Reverse Graffiti

The artist Moose creates graffiti on walls not by adding paint, but by removing dirt. He's been doing this for a few years now and he originally just used a sock, water, and a bit of soap. In this video we can see that he's moved on up to using a pressure washer and stencils to create 140-foot murals. via Wooster Collective

Reverse batik painting?

I was looking through trying to rediscover how to do an art project I did years ago in school. Maybe if I describe it to you, you could very briefly tell me how to recreate what I did. I would be so appreciative--I really want to recreate this project, but I'm unsure how. The assignment was the creation of a painting that was, for lack of a better despcription, like a reverse batik. We were supposed to leave negative-space borders along every contour of every figure and then we painted over the whole thing with black. When dry, we gently rinsed off the black paint and I was very pleased with the outcome. Over the years, however, I've misplaced my piece, and I forget: what kind of paint is best to use? I have some gouache at home, will this do? I would really appreciate just the briefest of responses from you, and then I can get to painting! I'm so excited because I haven't made a painting in years!

Is reverse engineering illegal?

Is reverse engineering illegal? Well, if you then go on to sell your version? For example, in an upcoming instructable I'm modding some electronics, well, without revealing my instructable here's an equivilent example: Lets say I buy a little robot at the store, it has motors and the case and everything. Only problem is, it runs on AA's and you want rechargable batteries. Also, the wireless module for some reason is external and is super ugly and annoying. You crack open everything and you find that the needlessly large circuitboards only have about 20 (somewhat) easy to find components that adds up to like 2 dollars. Following traces, you recreate a schematic from the PCB (already did this, that was fuuunnn :P). Now you reengineer the board (still same schematic) so that it's much more compact, you've added a little charging circuit (and correspond boost circuit, replacing a couple of AA's with a lithium ion), and you made it all fit inside the robot (no wireless module just hanging around outside the robot. Now, essentially the schematic is the same, but you've added stuff like the boost circuit and charging circuit. You've also added a few customizing features that make it more special (adding LEDs, microcontroller, cough cough etc.). Would it be illegal to sell a board/kit (incase other people want the board and can't solder smd to good) for people to modify there own robot (same model etc.). Also, the schematic from the reverse engineering is very similar to an example circuit in the main chip's datasheet, and a few other parts are common sense (like some resistors here and there, LEDs, a few extra filtering caps), so the company's circuit is nearly identical to the datasheet, is this illegal to sell?

IS IT POSSIBLE TO REVERSE A SWITCH?

Im building a multiphase coilgun but encountered a problem. In order to activate secondary phases i need a photoelecric switch. In my case it is TCRT5000 photoelectric switch. The problem, however, is that once the ''beam of light'' is shining on it, the switch is turned on, but i need it to be turned off when ''beam'' is directed at the diode and turn on when the ''beam'' is not directed at the diode. How do I do this? And in this case changing polarities wont change anything.

How to build a motor reverser?

I have tried reversing the polarity but they won't spin the other way. Can someone help? There are no diodes in the circuit, I have checked. I think it's because the fans can only work if hooked up properly, can someone confirm?

How to wire a reverse polarity switch

I have an old Rascal 600 scooter that has a seat actuator that will go up but not down. I have tried to find the problem but can't.  It will operate up and down early in the morning when it is cool but later after it warms up it will only go up. I want to wire a reverse polarity switch directly from the 23VDC system(2-12 volt batteries)to the actuator motor. The actuator motor is 24VDC 12.5 AMP. It has a compression load of 600LBS. The motor has a black and red lead. Please include the size or sizes of wire I will need.  Also please be as specific and simple as possible. A drawing would be especially helpful. Thanks a million and God Bless!

How does one wire a motor so that it reverses automatically?

I'm looking for a relatively simple, mechanical way (by that I mean not using a micro-controller) to wire a motor so that it will reverse direction without being switched manually. The interval is unimportant, and the purpose is to have two spools connected by a loop of string (think reel-to-reel), one of which is controlled by the motor. A low-tech solution would be awesome.

How to reverse the rotation of a vacuum cleaner motor? Answered

I'm possession of a vacuum cleaner engine and I'm trying to reverse its rotation..So far I've tried reversing it's polarity with no success but I looked up the 2 ICs on it's chip and it has a555 timer and a 7-stage binary counter.(see: http://www.standardics.nxp.com/products/hef/datasheet/hef4024b.pdf)There are only 2 wires running to the engine from the chip so I presume there is no feedback.Furthermore there is a potentiometer hooked up to both the ICs which regulates the speed of the engine (and no AD convertor as far as I can tell) so the voltage changes the PWM output as the engine is rated 230V.All ideas are welcome =)p.s.(I can't supply you with pictures right now, sorry)

Controller for regulating the speed and reversing the spin of AC motor at set intervals?

