the duality of RAM

I feel like installing more RAM on my computer, for gaming and 3-d stuff. But I can't decide if I want 1024 mbs on a single stick, or two sticks with 512 mbs each.            Also, it would be nice two have 2 gbs instead of 1, but I've heard horror stories about instability. please discuss this as well.            Money isn't an issue (well, maybe.) I just want what will work best.       And please don't be afraid to go geek on me. thanks as always.

Reusing RAM memory?

Hi everybody. I'm looking on the web if there is a way to reuse my old Ram memory. And I don't find anything.... As you know, each time we change for a new computer, we have to change the Ram to match the CPU and motherboard. And I'm stuck with a lot of useless Ram, life warranted for most :) So is it possible, to reuse the chips or add usb plug or something to use it as a external usb key? I'm understand, it could be not easy but ... I 'm curious. :) Thank you.

Copmuter Ram for Windows

Ok. me and a friend are building several computers and i want to know what is better when adding ram. since one of the mobos im focusing on now has 4 slots and a maximum of 4GB DDR2 Dual channel, what would be better: having 2x sticks each 2GB worth or having 4x sticks 1GB worth cause im not sure if it will amke the PC faster if i had 4 ram cards in so it distributes the data. anyone have an idea if its better with 2x 2GB or 4x 1GB cards?

Computer from dump */Update/*

I recently found this beauty in the town dump. It just sat there begging my name so i took it home. After i got it home i popped it open and looked at it and realized a DVD-RW drive was missing as was an 80 gig hdd and all the RAM. i am no expert and am wondering if this is worthy of buying the Ram (if so where and what price what type?) or if i should scrap it for the components or sell the video card and such on ebay? Your opinions on the possibility of it working and anything else are greatly appreciated. The images below should help with judgment. */Update/* I just tried starting it up. No louck i triead a moniter with digital input and one with analogue input both came up blank. then i tried both without the drive connected (earlier the drive just spun continuesly) and still no luck the onlly things that showed it was alive is when the keyboard flashed its lights for a second when the computer was starting up (the Num lock, caps lock, and scroll lock), the fact that when connected the drive spun furiously and that the power light on the front turned on. I'm at the point of considering whether to scrap it and sell the components and use the various bnits and pieces for expierments and the likes or to continue to try to coax it to life.

Installing Ubuntu on a computer with 160mb of RAM

Hey guys I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a old computer to use as a temperature (the one that chr made) but since it has only got 160mb of RAM it freezes on the first screen for installation Anyother ways to install Ubuntu without it freezing?

RAM error cause / fix

I've started getting system service exceptions, and have linked the cause to the RAM, which has shown around 10 errors when tested, mainly that certain pairs do not store data accurately, on at least one of the sticks. I need to ascertain the cause of these errors to see if the warranty covers it. Would it be possible to get or write a program to keep writing to the defective locations, to prevent important applications using the space?

External RAM

I was thinking today about possible ways to make my pc better without adding internals. (I like external plug and play stuff). So anyway, I was thinking about my RAM and how to make it better. Then it hit me. What if I had external RAM? Possibly using 2 or more USB ports. Any Ideas? This would allow me to run large programs on any PC! Please collaborate.

Windows XP Running with as little as 18MB or RAM

I managed to run Windows XP (stable) with as little as 18MB of RAM, Originally for my PSP to run. With Dosbox i can Allocate up to 16 MB of RAM, with a little tweaking i could get it to reach 18MB.But XP Can't run in DOSbox, But it Can Run in Bochs, It may be slow but hey, If i can Run Windows XP on my psp, It is still an accomplishment. Here are some screenshots of it Running is QEMU, On a PCSo what do you think, I am planning to port QEMU to the PSP so we can finally make this a reality, BOCHS only works in 1.50 Firmware, and i don't see a psp Slim with 1.50 and my PSP is a Slim and ...well you know.Well ThanksBe sure to comment(and rate, Just because it is neat seeing topics with a rating...) And tell me what you think!~ReCreateEdit: Now i uploaded a video!(or i am uploading a video...i have to remake it due to the stupid 10MB limit)

How much RAM is on a stick?

