I am in a long-distance relationship, and our six month anniversary is coming up. Does anyone have any gift suggestions? I am getting her a webcam, because she doesn't have one and we will be able to see each other. Also, I just recently sent her a bracelet (a souvenir from my vacation). So any other ideas that are preferably not jewelry and hopefully quite inexpensive are welcome.

Adam chronicles the relationship between a normal woman and a man with Asperger's Syndrome...Those with Asperger's, ...look at the world in ways that are fundamentally different...The easiest way to tell this story would be to resort to stereotypes and short-cuts and, to his credit, Mayer largely avoids these. A review Another review Update: The way I learned about this was through an interview on PBS radio in my area. UPDATE #2: I have seen the movie, and I find a lot of it very accurate....but if you are looking for a nice neat "happily ever after" ending, it might not be for you.....it is realistic, and life doesn't always deal us "happily ever after". Just saying....

Does anybody know the relationship of borax and boric acid? Are they different forms of the same thing? Are they related at all? What if any do these have in relationships to flux to silver smithing. (I think the flux is Boric Acid but I am not sure.) I have a box of Borax, that I use to make liquid laundry soap. - I also used it to make crystal snow flakes - beautiful. Just curous.

Here is another Joseph Ducreux translation! This one is a parody of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble." You can find the original lyrics here. If you haven't already seen it, check out my Joseph Ducreux version of "Call Me Maybe." I Recognized You As Problematic At a distant point in history, A trio of oversights previous, I was framed within the boundaries of your crosshairs. You orchestrated a situation in which, save yourself, I was isolated from others. You discovered my location. You discovered my location. You discovered my location. I suppose our relationship lacked meaningfulness to you, And I suppose this attracted me, And when it happened that I became lovestruck, You removed yourself from our current arrangement, Abandoning me, Abandoning me, Abandoning me. And he has long since disappeared, Even when we were first acquainted. And I have come to the conclusion that I bear the blame for this. For I recognized you as problematic upon your ambulation into the chamber. Thus, may disgrace be bestowed upon me at this time. Our relationship transported me to territories previously undiscovered, Until you discarded me. I recognized you as problematic upon your ambulation into the chamber. Thus, may disgrace be bestowed upon me at this time. Our relationship transported me to territories previously undiscovered, Now I am reclining uncomfortably upon the frigid, overly firm earth. True, True, Discord, discord, discord. True, True, Discord, discord, discord. No amends will be made. He will never witness your weeping. Delude yourself by imagining That he is unaware that he is the catalyst For your subaqueous asphyxiation. Your subaqueous asphyxiation. Your subaqueous asphyxiation. And I discovered that you have abandoned our relationship entirely. I have acquired this knowledge from rumors murmured about the thoroughfare, A new tally upon your breeches strap Is the whole of what I will ever amount to from your point of view. And it is at last obvious to me. And it is at last obvious to me. And it is at last obvious to me. And he had long since disappeared, Even when when we were first acquainted. And I have come to the conclusion that I am the victim of the prank. I recognized you as problematic upon your ambulation into the chamber. Thus, may disgrace be bestowed upon me at this time. At the time when your most melancholy trepidation Insidiously invades your mind That you never felt true affection towards myself, her, or anything. Quite. I recognized you as problematic upon your ambulation into the chamber. Thus, may disgrace be bestowed upon me at this time. I recognized you as problematic upon your ambulation into the chamber. Discord, discord, discord. I recognized you as problematic upon your ambulation into the chamber. Discord, discord, discord!

Can someone help me out with some ballpark calculation of propulsion power needed to move a boat? I do have some specific questions: 1. Propeller vs. Jet: Which one will deliver more propulsion given the same amount of power. 2. If it is typical electrical trolling motor type propeller, is there some simple formula to represent relationship of boat speed, power needed (hp), propeller rotation speed, and diameter of the propeller? 3. If it is a jet: Is there a simple formula to represent relationship of boat speed, power needed (hp), boat speed, and GPF of water to move the boat. I know that I am missing a few variables here like boat's weight and its water displacement. I am trying to keep it simple. Any thoughts and input will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Over the past few years I've had a love/hate relationship with free software. Trying to find it, getting viruses from it, realising that it stinks. I wanted this forum to be a place where people can post their great software finds for PC, MAC or LINUX. No matter how strange or obscure, post it and where you got it.

My purple and black with white contrast-stitching custom Converse shoes showed up yesterday. Check them out as I try out my new treadmill desk (Instructable forthcoming...). Converse is an advertiser on Instructables, but I thought the custom shoes were cool enough (and actually the creative on their ads, too) that I bought a pair irrespective of any business relationship.

This information assumes you know the basics of intonation, I will post information on that as well just in case. (Seperate post) In the following illustration the lines depict the front edge of the individual bridge pieces on most modern guitars. When looking down on them their relationship to each other, this only gives you a start point to adjusting the intonation.

I came up with an interesting moral dilemma (I think that's the right term for it) yesterday. I want to see what people think of it and what their response would be. It goes something like this: Imagine that you are in a relationship (if you are already, you can use your current partner as an example). Things are going well, you're both happy, etc.. One day, the two of you come across a mysterious pair of rings in a local market. You ask the vendor about them and he tells you that they are magic rings. If you each put them on the other person's finger, you will become bound to each other and will not be able to remove the rings unless one of you dies. Should that happen, the surviving person if confronted with a decision: they can either continue to wear the ring, until they die, and be guaranteed to be bound to the other person for eternity, even in the afterlife, or they can remove the ring, thus breaking the bond. Should they choose to break the bond, they will never see the other person again, not even in the afterlife. He also tells you that, as long as you wear the ring, you will never be able to be in another relationship. Knowing all this, if your partner were to die, which would you choose: Keep the ring and never be able to be in another relationship, but be guaranteed to see your partner again once you die, or remove the ring and be unable to see your partner again for all of eternity, even after you die? Leave your response down below. If there's anything you don't understand, or need clarifying, just ask and I'll see if I can make it easier to understand.

An article in Nature (PDF below) reports on the discovery of internal embryos in placoderm (armored fish) fossils. Besides being interesting, these otherwise mundane discoveries have the possibility to radically alter our interpretation of the origin and relationships of early vertebrates. Here's the "News and Views" editorial on the research article, which is more accessible to non-specialists than the original paper.

I want to calculate a statistic involving several different factors, but don't know the math. This person has different characteristics I wish to consider. One occurs in about 10% of the general population, one in about 15% of the general population and one in about 7% of the general population, with no relationship between the three. In other words, one is not more likely to be found in one of the other two groups by virtue of being in the third. In a population of 34,000,000, how many such individuals are likely to occur? Thanks much

Right so my bestfriend is jealous of what my boyfriend and I have, or what I have with him... She told me yesterday that I am a completely different person when I'm around him and that it makes him not right for me... With her I try to have actual conversations but it just turns in to he's saying how cute Kyle Busch looks, or Carl Edwards without a shirt, or her talking about finding her teachers attractive, I always know what Mr, D is wearing, McGee from NCIS (I personally find DiNozzo more attractive). With him though I don't have to worry about hearing how good Mr.Alex looked in his new black shirt and out of style glasses... He and I have talked politics, hunting, and movies that she refuses to watch because she thinks they'll be boring, like, "Shooter" with Mark Whalberg... Is it that my personality is different or just that with my boyfriend I am able to explore my mind more and talk about things other than attractive men and Kevin Harvick in tight pants... I'm obviously not good at having a best friend and a boyfriend, I need some serious help on this subject...

Hello, I would like to find a way to focus my searching requests. For example, I entered the term 'farm' in the let's make field. My intention is to find instructables in relationship to real life farms. What I end up hitting is mostly how to work farms in minecraft. So I attempted to use the google like filter of "farm -minecraft" but that seems to focus on minecraft projects rather than skip them. Does the search engine posses a way to help me get to the projects that I am most interested in reading about and not having to flip screen after screen of minecraft farms? Thanks.

