Rockets!

I have an old gunpowder rocket lying around in the garage, I am debating whether or not to dig it out. It is a fairly simple thing if I remember correctly, only 2 stages and the payload has a parachute for landing. I would like to know if anybody is interested in seeing a video / slideshow / instrucable on it? While I'm there I might find my old water rocket valve. And if I'm feeling really bored, I might make my own rocket and charges :-)

How can a rocket using liquid hydrogen and oxygen force a rocket upwards?

If hydrogen and oxygen are burned together they produce water.  You need a lot of hydrogen and oxygen to make a very small amount of water. If when burning those two gases together produces water, which takes up much less space, how can it possibly propel a rocket into space. You need expanding gases to force something forward. Hydrogen and oxygen when burned together IMPLODE they do not EXPLODE ! The two gases contract into a liquid they do not expand like conventional combustion of solid fuel !

Cheap Alternative Nose Cones

I am currently working on a new idea in which the nosecone of a model rocket is made from wood putty. Here are the steps: 1. Make a a frame made from a thin piece of balsa. 2. Fill in the four sections with a generous a mount of wood putty or wood filler. 3. Sand using a rough sandpaper, then something finer 4. Attach a dowel to the bottom and add a screw eye Do you think it will work?

Water Rocket Launchers

Water rockets are fairly new to water warrior technology. To reduce our carbon footprint, water rockets are built using plastic bottles. This forum topic talks about the operation of standard water rockets and launchers, how they can be used in a water war, construction of water rocket launchers, rockets, and add-ons like water balloons on the tips of rockets, ammo clips, and grips as well.

How To Build A Rocket

A few years ago i came up with the idea of strapping a rocket to a merry-go-round. the little ones in playgrounds not the big ones with horses and stuff. i've been trying to find some sort of rocket hobby community since then but there are surprisingly little. and not a whole lot of instructables on rockets with enough power. so tips? hints on how to at least get started?

Would it be practically possible to use 12 gram CO2 cartridges like those used for bb guns to power small rockets? I have high hopes for this, but I don't know how well it would work. I am going to go do some ill-advised tests, but I would like to know if anyone has tried it and what I can expect.

Hydrogen as a fuel?

It's easy to separate hydrogen and oxygen from water. If you mix them together it doesn't become water until it is burnt. In theory you could make a water rocket from gases. But in reality...

Black Powder for use in fireworks

I want to get into pyrotechnics as a hobby, and i thought i would start with rocketry. So my questions are: What is the best for a lifting charge for fireworks or a rocket, very very fine particles, or coarse granules? i read somewhere on the internet that granules are best, but all over instructables it says to grind it really well. And also, would adding steel powder/magnesium powder to enhance the spark effects alter the BP? like would magnesium make it more sensitive? Please answer, Thanks.

looking around for tutorials

I am suggesting tutorials on the following. All passive components and prefereably vacuum tubes can be used to build the following circuits.   Analog computers that are programmable and hopefully intellegent. with these you should process many signals at the same time. and instead of displaying results on an oscillscope, make a monitor and a gui.   I have a theory for a power supply. I think it works im not technically able to build the entire circuit yet. It's all passive. its a passive AM radio that sends a 60 hz sine wave. then on the other end you have many many antennas attatched to a passive receiver circuit. because each antenna will induce an electric field from the air, you should be able to get lots more power out of the circuit than you put in. and because its antennas, its compact and light weight.   And if you can figure it out, you can build plasma rockets too. I need some more information on how plasmas travel through an electric field.   but you know if you want to, you can build cars, boats planes, houses, cookware, sensors, surveilance, recording studios, 3d printers etcetera in passive electronics and post tutorials on it.   I am getting somewhat close to growing carbon based electronic components on a tree. I have some(a few) molecules in mind and I am starting to research and make progress on sequencing DNA.   If you want this information it is simply yours. but I need analog flight simulators, spaceflight simulators, weather simulators that use chemistry and math to predict the weather, ocean simulators that simulate all of the bathymetry of the ocean to predict surf and erosion.   aircraft designers. I have a motor that i am designing like the following. It only uses permanent magnets at the moment and it works similar to an alternator. If you can figure it out, you can build it too.   I have an alternate way to make bearings by using cylindrical magnets(the kind with the hole in the middle) and one is attracting and one is repelling. this should be able to make it so that the magnets levitate and spin freely.   Again if you want this information it is yours. YOu can also make analog computers compatable with software that exists today like linux. it is possible. it just takes some time and some thought.   ANyhow anything you want make it wireless make it programmable and make it and post tutorials on it.   I want EVERYTHING to be wireless from the computers to the recording studios to the rockets.   ANyhow thanks and have fun and stuff and it might be fun and it would help everyone and would help your compnay to produce these tutorial but you know wireless guitars, wireless amps, wireless record players wireless cnc machines, wireless laser cutters wireless induction cooktops etcetera. you can even make a record player that instead of using that metal thing to vibrate, you can use like sonar. You know this is just some cool stuff to consider developing. The radio based power supply will work, it just needs some fine tuning and same with the motor, but yeah have fun and be easy with this stuff itll take a while. but you know if you build rockets, spin the rockets to create a strong electric field, but you know i could use tutorials on how plasmas move and accellerate through an electric field etcetera. and for god sake, build EVERYTHING!

Sparklers and the meaning of life

I have been playing with sparklers for ages now the latest experiment was to do several layers of aluminum foil and duct tape around two packets of sparklers and putting some arrow fletchs on them... the last one we tried went across three paddocks and nearly took out a shetland pony :-( we measured it the next day and it came up to 150 metres. However i have allways been looking for explosions... sidetracking slightly here but i actually got an explosion my bro welded up a pyramid the size of a soccer ball i filled it with sparkler dust dad wasnt very happy about the huge hole it left in our roof when it exploded and sent 6ml plate in the air for over 10 seconds that was the dummest thing ive done so im looking to down scale slightly with less shrapnel. So in conclusion Im after a recipe using roughly $30 worth of sparklers to explode keeping in mind that i live in Aus so some matierals are harder to come by. thanks everybody any feedback is supported so keep the comments flowing :-)

Water Rocket Launcher- High PSI twin rocket racers.

Ever wanted to know how to build a twin water rocket launcher? Have some expert advice on hand? Feel free to comment and help build a full metal, high PSI twin launcher. I am looking for assistance/advice you may wish to input. I was hoping to build a substantial base for launching multiple water rockets. It has a quad manifold so further expansion is possible. As you can see from the parts, it is very simple. I still need to add a isolating valve to stop water back flow into my pump (which will be located at the end cap, after the gate valve. The release mech has yet to be designed also. Australian gardena hose quick connects are the base for this rockets release system. I hope that is not too confusing. If it is, ask and I will clarify my babblings. Thanks for the assitance

Can you make a firework or rocket igniter from a microwave transformer?

For homemade kno3 rockets that are really hard to ignite(usually needs a lighter). If i were to guess id convert it to DC, run it through a 12 volt battery, Rig a switch. Just a thought it would be really cool if you could rig a cell phone to it stand far away and call it for ignition.