I bought a $20 computer from the Salvation Army, and it is in working condition. However, I dont have a spare mouse, monitor, keyboard, or power cord for it. So I did like a normal nerd, and harvested it. I got all the internals(It was running a Pentium II on windows 98, so it's pretty old) including the RAM. It had 3 sticks-1 SIMM and 2 DIMMs. On the SIMM, it clealy said that it had 64MB. However, on the other two, it says nothing about size from what I can see. There is a label, if it means something, that says: MT16LSDT464AG-662C1      9807D      308210                      5000227 On the first label, and: MT16LSDT464AG-662C1 9808D 30821C                     5000227 On the second. I would really like to know how much is on these sticks, so I know if I should use them for myself, sell them, or just trash them. Thank you!

Should I post?

This is a new gun I made after finding about Ipod Killer's "innovative" trigger system. It uses Mepain's ram and part of the Burito Master's clip for his scar gun. The clip pushes up the ammo by itself, so all ya gotta do is pull the ram then trigger. It also uses a spring to absorb the shock of the ram.

trigger in front of hopper?

How bad would a trigger be if it was in front of the mag, for example an uzi, the ram rod will be pushing the ammo but both ammo and ram gets held back by the trigger so no time to accelerate.

NEED MAC COMPUTER WITH AT LEAST 4GB RAM AND 2.8 GHZ

I need a mac computer iwth at least 4 gb ram and 2.8 ghz. It has to be able to support cocoa development so it can't be a really old one. I don't care if it's an imac, mac book pro, mac book, just so long as it works and meets requirements. Will pay up to $800 for one. Maybe $900 if exceeds all expectations. Imac is preffered though.

New Pull-back Mechanism

I invented this new pull-back mechanism a few days ago. It uses a sort of lever to pull the ram rod back. You pull the lever, and the ram rod goes back. It gives you a great mechanical advantage when pulling back. Any thoughts, questions, comments or haikus?

finished!!

I finished it but i need to get some pics. and its still the prototype wich im going to post in a forum not yet an instructable it works like this: the trigger pulls apuller back wich turns like killerks sr-v1 then the puller goes to far back in order to release the ram.(the puller pulls the ram back)

I built a Super (ly fast) Computer, we named it HAL.

I am glad to announce, we have built a super computer. I'm serious, 8gb DDR2 ram, AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core,500gb SATA hard drive, Dual ATI Radeon 4670 DDR3 512mb Graphics cards, Asus M3N78-VM AM2+ Motherboard. It's so fast, if i was chatting on yahoo, i can see what you are typing before you type it. If ANYONE takes this picture, i will know because the chances of someone with this same set up is pretty slim. Or at least give me credit and let me know.http://www.computersonics.com/Pictures, Well, now!

Help with an overclock

Hello Instructables community!I have a laptop and it has been driving me crazy recently!Specifically the graphics card has been driving me crazy, its an integrated mobile Intel(R) 965 express chipset family chip running at 470mhz with 256mb of graphics ram ("stolen" from the normal ram and controlled by the OS) I was wondering if anybody knows of a program that is capable of overclocking it, I have tried rivatuner and power strip with no luck, rivatuner didn't even recognize the card and power strip wouldn't let me change the clocks.I want to make sure that I can change the clocks before I upgrade the ram.BTW: the specs on the computer are as follows:Compaq Prescario c700t CTOIntel Celeron @ 1.7ghz1 GB of shared system and graphics ram (soon to be upgraded)80GB SATA toshiba hard driveWindows Vista Home Basic sp2

Power Mac G4 Freezing

Again my Power Mac G4 is acting up again.  This time it freezes usually after about an hour and a half of use.  When monitoring activity monitor, the process called SustemUIServer turns red, and the computer freezes, also the CPU's shut down completely.  If I an watching a video the sound will repeat in a little clip over and over again like a broken record.  I have downgraded the computer from 2Gb of RAM to 1.5 as one of my sticks of RAM was bad, so obviously it is not a RAM problem. Yes I have ran various RAM testing programs such as MemTest86, and that had no issues.  Also with YouTube videos the video will freeze and the mouse wont move.  I will post specs of the mac soon so you know exactly what we are working with. And for anyone wondering, it's running Mac OS 10.5.8, Leopard

new vs. old

I found that i use older and slower computers more than i do my desktop modded to be fast, it's the fastest computer in my house! still for some reason i keep using an overheating, amd 366 laptop to play dos games and a pentium 4 laptop with 256mb of ram, instead of my desktop with a celeron D 3.23ghz (overclocked of course, how else?) and 1gb of ram. why? lol.

Need Ideas!!!