We are interested in finding some good options for small (100s-10000s) runs of HID devices that would most likely have a few fairly simple electronics components and mechanical components Anyone out there have any suggestions? We would like to find places that are cost effective, could work well with newbies to the process, and might be interested in building an ongoing relationship for multiple projects. Cheers, Heather and Joe PS The mfg need is related to this: https://www.instructables.com/community/Make-HID-beautiful-1/ which leaves the door fairly wide open for wide variety of HID designs and possible related projects. Just a random tidbit: 4chan is considered the bad side of the surface internet, full of trolls, disgusting imagery, and all kinds of things your average person doesn't need to know about. You may have heard of them in relationship to ANONYMOUS, #cutforbeiber, or any one of a number of cyber bullying incidents. Anywho, 4chan actually has some pretty well instituted rules, and it even has a DIY forum, although you have been warned about what you may find out how to make there. Well, it so happens that the famous site looks to Instructables as a standard of content and how to share projects. Picture is a direct copypasta from the rules.

Constantly under the lens of the camera, fashion is a natural form in which to explore the relationship between surveillance and culture. How are we watched? How do we watch? How do we present ourselves to the eyes of the world? I'd like to introduce a fashion show being organized for Maker Faire San Mateo, May 22&23 2010, sponsored by Noisebridge (a hackerspace in San Francisco that I am a founding member of). We are showcasing wearables that can be used for surveillance or to thwart surveillance. Full details are here, and that page will be updated with more information and a list of participants as they are finalized. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org with specific questions.

A friend of my friend Rhett just launched Thinking Putty, which is ferromagnetic silly putty. You might recognize the site, Crazy Aaron's Puttyworld, as they had some ads on Instructables last Christmas season (for full disclosure, at the time I didn't realize I was only one degree of separation from the advertiser, and now I'm posting this because I think it's cool, not because of an advertising relationship). According to Rhett, this new grey stuff feels exactly the same as regular silly putty, and it is pretty strongly ferromagnetic, as you can see from the videos. Aaron apparently has a ridiculous amount of putty related chemicals in his basement, and it took him a few years to figure this out.

Are you interested in electronic companions such as Hasbro's Furby? Do you like storytelling? If so, I would like to extend an invitation to take part in my research study. The Stories Tell Objects Project aims to understand the role that storytelling plays in people’s interactions with electronic companions - such as Hasbro’s Electronic Furby - and the relationships we form with them. Participation in this study involves responding to scenarios depicting Furbys, and/or completing two brief questionnaires. Not sure if this will work... I found a left vs right brain test online- more specifically ,http://www.wherecreativitygoestoschool.com/vancouver/left_right/rb_test.htm. I got to thinking, and I noticed that the people who call themselves creative tend to have more instructables than those who don't- so if you use the right brain percentage as a measure (however faulty) of creativity, than maybe I could graph the relationship, and (Warning- this is far fetched) find an equation. So If you could take the test, share your right brain percentage and the amount of instructables you've written, I would Greatly appreciate it. Thank you. (what I'll use to graph it - https://www.abettercalculator.com/c) Hope I'm not asking too much! :)

No, not the World Wide Web--colonies of spiders that build giant communal webs to catch their prey. However, there is an interesting twist: spiders maximize their food supply per spider if the colony includes 500 spiders; more than that, and each spider gets less.As the number of occupants grows, the volume of the webs they construct increases - but the surface-area-to-volume ratio declines. The area of web is the all-important determinant of numbers of prey caught, so bigger colonies catch proportionally fewer prey items.Reminds me of Dunbar's Number, the theory that says that groups of larger than approximately 150 people are no longer optimal because humans cannot effectively have and maintain that many social relationships.Spider Webs Article

These days, internet is being used considerably by students as well as by the teachers. I think, moving towards electronic books and materials will help the students to learn better.Huge amount of college funds are spent on books and other study material. In addition to this, they have to be carried all around campus. The relationship between students and the existing study materials is getting difficult. So it makes sense, for the teachers and students alike to look for alternatives.Taking a step forward in this direction, I have started using electronic flashcards in my classroom. We use a website called http://www.funnelbrain.com to create electronic flashcards which includes video, photos, audio and text related to the study materials. It creates an environment for students to have an interactive experience and also with its collaborative approach helps students memorize and learn better.

