Making a Prop Cryo-Pod

Hello, I am currently trying to decide how to build a large "cryo-pod" prop for a theatrical production. Essentially, it has to be a large tube that I can install some kind of a door/hatch in. It must also be able to fit a person inside it. I have a lot of ideas for making the circuitry and decorations, but I am not sure how to build the chamber itself. The budget is extremely limited. We are talking about 30-40 dollars maximum.  I was thinking of building a tube form and using papier mache, and sanding it smooth on the outside to create the cylinder. This method would take a very long time. Alternately, I was considering obtaining some kind of flexible sheet good and placing it over a frame. Does anyone have an experience in building large cylinders like this? Any recommendations on construction materials or techniques?

eXistenZ Game Pod build.

Ok, one of my idea for a current project is to recreate my own model/version of the game pod out of the David Cronenberg film eXistenZ.If your unfamilar, see the pics and video - Essentially the 'game pod' is a biological virtual reality games console. And i must say i am a fan of the film. Now, i need some help, both with ideas, and with build methods.Ideas- I require an idea as the the use of the device - eg, an external hdd enclosure, a wallet, what ever.- I Have a base that im going to use, in the form of a beach stone. So the size is 125mm x 125mmMethods- Although i have a base 'stone' i need to sculpt a little extra, to make the nodule like bits. and genrally curve the shape a bit, what can i use? would bondo do? and whats the UK equilivent?- I want to have a silicon like finish, like the film, i was planning liquid latex, is that a good idea? what else is there thats better?I would appreciate any help anyone can give.ThanksGmjhowe

Soundproof Sleeping Closure

Hello fellow instructables :) Right I need some help and advice on a design brief to help fix my problem. Problem - I live in a ground floor flat and there is 1 flat above me, 2 scum bags occupy it, a couple of 22 year olds and they have obviously never been taught consideration for others and they bang and thrash around all through the early hours of the morning. When they bang on their bare wooden floor it sounds like a heavy metal dumbbell coming through my ceiling and it wakes me abruptly and its ruining my life :( I've complained to the council the past 18 months but there not interested. They have not put any carpet down in their flat in the last 18 months and it looks like they have no intention of doing so (they can afford fags n booze tho), plus they have a baby due any day now, great.. so now there making their problems, my problem. Solution - The only thing I can think of is making a soundproof sleeping closure, a large box like a 4 poster bed but all sides solid made out of a layer of MDF then insulation then more mdf, but I have some questions before I start. How would I get adequate air in and out ? Would this even stop the banging on my ceiling waking me up ? or would it still penetrate the box ? How would I control the temperature, would it be too hot in there ? Something like the image below but more solid with a door. If anyone has any experience with this or input or any good ideas I'd be ever so grateful. Cheers in advance. Matt

iPod, YouPod, MePod, What Pod?

Being poor, I am pretty much a noob when it comes to the latest and greatest gadgets. So I need to ask a few questions: What is the best (for the price, i.e. the best value) in iPods? If they are pretty much similar in quality, then are there any features I should look for? If they are pretty much similar, is there anything I MUST avoid? PS: The new MAKE arrived (yay !). PPS: If this is in the wrong category, please move it for me, thank you !

i-pod webcam/ camera thing?

I recently got a shit webcam from my friend and took it apart and noticed the color of the wires were awefully similar to the ones on my ipod connector i recently had to rebuild. They both use USB! I spliced them together and while doing so, I thought to myself "self, how could i run it once i'm done? My question is, the rockbox program for ipod puts its programs on ipod nanos to play video, why not use this hole in the ipods security and replace the rockbox files with a webcam program to make the webcam attached connector functional? Thanks, instructa-fan

The Reactable - A collaborative electronic music instrument

I was watching current earlier on and found this pod:The reactable is a collaborative electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on a luminous round table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language. The video won't embed, but it's pretty awesome: Current PodThe project's official website is here. The software is open source, although I can't see many details of the hardware.

One Terabyte Ipod!