I'm trying to make the true Semi-Auto gun. Not one that after you fire, you pull the ram back. But one that when you pull the trigger, It fires everytime.

Posted by KamikazeSniper360 11 years ago

New (plausible) semi auto knex gun idea.

Ok, i came up with a TRUE semi auto idea for K'NEX guns. It works like this. The trigger is up at the very front of the barrel. The ram has a bunch of bullets in front of it. Every time you pull the trigger the ram moves forward, and a bullets pops out. Also, if you hold the trigger, everything will fly out at once, creating full auto!         Please give me credit AND a link if you use this.

semi autos

I have an idea knex semi auto system for a gun i havent tried it but hey it might just work if you put a springy spring on the ram with about 7 elastic bands and when you fire the force from the elastic bands will reload the gun because the spring springs the ram back (you will need a auto load system) if you have any more ideas post tem and let me know ill try he gun idea of mine and ill see if it works

How to make the best gun in the universe even better.

Sorry for the extremely braggy title, I just needed something to grab attention, because these mods are MANDATORY. I have made some mods to the bolt, ram and barrel that are required for my AR-4 v3 Picture 1- Ram mod.  Add these spacers in there.  This keeps the ram from breaking the bolt when you fire. Picture 2- Bolt mod.  I change the number of 1- slot connectors that hold the bolt from 2 to 3.  I also mod the ram so that the part that goes before the bolt is 1 orange connector, and 2 blue caps. Picture 3- 2 barrel mods.  There is a third mod, but I will go ahead and explain this first.  The top of the barrel is changed a little bit.  Note it.   The second barrel mod was actually made by makers of my AR-4 v3.  It required  me to remove the white connector from the front of the barrel.  This somehow increases the power to a staggering 45 feet with 1 rubberband, around 70 with 3 (doubled up), making this the most powerful bolt action gun ever posted. Picture 4- Bullet lock mod.  Sorry for the crappy picture, but it has too much shadow.  Anyways, where the new ram sticks out, you place the ball joint socket.  This also increases the power, and gives you the ability to point it down. With all the mods I made, you can load and fire the gun sideways.

Shotgun design (constructive criticism welcome!)

Alright, this is my new shotgun design.  I have been working on it since I decided to get back into K'nex, however, right now I don't have the pieces to build it, so it will remain a concept for now.  It includes a horizontal magazine that I have designed, a pump, and TD's ram.  The ammo will feed into a mechanism similar to that on the zkar, pushing it upward so that it rests on a pusher which is located right below the barrel.  This pusher is externally connected to the rod in the front and is held in the forward position by a rubber band.  When the pump is pulled back, the ram is cocked, and the loading ram is moves back as well, placing the ammo right below the barrel.  When the pump is pushed forward, it pushes the loading ram forward, loading the ammo into the barrel.   Though this model is not proportionate, I think it accurately gets the idea across, and I was hoping you could give me feedback as to what could be wrong with the design, or you can just feel free to tell me how much you love it.  Eventually I plan on adding a stock that houses a bullpup sling mech, using the guide on the ram to act as a pusher for the rear BTS of the sling gun.   I am pretty sure I can pull this off, but I need the pieces first, so feel free to test this concept out and let me know what you think.  Thanks. -Kinetic  * note in the key it says that the green circles are protruding rods, this is a mistake and the blue circles are actually the protruding rods

Tracking down the speed problems on a laptop.