Hi I have to get four of my bottom teeth removed & will be getting dental implants. I decided to straighten my teeth also, so before getting implants have to get teeth straight, my bottom teeth are not to bad, Ortho said that once he has them in a position he's happy with can start the implant treatment, I'm terrified of this procedure I'm having nightmares and panic attacks. Can anyone advice if it would be easy to go under or stay awake through the procedure, all crowns on bottom teeth now broke due to movement. Will the retainer I'm given during the recovery time be a removal or permanent one? Can you sleep with it in? Im in a new relationship & would rather not share that current state of my teeth with them. Any advice on procedure would be much appreciated thanks

I'm working on a project found in this thread https://www.instructables.com/community/Solar-powered-cell-phone-charger-case-hack/ I think I'm almost ready to buy parts and start building but I have a small issue with getting the exact voltage and amperage output I need. I've been researching for hours and I can't find a simple answer to this problem. As I understand it, as voltage decreases, amperage increases to compensate and maintain wattage. Working on this basic understanding I've come up with this model. If I have a solar array consisting of 6 PV cells (1.5V 50mA ea) wired together I get 9V and 300mA. This is too much voltage and is on the low end of amps I want. If my math (and understanding of the subject) is correct, then if I use a 5V voltage regulator I will have a final max output of 5V and 433.3 mA which is right about perfect. Am I doing this right or is there more to it, like how I'm wiring the cells together? Am I correct in the idea that using a voltage regulator will increase my amp output? I'm not schooled in electricity in any way so I would appreciate any help I can get on this in as simple of a form as possible. Everything here I've put together from several hours of studying sites on solar DYI and electricity. Thanks. For reference, these are the solar cells I was referring to: http://cgi.ebay.com/High-Efficiency-Solar-Cell-32-22mm-1-5V-50mA-0-075W-/320541888508?cmd=ViewItem&pt;=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item4aa1c90ffc#ht_2428wt_1148 *EDIT* Below is a diagram of what I suspect may give me a 5V/490mAh output which would be absolutely perfect. I need to know if I can wire two different sizes of solar cells together in this manner and how it will effect the output.

Part of Instructables' mission is to inspire our community to create and share great projects. We do this though contests, theme months, and challenges that are seasonally appropriate, part of a bigger cultural trend, or simply areas where we want to see more great Instructables. This year we've decided that our overarching theme will be "Green."Our Green category focuses on the environment, reuse and recycling, and saving energy or making it in new ways. However, there's more to it. Green projects cut across all of our categories, and DIY is deeply and inherently green. When you make something yourself you often save materials, time, or money, while simultaneously generating less waste and creating a relationship with your project. Because of that relationship, you are more likely to cherish the final product, upgrade it, repair it, or even pass it along to someone else who will also cherish it. All of these actions involve making more with less, and that is fundamentally green. From my perspective as a life-long DIYer, I feel that it's time our culture took an active interest in all things green. I want to make sure the things we do are meaningful. We may have passed peak oil, but we can all work to ensure we pass "peak waste." So, to help inspire you, we'll be running a number of Instructables project contests all with a green theme. Some will be large, and some will be small -- we've even arranged sponsorship to give away Voltaic solar laptop bags and an Epilog laser cutter! To help you plan and get your projects started early and finished on time, we'll be publishing the timing of several of the contests scheduled during the first half of the year. Obviously, I think the best time to do a project is when you're most passionate about it, but I recognize everyone can benefit from a little extra motivation. Things are, of course, subject to change, but if you have even the slightest inkling of a green project, start now; especially since the real prize will be inspiring everyone that sees your work make their own lives a little bit greener.

