error: System Disk Error, press ctrl+alt+del (never could find that key..). Somehow this clever ass machine has found a way to corrupt it's own partition. I have ram for it that once did work in there too, but now when I put it in now, it doesn't boot, hangs and beeps. So should I just trade it for another (I know a guy that runs a comp shop with quite a few oldies laying around, perhaps I could score a p3) or is there something I can do to get it up again, my parents paid around $2000 for it when it came out (apparently 32mb ram, 4mb agp card, 6 gig hd) is top of the line in 1999 :-/ ) and I wan't to "whip" a few more tb of data out of it. That being said,..on to the next question 2. I just upgraded/installed new software for my ibm thinkpad r51. Medly little ibm has all it's own network utilities and whatnot (but when you don't use it, it's hell frozen over). Well before the upgrading (just like upgrading software from say 3.5 to 4.1 or the such) I could see the ibm from my ibook g4, and share files, but it was nearly 1 way as the thinkpad couldn't see the mac for some ungodly reason. After install, nothing at all. I'm rather annoyed and having read article after article of documentation for microsoft and other sites, it seems as simple as just being connected to the same AP (yes I'm using wireless and btw, my router doesn't support cross networkings, so I can't share between wireless computers and those on ethernet, not a big problem so I'll move on)... and have them all on the same workgroup, which even if they aren't you're supposed to still be able to network and it appears to be just as simple as that. Apparently not. Why can't my windows pc's see each other on the wireless and I can't even see the thinkpad on my ibook anymore. One more people 3. I decided to hook my other desktop machine (Athlon xp 1800+), but unfortunatly it has a fan the size of my foot and a 8000rpm fan attached to it, while it keeps it almost down to 20 C, it makes so much noise you can hear it anywhere in the house, could I put a control knob or the such in line? Thanks for your help if anyone chooses to be a big help and give me a hand with a few things and I promise I won't bug again. I just have had these few things I need to fix for such a long time but no one wants to help me, I'll admit, it's not something anyone really wants to get into,..networking and whatnot, but if someone can just sit down with me, possibly on msn so I can try things out basically in real time, then I would be forever greatfull. -Punkguyta

China's first Maker Faire !

April 6th was a long night that would be followed by an even longer day. Hours stretched like taffy as the Airplane pulled me across time zones. I was on my way to the Shenzhen Maker Faire which was being put on by Eric Pan, the founder of one of the largest open sourced businesses I know. Eric is a visionary, and his vision to inspire more makers in China connecting them with a global maker movement through the concepts of openness, sharing, and innovation inspires me and hundreds others to come to Shenzhen to share in the first Maker Faire in China! Hours ago I was at Instructables cooking my Last Breakfast for the office and gaving my Last Hugs. Qarly, my new friend, had helped my stay up all night organizing my tickets and suitcase. She went with me to the Payless shoe store on her bike as I walked barefoot. Yes, I started my journey shoeless. I had traded in my Vibrams at REI for a large backpack so I could cram as many arduinos and 3D printers into it as possible before leaving to go spread the good words. Here are the good words as I see them right now: "It Can Be Done." Yes, with a solid mission, a relentless attitude and accepting being shoeless (or jobless, or hungry, or ...) it's possible to accomplish the things you dream. Boom, back in that tin can flying over the Pacific. My schedule starts with a trip to Hong Kong to meet up with instructable's member Prank. Alex Hornstein and I had recently completed an adventure in 3D printing called the Pocket Factory in which we traveled across America seeking the business models behind low cost 3D manufacturing. He is now back in east Asia being the revolutionary philosopher engineer he is. I land at 8pm and head out into the city of the future. Hong Kong is a city of millions, beautifully lit tall buildings, zippy public transportation, and the largest pay inequality in the world. Looking out the window I keep wondering if this is the rich part, or the poor. Then I was there. I made it to IFC - a gigantic mall in the heart of Hong Kong. The metro stop inside it is called "Hong Kong Station". Yep, shopping is big here. We hung out