I've copied the conversation here so we could remove the information from the original instructable's comments.  I figure this would also be of some interest to other forum viewers who may have similar problems, or may be able to chip in. The long and short of it is, 92033 (Ed) has a refurbished laptop that takes literal hours to run a YouTube video on.  I suspect that it's due to a bottleneck with his internet connection.  Here's the conversation thus far: ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033 (Ed): Thank you kindly for your prompt reply...appreciate it very much. I came across this site by accident in searching for something else and now I'm 'hooked' on it. :) So far I've read over 400 archived posts (whew)...as well as looking at the videos. The videos are somewhat of a problem because this new laptop only has 512 mg memory...LOOOOOng time to load. For example...to watch a SLOW 5-minute You Tube video takes 5-1/2 HOURS to load...keeps showing a couple words at a time...need to get two new memory chips to upgrade to 2gb. Thanks again...Take care. ---------------------------------------------------------------- eddems: I think you're basic download speed is killing ya, not the laptop. check you're speed at Internetfrog.com, if you see the link near the bottom for the old test, run it, I like it's graph of upload and download speed much better. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033: Thanks much. I'll check it out. I ordered a 1gb SDRAM Memory chip which just arrived yesterday. Hope this speeds things up a bit. ---------------------------------------------------------------- harley_rly: i hear u man, my computer is hopped up, but i live out in the sticks and have dialup...i only get 24kbps at most :( ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033: Maybe there's hope for 'us' yet. :-) I phoned Tiger Direct to see cost of an upgrading memory chip to go from 512mg to 1-1/2gb. The guy I talked to suggested I get "PC TUNEUP 2.0" which bypasses the Windows Operating System (I'm using Windows XP Pro) and speeds up the system. I gave it a try and ordered the CD (cost $39.98 - $44.77 postpaid). It hasn't arrived yet but will let you know if it helps as he claims it will. He said that if I just ordered a 1gb memory chip my system wouldn't notice much improvement as it is, but this CD should do the trick. THEN...when I DO order the Memory chip(s) to get total of 2gb my system should zip through like a rocket with the CD just ordered. I'll let you know when I get the CD and about the results. Just hope I haven't thrown forty-five bucks to the wind. Thanks for the contact...appreciate hearing from you. TAKE CARE. ~ ED ---------------------------------------------------------------- Javin007: PC Tune-Up "bypasses the Windows Operating System?" This guy fed you a load of crap. (I work on computers for a living.) PC Tune-Up does nothing more than clean up registries, defragment harddrives (if your OS even needs it, some don't) and keeps drivers up to date (which you could do manually.) That guy's an idiot, or just a liar. Could be both. Unless you were buying PC Tuneup 2.0 from Tiger Direct, in which case we can add "sleazy salesman" to that. What are the specs of the laptop? Go to Start/Run and type in DXDIAG. This will give you a quick snapshot of the specs. Specifically, I'm curious as to the processor speed/type. For a 5 1/2 hour "load" you're more likely looking at network slowdown issues (although 512 megs for XP is WAYYYY too little. I HATE when they put PCs together like that). The RAM upgrade will show significant speed increases, but no improvement with YouTube videos or other downloads. I'm glad to see you are returning the CD. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033: Thanks much for your input...appreciate it very much. I checked the DXDIAG as you recommended. Here's the info on it: IBM ThinPad Laptop PC. Model # 23738TU. Intel Premium M 1.70GHZ. 512mb SDRAM Memory chip.Page File- 351mb used,513 mb available. Direct Version-Directx 9.00 (4.09.0000.0904). 512 mb SDRAM-Actual 212 Ram. AVAST Anti-Virus. MS Windows XP-PRO.. Dialup Speed-40kbps. PC2700 SDRAM 512mb Memory Chip installed. I ordered 1bb memory chip which arrived yesterday. Now I have to figure out HOW to remove the bottom of this laptop to install it...lotta small screws on it. :-) Oh, total memory shows 32mb. I don't know if this means much to you. I note your comment that the added RAM memory WONT (?) speed up loading YouTube videos? Is that correct? If so, why not? Thanks again. Take care. ~ ED ---------------------------------------------------------------- Javin007: :) At the risk of boring too many people, here's how memory in a PC works: You have two kinds of memory: RAM, and Hard Drive (technically there's three, as there's also onboard video RAM on video cards, but this is primarily used for 3D video game textures, so can be mostly ignored.) Your harddrive's read/write speed is determined by the type of harddrive it is (most are SATA now) and the rotation speed (most are 7200 RPM, though the specs for your system say yours is only 5400 RPM, but there are 10, 15, and even 20K rpm models out there that are exponentially more expensive.) No matter what, harddrive memory will always be degrees slower than RAM. RAM on the other hand is a small chunk of memory that is "temporary" memory, but very fast. Its speed is determined by the type of RAM (DDR2 being the current common one for notebooks, though DDR3 is available with some motherboards (you can ignore this, though, as you can only handle 2 gigs max of DDR with your system). The motherboard will determine the limits for the RAM that can be installed.) When running *ANYTHING* on your computer, and I mean ANYTHING, it must first be loaded into RAM to be accessed by the CPU. The computer doesn't directly access the harddrive. So this means when your operating system is loaded (Windows XP) the entirety of all running processes for the OS have to be loaded into RAM. Now, Microsoft claims that Windows XP only requires a minimum of 64 megs of RAM, but recommends 128 megs. I challenge you to find me a Windows XP system that only uses 128 megs out of the box. It's not atypical for an XP system to chew through all 512 megs of your RAM, leaving no RAM available for other applications. (Interestingly, the default setup for your laptop is only 256 megs of RAM, yet yours is reporting 512.) What happens when there's no RAM left? The system has to then start trading things into what is called "Virtual Memory." VM is nothing more than a file on the harddrive that will temporarily hold information that SHOULD be in RAM, so the RAM can load more info. For instance, say you have a process that's using RAM, but you want to watch your YouTube video. As the video is ready to play, the system will take the other process's data that's in RAM, write it to the harddrive, load your video into RAM in its place, play a portion of it, write the video to the harddrive, load the data for the process to RAM, let it run for a split second (so it doesn't lock up), write it back to the harddrive, load your video into RAM and play a short clip, etc. etc. etc. The result of low RAM on your system is that