If you're reading this, you're hopefully about to become an AiR in the best workshop on earth. Congratulations! This is an amazing opportunity, and i'd like to share my experiences so that you can hopefully glean some wisdom. When I got here, I was quickly humbled. For the first time in my life, I was intimidated. I had never been in such a vast playground and wealth of resources. I put myself under a lot of pressure. I started with some smaller projects that ended up taking a lot longer than anticipated. I did everything the hard way. During this time I formed a great relationship with shop staff, and gained a deep respect for them. A month will go by and you will look back and wonder where it all went. There are a million distractions, and it's a tough game to balance them all. In my last two months, I decided I needed to pick a problem to solve. I bit off more than I could chew, and I chewed it. I did something a bit unconventional, and did a project on sustainability. I was in over my head, and I brought in a friend for help. And i'm really glad I did. Don't constrain yourself to being an 'artist'. You are about to immerse yourself deep in the heart of the maker movement. Make things that you will be proud of, that you can do nowhere else. This is an nearly infinite opportunity, with the only limiting factor being time. You are skilled enough, have the aptitude, and can do absolutely anything. So what on earth do you make? Quick Tips: -Pick a problem, and solve it. Pick a problem that's bigger than one person. -Don't shackle additional commitments during this time. (I burnt out from a big side project) Devote yourself to the shop. -Reach out to someone at Autodesk, and see if you can get mentorship, or use your art to inform things that they are interested in. Form a relationship with them. You will find wisdom and friendship. -Find a peer, and check in regularly about the scope of your work. -Pick someone to collaborate on a big project with. Make someone else's dream come true. -Space out your classes. Don't do it all at once, or you'll forget what that critical button on the DMS is. Time Breakdown: 33% of your time goes towards collaboration 33% towards learning new stuff that's way above your comfort level 33% for the stuff you can do with your eyes closed

The Modified Toy Orchestra have a philosophy of performing everything live with a collection of re-purposed children’s toys.., converting abandoned playthings into exotic new musical instruments, and then exploring the latent potential and surplus value inherent in these liberated circuits. Guided by this hidden world they seek to make a form of music devoid of personal narrative or autobiography, instead they ask bigger questions about our relationship with “the next new gadget” the desire for the constant upgrade, and the possibilities for problem solutions hidden from our gaze by perceptual habit. The result of this on going investigation has been called cinematic, dark, joyful and life affirming. It is rare to hear an electronic live performance that has no midi, no sampling, no synthesizers, no laptops, in fact no conventional instruments of any kind. MTO have live dates coming up: 8th September at Birmingham Town Hall 10th September at Manchester Bridgewater Hall Hey, what about the title of the topic? Oh, that's from the band's appearance on the BBC website. After all, these AA batteries are dangerous... Freeno & Olaf from Modified Toy Orchestra on Vimeo.

I am doing a mini research experiment for my psychology class involving interviewing 60+ year olds who have aged well and are Exuberant in their old age. However being 18 I don't regularly keep in contact with many 60 year olds. I was wondering if any 60+ year olds (or anyone with wisdom regarding aging happily) would be willing to answer some short questions. If anyone is interested in helping me out these are the questions 1.How well are you enjoying your career/retirement? 2. How would you describe your last vacation? 3. What personal relationships have been important to you since you turned 50? Describe the most important one. 4. Ask persons about their marriage relative to "the Four Horsemen". Find out strategies used for successful marraiges. 5. Of the adaptive defensive mechanisms (aka Mature defense mechanisms), which do you believe you display on a regular basis. Also if anyone has any general wisdom on tips for remaining happy in their advanced age or how to stay happily married I would enjoy to hear it. (I'll write them down and store them away for 30 years from now!)