I would like to build a roller base that requires constant spin, and intermittent reversal of spin direction. In addition, the spin speed should be controlled so I could tune in different rpms ... eg range from 10-100. I am totally new to electromechanics and I do not know where to start. Just buying a motor and connecting it to AC should not be a problem, but the additional control seems tricky.. How can I control the spin/rpm of an AC motor, and how can I reverse the spin direction at controlled intermittent times?

I need help identifying SMT components of a laser pointer driver. Answered

I recently dismantled my 5mW green laser pointer because I was sick of feeding it AAA batteries. I'm using 4 18650 Li Ion batteries now. I found a little trim pot that increases the power output and when I turn it up, two of the driver components get really hot. I would like to build my own laser driver based on the original, but I need help reverse engineering it. I've attached a few photos, including the circuit I determined so far. The node voltages when the laser is operating normally are included in blue. The two main (I'm guessing) components are marked Y2 and MY and I have no idea what they are. MY becomes very hot at high load. Please help me ID them!! Oh right, and I had to put the big resistor on there. It's a 1Mohm. Somehow it's necessary for the circuit to turn on without the pointer body. It's connected from battery positive to the bottom of Y2.

Hi-Float is, apparently, some liquid you can pump into a balloon to make it stay inflated for a longer amount of time. I can't seem to find anything other than commercial promotion on a Google search, and I'm terribly curious about how it does this, what it's made out of, and whether it would be feasible to make it myself, homebrew-style.

(SOLVED) Break circuit = Make circuit?

Basically, what I want to do is activate something when there is no current somewhere else. Examples of uses of this would include turning an LED on when there is no light on an LDR and turning it off when there is light, rather than the other way around, along with turning an LED on when a circuit is broken by opening a door. Apologies if I have not been clear enough. Is this possible?  EDIT: Thanks to NachoMahma, I have it set up with a transistor. I will post a schematic if anyone is interested.

Timed control board for a reversible motor

Hello, In need to connect a control board to a reversible motor so that the motor would rotate in one direction for "x" seconds and then automatically switch and rotate for "y" seconds in a reverse direction. I got the following parts in hand: - reversible motor - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N687NGU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc;=1 - control board - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HB1X75U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc;=1 - DC adapter - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S1GRFYY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc;=1 Control board works and is going through the proper cycle as indicated in description however the motor only rotates in one direction and never switches. Realizing this this something that I am doing wrong with wiring, so hoping for an advice from someone who knows better in terms of how to set it up correctly and which jumpers or anything need to present so that it works and where things should be wired into. I am also attaching an image with descriptions for connectors that I received from the company. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Reverse Global Warming the DIRTY way

1)  We are put carbon into the air by burning fossil fuels.   What are fossil fuels?  Plants that were buried eons ago.   How can we reverse the trend?  By burying plant matter, thus sequestering CO2 from the air. Fortunately, there is a convenient way to do so. Put lawn waste and paper in a landfill.  Paper is mostly made from tree farm trees. They'll replant to grow more. New trees absorb CO2 from air.       a)  Bury paper. Don't recycle it.    b)  Bury lawn waste, don't mulch or compost. 2) Since people do burn stuff to keep warm, travel, and do stuff in general, is there a way to do this without as much effect on climate? Yes. Global COOLing happens when particulates (smoke) reflect some sunlight.   So the laudable efforts to produce cleaner emissions from cars, powerplants, etc, also prevents the effect of global cooling.   Ironic that  a filthy smoke belching 1800s smokestack which lead to respiratory problems, etc, would also put out particulates that block some sunlight.      a)  make smoke, not clean exhaust. I welcome responses whether you agree or disagree.  To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if I agree myself ! Just putting it out there.

DC Motor Stop and reverse for a feeder

Hi, I attempting to design a feeder that will raise and lower an access door to where the feed is at. The door will open at dawn and close at dusk. I am trying to design a setup similar to an automatic car antenna. When enough light hits the photocell, the motor engages, travels a distance or hits resistance and stops. When light is no longer strong enough, the motor engages in the opposite direction and after the same distance or it meets resistance, stops again. Is this possible to do without Arduino as I am trying to keep this cheap? If so, what do I need and how can this be accomplished? The photocell is not a requirement as I have seen astro timers that can adjust for the changing sunset and sunrise times. Please help. I've got at least 20 hours of research into this and am hitting dead ends searching forums. A circuit drawing would be an awesome addition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance
