Road Accident.

People are now a day very busy. They go fast, they eat and they do everyting fast. They also drive very fast without thinking much of secuirity of own and others. Road is increasingly frequent now a day. We dont pass a day without a news of road accident. I think we have to be more careful while we drive.

Silk Road

What are your thoughts on it? And its closing? Ever take a visit when it was up, use it; do you think the courts of New York had any jurisdiction or right to take action? Love to hear opinions. I personally thought it was a good thing, and I visited now and then. Never bought anything though.

Road Rash

Alright, folks. It's story time. What sorts of crashes have you (or anyone else you know) been involved in while riding a bike? Has anything ever spectacularly malfunctioned with a motorcycle, scooter, or other two or three-wheeled monstrosity? Seen a big crash? Ever bought a bike that had been wrecked? I've got a couple of stories. Which one to tell first..... Oh, I know! One time our '39 Chief set the garage on fire. This was back in the '60s after my grandpa had bought it for my dad, for a hundred bucks cash. 20 year old collector's motorcycle for that kind of money? What was wrong with it, you ask? A lot of things. It needed restoring, and Gramps ran a hotel at the time, and, in his spare time, an Indian museum. Both of the Native American sort and of the American iron sort. Parts were found, damage was fixed, and the bike given a fresh coat of Indian Red before it was fired up. Ran like a dream. Happy, they shut it off and went to bed. Now at this time, that garage was heated by a gas heater. The cork float in the bike's carb swelled up and got stuck, continuing to let gas fill the float bowl, run out the intake, across the floor, and... you guessed it, over to the pilot light. It was a flash fire, but it destroyed the curtains on the door and put a solid layer of char on that brand new purdy paint. Not much else in the garage was flammable, so the fire died nice and quick. The next morning, grandpa and my dad got up bright and early to get to work on the finishing touches, like air in the tires and a test ride. The found quite a suprise, to say the least.

Hacked Road Signs

This may be one of the greatest pranks I've heard of in a while. We see them everywhere these days, digital signs by the side of the road telling us about road conditions or that we should prepare to stop or that our local bridge might be closed next Tuesday from noon to midnight. And if you're like me, you've always just assumed that the message on the signs is legitimate and properly authorized. But what if the sign, instead of reading something like "Ice Ahead" was flashing the message, "Zombies Ahead"?It's true that in San Francisco or a few other cities, such a sign could be put up by local transportation officials to warn people of an impending zombie march, but even in those places, the more likely explanation would be that the sign was hacked. And if you're in the Boston area and saw signs hacked in this way, there's always a decent chance it was done by students from MIT.According to the blog i-hacked.com, some programmable road signs are easily messed with, largely because they often have unlocked instrument panels, a text-entry system that is easily accessed, and are often protected with uncomplicated, or unchanged default passwords. That's some of the text from an article on cnet, here. I love what the hackers did with the text. :-)

Road Trip/Pilgramage

Me and my partner are planning a rode trip from Seattle to Denver to see Thich Nhat Hahn in august. So far our route is taking us through yellow stone and along the bear tooth highway. On the way home we are planing to go through the north part of Utah and through Idaho back into Washington. Anyways I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for places we should go see. I am particularly looking for places that are off the map.

Cats eyes road markers? Answered

Over the years I have come up with a variety of ideas - some Impractical, some worked and many that never went beyond the thought or drawing stage. A long time ago I thought this was a good idea, with no budget or inclination to action it practically I put it up here for comment/critique In the UK and many other countries the centre and edge of the road is marked with reflective dots. In the UK we call these cats eyes as the inventor was supposedly inspired by the way a cats eyes shine in the dark. However good though they are they only reflect as far as your light beam reaches. On dipped beam this may not be that for ahead and with the sort of traffic we get in the UK you hardly every get to use the main beam. My suggestion is to cut a slot down the middle of the road and lay in it a fibre optic cable linking every cats eye in groups of say 50 or 100. The ides is as the diagram shows the Fibre optic carries your dipped head light far further then it would normally shine without the risk of dazzling other road users. I think that this would significantly improve road safety at little cost if done when road refurbishment was carried out anyway as at this time the cats eyes are often removed and replaced. The cats eyes could be simpler, lower profile and possibly cheaper to makeas they would only need to be a plastic holder for the fibre.