Hi, I'm lost, and I was wondering if you could help me. I feel stuck in life, and I've decided that I'm going to put my life into action with as much vigor as possible. I've decided to start with finances and education. I've got the finances part figured out, but I have no idea on education. I'm twenty years old. I went to a technical college for Information Technology and Communications Systems, and I left after a year because I was no longer interested, I don't believe I was prepared to take the educational leap (I hindered myself), and I left for a relationship. I don't want to make that mistake again. Being a maker, what types of possibilities are out there for career paths? What type of education should I pursue? How do I make sure that what seems like a great choice doesn't turn out to be a passing fad like my past venture? I feel as if I've wasted too much time. I haven't been in high school for three years, and I have nothing to show for it. I need to get this going as soon as possible.

Just posting this as it is seasonally relevant. Anyone looking for a fun, nerdy V-Day present might be interested in checking it out. My Etsy shop, Boyfriend Badges, sells pin back buttons that are like video game acheivements for couples. They celebrate off beat relationship moments like farting in front of each other for the first time, drunk make outs, meeting the parents, first road trip, and many more. The shop was featured twice on Geekologie and last year I released Boy+Boy and Girl+Girl versions of the most popular set. https://www.etsy.com/shop/boyfriendbadges I've created a couple tiers of promotion for this upcoming V-Day: Use code LUV2016 for 10% off any Etsy shop purchase. Share the shop link on your social media and send me a link. In return, I'll send you a promo code for 20% off your order. Submit the shop link to your favorite blog (examples --Bored Panda, Kotaku, BuzzFeed, etc). If they feature the shop as a result I'll send you a badge set of your choosing for free! Thanks for shopping with independent artists for holiday gifts, and for supporting love for everyone!--ashleyjlong

I'm doing a research project for my High School sociology class and need to interview a couple of adults, I was hoping to find some more interesting people than my parents and teachers lol. I'm looking for people around their 30's and up, but feel free to post if you want to share anyways. All the questions are directed toward what you did when you were a teenager (however far off that may seem ;-) Birth year: 1. What slang terms were common/popular when you were a teenager? 2. What did you do for fun? 3.What were you concerned about globally? 4.What was the Dumbest thing you did when you were a teenager? 5.What did you want to be when you grew up? (did you even want to grow up at all) What did you become? 6.What was your Relationship with elders and your general view of elders? 7. What was your Favorite thing to do with your friends? 8. What was the biggest thing that was considered normal/accepted then but is now not considered normal/accepted now? 9. What types of cliques/social groups were there? (jocks, preps, band nerds ect.) 10. What was your first car?

Last fall, I verified an initial relationship of resonance between two bifilar wound wires (of any length). The predictable sequence resonates at the following levels - 20 Hz, 30 Hz, 50 Hz (and all multiples of these 3 frequencies). I used a Parallax Propeller Board - with PGEN 2.0 software from Innovationshop in Germany. This software allows for a waveform built of 32 stacked frequencies to be created and amplified. I have used it to successfully break the bonds of distilled water - as one of my earlier videos shows 2 years ago. JL Naudin calls it a "GEGENE machine" - but it is a simple, tabletop, particle accelerator. His results can be found here::: http://jnaudin.free.fr/wfcbooster/indexen.htm One of my earlier videos from May 2013 - can be found at YouTube - I just want to show people how this works. It is a 4 minute explanation of open-sourced Patent 512,340.::: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHxK1VWrXcM The materials:: 1 - 1800 watt induction cooktop (iron, copper, or 3-ply stainless cookware is required on these types of devices) 2. 50 feet of 14 AWG speaker wire 3. 2-10 count of 500-watt halogen lightbulbs. 4. wire, solder & connectors for the wire-ends. 5. 1 stainless-steel HHO DC electrolyzer tank. 6. Cooking Pan - or light fixture (to hold light bulbs). 7. High Voltage diodes (500 Volts or higher)

