Arp Odyssey 1975 Help

Hello,  I recently found an old arp Odyssey from 1975, however it does not work. I have tried to clean the sliders because they were really junky and I tested the power supply and I know it outputs 15v and 5v, although I think its supposed to be -+15v. I really like to do electronics and I just need some pointers on what I should focus on what might be wrong. Thanks

HELP?! I need some advice on chair restoration!

I have spotted this chair in a charity shop, I have been looking for a similar style to this for my flat to restore/up-cycle. I plan to either have the cushion restored or to recover in a soft furnishing for a different look However... I am a total novice to this kind of this so I was just wondering: 1. What I should pay for a chair like this, in this condition? 2. How much would it cost to reupholster both DIY & by a professional? 3. How much it would be worth when finished? Any help and advice given would be much appreciated, as I really am unsure! Thanks!

Restoring an old charcoal iron

Hi guys! I found a beautiful charcoal iron at a flea-market and grabbed it up without giving it much thought. Now I have no idea how to bring it back to it`s former glory. The base is iron, and pretty damn corroded iron at that. The good part is that it isn't chipping. The bad part is that the whole thing is orange... The handle is made of wood and there's no way that I can see to take it off. Any ideas?

Starry String Lights?

Hi all, first time poster, hoping I am putting it in the right spot. Last night my wife brought home these awesome "Starry String lights" from Restoration Hardware (http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1730031). They look fantastic in the house, but she tells me they are REALLY expensive per foot. I was wondering if anyone out there in the community has ever done a DIY version of these lights and if so, would you mind sharing your technique? I would love to string these in several locations but don't want to pay the outrageous price for them! Thanks in advance, Jake

Need help with antique brass lamp

Hello All: I found this antique brass lamp and would like to restore it. I'm looking for information on how to clean it up and remove the tarnish. There's the chemical way (for instance, Brasso or others) or the "natural" way (I saw a vinegar, salt, flour paste). Has anyone had any experience with this that they can share? Also, I'm looking at what the final restoration will be. I have 3 ideas: 1. Restore it to it's brassy, original self with a torchiere globe (as in the last picture), 2. Restore it to original but modify it with an RGB LED nightlight in the base (next-to-last picture), 3. Clean it up but give it a steampunkish look by painting it a copper color, adding Edison bulbs to the 3 armatures, and maybe some etching on the globe. Any other ideas? Thanks, Kevin

Unjailbreaking Help

I have a 4th generation ipod touch that is jailbroken. I jailbroke it by using redsnow. Some of the apps cash now so i can't use them, and its a little slower than usual. So, i've decided to unjailbreak it. If I restore it on itunes, will it go back to normal? If I restore it and put on the backed up data, will it include all of the save data on apps, bookmarks on safari, contacts data, and other stuff like that? Do I need to uninstall redsnow from my computer before I restore it? Is there anything that could happen that could possibly make my ipod forever unusable and broken? And does it take a couple hours for it to restore and put on all of the back up data, because I have about 28 gigs of stuff on my ipod? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm just really concerned that if i try to restore it, something will happen and it will just be a $300 paperweight. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer these questions.

restoring ovalia egg chair

I am trying to restore an original thor larsen ovalia egg chair for my game room.  i have stripped out all of the old worn out fabric from the interior down to the bare rough fiberglass.  i'm trying to adhere fabric to this rough fiberglass using spray adhesives with little success so far.  i have tried using 3m super 77 adhesive and also misty foam and fabric adhesive.  my test piece of fabric pulled off easily after letting the adhesive set up for over 24 hours.  i'm wondering if anyone has some ideas on this process of adhering fabric to fiberglass that i may be missing.  i've looked for info on restoring a piece like this one and have come up short so far.  so any info or ideas of things to try would be welcome. thanks!

Restoring a vintage child's pull-wagon. Anyone know where to get replacement wheels?

