Hey guys. friend and i are working on a project. we are trying to build a robot that will basically be able to follow a path. if there are obstacles in front it will go around them and then continue to the finishing point. no we also want it to learn about its surrounding. so if we bring the robot back to its starting point it will be able to get to the finish with out bumping into objects.we are planing to adopt this robot here https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-wall-avoiding-Robot!/?ALLSTEPSwhat do u guys think is it possible and if so how.the robot will learn by creating a grid in its memory using multi-dimensional arrays.

I don't know about anybody else, but the redrawn Robot on the robot contest banner quite appeals to me. For some reason, it feels like he should have a Canadian accent... I'm not suggesting replacing *the* Robot, but it would be nice to see the Canadian version appearing on merchandise, say as a small logo on a shirt, or on a new badge. I would certainly have made this project easier to make... EDIT: I roughed up some versions of my own, with a combination of Inkscape and an oooold copy of Photoshop.

Saturday, my parents and friends threw me a surprise birthday party! And if that wasn't cool enough, my mom had made the cake look like Robot. Chocolate and vanilla cake, licorice, Rolos, cinnamon rolls, Snickers bars, and Sugar Babies. Yum!(Its black and white because she based it off of my memopad)

I'm thinking about building a battlebot (ant/beetle weight)but I'm not sure if there are any competitions near me. I live near the San Francisco Bay area, if you know any competitions please tell me!!! The date right now is June 16, 2012

If you ask this bartender for something that's not an Asahi beer, it might malfunction. The Asahi Beer Robot is a robotic bartender that can uncap bottles and pour beer, as well as talk. While the claim that it's the best robot ever might be a little extreme, it seems to be working as a very effective marketing tool. It took a team of engineers over half of a year to build and tune its skills--which makes it far too young to be at a bar.Check out the video or the link at engadget.Asahi should probably enter this into the Robot Contest.

As you may possibly recall,the Instructables Robot was made in SketchUp. I was inspired by that and today,a few mins before,I made the Robot in Phun,the 2D physics sandbox. It is low in detail but that can only be changed by your improvement! *hand comes out of monitor,pointing to viewer*

Hello guys i was trying to make a beetle bot following the instructions from this site everything went fine but i had 2 broblems that arent totaly solved yet... the wheels to the motor i have no idea how to make em if i buy em they come all different size and the tip of the motor that spins is like verry little grip i hope u understand... and other thing is everything was fine but at the end when my bot suppose to run it didnt it was getting on and off every now and then when i put em on the floor it wont go i was thinking it was heavy but even if it was heavy i am wondering y it was getting on and off every now and then.... can you plz answer both i need to make it its cool