I want to take a regular 3.5" hard drive and make a franken- pod of sorts using an ipod. basically, replace an ipod's hard drive with a terabyte hard drive. its a basic concept i know it can be done  here is a link to one that has been done. but im surprised across the whole internet i could only find one or two... http://www.command-tab.com/2005/03/13/ipod-super/ i can get a new Western Digital terabyte hard drive here- this is an ebay link so i dont know if it will work very well... http://cgi.ebay.com/new-Western-Digital-1-terabyte-tb-WD-internal-3-5-hdd-/270666732766?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item3f04fe94de i know this franken-pod will be a bit of a brick, but im fine with that.  i plan on using this in my truck to play through the stereo, and having it portable for long trips/ other cars etc... QUESTIONS- -can it be done? -im sure the power from the ipod internal battery will be insufficient... what can i do about this? -when this franken-pod is wired up correctly, will it just be a matter of plugging it into itunes and formatting the drive? or do i need to use windows to format the drive to FAT32 or whatever the ipod drives are then letting itunes format it again and add the firmware? help me out please!

Thunderbirds are go!

Abu Dhabi has started to build what it says is the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste car-free city.Masdar City will cost $22bn (£11.3bn), take eight years to build and be home to 50,000 people and 1,500 businesses. The city will be mostly powered by solar energy and residents will move in travel pods running on magnetic tracks. Finally, the world imagined by Gerry Anderson is starting to be built - whole cities built as one thing, people travelling on monorail pods, centralised desalination plants, massive hydrogen plants... the chances that they will need International Rescue seem greater with every corner you turn.Still, it could be A Good Thing - if it works, this could be a big stimulus to other nations to start working on carbon neutrality with a vengeance. Certainly the promotional video makes the whole thing sound very tempting ...BBC articleMasdar Initiative homepageDeveloper's promotional video

Making a lightstand from a mono pod?

Hello all,  This is my first time posting on instructables.  I've found and used so many great photogrpahy ideas on here I figured someone might be able to help me out with a little problem I'm trying to solve.   I got 5 of these:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u965992t2606681f30fp45859c0s701&AID;=10440897&PID;=1225267&nm;_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm;_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item;=N82E16830997069 I got all 5 of them for $5 total because of a $30 giftcard I had.  They were on sale for $7 each.   I'm trying to figure a way I can use these as lightstands for my speedlights.  I've had the thought of building an X type base out of wood with a bolt coming up through the base of the monopod but I was thinking of trying to find somethign that would be a bit more portable an X I could fold down somehow but that would still support the monopod.   I'd be grateful for any ideas?

new knex gun coming out acctualy it out now name: morretti SR-4

The gun that can shoot better than Gorkems sniper ,and looks much cooler. here is a linkpic 1 ,2 ,3 ,4,and 5 are all old now. 1st pic is the gun it will be ,sorry it's such a small pic they don't have any bigger ones. ) : 2nd pic is a close up of the scope kinda dark sorry. 3rd pic is it with the new butt/stock ,and for grip.4th pic is tit with a new barrel that still needs work ,and the for grip is a better color.5th pic I added a bi-pod it can fold up it's awesome its not fragile ether!6th pic it now shoots gray rods and can shoot through hardly damp shoe boxes from 15 ft away ,and normal card board at 3 ft. away. and it has a new bi-pod taking inspiration from (knex sniper rifle)s bi-pod it works great now I got my sister to shoot it and she hates knex guns.7th pic It has a newer stronger bi-pod ,and a clip flap. 11th pic just a speciall thing you can add to make it reely beastly it still shoots just as good like that wich is awesome. I now added a flap to close up the mag and changed the front sight. Breaking news I got it to shoot 50ft ,7in. without aiming up I think its the best gun ever.More breaking news I got it to shoot 64 ft. and 5 in. by aiming it up at a 40* angle ,but you won't want to do that it is allot more fun to shoot something 15-20 ft. away without aiming up.It also shot in to an apple and 2 layers of bubble rap not to big of a deal. The mag uses 4 decapitated gray connectors ,or 2 orange connectors because you get two if you use orange connectors. It can use two square plates the size of a yellow rod from corner to corner ,and 2 triangle ones the size of a yellow rod on the biggest side.

Minty boost DC-AC Switch

So I have this idea to put an Ipod into an old CD player case to make the ultimate Ipod Pod. I want to use the Minty boost for battery charging, but I would also like to use a DPDT switch to switch between the DC power of the batteries to AC power of 4.5 volts. I tried to research this and came up with a plan, but I'm not sure if this would work.

