Dishwasher spray arm: make/buy and attach to PVC

What I'm trying to accomplish: a usable dishwasher spray arm, that can attach to a PVC pipe, for reasonably cheap. I'm not against buying one, and I've looked at this one, which is snap-on, and this one, which has a nicer price but it's hard to tell how exactly it might work (or more likely, not work). I mean, how would you ever attach that to PVC? And the former is a little on the expensive side. I've also thought of making one out of PVC, since you could easily drill small holes in a piece of PVC pipe and stick them onto a T. But that has the problem of not being able to spin at all, much less spin on its own. I have searched long and hard and have not been able to find any sort of rotary union that would work (and I'm afraid even if I did, it may not allow free passage of water). A solution for spinning on its own may be as simple as making the pipes "bent," so the water would force it to spin as it goes around the corner. TL;DR: How can I make/buy a dishwasher spray arm that can attach to PVC (actually two of them)? And in case you're wondering, yes, this is for a dishwasher (DIY). Thanks for the help!

UPDATED: Today I was totally GROSSED OUT....Plus pics, and progress !

The landlord came today to "fix the walls" again, like he did a few months ago, and again 3 days ago....but his helper told him this wasn't working...so they started tearing the Bathroom and Bedroom wall (the adjoining wall) down.  The portion towards the outside wall of the building.....they found a pipe that was leaking....a big 9 or 10 inch iron pipe......guess what?   That is the drain from upstairs for the bathroom sink, the bath tub, and the TOILET.   For over 6 months now, we have had our bedroom wall deteriorating and being soaked by SEWAGE.... The helper told me in confidence that we are not the only ones he does this too.....grrrrrrrr. Pictures have been updated with ones I took...

plumbing shelves?

Hi! I was watching a home show, "Beyond the Box," and there was a segment about an architect who build a wall-sized bookshelf out of heavy-duty plumbing pipes, wood planks and cable wire (the kind you see on staircases). I only got about a 20-second look at the thing, but it looks wonderful --very funky and industrial, but clean. I've never seen this before and would love to make one for my home office, but have no clue how to do it from that one video. Has anyone seen/built this sort of thing? Can anyone offer advice about how this might work? I'd be grateful for any help you can give. Thanks!

Ingenuity in the cannabis community

This is an inquiry aimed at the moderators and staff of the site specifically, but should also involve the community. I live in Northern California, which is one of the world centers of marijuana use and culture. My entire life I have been exposed to users of the drug, and it is a drug, although a largely harmless one in comparison to other legal drugs (and let's not make this a debate, please. it's not the issue at hand, argue about that in other places PLEASE). I would also like to add that I do not, never have, and will most likely never smoke marijuana unless I develop a medical condition for which it is prescribed. Being a maker, I have noticed the large amount of art, ingenuity, and design that goes into the smoking devices that these people use. This creativity and design is something that I feel should be shared on this site. Marijuana is a drug that is legal in many places, either freely available or medicinally, or in a legal gray area. In fact, it seems much more legal, and arguably safer than a portion of the projects on this website. From the perspective of someone who does dumb things safely, I have seen some stuff on here that is terrifying at worst, and dumb at best. That said, it's all usually creative, and awesome, and is by no means representative of the vast majority of content on this site. tl;dr: marijuana apparatus can be very creative and artistic, values supported by this site it is legal in various areas and a lot safer than some things I have seen on here The actual question: What is the official position of the mods/staff/community on posting content including or related to marijuana smoking apparatus? I have made many different kinds of smoking things for my friends, and it is a much more in depth and scientific process than one would imagine. If it's okay, I would like to share some of these creations. also, that's not my picture, just an example of an intricate bong.

Leaking PVC Soil Pipe

The PVC soil pipe under our bathroom has developed a slow leak. This pipe is inaccessible as it runs under a platform that lifts the bathroom above the concrete floor of our enclosed garage. It may be a crack in the pipe (unlikely) or a connection between the tub and the main pipe (more likely). Is there a liquid sealant that I can pour into the tub drain that will seal this obviously small opening?

Help Needed with Clogged Air Vent Drain Pipe and ? on Dishwasher Drain Pipe

I need help and learning how to remove, de-clog, etc. The picture is my kitchen sink drain area.  I have two-sink with the right side having a garbage disposal, with connecting pipes leading out.  But then, I have another pipe leading out in the same direction, but it serving as an air vent pipe.  There's a cooper pipe leading up and into the air vent pipe. Prior to taking the picture, my dishwasher's drainage pipe was connected to the bottom of the cooper pipe.  Well, last night I've noticed my sinks were clogged, I ran the garbage disposal, and then the a gush of garbage water came out of the under sink cabinet. Well, after a lot of cleaning, this morning I removed the drainage pipe from the sinks, and noticed that my air vent pipe was gushing out the garbage water. After searching the internet, it's rare to have a clogged air vent, but at the same time, no one seems to install the dishwasher drainage pipe into the air vent pipe. So my questions are: 1) Should my dishwasher drainage pipe be connected to the upper part of the garbage disposal?  (You can see there's a fitting on the disposal right above the white PVC pipe leading out of the disposal.) 2) Why would they (the original builders) install the dishwasher drain pipe into the air vent pipe? 3) Most importantly, how do I go about in unclogging the air vent pipe?  (It's all bonded together versus having a washers and nuts or a threaded union.) 4) Any answers and questions that I don't know what to ask?  Insights/suggestions? Please and thank you. v/r Bobby

Heat from heating pipe?