I am desperately looking for replacement vintage-style wheels for a pull-wagon that I'm restoring. It's in rough shape but all the bits are good except for two wheels which are beyond repair. I also have a strange old 3 wheel kick scooter that needs a wheel. I've scoured the 'net under every heading I can think of with no luck. Can anyone help? I need metal disc-type wheels like the ones in the photo. This is a pic of an old wagon I simply cleaned, waxed (including the wheels) and turned into a coffee table using a piece of tempered glass someone threw away.  I've since added those transparent little silicone "bumpers" on the corners to stop the top from sliding off.

Wood Chest Renovation

Hi There I have a wooden chest that I was asked to restore. The chest is made of what appears normal pine, but it was painted over with a dark paint. The owner asked me to try and restore it to the original wood. My question is: 1. Obviously I would have to sand it, but what grit of sand paper do I use to get rid of the paint and to get the smooth surface? 2. What would be the best application after sanding, oil or varnish? The client is not a fan of a gloss finish so what would be the best option? Thanks Marcel

Headlight Restoration on the cheap.

How to restore your dull plastic headlamps to like new, for about $4.00 (if your lamps are dirty on the inside, that is a whole other instructable): Step 1 - Wash the headlamps with common dish soap and allow to dry thoroughly, this will remove the dirt and oils from the lamp. Step 2 - Using regular rubbing compound or silver polish (I used Silvo brand silver polish (about $4.00 a can here in Canada), it may work with copper polish as well) Apply a small amount of compound or polish using a soft cotton cloth (an old t-shirt or sheet cut into manageable size) gently rub the lamp in a circular motion (the amount of pressure is determined by the severity of the dullness, you may need to repeat the procedure more than once) allow the polish or rubbing compound to dry to a haze, usually by the time your done both lamps the first one will be ready to perform the next step. Step 3 - Using a clean dry cotton cloth buff the lens to remove all of the haze, if the lamp still looks dull repeat step 2. Step 4 - Once you are satisfied that the lenses are as polished as they will get, wax both lamps with a high quality auto wax, (a wax containing carnuba is the best) Mother's or Maguires works great. The wax will prevent bugs, dust and dirt from sticking to the lamp and it will retain it's clarity for a long time, if the lamp starts to look dull simply apply a new coat of wax. Step 5 - Stand back and admire your newly restored headlamps - you will be amazed at how much further you can see at night. *The attached photo is of my headlamp on my 1998 Suzuki Esteem - The before picture is from another 1998 Suzuki Esteem, my lamps were almost as bad as the one pictured here.

Restore Painted Letters on Keyboard Keys

White dry transfer letters can be purchased from: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Woodland-Scenics-Railroad-Gothic-Letters-Whit-WOODT507-/130726408706?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash;=item1e6fe6b202#ht_3538wt_785 for $6.67. The letters are typically used in model railroading. Clean the keyboard keys with a mild cleaner on a damp cloth. Wipe dry. Remove any partial letters with a pencil or ballpoint pen eraser. Apply the letters to the keys per the instructions on the package. A dull pencil works well. Lightly coat the key with clear nail polish. Should look like new and will last longer than the original.

A virus wiped my C: drive and deleted Windows Vista off my Notebook.

I downloaded this program off the Internet, and it wiped my C: drive. When I turn on my notebook it loads the Bios and then goes to the loading screen, it stops there and and doesn't even display the vista logo. I have tried the system restore time and time again but it always says that it fails. I went through the software and warranty booklet, and it says that you don't need a disk for system restore as it is already installed on another drive. I was not given a operating system disk for it to reload vista. I do not know what to do, can somebody please help. I think that all I need to do is buy another vista, but don't want to pay the hefty price. what can I do?

Whew.... ! ! ! ! ! I thought I might never see you all again (this month).....

Since last night (07/ 09/ 08) Until moments ago, I was unable to connect to the web through a browser ( my ISP said I was connected, but I was having NO luck bringing up a page from anywhere). Finally, after 6 restores, 9 reboots, one wasted service call to the ISP, 30+ tweaks that I now have to go and put back (since they didn't help at ALL), I had had it, and restored back to SUNDAY (cursed MicroSoft Critical Updates). It worked. And my 18 hour hiatus is finally over.....I was getting very worried ( partially since I pay most of my bills on line, they would be late if I had to snail mail them). Glad to see you all are still behaving LOL.