LEGO sniper rifle

This LEGO rifle by Jack Streat at MOCpages.com is pretty awesome. If there was ever any ideal way to shoot LEGO bricks, this would be it. Even the creator is impressed: This is by far the best rifle i have ever made. it is a working magazine-fed rifle in bolt action configuration, with detachable magazines, sniper scope and bi-pod. Check out the video to see it in action and the link below for a lot more pics. Lee Enfield Bolt Action Sniper Rifle via Neatorama

The somewhat long awaited knex gun: The L96

This is the L96, basically KILLERK's magnum on steroids. I have not tested range yet, because the trigger system still has a few kinks in it. Below are some pictures, most are my knex gun, but one is of the real steel AI AE, the same as an L96, but shorter and cheaper. Can you guess which one is of the actual AE? Correct! It is the second one!!! Some features of this gun are the cheek rest, and the real scope that you can mount to the gun. It also has a removable bi-pod. The gun weighs exactly 60oz (3 and 3/4 lb, if you are not a math wiz) without the scope, but with the bi-pod. Another feature is that all of the moving parts are in the front (except for the trigger, but that is on the outside so it doesn't matter), so you can design different bodies, if you don't have enough pieces. Also, the body doesn't have to be solid, it can be hollow to reduce weight or piece count. I got the picture of the Accuracy International AE from here, and the picture of the M24 from here (yes, it is in Ð оссия).UPDATE- I added some things to the message bodyIT HAS BEEN POSTED IT HAS BEEN POSTED IT HAS BEEN POSTED IT HAS ohh, that's probably enough now.

Building materials for kayak?

HI there I was wondring if anyone has ever considered/ tried building a solid bottom kayak out of recycled plastic (maybe a bin)? I loved the ease of carrying and price of my inflatable kayak but hate how easy it is to puncture in running water. I'd like to make something thats light to carry to the water and can stand being bashed around a bit. I was thinking of cutting some pannels out of any plastic I can get my paws on, stitch and gluing them together to form a sort of pea pod shape and then lining the edge with some of that foam stuff they make floats out of. Any thoughts?

Knex video camera holder (TNKIT entry)

This is a knex video camera holder I threw together in like 5 minutes.  The original one failed and also used too many parts. This camera can be either used with a quad pod, or be mounted on most 5 layer thick knex guns with addons.  The camera is easy to put in and take out, but when its in, you can't make it fall out.  Surprisingly, it's very sturdy, and can be used as an FPS view in a knex war and an alternate scope. I was gonna add yellow  rods into the midsection like I did with the sides, but I ran out of red connectors, so I couldn't.  Just pretend they are there.

should i bother to make a m107 sniper rife

First I need to say: I am no knexpert, new to the site (noob) but I want to prove I am not one of those people who just comment. I am thinking of making a M107 sniper the minimum it will have... -shoot red or yellow rods -fire 60+ feet (thats going to be tricky) -have a removable clip -look something like the real thing -internal ram or just out the way -a folding bi-pod -true trigger I know it sounds almost inpossable but i am going to use the best of some guns and try to put it together. It will probly fail but it will be worth the try. Any questions or suggestions?

Please check your presentation before publishing it

Whilst it is unlikely that anyone can achieve perfect spelling and grammar, you are showing off your ingenuity for all the world to see, so you surely want to show how good you are? Also make sure your images are clear enough to illustrate whatever the point is.  I've just read two articles this morning, the first about "Metal-dipping" seed pods has crystal-clear images, but the other from American Pistol Crossbow Association offered under-exposed pictures in black-and-brown, captioned like this  "... thwe safty catch is behind the rear sight."  Their spelling, not mine. Come on Folks, let's all aim for a standard of presentation to be proud to show the grandchildren. Geoff

Power Strip USB Charger Combo

I'm currently building a bedside table, which will include a charging station for 2 laptops, 2 DS lites, 2 Iphones/pods, a palm phone, and rechargeable batteries. This means that there will be a need for at least 5 usb ports, and 4 mains outlets. I was wondering what peoples ideas were for generating these sources of power.  I know I could use a power strip and a usb hub with a wall adapter, but I was wondering what other more sleek ideas people had.  I have everything necessary to build my own systems, including a 5v power source; but I posted in the hope someone might have some really sleek and elegant solution for me. Winning prize goes to the person with the sub $10 solution!

New Gun: Prototype XM-177 Compact , should I post?

This is a gun prototype, meaning it is not quite done yet, that fires yellow rods. It is named after the CAR-15/XM-177 assault rifle from Colt, however it IS NOT full-auto, meaning you have to cock it each time to fire. You can cock it by pulling the "bolt" back as seen in pictures 3 and 4, 3 bieng in the cocking position and 4 being in the cocked position. Picture 1 is of the chamber with one shot in it, and picture 2 is of the butt of the gun. Picture 5 and 6 are of the sights, 5 is the first sight and 6 are the rear sights. So tell me, should I post it? UPDATE: 4/28/07 I added two more pics. Picture 7 is a view through the sights, picture 8 is of a bi-pod I designed specificaly for this gun.