applications will open slowly (seconds or minutes, instead of instantly or a few seconds) and they will seem slow to respond, will stutter, etc. With enough RAM, your system can freely open as much as it needs into RAM, and ignore the virtual memory and all the slowdowns that it causes. Now, all of this being said, NO lack of RAM will cause a streaming video to take 5 1/2 hours to play. This is 100% going to be related to your downspeed. (Go to www.speedtest.net and post your results.) RAM slowdowns tend to be most noticeable when shutting down, or starting up your computer, apps will open a little more slowly, they will be slower to respond to button clicks, and video will be very choppy. Anything that is causing a YouTube video to take HOURS will be due to the system simply waiting to get the video in the first place. RAM wouldn't slow down the receiving of the video, but it would cause the video to play weird once it's downloaded. So, all this being said, here's the summary: Your system has a 1.7 Ghz processor, and your RAM is most likely 333 Mhz DDR. If you bump your memory up to a gig, you should see a pretty significant improvement in that your computer will, overall, just "feel" faster. It'll be more responsive, and working with large documents will be many, many times faster. This won't, however, affect your YouTube experience (unless you were getting jittery video often, not the same as "buffering" video.) If you see "buffering" for a long time, your internet connection is your bottleneck. A test on www.SpeedTest.net will likely confirm this. However, if you get decent numbers on SpeedTest, then we could have something more sinister going on, though I suspect you'll find your numbers well below the 1 mbps rate. This brings us to actually changing the RAM. I've been out of the PC hardware realm (professional programmer now) for a few years, and was unable to find a manual for your particular model. However, if memory serves, this image should be a fairly accurate representation of the underside of your system: http://www.javin-inc.com/temp/thinkpad.JPG Don't quote me, but I BELIEVE the red circle will indicate the only screw you will need to remove to access the RAM. There should also be a small clip holding the RAM in place that you'll want to pinch to get the RAM out, and make sure that the new RAM snaps into place. (Sometimes you'll have additional empty RAM beds, and you can just put your RAM in there and end up with 1.5 gigs, but I suspect you'll have two 256 gig chips in there.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033: Phew. Thanks again for your most indepth educational lesson. I appreciate all your help more than you realize. I attempted to answer this last night, typing in more than twice the amount of text as your to me, then suddenly realized there was a glitch and I was on another page...lost it all into the ionisphere. :-( Rather than try to retype all I wrote, I shut 'r down and went to sleep. Now I'm trying to recall all I wrote last night but failed to get mailed. I'm not a traditional typist, rather a one-finger bloke so you can understand the frustration there. I do, however, type at a reasonably good speed. With that said, let's continue. I went to search for Configuration of this IBM Laptop ThinkPad 23738TU and am copy and pasting it here. Meanwhile, thanks again...take care. ~ ED ******************************************************************************* TRY #3...I'm Back :-) Your diagram showing where the RAM chip is located was right on. Thanks. Here's my DISCOVERY :-( The RAM chip installed was NOT a 512mg...but only a 256mg chip. The ads ans specs say it's a 512mg...NOT SO. I was lied to by either the manufacturer or refurbishing company who removed the original 512 chip and reinstalled a 256 chip. I was lied to by the Tiger Direct guy on the phone. There are NOT two chip slots...only one. So I now have a useless removed 256mb RAM chip. Replaced with the 1gb RAM chip I just installed. So instead of having 1-1/2 gb RAM, I only have 1gb. Here's the crux. To. go to 2gb RAM I'd need to buy a full 2gb RAM CHIP and discard the 1gb for which I just paid $39.99 ($45.00 with s/h). This means another output of almost a hundred dollars plus the $45.00 just wasted because they wont accept return once the sealed chip plastic was opened...even though I had no idea there was only ONE SLOT in this PC instead of TWO like the Tiger Guy said. Now...crux #2...this new 1gb RAM does nothing more to increase speed. I just watched a 2.01 MINUTE YouTube video which took a HALF HOUR to load, so I threw the money away for nothing, eh? There is no noticeable change except the 'speed' shows it now as 41.2 kbps instead of 40 kbps. Okay...now HOW do I get to speed this thing up to normal viewing in real time? I also saw an ad for 4bg RAM Gateway laptop with 120gb hard drive for $404.99 which is all suped-up with everything. I had to upgrade a LOT since I got this only four months ago...taking over a hundred hours to load it, like Internet Explorer 5 to 6 and then to 8 and now to 9. I'm using AVAST Anti-Virus, after trying for 23 hours to get ADVAR, then find out it didn't load because of problem on the servor's end. Added Firefox and upgraded twice. Loaded MS Protection but it created more problems so I deleted it...now with AVAST which I like. Soooo...I've literally spent over 200 hours to get this thng where it's at now, plus the wasted money for the upgraded RAM chip.and I still don't have increased speed. HOW do I get it? IF the processor has to be changed does this mean I have to gut the thing and install a new motherboard? If so, what kind of money cost are we talking here? I bought this four months ago as a refurbished unit only because I was able to get it on payments of only $25.00 a month. If I had to wait to get $400.00 cash I'd never have it. :-) Okay...that's it for the moment. Thanks much again for your help offering and detailed instructions...appreciate it more than you realize. Best Wishes And God's Blessings To You And Yours In Everything Always. Most Respectfully... ~ ED  ---------------------------------------------------------------- Javin007: Well, let's start with the RAM. If you're running windows XP, you can assume all the extra processes (virus scanners, and whatnot) will be eating up about 512 megs of the RAM. First thing to do is check DXDIAG again (start/run) and verify that it's now reporting the correct amount of RAM. (Don't be surprised if it's like 9 hundred something megs or slightly more. It won't report 1024 or 1 gig.) This being said, that will leave you with the other 512 for your applications. This box won't be running the latest and greatest 3D games, but I suspect it was never intended to. If the heaviest hitter you'll have running is along the lines of photoshop, the 1 gig of RAM you have now should be plenty sufficient. I wouldn't worry about getting 2 gigs. Not for this rig, anyway. Also, Avast is a great (and free) virus protection, every bit as good as Symantec's Norton, so good choice there. If your youtube videos are choking out, we need to start by verifying that it's an actual speed throttling problem. Go to www.SpeedTest.net and run the speed test. Come back with the results.

