Hi all, I'd like to use silver in a project, and I'd like to know what the best method of making it quickly - I'm not interested in paying $30 to ship it to Australia. Would I get any success by filing a sheet of silver, or is there a better way of doing it? Or can I buy it somewhere locally? Here's an example of what I'm looking for, I'd like the texture to be fairly course, not the fine powdered stuff I've seen elsewhere. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/15g-0-529oz-99-99-9999-Pure-Ag-Silver-Crystals-metal-powder-varying-multi-size-/151361490810?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item233dd90f7a Cheers!

I make omelettes fairly often. If the egg yolks are a little on the pale side, I'll add a bit of turmeric - a bright yellow finely powdered spice. Not enough to taste, but enough to add a bit of colour. I've noticed that if I add the turmeric before I beat the eggs (so it drops on the egg-white), the powder will clump together and stay as blobs. If I beat the eggs first (with the yolk mixed in) it will spread over the surface and be much easier to combine. If I use paprika, it will clump whether it's added before or after I've beaten the eggs. I'm guessing this something to do with electric charge on the surface of the particles, but can someone enlighten me further.

I went to home hardware today and asked the clerk in the paint department if they sold aluminum powder, and they said no, it has been banned in Canada. I am assuming its because of the use of aluminum for flash powder =PI was wondering if anybody knows some sort of store to get aluminum powder in Canada, becasue i dont want to have to order it over the internet. (i have had some mishaps with internet ordered things before)Any help/suggestions are appreciated, Thanks ! =)

Ok, i need aluminum bronzing powder, no not for thermite, there are more fun things to do with it, but along the same lines. The only problem is at all my local crafts stores, hardware stores and paint stores, no one sells it. I thought about using an etch-e-sketch but big ones are hard to find, kinda expensive if i wanna buy 5+ and also, half the powder is not fine at all. Grinding up aluminum foil isn't gonna work for me becasue i can't find a ball mill under $100 (not even a crap one), and i sure as sh-- ain't gonna sit there filing it off a bar. Parents aren't going to let me buy it off the internet (i wouldn't any way the prices are outrageous and they limit how much u can buy a year), electrolysis maybe? But what would i use? A battery charger? Or are their secret code names that they sell it under at hardware/paint stores? HELP

I recently bought 50g of guarana seed powder so use as a flavoring agent and caffeine source for my own energy drink. As i sadly discovered, Energy drinks such as red bull , rockstar and V dont actually use guarana, they use a synthetic substitute which tastes just like the seeds when prepared carefully to avoid being spoiled, aka, guarana flavoring. Then they add a small amount of guarana extract for the guranaine , a slow releasing form of caffeine which makes it last longer than caffeine alone. Anyway, i have my guarana seed which was improperly produced resulting in it becoming extremely bitter and completely losing its normal guarana flavour. What is the best way to consume the amounts i need to get a decent boost in the start of the day, i really do need it for work, i have a new job as a labourer, laying turf, and in a day ill lay several tonnes of grass, which takes up allot of energy, especially in 80-100 humidity at roughly 30-33 celcius. whats the best way to take my guarana seed powder, its fully dry and super fine, but also extremely bitter and foul tasting, like a half teaspoon of pure caffeine inside a mouthfull of cinnamon powder . Any ideas on how to mask the taste? Thanks

I need to figure out what to use for a certain application. It needs to have small particles, say the size of large glitter flakes, sand, styrofoam balls, or those tiny glass beads without holes that people glue onto ornaments. I'd prefer if it could pile up a bit like damp sand... not too high, 1/2 inch max is all I need. I need it to not rot or deteriorate in a closed container for an extended period of time, and I need it to not attract a charge over time and cling to the sides of the container (like glitter and styrofoam balls do). I need to be able to push it around easily if, for example, I dragged my finger through a pan of it. I need it to be white or clear.

I have soft enamel and I am looking for a natural tooth powder that, at the very least, won't further damage my enamel. Most tooth powder recipes I've seen use sea salt as an abrasive. I've also heard from dentists that salt is too abrasive and will scratch your teeth microscopically. Is this true? Could I grind the salt finely before using or would that defeat the whole purpose?
I have done some research and found some methods though they are more industrial such as atomization. I am curious if there is a method that could reasonably be done at home with fairly easy to find/acquire materials. Thanks in advance

I'm wanting to make a heatpipe which works against gravity and so am looking for commonly available materials to use as a wick. Like a sugarcube on a spoon soaking up coffee. Except that since I'll probably be using water as my working fluid, the wick will need to be insoluble in water, as well as heat proof to a couple hundred degrees. A few things I've thought of to try are flour, talcum powder, chalk dust and sand. Thoughts?

Hello everyone, I am working on a film project and I need to make small explosions of colored pigments and/or powder. Below is a link to a few sample photos of the affect that I am trying to achieve. http://photogrvphy.com/pedro-aguilar-bang/ I have tried many different techniques from impact to compressed air. But I am not getting the shapes that I am looking for. I am thinking that the best technique might be some sort of controlled explosion. This could be something detonated within a pile of the powder or potentially (and more complicated) and fully concealed shell that includes the powder. I will primarily be shooting straight down above the powder so it really only needs to explode up and out. And again, these are relatively small blasts. I would estimate the powder blasts in the images from the link are only approximately 2' in width at the most. And help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for something to make a crushable rock. I've seen in movies & series where a strong man would crush a rock, billiard ball or even a bolling ball. It was suggested "Flower Foam". Is their another name for this crush to powder like foam or, is there another type of stuff to make this crush to powder effect?

hello, i have discovered my ball mill with its large (2cm) grinding media, cant mill 100% of my aluminium powder, however it does mill roughly 50% after 8 hours, so i want to know where i can find a super thin aluminium mesh flake separator which i can periodically sift out my powder, from the powder /flake mixture. the powder size i am looking to sift, is sufficient for use in thermite and flash powder, essentially just standard super fine aluminium powder that stains whatever it touches silvery. i have seen one before for sale on diversehobbies before, but now its gone, and i cant find one anywhere else. does anyone here know where i can find one online?

Hello, currently performing operation "shoe candle" , for yowee. this operation is basically videoing the destruction of various fruit using flash powder or hmtd in a small 1-2ml glass vial. now, i have chosen my prefered explosive to be flash powder because after seeing the damage hmtd does when detonated in this way, i became frightful for my own safety, considering it lifted 1kg of dirt 30cm into the air and destabilizing it and making it fell as if it were dug up and loosly fille din again. ANYWAY i have come across a slight problem because i cant readily make aluminim powder enough to experiment with flash powder concuctions, and also i have about 4kg of finely powderd potassium nitrate lying around, wheras permanganate costs $10 for 25g at the pharmacy i would like to ask you instructables members, would flash powder made with potassium nitrate combust better than flash powder made with potassium permanganate the current mix i am using is 3 parts permanganate / 2 parts aluminium powder/ 1 part sulfur apparently this is the recipe for the old M-80's firecrackers i want to know if a equal or more powerful mix can be used by using potassium nitrate whoever answers will receive a best answer from me

I did some experimenting with charcoal and saltpetre. While making a charcoal fire i threw in some saltpetre, usually saltpeter alone burns slowly with a molten residue left over, but when i added it to the fire it created a slow burning but intense and bright light that almost melted the steel basin the fire was in. So I did some investigating, firstly I took some 3mm charcaol chips and lit one, then I threw some saltpetre on, again a intense, bright flame appeared, while observing i found that the saltpetre creates a molten pool in which the charcoal 'dissolves', I tried this with sugar, to simulate a smoke mix, but nothing close happened. So it turns out that saltpetre burns sugar when mixed with it, but actually chemically 'reacts' with charcoal. I have a question to add to this, is there any other item in the world that reacts this vigourisly with saltpetre? And if you have some charcoal and saltptre to spare can you pls try this, its really amazing.

After getting hit by a car while riding at night (even though I had lights) I am considering powder-coating the frame of my bike with a glow in the dark additive. I was wondering if anyone had attempted this before, and if you had thoughts on it. Also, can you powder-coat spokes? I know powder-coating the rims is bad because it interferes with the brake pads functioning, but I'd really like my bike to be as visible as possible.

I've seen instructions all over the internet (both here and other places) for nearly every type of candy except pressed powder candy. I've been experimenting myself with it, but the process is rather tedious, and I'd really like the help of someone who's done it before. I'm basically trying to come up with a good way to make caffeinated candy, and I think that pressed powder is the best way to go. so far, I'm making tablets using sorbitol, sucralose, caffeine and kool-aid, and I'm pressing the tablets using a cheap press (actually intended for "herbs") in a vice. however, my tablets are still flaky, and they dissolve almost immediately in the mouth; I think I need more pressure, and I think I'll only get that through a real machine. however, nobody seems to be making a cheap human-powered press that I'm aware of. If anybody's done this before, or attempted it, I'm just trying to get some advice on the best ways to go about this experiment.

I've been looking at instructables for the past few months but only recently joined.something that really interested was an instructable about creating fire from a drop of water https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Start-Fire-with-Water/ and i thought that that was so cool. But, some of the comments suggested that one of the substances used, NH4, or Ammonium Nitrate, was now illegal. Is there possibly a better way of having that same type of powder that when it comes in contact with water, it will light on fire? If so, please tell me or give me a link to something else that will tell me how to do so (I don't even know if that actually was ammonium nitrate, but that is what the creator said.).

A few of these items were found by 3 different volunteers during a beach cleanup in New Jersey, after Hurricane Sandy rolled through, destroying huge sand dunes and leaving debris everywhere. They are clear yellowish glass tubes or ampules (ampoules) filled with a white powder. I searched all over the internet for a match to these with no luck, but I did find an article on a large storm that hit NJ in 1962, in which a woman reported, “We had sea grass everywhere, and there were glass ampules everywhere that contained a white powder. Our father told my sister and me not to touch them.” Also found on the cleanup were old glass bottles all over the place from the 1920's-1950's so I'd imagine these could possibly be just as old. Maybe they came from the sea, maybe unearthed from being under the sand for sometime? Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks for looking!

I bought this plant a couple of weeks ago in the houseplant section of my local garden centre. It came with a label that I soon found to be completely wrong (It's certainly not a cactus) and now I have no idea how to look after it. At first it grew very quickly and then slowed down dramatically, so I fear that it isn’t getting the right care. It has long, smooth, chunky leaves (Though I’m not sure you would call them leaves) and a pale green stem. At first most of the plant was covered with a kind of hydrophobic white powder that has since worn off. If someone could provide the name of this plant that would be perfect, thanks a lot!

To all those into pyrotechnics I am glad to meet you through this site because I am obsessed with fireworks.