Unable to add description boxes to photos that are not the first photo in an instructable step

When creating a new step-by-step instructable, I am unable to add descriptiong to any photos except the first one in a step. To remedy this I kept switching which photo was first, added my comments, and restored the photos to the correct order. This took a really long time and was very inconvenient, but it got the job done!

Inexplicable Popularity

This is an issue that has always puzzled me, and more recently affected me. And it is entirely based on the phenomenon of an old forum topic being suddenly and randomly restored to the front of the board after an extended vacation to the back of the list. My topic, "Facebook for Nerds" has been one of the recent reincarnations to be affected and no matter how much it pleases me that someone new felt a need to comment on my original post, It begs the question of "why now" and "why this one"?

Bicycle Names

I name my bikes, usually for something wrong with them. Rusty, well, obvious. Lefty, it pulls to the left. Tiny, well, it's tiny. Some have more thoughtful names, like Phoenix, a bike I found in a ditch that was apparently thrown from a moving pickup. The fourth definition of the word Phoenix at this dictionary is a person or thing that has become renewed or restored after suffering calamity or apparent annihilation. Do you name your bikes?

Request For Recommendations: Disk/partition imaging software

. I'm having some problems upgrading WindowsXP to SP3 on my daughter's computer. Fresh install. I can get the OEM WinXP Pro SP1a and the drivers installed OK. SP2 installs without any problems. So far, all software installs without a hitch under SP2. Upgrading to SP3 causes Windows Update to fail (updates download, verify, and attempt to install) and I can no longer install programs. I've tried installing SP3 at several places in the process, starting after the SP2 upgrade.. I'm looking for a free program to create/restore a disk image of a HDD or partition. I want to create snapshots after each step, so I can do a quick restore if the experiment fails. There are several free apps available, but none seem to meet my requirements. The direct-to-disc feature seems to be one feature missing from all of the freebies.. Anybody know of a free imaging app that will: Environment:run installed under Windows, but must be able to image the boot/system drive/partitionand/orno-install run under Windows from CD/DVD/USBand/orBoot/run any OS from CD/DVD Image files:prefer direct to CD/DVD.save, in CD- or DVD-sized chunks, to another HDD/partition (same HDD/Prtn would be nice as would using LAN drives)compression of data would be nice. Ignoring empty space is required.where possible, use images/compression/&c; that will be compatible with other programs. Misc:free!First data disc should be bootable (created when saving to CD/DVD) and have app to restore image. Booting from a separate idsc would be OK.browsing files/folders in image would be nice, but not required. . TIA

Adding Instructables to Groups no longer allowed?

Three years ago, Noah documented a then-new interface to add published Instructables to Groups to which a user belonged.  Some time in the last few months, that interface, the Add To Your Groups button, was removed from the Instructables right-hand sidebar.  Was this a deliberate change to the interface, or an accidental oversight? If it was deliberate, then I think a forum topic announcing the change explicitly would be in order.  A search for "add to groups" reveals no such topic. If it was an oversight, could it be restored?

painting a lawn flamingo

I am trying to bring back the pink quality of several Yard flamingos.  I know I could buy new ones, but certain people would rather keep for sentimental reasons, so I am trying to restore them.  My problem is when they are painted, after a period of time it chips off, I believe it is because the paint cannot deal with the flamingo plastic swell and shrink of the heat of the day and the coolness of the night.  Any ideas to extend the paint's life, would be appreciated.

I forgot that the world is supposed to be round...

...and I fell over the edge for a while there. :) Either that, or the demands and distractions of the non-Instructables-existosphere dragged me in and kept hold of me for several months. Stats about downloaded files?

I have some files attached to my Ibles and wanted to know if there have been any downloads of the files. After all, with no feedback I thought I could see if people actually use it (or collect the files for fun). But either I am blind or there is nothing in the stats that would give me this info. Did I miss something or this just not implemented? Also: What the size limits for uploads/attachments and is there a way to restore them in case the got lost on the servers?

