Router Project?

On one of my recent bike rides I came across an old (I assume from size) network router. Now being a collector of anything electronic I stored it in my back pack for future use...However as I began to think, I realized I had no idea what to do with the thing.  Here is the most basic infromation on the router: - Made by SMC - Called: BARRICADE SMC7004VWBR - Wireless network router, with a standard four ports on the back - Made in Taiwan (just thought that might be important) So does anyone have any idea on what I can do with this router? I already have a wireless router at home so that use it already filled.  And yes, it is fully functional.

Well a yesterday I was browsing the Internet as usual then i click on a link and it says "address not found" now i find this strange. i look at my internet connection which is wireless. it says my signal strength is excellent. so i go take a look at the modem all the lights are on OK everything good. but for some strange reason i can't connect to the internet. i disconnect the Ethernet cord from the router and i connect it to my laptop. and now i can browse the internet. strange but i don't understand what has happened.i have a linksys wrt54gs v7 router (with this firmware DD-WRT v24 RC-5 (11/22/07) micro)i know its the router because i connect directly and the internet works. if i connect to a port on the back of the router it says i am connected but it still doesn't work.i changed the firmware after i couldn't connect

Woodworking: Router Replacement?

The situation:I (will) have a disc of plywood roughly 20cm across. I need to cut a spiral notch in the ply, from edge to centre, around 3mm wide, so that I can hold a spiral of flexible ply in place and close off the end of the spiral at the same time. The perfect tool for the job is, of course, a router. The problem:I don't have a router.Short of buying a router just for this one job, what can I do to cut the notch?Plus:I've been saying "plywood" - is there another material that can be shaped the same way?

Clear Wireless Router?

I'm thinking about subscribing to Clear Wireless.. they want a $7 mo lease for the router. 1. Is their router proprietary or can I buy some generic wireless at Walmart or such? What do I buy? don't need anything fancy. 2. Radio Shack is carrying their product. The guy was going to give me the USB router but I'm worried I have to sign up for the $45 mobile service rather than the $35 home version. And money is super tight for me. If I buy a wireless printer will I have to buy a router to access it if I have the mobile/USB version? Thanks in advance to all you wise ones that help me. BTW: You watching Watson on Jeopardy tonight? Should be fun. WIPEOUT... humans that is.

Router bit question

I'm trying to make some crooked furniture.  I'm looking to route a ledge in my MDF to set my bendy board into. However, the surface I want to route is curved, so I can't use a router table and a fence to achieve what I want. I have no idea the terms for what I want to do, so I can't seem to google the solution.  I think I can do it with a binding router bit set, but that's $100.  So I would like to leave that as a last resort The curvy looking thing is the profile of the box I'm making.  I will then be attaching bendy board.  I want the bendy board to set inside a ledge to get a seamless edge look that won't fray over time. The box is approx 2'x7' so I need a bit or jig that I can setup on the router, the table isn't really practical. Any advice on what do use to make that ledge? Thanks!

How would you remove the two antennaes from a Linksys WRT 54G Router. Can range extending antennae then be added.

Our router has some limits on its range. I know on some similar products, the aerials can be unscrewed and then replaced with range extending antennae. Can this be done on this Linksys router and if so, are there suitable antennae that would do the job and so enhance its range.

3G "adaptor" for ADSL Router

I was looking for a 3G Router and I was thinking about the ADSL router I have at home and if I can use the same one with the 3G Huawei card that I have. I don't have a landlines because the telecoms company has no infrastructure where I live.   So would it be possible to have some kind of adaptor that connects to the port where the phone line goes in but on the other end have a USB port that you can plug in the 3G card? There would need to be some kind of electronics/software in between I suppose. Any Ideas on how this can be done or if it can be done?

Is it possible to secure an unsecured network with your own router?

I'm going to Spain to study, and would like to trade stocks there.  The place I'll be staying in has wifi.  Is it possible in anyway to make sure my information is safe by using another router to receive the wireless connection?  It would think it would be very costly to buy a data plan, much less a fast one to trade stocks and is accurate to the second.

When buying a dremel, how important is it that it can fit a router bit?

I'm considering buying the Dremel 400 XPR to do some wood and metal work. However, reviews online have said that it doesn't fit a router bit. Is being able to use my dremel as a router important, or should I not bother worrying if a dedicated router (a future purchase) might do a better job.

Trying to power an AR9331 router using a power supply have made

Hi, I am trying to power an AR9331 router using a power supply I have made. The AR9331 requires a 3.3V supply. My power supply takes 12V as input, then converts it into 5V using a LM2576 step down voltage regulator and then a LM1117 regulator to convert 5V to 3.3V. The output is at the desired 3.3V level and is ripple free. I have verified this using a scope. The problem is that if I use this power supply the AR9331 boots and then hangs. If I try booting the same AR9331 with a lab power supply set at 3.3 V it boots perfectly.I learned about inrush current and tried to measure it using the following setup: (see the attached 1)Since the resistor is 1 ohm the potential across it equals the current. The next figure shows the potential across the 1 ohm resistor: (see the attached 2)The inrush current is about 1A, whereas the normal operating current is 250mA. I tried two solutions, 1. Tried a current limiting resistor between my 12V lab supply and the LM2576 input. This works. The router boots perfectly. 2. Tried lowering the lab supply to 9V and connecting it to the LM2576 input. without any current limiting resistor. This also works. I suspect the problem is inrush current. Any suggestions? One interesting observation is that if I power my power supply with 9V or even down to 5.5V the router boots just fine. This has been happening repeatedly during my experiments. This is confusing me completely since the LM2576 is designed for input voltages well above 12V (see datasheet:

Saving energy on my wireless router

OK, so I've lagged my loft, put switches on all my chargers, installed intelligent thermostats. I've even put our cordless phone chargers on timeswitches so they charge at night (cheap leccy!). But I have a wireless router: it's always on, 24/7. I'd love to be able to put it to sleep and wake it up only when I'm using it. Notes: i) I access the web at all times of day (and sometimes night!) from the second floor; the router is on the ground floor. And I'm NOT going to go up and down two flights of stairs to switch it on/off. ii) I'm not buying a new router. It took me FOREVER to set the darn thing up the first time (yes, I know I'm a dunce, but what would you?). Any ideas?