Knex Mp7

-Edit, pictures taken from Samsung steller, quality isn't to great- Hello! Its been a very long time since Ive posted anything on Instructables. But here is one of longer projects, my MP7. It look me three weeks to finish building. It feeds perfectly and has removable clips. It is around the same length, size and weight. It uses a brand new modified ram rod. It feels amazing in your hands and its very sturdy. I have added a strange looking stock instead of the rod stock for strength. There is no point in having a retractable stock because it has a very long ram pull. It also has basic sights up on top seen on MW3. It also has the folding fore handle. More Specs: Shoots 60-70FT (Using two bands and modified ram) Holds 20 Grey connectors in mag. Removable magazine. Very long ram pull. Non retractable solid stock. Very comfortable handle mold. Solid 6th layer body frame. MW3 low profile sights. True trigger. Folding fore handle. Fast reload time. Upper rails. Easy to reload magazine. Trigger guard.

Knex gun questions...

I have a few questions 1. What is true trigger? what does it do? 2. Is a gun that fires bullets through a ram a RBG? 3. Would a gun powered by a ram get the bullets out of a extra long barrel? 4. what's the difference between slide action and bolt action? 5. How would you make a cock? 6. What's a bipod? 7. How would you build a fixed mag? If I have any more questions, I'll edit the topic and bump the topic