Biofuel bus-train-road

The Guided Busway Essentially, this is like a railway for buses- a narrow concrete "road" open only to modified buses, following the path of an old railway to link commuter destinations together. Supporters say it's more practical than a rail link (as buses can drive straight off the end into town roads), opponents say the concept is flawed and that building a traditional railway would be cheaper. The buses are apparently "100% biofuel powered", though I'm having a hard time finding out exactly where those biofuels come from. The future of transportation, or greenwashed white elephant? Update 30-03-2010: I thought I should update this in light of bassman's comments, and because of something I wrote last October: "the busway is due to open in a few weeks (so by our bureaucracy time, make that spring 2010)" Well, it's spring 2010 and this morning on the train to work I finally saw a bus on the busway.  It was marked "not in service" and was populated by half a dozen men in high-vis jackets, so I assume it was a test run of some sort, but at least there is life on it.  Maybe I'll be able to post more about it before 2011?

Road Speed limit project

Hello, I'ts my first post here, so dont get mad if it's not the right subforum for this topic. I would just like some ideas/opinions for my project, because maybe I am forgetting something in addition to i am new with arduino the idea is a device that tracks a car's speeds and omits a message to the driving control authority, in case the car exceeds the speed limit. so What I am trying to build,is a Speed limit notification system that can sense my location and speed using GPS then compare it to defined speed for the current road using algorithm then send data over GSM network to my webserver or mobile phone warning me if i exceed the speed limit . What I need to achieve (and my plans to do so) are: 1. Arduino Uno 2. GPS module  http://www.zeroohm.ae/Adafruit-Ultimate-GPS-Breakout-66-channel-10-Hz-updates-Version-3?search=gps 3. GSM shield for network connection or sms sending http://www.zeroohm.ae/Arduino-GSM-Shield-2-integrated-antenna?search=gsm 4. GSM + GPS shield (Replace 2 and 3 ) http://www.waveshare.com/phone-shield-sim908.htm 5. so i will defined  maybe two or three roads using this techniques and define any speed i want http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=136265.0 Is these parts good ? is it ok to connect GPS module through gsm shield to Arduino ? or replace both with one shield (GPS and GSM ) I'm working on this project alone, maybe I have missed something, maybe theres a better solution for something, maybe someone else has some great ideas they are willing to share, regarding this idea and how to pull it off. Thanks all and sorry about my english

Rear and front bikelights and road safety

A good bike rider learns from good and bad experiences during the initial rides. I pedal a bike on busy roads of my city. I realized that bikelights, especially the rear ones, are crucial for safety purpose. I got a backpack with solar panels and it has got a LED light as a rear bikelight, but it’s too dim, and the tail light sounds nothing like a good indicator for motorists. Either I would need suggestion on a bikelight safety kit or something else. I could do with my self-powered backpack. Is there is any DIY idea to replace it with a more bright option?

Off-Road-Wheelchair - a friendly competition

Hello friends, I personally don't have to use a wheelchair, but we have an acquaintance, who is - after a diving accident - bound to a wheelchair. He raises up the question, about being able to be "offroad" in the woods or mountains by himself, would be a great deal for him. Therefore the thinking of an "offroad-Wheelchair" entered our mind. My brother, who is a teacher in a technical college or school in germany, started some projects, where the students also tried to find good and easy solutions for this task. But it is not easy. Finding this website and finding so many solutions of so many difficult problems of life, I rememberd this task, and think, that this gathering of "brainpower", ideas and idealism, could be a perfect place, to start a project like this. Maybe there are already good solutions among the friends here in this forum of instructables, maybe this could be also a start for good, new ideas, I am interested about the reactions and answers to this topic. What do you think about this idea? What is the best way to go? Let me know! Greetings to all! Steve PS: I think "communities" like this, in sharing ideas for good, with other people, is one of the top-best ascpects of the internet! PPS: HELP - I tried to put this into the section of Assistive Technology, but I dont know how - Is there anybody out there, to replace it there...

PopSci is doing a roadshow called The Future of Sports Tour. You can learn about how science and technology are affecting the way we play and train. Golf, tennis, hockey, baseball and other sports keep evolving with the times and this is a way to see that in person. If you're in the SF bay area, New York, or Miami you can go and check it out.PopSci has also been nice enough to give us a bit of floorspace to show off three DIY games: Ladder Golf, Kubb, and Pringles Golf. You can see the games in person and see some footage of us playing them as well.If you're near any of these it should be worth the trip. Roadtripping Accommodations and Equipment?