Check out Potenco's latest pull-cord generator in this interview Colin did for Wired. Video: Potenco's Latest Pull-Cord Power GeneratorA couple of weeks ago, we headed out to Potenco's amazing headquarters at the decommissioned Alameda Naval Base to check out their power generator for the developing world. It looks a bit like a yo-yo, and generates an average of 25 watts of power in normal operation. That's enough to power twenty minutes of cellphone talk time with just one minute of pulling.Their engineering feats could ultimately enable millions in the developing world to access information through their cellphones and internet devices, and light their homes with smoke-free lanterns. Now all they have to do is get them out into the field. One proprietary thing we couldn't show you was the Potenco cord testing room, where a Rube-Goldberg looking machine put dozens of types of strings through thousands of simulated yanks and pulls.Nicholson Baker envisioned such a machine in his book, The Mezzanine, but for shoelaces, not power generators. We echo his thoughts on the relationship between finding the right strings and civilization's advance: "He had constructed a machine and strapped hundreds of shoelaces of all kinds into it, wearing them down over and over, in a passionate effort to get some subtler idea of the forces at work... Progress was being made. Someone was looking into the problem."Enjoy the video! Thanks to Potenco (especially Mike Lin and Colin Bulthaup) for letting us come out and Michael Lennon and Annaliza Savage here at Wired for putting it together.

Hello all! I am currently in the process of designing an (increasingly) large project using LED light strips. These are the strips I intend on using. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? It should be. The other thing is that this is a portable project, one that I want to be able to use without being tethered to an outlet. Basically, what it comes down to is that the project involves using about 8.25 meters of light strip. I say about because I haven't done precise measurements, but I'm buying ten meters which should be plenty. This adds up to 264 LEDs total (for the 8.25, not the 10). Each LED can draw up to 60 mA at full brightness, so all of them at full brightness would draw almost 16 A >_< I am thinking that the best way to go about this would be to build four smaller battery packs, each powering about 2 meters of strip. I was looking at using these Li-Ion cells. The only problem is that I do not know how to accomplish what I am trying to do. I am still befuddled by the relationship between a battery's "C" rating and its mAh, and I am quite unsure of what kind of circuit these batteries need to be used with to prevent killing them, or worse, fires. What I really want is to be able to run the entire thing for 3-4 hours on a single charge of all four of the battery packs. But I also want to have the possibility to run all the LEDs at full brightness (albeit for a fraction of a second) without damaging the circuitry. Another problem I am encountering is that these batteries are 3.7V, and the strip needs about (but no more than) 5V to run. I appreciate any advice, help, references, etc. you can give me. I don't need a full blueprint or schematic of how exactly to do this, but I do not even know in which direction to start looking. Thanks again.

I just stumbled across this wonderful exhibition at the MOMA in NY, which will be running until May 12. If you browse the online exhibit, you'll see a bunch of technologies and artworks that have graced these pages previously, but there's tonnes more of Really Cool Stuff - definitely worth passing by if you happen to be in New York...Design and the Elastic Mind, February 24-May 12, 2008View the Online Exhibit! In the past few decades, individuals have experienced dramatic changes in some of the most established dimensions of human life: time, space, matter, and individuality. Working across several time zones, traveling with relative ease between satellite maps and nanoscale images, gleefully drowning in information, acting fast in order to preserve some slow downtime, people cope daily with dozens of changes in scale. Minds adapt and acquire enough elasticity to be able to synthesize such abundance. One of design's most fundamental tasks is to stand between revolutions and life, and to help people deal with change. Designers have coped with these displacements by contributing thoughtful concepts that can provide guidance and ease as science and technology evolve. Several of them—the Mosaic graphic user's interface for the Internet, for instance—have truly changed the world. Design and the Elastic Mind is a survey of the latest developments in the field. It focuses on designers' ability to grasp momentous changes in technology, science, and social mores, changes that will demand or reflect major adjustments in human behavior, and convert them into objects and systems that people understand and use.The exhibition will highlight examples of successful translation of disruptive innovation, examples based on ongoing research, as well as reflections on the future responsibilities of design. Of particular interest will be the exploration of the relationship between design and science and the approach to scale. The exhibition will include objects, projects, and concepts offered by teams of designers, scientists, and engineers from all over the world, ranging from the nanoscale to the cosmological scale. The objects range from nanodevices to vehicles, from appliances to interfaces, and from pragmatic solutions for everyday use to provocative ideas meant to influence our future choices.