on the roof of IFC talking projects. Without giving too much away too soon let's just say Alex is on his way to revolutionize the micro solar industry. We took the familiar ferry route home and I spent the night organizing and updating the social world since I knew in a few hours I'd be in China... and in China, no one can hear you tweet. Before I knew it I had to be off! It was 6:20am (HK time) and the ferry leaves at 6:40, I had a long day ahead of me and I haven't slept yet. Holy crap! I ran and got right back on that ferry from Lama to the mainland. Passing all the tall buildings once again and rushed onto the MTR. As we sped along the Hong Kong landscape of tall towers slowly turned into green rolling hills and the people on the train spoke less and less english. I crossed the border into Shenzhen and it was there I met Ani, the Monk. What a beautiful lady! We had a great conversation involving LOTS of smiling, drawing and almost no words. She was from Hong Kong and we were now friends. We traded bracelets and now I have one more reason to learn Mandarin! I finally made it all the way to Xi Xiang, the metro stop which was walking distance to the Maker Faire! I was getting pretty excited, I had lugged all this stuff across the world, and finally I was going to meet the makers of China! After a long and potholed walk I finally made it to the gate where a nice young Chinese lady helped me carry my stuff, we walked down a long outdoor hallways at F518 the "First Experiential Sharing Space in China" which was filled with sculptures and art. Billboards around me advertised hip hop dance classes and robots peeped from the windows. I knew I was in the right place. Right near the entrence of the Maker Faire was a strange robot. It was the size of a small house and it served books. They have robot libraries in Shenzhen. Wow! The more I learn about this place the cooler it seems! The faire is a large three story space with a media space on the first floor where people can buy "chinese make" a magazine called Radio that has been teaching people how to make stuff since 1955. The publishers of this magazine are also the ones who do the translation for Makezine! The second floor is filled with long tables of makers, a huge hall filled with running robots, dancing droids, DIY laser 3D scanners, touchless IR interfaces, octocopter (no, not tacocopter) and all the awesome stuff you'd expect to see in San Francisco, except this is Shenzhen. There are makers everywhere! Upstairs there are people making clay figurines, another instructables user - Star - runs a workshop around Canidu (yes, you can do!), her company which makes an electronics learning tool. This movement is obviously global and the Shenzhen Maker Faire has pulled makers not only from all over China, but all over the world. Eric Pan, the founder of Seeed Studio employs 70 people through an open source project and through this faire has inspired hundreds. At the after party, you can really tell how proud Eric was to have brought amazing makers like Mitch Altman and David Li from the Shanghai hackerspace together. Eric has a new project in the works right now. He's soon to be a father! I can only imagine how proud he will be when baby Eric Pan picks up his first blinky LED kit. Now that's some serious making! +Bilal Ghalib PS. Eric in the last picture is not dead, only extremely exhausted!

What components do I need to produce my 3 rechargeable Power-Packs using what ive collected so far ? Please can anyone help ?

Hello & Good day to you all, I'm making my own powerpacks for: a miniature wireless CCTV camera & receiver (Link Below for specs) , and a rechargeable powerpack to charge my laptop (that dies in 15minutes!) Wireless Pinhole Spy Camera & receiver After spending stupid money on sh*t 9 volt batteries (600mAh = £11 EACH) - ive had enough of the crap and absolutely absurdly LOW capacity 9 volt batteries out there (when TODAY's 'D' cell is capable of 11,000mAh !!!) and extremely high cost - i am making a battery-pack to power my receiver and another power-pack for the wireless camera using Ni-MH rechargeable batteries in the following packs: Powerpack 1 (for camera) 6 x 18650 cells @ 3.6v each, 5000mAh {Total Power=21.6v} Output Power Needed:  8v, 200mA Powerpack 2 (for camera receiver) 24 x D Size cells @ 1.2v each 11000mAh ( Total Power= 28.8v)  Output Power Needed: 12v, 500mA  Powerpack 3 (for Laptop) 40 x D cells @ 1.2v each, 11000mAh {Total Power=48v} Output Power Needed: 16v, 4A  I should add that my existing 9-volt (2 new & 1 old) rechargeable batteries are a little-more-than USELESS (Rated @ 175mAh...