Looking to buy rope pulleys

Hi everyone. I need to buy nylon rope pulley wheels. I've never had this much trouble finding something on the internet. I need two different sizes. Both need to be 3/4" wide with 1/4" hole with one being 1 1/2" diameter and the other 3/4".  I'd like them to have bushing if possible. Also, they'll be used with 3/8 nylon rope. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve

How can I rig a cabled pulley system for a homemade weight machine?

That gives both variable resistance through range of motion (lighter at start, full weight at end) AND force multiplying where e.g. 20 lbs becomes 80 lbs (added weight effect with less plates).

Mousetrap car Pulley help.

Hi! ive been working on a mousetrap car for my physics class and i was looking into the idea of pulleys to get more power to pull on the axle to rotate it. Ive noticed that alot of the Pulleys I see all rotate on an axle which I can not acheive due to the small space on the car. So my thought would be to anchor these small wooden pucks (small like 1 cm diameter) and have notches in them so that the fishing line wouldnt slip. (picture) Can I get some help on wether or not this would work? If it works can I get some input on how i could make it better? ex. different pulley designs that dont require moving parts. Thanks in advance!

need help with levers and pulley thingy

I need help. yet again... im making a piggybank that has wings on hinges(when pigs fly...) there is a lever that when a coin is inserted the lever is pushed down the lever is hinged on one end and the other end is the end that goes down. the end that goes down has a string. the two wings have a string on each running from the wing to a rod that rises from beside the coin insert on each side. i had one string run from wing A trough a eyelette on rod A through a eyelette on rod B then onto wing B. i then had the string from the lever go over the length of string between the two rods and then back to the lever. that only lifted the wings ~1 CM the wings need to be lifted ~6 CM but the downward pull is only ~1 CM and is not variable. i have several ideas floating around but i would appreciate your help.

WHAT'S A BETTER WAY TO MOVE SUCH A HEAVY ITEM UPSTAIRS?

Isn't moving a ~300 lb refrigerator up flights of such stairs very DANGEROUS? .. I know of catastrophic resulting injuries.. I'm thinking of a few design improvements; and wonder if others are too.. Besides the obvious (pictured) need to add good ratchet straps, and a larger dolly, my designs range from better muscular force use, to mechanization....  Also,  can anyone please inform here about gripping, one-way, or ratcheting pulleys?.. Thanks good thinkers.

Does anyone have a hoist system to raise my garden tractor cab off the tractor and store on the ceiling of my garage?

I am looking for some help in designing a simple pulley system to lift my Garden Tractor Cab off my John Deere Riding Tractor and store it in my garage. It's a hard roof on my all-weather cab and weighs about 150 pounds max. I would be attaching it to the roof of my garage (both cab doors come off). I want to be able to back the tractor into the garage..and have this system allow me to lift it off, raise to the ceiling and store it until next winter. I have a bad arm so it's tough for me to manage it without this. thanks!

How do I make a pulley system to lift a model train display table, while keeping the table horizontal? Answered

My son wants to be able to permanently keep his model train layout fully made up, but we have no space in the house.  I was thinking of making a model display table for in the garage but need a way to easily lift it into the roof space for storing.  The table would need to be kept horizontal while lifted otherwise the trains would fall off the tracks.  I hope the table to be approx. 10' x 6' and presumably lifted from a minimum of 8 points (4 corners + 2 on each long side)

Removing the pulley on a Dunlap 103-0602 lathe?

I've got an old Dunlap 103-0602 wood lathe (http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=9331 - not my post but that's what I have), but the measurements for the pulley seem very strange and irregular.  Anybody know of a 4-step pulley with 2-3/4", 2-1/4", 1-3/8", and 15/16" steps? It's 2.5" wide total on a 5/8" arbor, which are easy to find on McMaster Carr and the like, but those measurements aren't evenly spaced or findable anywhere I've looked online so far. So, first question is does anybody know where I can find a pulley like that?  And if not, anybody know a way to easily get the pulley off the arbor? It's pretty old and gunked up - some WD-40 loosened up the bearing like butter, but no such luck on the pulley itself, squirting through the set-screw holes.  I've got a motor and everything, I'd love to make this usable, but need some advice.  Got any?

Making it more powerful?

Hi,  I have brought a sphero 2.0 which for those who don't know it a robotic ball about the size of a baseball. I decided to try and make a car for it out of knex although I will only be able to make it go backwards and forwards. I built a frame thing with a small wheel in the middle of it and sphero sits on top. The axle that the wheel is on has a gear which then connects to the drive wheel axles on the back using another gear. This works fine when in the air but when on the ground it's too heavy for sphero to power it. I've tried putting bigger gears on the front and vice versa, i've also tried using a pulley but it just isn't budging at all.  Say if I was using the standard knex motors how would I go about making it produce more power?

