Poly, PETG, Acrylic? How to tell?

Hi all! First, this is my first post to the forums. Hi. :) I have a friend with a laser cutter, and he said that he can only cut Acrylic or PETG. No Polly. First, why is that? And second, I already have some plastic, so how can I tell what kind it is? I bought it a long time ago... I'd rather not buy more plastic if I can help it, but I will if necessary. Thanks! ~Mark

Bad for the speaker?

I stole some poly fill/insulation shit out of a old pair of speakers that are waiting for some new drivers and I stuffed it in my subwoofer box. It doesn't sound like it's going to explode as much as it did before (it's a rather "rickety" box). But I did some googleing and it can overpower a speaker or something? I won't hurt my sub will I? -Punk

how to poly a guitar amp a light color?

I would like to keep my home-made guitar amp a light color. and i am having problems finding the right polyeurathane for it.  it is a very whitish wood, and it does not have any knots, and i like the white color of it. and when i put just plain poly on a scrap of wood, it turned a disgusting yellow. i dont really want that! haha so i wonder if there is a way to keep that beautiful white color on the amp, but still have poly on it. because if i dont poly the amp, it is going to get destroyed by water, dust, and it will, of course, get beat up by random things (little sisters....haha jk). sooo, i just wondered. THX!!

Regarding brush cleaners spasifically Poly Clens

Recently me and my dad have run across a problem. http://www.100randomtasks.com/_/rsrc/1307405086575/squeaky-clean-boards/Poly%20Clens%20Can.jpg?height=200&width;=200 Apparently our government has banned the use of Poly Clens By Lepage brand here in Ontario Canada as far as I know. Its a favorite brush cleaner for the both of us and we're both surprised when we heard the news not to mention disappointed.  We both don't understand why its banned since there are far worse brush cleaning methods that are way more harmful to the environment. So are there any other alternatives that some one could recommend that are similar? And please don't recommend varsol est since these just don't compare and are just nasty. Thanks. :)

How do I clean the Poly Carbonate Holes? Answered

We have our car shed roof made from double walled polycarbonate sheets, the problem is that the fabricator at the time of fixing it to the frame forgot to put tape on the holes to avoid dirt getting in. and that time I didn't knew about it, but recently I read this and the dirt has seeped in the holes which are about 7mm square in area. I googled it with various queries but to no avail, Now please help me by giving me some direction and steps to clean it. The dirt is fine sand and some mud which seeped in with rain.  I do not want to cut replace or open the sheets just clean them. it has seeped in upto 1.5 feet (roughly half a meter). See the following images, the dirt is just dark areas the rest is just on surface.

Closed system-conductive heating of pool with solar

Hi clever folks, We've been reading the Instructables for making solar hot water systems to heat a swimming pool (4000 litres) in our very shaded backyard (in Australia). We like the idea of using a coil of black poly pipe or garden hose laid out in the sun to heat up and then pumping this through the pool during the day, but the thought of bacteria building up in the pipe has struck fear in us! Sooooo....we may need another plan. I've read way too much on Legionalla and now think it would be safer to have a closed system. What we had in mind is a network of thin poly pipe either in 2D or 3D that would float (or be weighted slightly to sit in a good portion of the water "column"in the pool) and connect this to a long length of black polypipe that would receive solar heating. Obviously this would be a heating system that takes place when no one is using the pool (i.e. when the kids are at school). We'd keep a pool blanket on to insulate it too. When someone wants to use the pool, which would typically be in the evening for us, we'd remove this so-called radiator. Hopefully it would not be too heavy as the thin poly pipe network will be filled with water. Hmmm...so tempting to try it this weekend. We just would love to hear from folks that have knowledge to share on these topics. Thank you, Elise

Charge unprotected lipoly with desktop power supply? Answered

I have a few, almost dead 700ma li-polies taken from a macbook battery that would not charge. I have no formal Li-Poly charger, and most commercial charger will refuse to charge these batteries anyway- because most of them are lower than 2.7v right now. I wanted to see if I could revive these, which I have read can be done, using constant voltage and current.  My problem is how to charge these using a common desktop power supply. My setup right now is a charger set on 3.7v, multimeter in parallel (to measure the cell voltage), and a current of 20ma. So far, nothing dramatic has happened thus far. Thing is, the "shorted" light on my power supply is on, and the voltage says its around 2.8v right now (rising slowly). Is this just due to the battery charging? I mean, is this behavior normal for an unprotected cell charging on a power supply?  Also, please note that I do know what lipolys can do. I am not just gonna hook this thing up to 20v and leave to go to town. I am monitoring it, and have it in a large, thick plastic box that is 2ft from a door. I will not leave it on unsupervised.

What is the maximum PSI a polyethylene 'tote' water tank can hold? ?

I am building an irrigation system, and I have an Plastic 100 gallon translucent poly tank that is square with skds on the bottom and top.  It was previously used for holding and transferring used vegetable oil.  For my irrigation system to work properly I need to find out if it will safely hold 70 PSI of air pressure.  It looks like it would, I THINK it would.  There is a molding seem in the middle all the way around which I thought I could wrap a tow strap around for added strength.  I know they are not designed as pressure tanks, but surely someone out there knows what the breaking point of one would be? this link shows what it looks like;  http://www.gototanks.com/300-Gallon-All-Poly-Tote.aspx Thank you very much for any help I can find. IMPORTANCE OF FORESTRY AND GARDENING FOR AFRICAN SCHOOL CHILDREN

In The Gambia all schools can participate in a tree nursery competition.  As the children are learning how to grow saplings for reforestation or for having fruit trees in the village, this is a very important activity in their education.  A class in Sambel Kunda village was introduced to the way a tree nursery can be set up, using seeds of the nearby baobab trees, planting them in cans, cups or poly pots.  This is one of the different aid projects contributing to the sustainable development of their village.

Lacquer or Varnish to finish a guitar?

Hi, I've just had an artist do some work on one of my acoustic guitars. Its done straight onto the sanded bare wood using sharpie, all I have to do is give it a finish to stop the design getting damaged and to give it a glossy shine. A lot of people recommend Lacquer but what type should I use? Nitrocellulose? Poly? Others say Varnish but I've heard it can become tarnished from sweat and heat. This coat needs to stay on indefinitely as I cant sand it down again to apply a new coat without removing the art. Please help!