Every once in a while, I'll get a comment that makes my brain lock up on an Instructable or an Answer that I've posted. When I tell RavingWife about some of these, she accuses me of making them up, or at least embellishing for effect. This leads me to believe that others might find these amusing, and may also have funny comments of their own to contribute. In the spirit of fun, I hereby institute the Facepalm Award - to be given for comments posted on this site which unintentionally make us laugh, or at least stare in stunned disbelief. I'll kick it off with a couple of nominees of my own: 1) On a question asking for cheat codes for a video game, I answered: Wouldn't it be cool if there were a site out there dedicated to cheats and walkthroughs of video games? That would be AWESOME!!! The Nominee: TheOriginalPoster (author) says: hahaha very funny but i do not have that kind of time Sure, because you're too busy doing important stuff like playing video games..... I don't know if I find this amusing because of the serious time management issues indicated by the response, or because the OP gave my snarky comment a Best Answer..... 2) This one has been flagged and deleted, so I'll have to paraphrase. It was a response on a thread which had absolutely nothing to do with sexuality, dating, relationships or anything in that vein. No double entendres, no sly puns, no wink-wink, nudge-nudge of any kind. My post on that thread was totally innocuous as well. The Nominee: HI I JUST SIGNED UP FOR THIS A LITTLE WHILE AGO IVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND- PRETTY COOL STUFF. ARE YOU BISEXUAL????? Uhhhh... what? So, do you have any nominees of your own? Post 'em so we can all have a chuckle. Nominees will not be officially judged by anyone. No points will be tallied, no winner will be selected, and any hypothetical winner which might have been selected would not have received any kind of prize anyway.

Crows n RavensFor centuries the corvids, ravens and crows in particular (corvus corax is the Latin name for the common raven and corvus corone for the carrion and hooded crows), have had a special place in the mythology of various cultures. In modern times this fascination has barely diminished. From Edgar Allen Poe's literary classic to the film of James O'Barr's cult graphic novel "The Crow", these birds still exert a powerful hold over the psyche of a significant fraction of the population. The Goths who paint their faces with white make-up and the weekend warriors who expect Raven to take them to the Otherworld to meet the dead do not see the same animal as the farmers who set up decoys in order to shoot large numbers of them every year in late spring. This is, however, typical of a creature that presents a paradox wherever one looks.Corvids are sociable birds. They tend to form social groups, and this can be seen particularly in the case of rooks, which stay in their flocks all year round. Ravens, the largest of the family, reaching as much as 3 feet from beak to tail, form groups as juveniles, pairing off into lifelong monogamous and extremely territorial relationships at around the age of three. The courtship can involve such fun and games as synchronised snow sliding, and, of course, the synchronised flight test. The corvids can be found all over the world, and are the largest of the passeriformae, or songbirds. The common raven is widely distributed throughout the Northern hemisphere, and the adaptability and intelligence of this family have made it extremely successful. As far as the mythology goes, the first confusion arises over the distinction between Crow and Raven, at least on the European side of the Atlantic. The two appear, in many instances, to be interchangeable, and the appearance of one or the other in a story depends as much on which author is transcribing it as it does on story itself. Whereas John Matthews 1 gives Bran the raven almost exclusively, Miranda Jane Green 2 ascribes to the God's companion animal either the crow or the raven, much as both authors do for the Morrigan. The confusion on the American side of the Atlantic is not so profound. There is a distinct geographical trend in the likelihood of Raven appearing in a story, and so we will start our examination there.