Datura

My datura has been flowering for about a month now, and it seems all the insects in the world have figured it out. It gets swarmed by moths, bees, flies, etc. every night now, so I ran out with my camera and caught some pics of the bees going crazah! The flowers bloom only at night and fade the following morning.  The fragrance is very strong and lovely, but the plant is DANGEROUS!  Native American people used the plant ritualistically to induce hallucinations, but consuming the plant can kill you.  Some people will develop contact dermatitis just from touching the soft, velvety leaves.  Despite its showy blooms and large leaves, the plant is drought tolerant and can take a lot of heat and sun.  It will self-sow readily, and I'm expecting a lot of seeds just gauging from how many blooms (and seed pods) I've had.  My plants are HUGE, and I never would have expected them to get so big so fast from little 4" pots.

Gaming is Changing

I used to like console gaming because systems rarely/never costed more than $300, it was simple, and everybody had the same stuff. There were no expensive HDTVs, broadband-requiring/expensive online play, the fanciest peripheral was the rumble pack, and your console didn't do anything except light up a power light if there was no game in it.I'm not rich, my parents have never owned a house, and with all the fancy crap that consoles require and do today, I can't afford even a Wii (not that I'd want one, the novelty has worn off). I'm not saying all these improvements in gaming are bad, but for someone like me, I just don't have the money for a shiny new 360, or even high-speed internet (I live on an acerage and there's no cable in the country) for online muiltiplayer/communication.For now, I'll just have to fondly remember having home tournaments playing Star Wars Episode 1 Pod-Racer on N64 with my friends. What do YOU think about gaming today?

Battery Powered Vinyl Turntable Help

I recently purchased a Bush MTT1 vinyl turntable which I am trying to make portable so I can play records through a set of I-pod speakers on the move. I thought this was a good one to ‘mod’ as it has a built in preamp (one less thing to carry!). First of all I have swapped/removed the red/white output sockets and replaced them with a 3.5mm headphone jack so the speakers can easily be attached – this works great! The part I am stuck with is the turntable needs to be plugged in to the wall…and I want it to be battery powered. I have opened up the turntable and inside the wire from the wall goes straight into a transformer, then the transformer is wired to the turntable circuit with two blue wires. The transformer reads – 05/45 on the side, if that’s any use. All I need to know is what voltage is being supplied to the turntable by the transformer so I can remove it and put batteries in its place, how can I do this?, can it be done? Also wear the transformer connects to the circuit it says 'AC IN'. Can i just connect batteries? Please see attached photos for anymore information, thanks!

Working SRv3 and Directional Mine Prototype

I haven't had the time to work on the SRv3 in a while so here is what I am thinking of doing. Let me know what you think. I want to release an ible on what I have built up to this point. Which by the way is a working shooting gun that shoots exactly how I want it to I just need the body, front, grip, stock, and bi pod to be designed and built. If you build what I present your SRv3 will shoot 500ft. What do you think? I want to make this gun a collaboration of design ideas so we can all build the gun as a community. Let me know if this sounds fun to you all. If so I'll post pics this weekend! 08/11/2013 Pics of both my working SRv3 and Directional Mine Prototype coming soon! Just a few fun stats of the two. The SRv3 has been recorded to shoot over 500ft and is extremely accurate. The Directional Mine launches 25+ K'nex green rods over 50ft in a nice spread pattern that can be activated by both trip wire and pull cord. Both are shooting great and are extremely fun to use! I hope to get a video and ible/forum up soon showing how to build both and how they preform! 08/14/2013 Go check out the Directional Mine Prototype on my ible NOW!