Hi there, is it possible to derivate the heat of the heating pipe of an heater to make a water circle (with a pump) to create ones own heater? Because i feel the heating pipe is extremely hot and it's heat for free, so why not using it? The idea is to build something like a water cooling system for the PC but just without the cooling. Can i wrap a cooper pipe around the heating pipe and let water circle with a pump, so the hot water  passes through the "new heater". I dont know what to use as heating object but there will be a way. Any ideas? Is it even possible? Thank you and sorry for my English :D

Replacing a propane stove with a wood stove --HELP NEEDED

I need to remove a propane heating stove and install a woodstove that I already own. I'd like to install the woodstove in the same spot as where the propane stove sat and I'd llke to use the same venting pipe if possible. The problem that I see is that the propane stove uses a 4.5" vent pipe off the back of the stove and it continues to be 4.5" pipe as far up the chimney as I can see (only a foot or two) also, the propane vent pipe is thin, flexible aluminum pipe that goes up the inside of the chimney, while the woodstove connecting pipe is 6". I don't know if the woodstove can be used with 4.5" flex vent pipe from the propane stove or if it needs bigger, steel pipe for wood fires. Does anyone know? Thanks. Peter Norwell, MA

Where to buy PVC Piping in Germany

Hi, I'm trying to source some PVC piping in Germany, the fairly thin type that seems to be used in a lot projects on here. I've tried my local Baumarkt, Obi, and while the have some rather thick grey piping of the type that's used for plumbing, it's not really suitable for what I want, and the range of connectors is not ver comprehensive. Could anyone let me know of a supplier for this stuff that would deliver to Germany? Thanks for reading!

How to seal unused drain pipe?

The short version: I have an old PVC sewer drain pipe that comes up out of a concrete slab floor.  Under the floor, the other end of the pipe connects to other drain pipes in the house, so before I cover the area with more carpeting, I'd like to seal that pipe off permanently to avoid any possible leakage in the future.  I'd like to avoid disturbing the concrete floor, if possible.  I'd like to put some kind of plug in the pipe and glue it into place with common PVC primer and cement, but I don't know if there's any kind of plug made for this purpose. Any suggestions? The details: I've taken down a non-load-bearing wall in my house.  The wall used to carry pipes for water (coming down from the second floor above), natural gas (embedded in the concrete slab floor), and sewer (also embedded in the slab).  These were all used for a poorly-positioned laundry room.  I've easily sealed the copper pipes for the water and natural gas, but I'm left wondering what to do with this two-inch sewer drain pipe. At first, I thought of covering it with a PVC cap, but to do that, I would need to chip away part of the concrete floor far enough down so the cap wouldn't be above the floor surface.  I would also need to be careful not to break the pipe as I chipped away the concrete.  If I were successful with that and then glued a cap on at the right height, then I would need to fill the space around it with a small amount of concrete.  Besides not wanting to damage the pipe, I'm sure I'd make a real mess of the carpet nearby. Then, I thought, rather than gluing a cap over the *outside* of the pipe, maybe there's some kind of cap that I can glue on the *inside* of it istead.  However, I don't know of any such pipe fitting.  It seems that all the home improvement stores around here sell fittings that go on the outside of the pipe.  So I'm looking for creative ways to plug up the end of this pipe. The other end of this pipe connects to other sewer pipes in the house that are currently in use.  I thought of possibly pouring a cement-like substance into the pipe to seal it, but I can't guarantee that it wouldn't go into the rest of the system and cause a disastrous plug for the whole thing. PS:  Excuse the orientation of the photos I've attached to this posting.  They looked fine on my phone, but when I upload them to Instructables, the site insists on rotating them. PPS: I do plan to cut the PVC pipe off even with the floor just before sealing it.  I'll use my trusty Dremel Multi-Max for that.

Making the battery hand gun safer?

Okay, so I guess we can all agree that the battery hand gun is dangerous, so this is my plan to make it safer. I'm not sure if it would work though.Any ideas? I would put the pipe #1(original) into a bigger pipe (#2) and then fill the gap with clay to act as a "shock absorber".In theory, the clay would absorb some of the shock, and IF it did explode, the smaller pipe will fly out of the bigger pipe instead.Therfore, it would reduce the chance of the pipe exploding in your hand. What do you think?

