How can you keep horseflies away from a pool area? Answered

So, I was swimming at my friends pool today, and 5 of us were bitten by horseflies multiple times. Is there any kind of natural repellent to keep horseflies away from their pool area? Also, they have a bunch of flowers around the pool, so if there is anyway to repel just the horseflies, and not the pollenating bees, that would be great.

Flies - and how to repel them?

Hi, My parents live near a cow farm, and in summer, there is a major problem with flies. Over the years, the house has had most of it's orifices closed with fly & mosquito screens, but even so when eating outside, or playing in the pool, the little buzzers are a real pain. For the moment, nothing really seems to work on repelling flies. What works for mosquitoes does not apply to a fly, a part from fly swats & screens... Does any one have any natural or electronic fly repeller that really works? Cheers, Bpfh

Does spraying rubbing alchohol on your body work as mosquito repelent?

I live way out in the middle of no-where, and my driveway is at least a mile long. Because of the distance from civilization, and the densly packed woods all the way around my house, i like to take hikes in my woods in only socks and shoes. But lately the mosquitos are getting reallly bad, to the point where i take the mosquito repelent with me so i can apply it every two minutes or less. I heard somewhere that rubbing alchohol works as a mosquito repelent and i wanted to hear from someone who was tried it. Do you have any other suggestions for repelent? With that much skin exposed, i can't risk too many mosquito bites.

How do I get rid of spiders in my home?? I'm terribly afraid of them? Answered

I live in a mobile home. At this time of year insects thrive. Unfortunately, I'm terrified of most insects, especially spiders. Lately, I've found spiders on the kitchen cabinets and counters. Any suggestions on how to repel them from being in my home?? I hate to use insecticides, but will if I have to. I prefer a more natural type of repelling them. Thank you. Linda D.

Calculate magnet repulsive force?

I'm looking to make a "floating" model by insetting NdFeB rare-earth magnets with same poles facing so they repel. Now, magnet selling places specify the "pull" a magnet might have, say 1.2kg. What I would like to know is if the repel is equal in magnitude as the pull if two similar magnets are placed with same poles facing, is the force exerted 1.2kg and so I could float 1.2kg of stuff? Also, does stacking magnets double the attractive or repelling force, i.e. do two 1.2kg magnets stuck together lift 2.4kg of stuff, negating the small difference in distance of one magnet from the object? Is there a way to calculate the distance between two opposing magnets with a force applied. Does it follow the inverse cube rule? And if the stacking does work, do I also need an equal number of magnets on the other side for repelling, i.e. a stack of two 1.2kg magnets repels 2.4kg with one 1.2kg on the other side, or not? Does the magnet on the other side have to be the same force? Lots of questions but hoping someone can shed some light on this as I've not been able to find anything about it :-(

Energy wheel

This Idea is based on Magnetic Repulsion and Kinetic force. According to diagram there will be a  Wheel and a magnet(1) will be attached with this wheel. There will be a balance system(seesaw system) and two magnets(2no.magnet and 3no. magnet) will be attached with this balance system . when 1 magnet will repel 2 no.magnet then the 2 no.magnet will move upward and due to this movement the 3 no. magnet will come down and will work to repel 1 no. magnet and wheel will start to rotate. when 1 no. magnet will again repel 2 no.magnet after a rotation then the 3 no. magnet will again work to repel the 1 no.magnet. In this way the wheel will rotate again and again. The magnetic strength of 1 no. magnet will be high than 2 no. and magnetic strength of 3 no. magnet will be high than 1 no. magnet. I want to develop this technology.

strong electromagnets that repel each other?

I have two electromagnets already but they aren't strong enough to really push each other. I've read mixed things online about electromagnets that repel being very weak. I would like to build something like a shock absorber with a electromagnet at each end so when their is a load on the shock absorber the electromagnet can push back and stiffen. Any ideas on this would be awesome, i've spent a lot of hours researching online already but cant seem to find good info.  Thanks

Tick repellent spray for dogs?

My dog and I go out geocaching often and it brings us to many locations deep in the woods.  Naturally, both her and I pick up dozens of ticks along the way. The dog takes a monthly dose of Frontline and it works.  The ticks bite her and die.  No problems with the medication.  I spray myself with bug spray and there are few issues of ticks getting on me when we're out. The problem is, when we go home she will have ticks on her that I missed and they will crawl off of her and onto me or my wife.  I'll find myself sitting on the couch watching TV or driving to the store and I'll get bit by a tick.  My thinking is that if I can repel ticks from the dog, we will bring less home. Is there a temporary spray that will repel ticks from my dog for 3 or 4 hours while we're out hiking and is compatible with her Frontline medication?

Has anyone noticed that new clothes and things like washcloths and dishtowels seem to repel water when they get wet? Not really repel, but they don't absorb it, and the surface stays (and feels) wet. After the clothes get washed a couple hundred times, it wears off and is like old clothes. Can anyone tell me why this is happening (and why manufacturers decided to do this)?