It's time I turn yet again to the forums for advice, this time on recommended robot brains! [Serious] I have a project for a class requiring design, construction and programming of something. More than half of my fellow students are doing clocks of some sort, be they binary or nixie tube. A friend of mine is doing a holonomic robot, and my plan was to do a walking robot, based on ideas like the WowWee robosaurus, using a simple tail and head to balance and few motors to run it in comparison to any conventional biped. As far as servos, I was hoping to use something like the HerculeX or other serially connected servo, so I can just daisy chain the few I would need and simplify the wiring, as well as get experience with serially addressing things. Planned sensors are 2-4 IR rangefinders, 2-4 wire whiskers and one tilt switch to turn it off if it tips over. Sensors I'd love to add would be something like a super basic camera for simple machine vision if I ever learn to code that well, but I doubt that will be the case; and the LIDAR thing from the Neato XV-11 which is again unlikely. Things I was looking at for super basic use included: Arduino, HC11 MC (backplane type), BASIC Stamp, PIC. For a little more complexity I was seriously considering things like the Freescale Tower ARM, Gumstix or other. I'd love to have the serial servos, sensor assemblies and the camera and have integration with Robot operating system through an onboard computer, but I have no idea what to use to setup ROS or what would be best, or if my plan of parts to use is even good enough. In other words, what ideas should I throw out as impossible or what would I need for say, ROS use? Ideally i want to do a semi autonomous robot, so that i don't have to manually direct it everywhere, but I'd still be keeping an eye on it when it's running so it doesn't break something. If I understand ROS correctly I can use an external computer to control it, but I can also let it be autonomous? Coding math and logic in the machine language for a Z80 computer doesn't really prepare for robot building, although the class is basically a teach programming basics and throw you into the deep end. Reading up a bit, I came across www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/2577277.htm this, and thought I would like to try do something like that, but a spider. It's a "robo roach", a RObotic Autonomous Crawling Hexapod, or ROACH. Bio mimicry is starting to become a leading factor in robots for use in the field. Biomimicry itself is quite amazing the way it uses what works in nature to, well, work! Although there's something interesting about this cockroach, by the way it's made. It uses a simple bi-axial movement principal to keep things simple and cheap. They have a download link for the episode, just go to mpegmedia.abc.net.au/tv/geo/catalyst/catalyst_2009_ep14.wmv and zoom forward to 12:25 and watch it. I'd recommend it, it's quite interesting. Would any one have any information about this? I'd love to try make a robot that's based on an animal, preferably small, but there aren't many details any where. I'd like to hear your ideas about this biomimicry, what would you make and what would you use it for?

For a while, I have been wanting to get started with robotics. My interest in this is very deep, and as you can see from my about me section, my ultimate goal in life is to create a sentient robot. I know this isn't an easy field, and I was wondering if anybody had any tips for getting started. Also, is there a link to a C compiler (preferably free) that you know of? Thank you very much for any help.

Hi everybody I build my robot actually I have a 12v 12ah lead acid battery ( https://www.battery-direct.fr/Batterie-BP12-12.html). I would like to change it but I don t if I choose lipo or lifepo4 or li-ion? My principal goal is loose weight and size, so I think about lipo but I am not shure

Pretty soon the TSA will have a new threat to deal with...Robotic Snakes On A Plane! They can climb up walls, stairs, go snooping for people, get through a chainlinked fence, they're pretty much unstoppable. But most impressively is the snake from Hirose Labs in Japan, it's pictured below, and that mofo can actually swim.It's beautiful, and amazing to watch this biologically inspired robot move, check it out: Clearly these robots are going to be very agile and useful, some researcher used his to walk the ring down the isle at his wedding... creepy? If you are, go ahead and talk about your various thoughts, ideas, etc. If your aren't, then I encourage you to come to one of our competitions to see what First is all about. Check out www.usfirst.org to learn more and look at the event calender for FRC to check for any and all upcoming events. Hey guys i need help with something. i have two obstacle avoiding robots. but i want them to chase and evade each other. like predator prey situations. so i have been trying to connect them with radio signals. does anyone have any ideas how i can do that? if not radio waves il listen to any ideas in IR instead. ur help would be appreciated. (yes i know im not using proper english lol)

I am trying to build a mini-sumo edgebot, as featured in Junkbots, Bugbots and Bots on Wheels. Below is a quick scan of the schematic I'm following. It is supposed to drive forwards until the edge sensor closes, at which point it will reverse and turn before carrying on.Trouble is, it doesn't work.The symptoms:I have breadboarded the circuit, and when I connect the battery, it runs. But when I make the connection to simulate the edge sensor, both motors kick into reverse, but only for a fraction of a second, and then never again - further touches of the edge sensor elicit no reaction at all.When I disconnect the battery, and trip the sensor, the LEDs light and the relays click, showing that the capacitor is still charged.The only things in the breadboard not to "spec" are the motors - I haven't bought my intended motors yet, so I am trialling with a pair of un-geared 3V motors (these are the motors I intend to buy: http://www.ebay.co.uk item number 5855781458 )How can I fix it so that it will react to the edge more than once in a combat?