Hacking a pipe heater thermostat

Asking parents for tobacco pipe, help please

Dear Instructables community,      I am 16, closer to 17 and for some reason i find nostalgia in pipe smoking. I have never known any pipe smokers but most people in my family have smoked at one time to another. I am wondering if i should ask my parents if  i can smoke a tobacco pipe or just wait in silence till i am 18 and buy it regardless of their opinion. For all those who are going to try to warn me to the risks of tobacco i know. It is proven that pipe smokers also live 2 years longer on average by the surgeon general. Also it would be legal because i spend my summers in Massachusetts where tobacco can be gifted by parents or guardian. None of my friends smoke pipes, i don't think its very popular in my age group at all i want to do it for me, why i am not sure.                                                                                                                     Thankyou

cleaning peeling black pipe?

Hi everyone, I finally got myself some black pipe for my project at a place where they would cut it for me. (No more EMT.) I have noticed that little bits of the black paint have come off (eg, at the place where I removed the pricing stickers) and that it is greasy all over (most probably from the pipe cutter I used at the store). I don't especially care about the condition of the paint, but want to be able to handle the pipe on a daily basis without getting greasy hands (or accumulating tiny fragments of paint all around my room and then ending up inhaling or eating them over the long term!). I guess that using water and soap on this will make it rust; how would you clean this? Thanks in advance for any advice! James

How do I make a carbon fibre pipe for an air intake?

Hello folks! I'm trying to figure out how I can make a carbon fibre pipe for my cars air intake. I have a semi-flexi alloy pipe which I have managed to bend into shape and it will keep its shape without changing even if I take it out of the engine bay. I was wondering how I would go about making a mould of the pipe to make a replica of it out of carbon fibre for ultra cool points. Plus Carbon fibre helps repel heat better than aluminium. I was originally just going to get a Carbon Fibre vinyl wrap around the pipe but, why fake it?

Steam radiator made of copper pipe?

I have an old house that uses steam heat and has big, single-pipe, cast-iron steam radiators.  I wanted to replace one of them with something modern looking, and one company sells such radiators, but they are very expensive (sold here http://steamradiators.com/) My question is, can I make one of these  out of large (1.5" or so) diameter copper pipes, soldered together in the same fashion?  I've read that steam systems typically operate at 1psi of pressure, which sounds like it's well below the safety limit of copper pipes and solder joints. I think it would look fantastic, but would it work?

How do i thin out the wall of a PVC pipe?

Hi there everyone I am in a process of building a PVC bike trailer out of 40 mm PN 20 type of pipe. At the neck of the trailer where the cross-shaped yellow piece swivels horizontally - permitting the trailer turn left and right - , and just under it, where the lower red elbows swivel vertically - permitting the trailer to move up and down - are the two white pipes that i want to shave 1 or a bit more mm off of. I bought the materials but in a very interesting way the pipes don't fit inside the fittings. They need to be warmed up and then they fit inside one another getting stuck forever. No glue needed.  If i buy  the next largest fitting size - 50 mm - the gap is just too big. So it's a no go. That's why I ask you people: How do i shave off 1-2 mm of the white pipes in the picture so they slide in easily in the fittings? I want to point out that unfortunately I don't have access  to any heavy-duty machinery. So a manual way of doing this would be much appreciated.  P.S. the red dots on the picture are fixed points or dabs of glue if you like. The green dots mark out the movements of the components. For example the yellow cross is glued to the green pipes witch are glued to the red elbows witch in turn are glued to the other green pipes. Here only the yellow cross swivels on the vertical white pipe. :) I hope you got it :)

Potty training seats to fit elongated toilet seat

Super easy and cheap fix to make potty seat fit elongated toilet seats!   Materials needed: 1/2" pvc pipe 7.5" long total length, rubber tape that sticks to itself (fixes leaks in plumbing pipes) and one child's toilet seat with hook slot at rear of seat. Cut 45 degree ends on each end of the pvc - or measure your toilet seat from underneath.  Put rubber tape on ends of pipe, tape pipe to toilet seat using the "hook" hole underneath - rotating pipe so that it "grabs" the toilet seat as shown on photo #2.  You can use a little longer pipe if you want - this just ended up being 7.5 inches for me - but you want to force the seat to be at the very front of the adult toilet seat.... Hope it works for others! Pam

How to make pvc pipe fit over pvc for a bow?[SOLVED]

Dear: Instructables community Hello this is me Noah with another project of mine. Just to let you know I am making a PVC bow and I am having trouble following a step in this video on the internet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ib_hH49p6g Honestly I thought the video seemed like it could work but the second last step isn't working for me. It involves using 1" PVC pipe to slid over 3/4" PVC pipe. What I did was I cut through one side of the PVC and it still wouldn't slide through all the way. Then I began using a rubber mallet with some 3/4" wrench and it still won't work. Honestly guys he never explained how to slide the pipe through and he just said to do it. How do I slide the 12" pipe in the middle of 60" pipe? Thank you. From: Noah UPDATE: PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Dear: Instructables community Just to let you know problem solved. I have no idea how necessary putting the PVC pipe over that but I think the problem is solved. I think I am going to use something else for a grip. Thank you guys for everything!!! From: Noah