{USELESS}) as the receiver of my wireless camera drinks the power (juice, lol) at an extremely FAST-Rate... 15 minutes of use and its DEAD. 10 mins of use from the old 9 volt battery. And thats all from a 9 hour charge... How pitiful...Despicable & Disgusting... Now i got the idea to use a semiconductor from an instructable to make a simple solder-fume-extractor... (Link Below!) and also i know that resistors can reduce the voltage and amperage output of a circuit.......... Solder Fume Extractor I have calculated, researched, 'Googled', calculated again, more googling and after 6 months of trawling through the internet to find parts of designs i could hack together to achieve my goals including getting answers from "SO-CALLED-EXPERTS 'In the trade'" and from Circuitry & Electronics Forums (whom shall not be named...) yet they always say, yeah, here's my email address, email me your questions and when i do, they all turn around and gimmi some crap like "oh...well...you have your plan all set-out so what do you need me for ?" AS*HOLES! F*C*ING AS*HOLES!!! - If these peeps didnt want to help in the 1st place, then WHY BOTHER to give me their email address so i could ask them directly for help ? Im now going to give up and finally cry-out --- Please HELP (Again and probably for the last time!) ok ok, enough of the hell's-anger-fuelled-rage-at-"EXPERTS" who give me the run-around.....(Bcoz they're AS*HOLES...) Please please please can anyone help me find the components i need to make my very simple circuits for my battery packs ! I know that the use of a/a few? semiconductor/s (3 pin only) can let in a certain voltage and only output a specific voltage & amperage - i think i'll be needing a combination of a semiconductor and a resistor but i've searched continuous for 6 months now and am now irritated-beyond-belief that i still haven't found what im looking for or that no one is willing to help! ffs! Many thanks in advance for some light on this darn-troubling matter.... Please Help !!! Power-Specification For My Gear: Wireless Receiver: DC 12V 500mA Wireless Camera: DC 8V 200mA Sony Vaio Laptop 16v, 4A Also how do i charge my individual power-packs ? At what volts & amps do i charge them ??? Im already severely mobility-impaired and wouldn't want my life getting worse by any of my battery-packs exploding near me!!!!  Ingredients i have collected So Far: - 12 x 18650 5000mAh Batteries (Li-ion) (i want to make a total of two power-packs with these) - Solder Tabs for battery Packs -Small to medium collection of semiconductors + (plus) & - (minus) output voltages (from -24v to +25v) and from 100mA to 1.5mA amperage... - Heatshrink (40mm, 50mm, 70mm) - 24 x D cells @ 11000mAh - 40 x D cells @ 11000mAh I have no resistors but can order anything i need online if i only knew what to order!!! i would also need to include a circuit to prevent deep-discharge & over-charge! This is where i need the main help: I cannot read electrical diagrams at all but try to but it takes a day of deciphering and thats only if i do it right, i have dyslexia and am fighting daily with it when it comes to referring to any diagrams concerning circuits so would it be possible if someone could draw the circuits i need onto an a4 piece of paper and photograph it to be posted here (or draw it in paint, lol) - what i mean is, to draw a basic 3 pin semiconductor (a square with the 3 pins coming out the bottom, lol) and then draw the wires that need to connect to all the 3 pins to then for the wires to go to whatever component they need to go to next, for example ? {the 'solder-fume-extractor's' wiring picture where you can clearly-see where all the wires connect to all the components is the only type of simple diagram i can read by myself} Still wiht me ? i lose myself sometimes! So as i understand it, from what ive been reading so far, as long as the voltage output of the battery pack is correct, say for example for my wireless camera, if ive used a semiconductor to get the voltage of my power-pack down to give an output of 8v rated to 500mAh, as the device (wireless camera) only uses a max of 200mAh, then does this mean that the device will only use what it needs and ignore the rest ? Also it has taken a week of help from many friends of mine to help write this question and to keep it on-track with my main goals for the 3 power-packs listed above! if anyone needs more info, please let me know and i shall endeavor to reply as soon as humanly possible, again many thanks for your help Again, many thanks in advance for all help given and i sincerely apologize the long speech of a few questions, im afraid i get too-specific when asking for help (and often branch-off far-too-much, like now, lol)