Please help me restore this old Lead acid battery

Hello everyone, I just salvaged a small, 50AH FLA battery from a Tractor. The Battery has seen 2~3 calendar years. It was showing 11.38 Volts sitting on the shelf since 3 months so I thought it was good and I brought it for a bargain. I brought it home and connected it to my Intelligent charger which claims to support (Automatic)- Deep discharge Charging Boost Charging Absorbtion Charge Tricke Charge Equization Charge Automatic Charge Current and voltage regulation with Temperature compensated charging. The charger is currently showing "Boost charge" at about 12 Amperes. Problem is,the Charging voltage seems to Jump from 13.1v all the way to 14.2V (like under 10 sec) I hooked my DMM to the battery terminals which comfirmed the same. Sometimes the voltage also reaches 14.4v and the Charger goes into "Equalization Charge" but falls back to Boost charge at 13.5v or something odd. After 3 days for 'Cycling" I tried a eq charge twice. it seems to be improving. the Battery voltage on charge is still jumping across 13.6v to 14.2v. if I draw a load it goes back to 12.3v. admirably, I connected the Battery to our DC load yesterday night and it ran Led street lights (load 4a ) for 5 hours before I switched it off. 20AH is decent progress for 50ah old Battery right? do you think it's sulpahation that's causing voltage jump? I ran the Battery down to 11.5v yesterday. in the morning with sun up, the Battery is slowly progressing from 12.8v and above... very stably. the charger shows'absorbtion charge' at 8-9 amps. 8 amps are good for 50ah Battery right? else how do we test the ah of Battery?

*UPDATE: AAARRRGGGG ! Looks Like my BOOT got a hole in it.......

Soooo, I guess I am buying a new HD.   So far all attempts to boot the machine to Windows has left me with ChkDsk looping on an error it can not fix.  If I could just get Ubuntu to boot to ROOT so I can transfer all my admin files, I wouldn't care so much abouit losing the HD.   So far, I've spent a full 12 hours working on it......I even did a full "restore" from the repair disk.....nothing changed, but nothing failed during the restore....so something is not quite right. This also means I will be on line in a MUCH more limited fashion than before. Replaced the HD.....had a LOT of problems until  I realized the machine still saw the old drive and kept trying to run CHKDSK on it.    New HD 320gb installed an up.....tomorrow, we deal with installing the firewall, and maybe, if I have some time,  a few other things  (like a word processor, etc).    What a day its been though !  I STILL can't get ON LINE at home....not from windows anyways.....still no firewall.....sigh...this is gettin ridiculous...

Why did Text/Photos Disappear from my Instructable? | HOW TO FIX!

If I had a dollar for every time I accidentally clicked on another place on the screen while working on an Instructable, resulting in loss of data... Even if you click the save button many times, if you suddenly quit, the editor won't remember what you did. I've seen SO MANY comments saying that the editor didn't save what they wrote right before uploading, so I decided to share what I do to help stop this... Most members will see this forum topic only when it's too late, but at least they might remember this for future I'bles... 1. Open a "Preview" version of the Instructable in a new tab. If your computer crashes, you might be able to restore previous tabs, and your computer should remember what was written in the preview. Then you can copy and paste everything where it needs to be... 2. Send yourself an email of each step. Just copy and words of each step and paste them on one draft email... 3. Take screenshots. At least you'll be able to see what you wrote... Hope this helps! Please leave ideas of what else you can do in the comments

Old Computer Parts...

Alright I know this question has been asked a hundred times before, but I've searched and none of them have been close to what I specifically want. I have two old computers with some fans and L.E.D's, and I was just wanting to find something to use these things for. Everything I find is either about restoring the computer or just using the shell of one. I want something like robots lights or something like that. Oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Another Fire Fox Question.....it just will not stay UP

Ok, I am having difficulties recently with FireFox (I am using FLOCK because of this). I click on the ShortCut and the home page loads (here of course), but as soon as most of the page loads, it shuts down, and then prompts me to send FF an error report. Yesterday was the first I noticed this. This morning, I backed up a day using the setting restore, but nothing changed. Has anyone else experienced recent problems with their upgrade or anything?