My best friend and I are planning a cross-country roadtrip this summer 2010. Starting out in Kansas City, MO, we plan on driving to Los Angeles and back within two weeks or so. Most of our money will probably go towards gas and food, so saving as much as possible when it comes to sleeping is very important. We're more than willing to camp, both in a tent and even in the car. There is an idea of staying in towns and cities for a few days at a time to increase our time abroad // our overall experience. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or anything else to offer, please let me know! Thanks much.

Can I lace a MTB disc hub to a road 700c rim?

Hi there, I would like to run a disc break up front on a fixie and was wondering if I could run a MTB hub on road rim? Or would I better off looking to run a 29" MTB rim on the hub? Does anyone know some tough 29"/700c rims?  Any help would be much appreciated, Barry

I ride a diamondback venom park bike for bmx which I found at a garage sale for five bucks, not knowing just how good it actually was and my gary fisher bitter has been decommissioned due to a faulty front hub which blew out my axle and almost ruined my fork, so I'm slinging around a specialized rockhopper on the trails whose back wheel I destroyed and as a result, I've replaced it with a wheel off a peice of crap magna my friend left at my house a while back. I've got several others, but these are my ladies. they come and go quite often for me, but that's what happens. so what are you riding?!

Wheelchair mountain bike

Hi guys, I have an idea for a go anywhere buggy that I can use on mountain bike trails instead of my wheelchair. I have a very basic design of my idea and need advice on where to go from here. I have a very rough sketch of my idea. But I have no idea of how to use AutoCAD or do anything else with this fantastic little device. So I thought I would ask all of you guys for your input. In the attached sketch. The pink represents a rigid frame. The green is suspension. The black is bicycle tires appropriate for your needs. The blue is an adjustable net seating. And the gray is batteries and motors. However my son informs me that it is possible to put the motor in the hub of the wheel. Which sounds like an excellent idea to me! My idea is to hang the frame from the suspension above the wheels.  And balance the weight of the occupant(s) and the batteries. I think that this has potential for many other applications, but I just want to go play in the woods and the beach again!

Help needed to upgrade wheels on walker for all-terrain ?

I've been trying to source a rim / hub  for my e-walker project , and so far havent been succesful  in finding the exact measurments I need  7.5 " wheel / 46 mm width with 9- 10mm bearing ( SEE BELOW ) http://www.mcmaster.com/#ball-and-rolle ... gs/=9i3dx1 The spacer inside the wheel based on my measurements is 2.7 mm in length and 13 mm in diameter ( outside ) Any way , it seems the best match I can find for hub , tire so far is one of those wheels used on those razor electric scooters  here  though I do not see any bore sizes for any of them, in spite of being told there are after emailing them that its up there ( you can see for yourelf if you like ) So instead, I did websearch on the model of the scooter that correlated with the sorta wheel specs that might work - like e100 razor  and found 8mm mentioned a few times , which I assumed might be the correct diameter of the axel / bore size i need. ( I have also asked on scooter forum to confirm this ) 8 mm however is too small to fit my own  knee walker mobility device , so I was wondering - to cut a long story short  - if there is any way I can enlarge the hole in the bearings that might be realtively easy i.e. without paying someone else ( assuming this could be done easily ) or having to buy a rim with a bigger bore and using some sort of hub ring to make u the difference ( perhaps a bad idea for hun motor ) Again , if any one has any suggestion they willing to share I'd be more than greateful for your ideas and badly needed advice  :) thanks once again. hele

I have a carbon fibre road bike. I accidently grabbed the waterbottle carrier on the downtube. The waterbottle assembly along with the aluminum frame anchors were ripped out. I have been riding for a week without it. With the 2 holes there in the down tube...would there be further fractures or the frame would start cracking if i didn't fill the holes. If I were to fill the holes with silicon or epoxy...would this prevent any stress cracking?

Mad Max your ride + ROAD TRIP!! = Wasteland Weekend

Hey guys! This September I plan to drive from the Austin Texas area to California City, California for Wasteland Weekend, a big old Mad Max / Fallout / PAW styled bash in the desert. I'm currently going for a Lone Ranger meets Zorro in a Mad Max car look to my costume, but now my attention turns to my car, and my chariot of carnage: 1990 Chevrolet Corvette. What's some cool non permanent stuff I can do to my car? It is fiberglass, so unfortunately magnets won't stick. The car already has faded, shoddy grey paint, so that is a plus. Also, any general road tripping advice? it's about 3k miles round trip. at highway cruise I average 27 mpg, but I'm making my fuel consumption estimates on 20 mpg.