Floating table held by strings with pulley system for up / down?

My room is rather full so i had the idea to build a table that can be lifted up to the ceiling when not needed to save space and act as a cool feature.  My room has a slanted roof and the section that's not slanted ( in the middle) is 43 inches wide and 100 inches tall. length isn't a problem(more than 100")this spot would be an optimal place to build the "levitable". I have access to pulleys and string and all that stuff so i can build it no problem, but I'm not a master with ropes or pulleys or mechanics and I don't know the best way to make this work. Thanks a lot!!

Pulley set for a 150rpm motor (small rc car project)?

Hey, I'm building a a car for a small competition in  my university (really small, like 3 teams) The motor they are providing for the car is a small dc motor, 6v, 1.7A and 150 RPM (there's no info about the torque). We have access to a 3D printer and wanted to print 2 pulleys to decrease the speed and gain strength (so the car can move), but I have no idea on what pulley size to use, what rpm should we aim? I know that without torque there's not much to say without testing, but any of you have at least a reference? thanks!

Can i use all-thread as an axle for pulleys and gears? Answered

I recently used all thread to make an axle for two casters and wheels so that i could adjust how loose or tight the sides of the caster rubbed on the wheels. i made the casters and my dad attached them to the pre-made base that he had made earlier, looking back i probably should have helped out and made an instructable along the way... anyways the method that i used to put the wheels onto the axle made me wonder if i could easily use the same method to put a pulley or a gear onto all thread. the idea is that i would simply put a nut, then a lock nut, then a washer, then the pulley, then a washer, then a lock nut, then a nut and i would tighten the holy bejeezer's out of it until it was firm and steady, the friction of the washer would transfer power through the lock nut to the all thread. would this work? even as a proof of concept? i want to avoid ordering anything off the internet so if anyone knows where to get actual pulley and gear axles here in upstate new york that would be beyond great! also as a side note, i'm thinking about using a hole drilled into a flat piece of steel or even some uber hard wood that's been sitting around collecting dust and sawdust to use as support for the axle, it'd act as a kind of bushing/bearing type deal. the idea is that i would keep it working by simply putting two nuts together on either side of the hole on the all thread and tighten them together until they locked.

Hanging a pulley from the ceiling using electrical Strut for the purpose of overhead lifting.?

Hello out there, I am currently working on organizing my garage. Part of my organization project is to find a way to utilize the most available space possible. I am looking at hanging some items like a wheel barrow and a tow behind de-thatcher on the wall. My ceiling is 10ft high and I want to hang them as high up on the wall as possible. To help get the items up and down every time I need them, I plan on hanging block and tackles from the ceiling for each item. Unfortunenaly one of the items does not line up under a joist. To overcome this my plan is to hang a 20” pieces of shallow electrical strut (lagged in on each end to a joist) and then use a strut nut, 3/8 threaded eye bolt, and a strut washer(see picture for set up). Do you think that will hold? At MOST I would never lift anything heavier than 80lbs(and that would be a rarity). The average weight would be around 40lbs. For the items that do line up under a joist I was going to use a screw eye (I can’t access the top to through bolt it). The screw eyes I bought at the local hardware store have an SWL of 160lbs but say “not for overhead lifting”. Again using 80lbs as my max load, should I be worried about the “not for overhead lifting” label?

Hand powered boat propellor? Answered

I am trying to build a boat for a physics project, and i wanted to try building one that used a propellor instead of the usual paddlewheel or oars that other students have used.  I bought a 2-blade trolling propellor from Walmart, and i plan on attaching it to a crankshaft via a 4:1 belt drive ratio (so with every rotation of the crankshaft, the propellor spins 4 times). Two people will be turning the crankshaft , and the boat itself is stocky with a flat bottom and pointed end. Is this even possible, and will it actually get the boat to move at a reasonable speed? ("Reasonable" meaning rowboat-ish speed)  I included a quick sketch of what im talking about, and a picture of the blueprints to the civil war submarine that I got the idea from, just for proof of concept.

I need custom-fit blinds for about 18 windows and to pay retail for that many of them, especially since I'd like to have higher quality than your basic white PVC blinds, it's going to be well into the thousands. So I'm wondering if somebody can explain how to make your own venetian blinds. self excited self powered generator?

I have a portable generator (tiger diesel generator's alternator of 220v 750 watt rated power output) connected to a 1 hp ac induction motor using a pulley-belt system. The rpm of both the alternator of the portable generator and the ac induction motor is 2800 rpm so the size of the pulleys that i used are almost the same. Initially when i bought the generator i tested the output with a digital multi-meter and it checked right.(working powered by the diesel combustion engine). But i have coupled it with the ac induction motor i can only draw out 12 v ac at around 1 amp. I tested this from the same out put plug of the original generator. so I'm wandering what went wrong. Any one have an insight to this I would be grateful for your comments!