Sci-Fi Gardening

I read an article on Dave's Garden a year ago on plants with Star Trek names, and I just adore the idea of having a science fiction themed garden.  Looking through some more plants, I've come across even more plants that would fit within a sci-fi/outer space theme. Coleus: Darth Vader Saturn Saturn's Rings Solar Flare Solar Shadow Solar Sunrise Vulcan Daylily: Alien Alien Contact Alien Encounter Alien Escape Pod Alien Invader Alien Landing Alien Skin Alien's Eye Android Android Dreams Andromeda Asteroid Astral Voyager Beam Me Up Beam Me Up, Scotty Ben Kirk Big Dipper Black Hole Borg Technology Cloaking Device First Officer's Log Galaxy Quest Klatuu Barata Nictu Life on Bajor Notify Ground Crew Photon Torpedo Romulan Deflector Spock's Ears Vulcan Logic Hosta:   Captain Kirk Enterprise Foxfire X Philes (just for fun) Galaxy Galaxy Light Gamma Ray Kiwi Milky Way Little Dipper Lunar Eclipse Lunar Orbit Lunar Sea Outer Space Saturn Starship Striker Super Nova Venus Voyager Vulcan These lists are not complete.  I looked through 5,320 daylily names out of 38,449 on Dave's Garden and then filled in with some names from the article, and I'm sure there are more genuses with sci-fi plants.  The reason why there are so many hostas, daylilies, and coleuses is because they're relatively easy to hybridize and propagate.  I started looking through African violets, but half-way through I was pretty sure I wouldn't find any.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were some more in the Liliaceae family such as with tulips, but phew, that's a lot of plants. Looking through some of the names, it would be relatively easy to do a Lord of the Rings or fantasy-themed garden.  I even found hostas called "Dot Com" and "Website".  Hybridizers certainly get creative when it comes to names.  I think I'll send my brother-in-law a hosta called "Twisted Sister". The image is of a basket plant I have.  No neat name, but it looks kinda sci-fi in the picture.

Nerdman's Ships: Round 2

Hello! It's been awhile since I was here (was working on other things), but I've finally gotten around to making screenshots and renders, along with a bunch of new sketches (3D). I apologize for the amount Short List: (In order) - Assault Destroyer - Barracuda Class Frigate - Knife's Edge (now with new features) - Barracuda Class Frigate - Sky Razor (Sister ship of the above) - Falcon Class Heavy Cruiser - Hieroglyph Class Multi-role Fighter - Manta Class Bomber - Dolphin Class Artillery Frigate ::WIP:: - Mark XII - Light Torpeto Link to better images- http://s1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb441/nerdman234/ Minor side note: Thank you ibles for having an multi-uploader.  This is much easier than the other site I post on. :D - Nerdman  ------------------------------------------------ Expanded List:: ------------------------------------------------ - Assault Destroyer - Armed With 7 Medium Rail Guns - Designed for both direct assault and defense of large vessels against smaller ships (Frigates, bombers, etc.) - Barracuda Class Frigate - Knife's Edge (now with new features) - Designed for both exo-atmosphere and in-atmosphere operations - Armed with 4 light torpedo tubes, 3 triple AA turrets, and 2 solid mounted railguns in the nose - Barracuda Class Frigate - Sky Razor (Sister ship of the above) - Designed more as a heavy fighter than a support frigate, this can both keep up with standard fighters but even out maneuver them due to it's massive engines - Armed with 2 triple AA turrets, 6 light torpedo tubes, 2 solid mounted and 2 partially mobile railguns in the nose - Falcon Class Heavy Cruiser - Designed as fast attack ship, the falcon can reach incredible speeds while still being able to turn very sharply - The falcon is primarily armed with 512 packs of multi purpose launcher tubes, it can hold up to almost a thousand missiles or nearly 6,200 un-guided rockets. - Hieroglyph Class Multi-role Fighter - Carries two multipurpose modules (similar to the Heron) which hold quite literally anything that fits inside the power, weight, and computing restrictions. - Designed using spare Heron frames which were useless due to constant space combat. - Armed with a triple AA turret (rear), all other weapons/ offensive abilities come from the pods. - Manta Class Bomber - The Manta Class Bomber, created about the same time as the Hieroglyph, was made from XUAP hulls which were useless in space and were unused because of it. - Armed with 6 light torpedo (single use tubes), 3 triple AA turrets, and a minor ECM package, this bomber can hold it's own against even heavy fighters. - Dolphin Class Artillery Frigate ::WIP:: - The Dolphin Class of frigate was created when the fail "General Frigate" was unable to meet expectations. - Armed with 2 heavy plasma cannons capable of shots up to 400km away. - The Dolphin is also nimble enough to avoid long range missiles, but is unable to enter atmosphere and is unable to avoid fighters. - Mark XII - Light Torpeto - The Mark XII was created strictly for bombers, but soon showed extreme success in both heavier fighters, and light frigates. Being powerful for it's size, it was also reasonably light and nearly as maneuverable as some missiles.