DM-15 bolt action sniper

Well, all the great K'nex gunners have snipers(besides oodalumps , but his semi-auto makes up for that :-) ), so I thought i would make one. its nothing really new, nothing innovative. Just that it has a bolt to pull back the ram, that allows for rapid fire. It's could be as powerful as the other snipers but i can't put to much power because i have to pull the ram back with one hand(i am wimpy so you guys will have more power). it has a 9 round mag that could be extended if you wanted. Has a block trigger hooked up to a true trigger. The front is just a make barrel. Bipod folds up and hooks onto the front of the fake barrel. i am sorry that the bolt is hard to see in the gun, it on the right side. only the left side is shown in the first two pics. its in the third pic but is kind of hard to see. it works by having a "door" in the side of the barrel for the bold to travel in and out of. the bolt need tape because the orange connectors would come off instead of pulling back the ram(the ram is the same from the pack sniper). it has just your basic scope on it, nothing to new on that part. yea, i think thats it. instructions are being made.

KNEX TANK with a mg with no chain.

My tankit has a mg. and uses no chain peaces. the only exotic peace it uses is a orange gear. like a yellow gear it has the pegs sicking out of it but only has half the pegs. it can be made by cutting off half the pegs if you want. not very power full but that is because i am using a clasic motor. the motor has to pull bach the ram so to much rubberbands and the motor can not pull bach the ram. if made with a beter motor it could be stronger.o and the last picture is of all my knex guns :)

realistic firing mechanisms.

Has anyone developed a detachable magazine with internal follower mated to a weapon which isolates the cocking and chambering of a round? i.e. the weapon is automatically chambered when the ram rod is cocked.

Is there any free software to tell me the temperature of my laptop?

So my brother sold me his old broken laptop for $7 in quarters! (What a steal right?) So I scrapped the speakers, 2 sticks of RAM, USB ports, a cooling fan, LCD screen, a hard drive, and a diode. So I took the fan and wired it to a USB cable to have a cooling fan under my laptop since it usually runs pretty hot, and now it's nice and cool. Is there a widget or free software to tell me the temperature? Thanks. PS: What else should I do with all these parts? I already installed a RAM chip in my computer.

Use for LCD from dead laptop

My buddy's kid spilled orange soda into his laptop. By the time I heard about the disaster he'd removed the RAM and HDD from the machine. I would like to do something with the leftovers but am short on ideas. Any thoughts?

Knex TAR 21

Hey, nothing new here besides the TAR that everybody has seen before. As you remember it looks very good and smooth. It is a truly bull pup design that makes it very realistic. It shot white rods in its 15 round magazine. More info: 1. Working Bull pup design. 2. Folding front sight. 3. Shoots 40 feet. 4. Ammunition is an orange con. 5. True trigger. 6. Ram rod powered. 7. Very comfortable cheek rest & design. 8. Solid seventh layer coating. 9. Removable magazine. 10. Holds up to 15 rounds. 11. Measures 30 INCHES! (Real TAR- 21 is 29). 12. Looks very well. 13. Ram rod is a red rod.

Image notes are duplicate

Lately I am seeing a new flaw in images notes: they are duplicate. Often the problem is not relevant, but sometimes it avoid I see some images, as you can see in the attached image. I use Firefox 13.0.1 under Windows 7 Home Basic, at a Lenovo laptop, 2 Gb RAM.

knex idea

I had a idea i don't know how it would work but what happens is you cock the gun and every time you press the trigger the ram goes up a little bit and fires so you fire like this cock, pull trigger, pull trigger, pull trigger, pull trigger etc

"Shanti" bow

My newest project, the "Shanti" bow, or the D-TAB v1 (dual-turret assault bow)  Brings out a whole new era of shotbows.  The D-TAB v1 uses a turret for optimum performance.  What is unique about this bow, however, is that it uses two turrets, firing them simultaneously.  It also uses the very first compound bow system that I have seen in knex.  This gives it an extra thrust of power while the firing pin is accelerating to the turrets.  This is truly my greatest creation yet (but I had to take apart my prized hell slayer :( p.s. build that gun!), and will continue to get better.  Unlike zak and his "sexbow", I will be posting this.  Here are a few pics and a video should be up shortly.  Let me know what ya think. Video: www.youtube.com/watch Pros. -Turrets for performance and quick reload -Great range (havent measured yet but I'm guessing around 50ft with the bands used-you can add much more) -Compound bow system -Textured foregrip -Perfect war gun -SK's easy to use ram and guide Cons. -Inaccurate at range Credit:   Credit goes to s0lekill3r for ram, ram guide and frame Credit also goes to knexfreek for the trigger (though I probably be using a different one because I can't find a way to put a safety on his)