What is the best design for an electromagnet in a pulse engine?

I am a complete bigger to all magnets, electromagnets, and electronics in general. Recently I've had an interested in different electric motors and have been looking into trying to make a pulse motor that is both efficient and powerful. To do this I want to be able to have the best arrangement of the magnetic fields of the neodymium magnets on the spinning disk and the electromagnets on the outside. I started playing around with the magnetic calculator found on https://www.kjmagnetics.com/calculator.asp but I don't really know what I'm looking at, just that different shapes and sizes have different fields and strengths.  Since a pulse motor is built by using an electromagnet to repel a neodymium magnet, what would be the best design for a strong burst electromagnet in the direction it's repelling the neodymium magnet? Also, what would be the best shape for the magnet to have the biggest repelling effect from the pulsing electromagnets?

Magnetic Field for hollow core?

I am working on a project in which I have to control a small setup at the end of a motor shaft using an electromagnet. The electromagnet needs to be around the shaft inbetween the setup and the motor. So I have used a metallic ferromagnetic spool(image attached) and wound 32 gauge wire on it to make it an electromagnet and put the shaft through it. Since this core made out of spool is hollow, I'm not sure how the magnetic field will behave. I tried powering up the one I made and it' seems to be both attracting and repelling a magnet's pole (edges attract while centre somewhat repels). Anyone got any idea about this?

Magnetic nail art?

Http://www.nylonmag.com/?section=article&parid=410 Lancome used to make a nail polish with a magnet on the bottle. You'd paint your nails and then put them near the magnet, which would create a starburst pattern by attracting and repelling charged pigments. Is it just me or could this be done with a pinch of iron oxide powder in any nail polish?

why there is change in polarity in a bar magnet when it breaks?

A bar magnet when breaks does not attracts but repels from where it has broken ...   like [N-------S]   is a bar magnet on breaking it should be like  [ N---S} {N---S ] but it happens to be  [N----S} {S---N] ..  means there is "repulsion" between them WHY SO ?? (Pratically seen)

Some "Attractive" Questions

I've been thinking for a bit, and  I have some questions on magnetism. Question 1: Is molten metal magnetic?  If you place a magnet over a molten metal like iron for example, will it be attracted to the magnet? Question 2: If diamagnetism can be used to repel water, can you use nagnets to slow down or even stop the speed of drainage if the magnet is strong enough? That is all. Thank you.

Dual energy generation with magnetic Seesaw system and gravity with the help of 3 volt toy motor

This technology is based on  a Seesaw system and magnetic repelling principle Linear motion  .We can generate electricity with very little force with the help of this technology. This will be a radical step in the field of energy generation. In this technology there will be a balance system and two heavy weight magnets(high strength NEODYMIUM MAGNETS) will be attached with each side of this balance system as per diagram. As per diagram there will be two moving weights and these moving weights will move on tracks. These tracks will be fixed at the angle of 8 to 10 degree. Two magnets will be attached on the front side of these moving weights and these magnets will have similar polarity with the magnets of balance system. These moving weights will be attached with two gear boxes and these gear boxes will be attached with two generators. HOW THIS TECH WILL WORK? When one side heavy weight magnet of balance system will be pressed with the help of any kind of external force then this side will come down and repel its side moving weight due to equal polarity of magnets.due to repelling the moving weight will move forward .but when the heavy weight magnet will move upward then this moving weight will move backward due to gravity to get its position back. in this way this moving weight will work to run a gear box and this gear box will work to start a generator to generate energy. This balance system will also work to pass through their side copper coil due to linear movement and in this way this technology will generate Dual energy. WE will take very high strength NEODYMIUM magnets  for balance system. I would like to insist on some following points (1) The balance system will be attached with 'L' form crank with external PRESSING source. (2) The moving weights will also be attached with 'L' form crank with gear boxes. (3) Each side magnet of balance system will work one by one .When one side magnet will come down the another side magnet will move up .These magnets will come down and move up one by one to repel their side moving weight. (4) We can take as much weight as we can of these magnets of balance system .(500 kilogram to 1000 Kilogram or more) to pass through the heavy coils having 100000 turns or more.  (5) External source of pressing this balance system could be anything such as pressing with foot  or solar cell. WE WILL NEED ONLY 3 VOLT EXTERNAL ENERGY TO PRESS THIS BALANCE SYSTEM  AND GENERATE MORE AND MORE ENERGY.

Anti Gravity Idea...

OK I had this idea. I was online and thought up this idea for an anti gravity machine. This is it: use extremely static negatively charged materials for anti gravity. It could work the same way lightning clouds do. The base of the cloud is negatively charged and the ground become positively charged. Now if the material of the anti gravity "thing" is charged with static electricity, wouldn't it repel the ground? Now I am by far no expert in any of this...I just thought it up. What do you guys think?
